I'm 57 and American. I've seen this so many times with subtitles, that I feel I know these people, and know their every word. It's been said many times in the comments that this is art. And I must agree.
I'm so sorry for everything the USA and the UK have done to your country!! And they're still in your country, I believe but there's not much on the news about it!! We were voting against the invasion of your country, but our government knew very well there was no weapons of mass destruction, yet they still chose to attack your country as they wanted their cut of the oil!! I hope you're well. ❤
One of my favourite films of all time! Ken Loach perfectly captures the grim reality of lower class culture in Scotland that we all grew up with and you almost forget its acting! I'd love to personally edit this with subtitles for all non-Scots so that everyone can fully enjoy and appreciate this work of art together 👏
I'm from the North of England and I'm absolutely fine with it, no subtitles needed.excellent movie. Also, have you seen the film Kes,another Ken loach classic? That was filmed near where I'm from in West Yorkshire.
I’m a middle class English guy and I used to go visit my dads best friend in Greenock nearly every year. I absolutely loved it there mid 90s and Port Glasgow. My dad’s mate had some amazing stories as he was a taxi driver.
Six years of classes to learn and master English as a non-native yet this movie makes me feel as if I somehow transcended time and I'm on year 1 again.
because of your listening isn't good? ?if you want to understand Scottish and irish English Accent you should listen listen as much as you understand and then you will understand every English in this world 😂😅😆I'm a not native English speaker but I can understand Sottish and irish accent because I have been listening to the Scottish English for long time. No body is perfect in this world but if we want to get something and we have to try little bit a harder. No pain no gain you guys.God bless you guys and have a great future. ..🙌👪

Heh, even the closed captions can't make sense of what they're saying. It doesn't help that the accent runs at twice the speed of amphetamine. I'm going to watch this frame by frame again.
Thanks for sharing this. As an American who was growing up in Glasgow right around this time this film really resonates with me. Pretty accurate description of parts of life there. Obviously it’s not all like this, but it’s surprising how much stuff like this infiltrated my somewhat “normal” life.
Hihi, yes, it's Swedish, didn't you know that. But I also have to agree that some words are similar to Swedish. Just consider the scene in the car when the abusive stepfather asks him where he has been. He replies "üt" instead of "out". This is a Swedish word. It's written "out" in English, but they prononunce it "ut" like in Swedish.
I first saw this movie abt 15 yrs ago, and it's been on my list of faves of that period since then. As an American, I knew that some Scots dialects can be hard to understand, but working-class Glaswegian might as well be a foreign language! I have this on DVD, so I'll probably have to fire that up, since those subtitles are 100% accurate...they're a little hard to follow on this upload.

@@brettbanta2100 Neither do I. I think he will survive for his mother could call the ambulance. The crotesque thing is: It wasn't Pinball who destroyed the caravan. It was his stepdad. That was also the reason why Liam got so furious and tried to kill him.
