Yes! It was also funny at the time, because Mother Chapman won 3 Grammys in '89 for this album and single 🎉 Getting parodied by the Wayans was like an 'I see you doing your thing, Sis' to a Black artist who was redefining the boundaries of Black music in the 80's and 90's. So glad I grew up in this era ❤
I just saw she won because she was the original songwriter and it was covered by Luke Combs which is why it even won. And honestly don't get me started on the CMAs because it seems a lot of country people are proving activists right on their past racism.
Still love this sketch. Kim Wayans was one of my favorite comedians on ILC. I know this parodies "Fast Car", but always wonder if people realize it also parodies "Behind The Wall". If you listen to that song, you'll know
Chapman was a great song writer. Still is. But she didn't fit the mold that the music establishment wanted. The writers of Living Color gave the establishment a great gift with this mockery of her work. Her songs were too deep and stiffly against materialism, violence and narcissism. No room for her in pop culture.

Actually, I am ashamed to admit, that as a child, I allowed this sit to make me not like Tracy Chapman... it wasn't until I was an adult, 21 years old that I realized how amazing and brilliant and wonderful Tracy Chapman is. My sister and I went to her show in Los Angeles in 2005 and it was amazing. The Wayans are responsible for destroying Tracy's image in the Black community as well as Vrystal Waters.. it was funny as a child, but repulsive as an adult
@@thedarkcreole Agree, they did various parodies, notably Michael Jackson's " Black and White". The one artist I heard who took exception was MC Hammer when Tommy Davidson portrayed him in "U Can't Touch This" where he gets his head stuck in his baggy pants.
I just think it's disrespectful. Fast Car is a beautiful song. Tracy Chapman is amazing. This chick here is just a product of nepotism. No talent. The joke is on her man. Just how I feel.
Damn this is still funny as hell even in 2024
"Uh oh he's up again" - my favorite part 😅😅😅
😂😂😂
There's no way to explain to a young person how funny this was when it came out.
Right!!!
It's funny now
Still is
I love Tracy Chapman, but I also love Kim Wayans parodying her. This was one of my favorite skits of all time.
I always think back this to thing. It was done so well on so many levels.
❤Kim Wayans XOXO
I remember this when it aired. The Wayans are hilarious. I bet their family dinners were hysterical.
Same!
Right? Man I miss this time period. I feel like we were so lucky to grow up then.
No doubt. They are a very funny family. I love Marlon's stand up.
I agree they launched so many careers on this show.not just actors and comedians but a couple of icons. So much talent on one show
Tracey just won a CMA Award tonight (November 8, 2023) for Fast Car, 35 years after it's release. This shit is 100x more relevant than ever.

CMA? Boy talk about woke.
WOW 😮 that's crazy and I'm so happy for her. Love the song 🎉❤😂
I just saw she won because she was the original songwriter and it was covered by Luke Combs which is why it even won. And honestly don't get me started on the CMAs because it seems a lot of country people are proving activists right on their past racism.
@TheMetalAllfather correction the artist who did the cover won the award so that doesn't count
Who's here going down memory lane after that awesome Grammys performance last night?

In honor of Tracy Winning Song Of The Year for Fast Car at the 2023 CMAs 35 friggin years later, here I am commenting on this video 🤣🤣🤣
This isn't a sketch. This is how Tracey wrote fast cars.

I finally remember this after humming the tune for years not knowing where I heard this.
“Uh-oh, he’s up again.” XD
... Uh oh, he's up again!
I saw this sketch before ever hearing "Fast Car", so when I finally heard Tracy Chapman's song, I couldn't help but remember these lyrics.
Here in 2023 man I miss my childhood
Hahahahahahahahahahahah "old man got hit by a bus I think he broke his neck" I fucking loved this show
I miss this show.
And I do remember when this aired. Absolutely hilarious!

I always thought things would get better but now he has her in a chokehold...
OHH OHH HES UP AGAIN
All these years and this still funny as all get out
Still love this sketch. Kim Wayans was one of my favorite comedians on ILC. I know this parodies "Fast Car", but always wonder if people realize it also parodies "Behind The Wall". If you listen to that song, you'll know
So This Is Where Friends Got The Idea For Phoebes Character.
No way?
Hmmmm, wouldn't be the first Black show on Fox that "Friends" stole from
0:48 "SHADDAP, YA OL' BAG OF RIPPLE!!!"
Best insult ever.

Ahhh man..living color ur a classic Wayans show..I still laff to this day..

Love this sketch.
Realizing that my two favorite skits that I still remember from when I was 12 are both Kim Wayans skits. This one and “Mindless”
I'm making millions. Isn't that funny. Ha ha hee. Ha ha ho 😂
so epic, can’t touch this
Hilarious as usual!! What a talented family and love #whitechicks and #snl 90s version
I actually got the first Season on DVD...and the mike Tyson part when he imitates him is funnyyyy
I appreciate it and see related the song Behind The Wall. It also describes the horror of domestic violence.
2:26 uh oh he’s up again
😂😂 I loved this skit ❤❤
I seem to recall this one actually being included on the DVD unlike most of the shows' song parodies.
Uh oh he’s up again 😂😂LOL
Hilarious then and hilarious now.
Yep
So so good!
playing the guitar upside down..lmao.
She's playing lefty like Jimi Hendrix.

Here in 2020!!! 😆🙌🏾
Lmfgdao in 2020
Kim was an assassin with a sniper rifle...and she never misses..

“Give Me One Reason” a few years later was a huge hit
Ok but did you laugh?
@kristinazubic9669 telling stories was a good one too
This skit is underrated
Kim Wayans❤🎉🎉🎉
You guys do realize she phucked up and tried to freestyle through it.. Big Ben part…
This could be my neighbourhood.
Looking just like Marlon

lmao.. Kim just strumming the out of tune guitar cracks me up.
domestic violence is never fu-
At least she fought back, and won!
😂😂😂😂😂
Luke Combs could never Lmao 😂
This was a great song by
Tracy Chapman, but i can never listen to her version again 😂, just like her Crystal Waters -Gypsy Woman parody
Oh Kim Waynes. Googled her.
this was before "political correctness" ... MASSINELY FUNNY !!
This show was controversial in its day.

Deon Lucas It’s a parody. No one “destroyed” Tracy’s image. She’s still regarded as an amazing artist, musician, songwriter, and singer.
@@thedarkcreole Agree, they did various parodies, notably Michael Jackson's " Black and White". The one artist I heard who took exception was MC Hammer when Tommy Davidson portrayed him in "U Can't Touch This" where he gets his head stuck in his baggy pants.
Same here. Now I understand why my Mom played her album non stop
Oh Pleaseeee
Her image never got destroyed. Everyone knew these were parodies...even I did as a kid.
I hated that song "Fast Car." This skit was well deserved!
better than tracy or luke
It just felt mean to me, instead of funny.
Soy boy
I just think it's disrespectful.
Fast Car is a beautiful song.
Tracy Chapman is amazing.
This chick here is just a product of nepotism. No talent. The joke is on her man.
Just how I feel.
Get a grip
How's it feel to live no sense of humor?
Woke snowflake
It's a SKIT from a COMEDY SKETCH SHOW, you goddamn snowflake!! It's SATIRICAL HUMOUR. Don't like satirical humour? Then you suck as a person.
You sensitive simp 😂
