Kim Wayans was a special physical comedian, her brothers as well. That whole family just keeps you laughing and forgetting the harsh realities of life that can make you cry all day.
You're so right, I just saw this video today. Takes me back to when the days were simple, and the only thing we had to worry about was making ends meet, and making it another day.
I met Crystal Waters in person 13 years ago after she performed during Columbus Gay Pride. I made the mistake of mentioning this parody. She got extremely pissed off saying "I can't believe people are still talking about that shit all these years later and stormed off. So if you ever meet her, never mention the In Living Color parody (even though it was quite funny).
That's because they did it better than her, grilled her BAD, and she was never big enough to take it on without it being a stain on her the rest of her life.
@@KrisBryant99because this was mostly the older generation making fun of new music at the time which young people loved and made their own, which is happening again now. You can see it in these comments without any self awareness. Even the comedian Lenny Henry got old and made fun of dance music at the time and made many of the same insults as this song in one of his set pieces in the late 90s. It's a funny video of a great tune!
@@makasete30 It really goes to show how blind we are to things because as someone who grew up in the 2000s, I didnt think the music got bad until like 2009.
To this day I still “sing-quote” that line sometimes, and I laugh to myself regardless of whether or not anyone else is in the room gets it or not. QuietStorm26, you must be my comedic spirit animal! 😂
Lhin Doh, don’t forget that it also describes about 75% of pop artists and 50% of country artists as well! (“Old Town Road” is proof of this, although I must admit that song is as much as guilty pleasure for me as this Crystal Waters parody is!!) 😬
Nope the humor would not make it sadly. The moment someone would get offended they would take to social media get a mob of people who agree with them force an apology out the staff and get the show shutdown.
The best of the funniest. Kim is under-appreciated; if this was now, she’d have more to do-but no one is willing to take the risks the Wayans kids took, so the show wouldn’t exist…
Felix Brown i was 4 when in living color came out. i love watching it today. most of the wayans are funny. damon is the funniest to me. that men on film or cooking or whatever is the topic cracks me up. really liked jaime foxx as wanda and jim carrey as fire marshall bill too.
She is so talented and hilarious! I'm sure it wasn't easy to live in all her brother's shadows, as the female in the bunch - but I think she's is just as talented, if not more.
Why we never saw this woman again she was freaking awesome and hilarious and how ironic she made something that actually represents our current time. Very talented person.
I had never heard this song before and looked it up right after seeing this bit. And my first thought was, "Wow, this is super catchy... but it's also really stupid."
I heard the original song in King of the Hill (another Fox series) in the episode Husky Bobby, and when I saw this recently, I was like "that melody sounds familiar". Then I found out it's a parody of "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" by house singer Crystal Waters.
The part I still remember as a kid is that the background is all white except for a few of the spots where the homeless dudes are dancing. Those dirty spots used to make me crack up! As an adult i'm like damn, that was either a touch of genius or just a coincidence.
wow, she looks like Crystal W!!! Does anyone know the SPECIFIC reason they tore apart Crystal? It would make more sense recently, when she used 'The Price Is Right' theme song for a track she released not too long ago...
To be fair, Crystal's singing wasn't that good (at least at first. She sounds great in 100% Pure Love), so they decided to take the piss. She was a great sport about it though and thought it was pretty funny. Some DJ's back then would mix in the video to this while playing Gypsy Woman just for laughs.
the song was kinda annoying and overplayed in the 90's not to mention the song was a hit so it was a perfect time to take a shot at her. If anything i think they burned paula abdul more with promise of a thin me lol
Things were different back then In Living Color went in on everybody from MC Hammer to Michael Jackson, who were mega stars at the time. It wasn't nothing specific against CW, this show made phone of everybody back then. Today's artists would have a heart attack if someone did this to their music.
Kim Waynes is ridiculously underrated. I'm sure a lot of people in her enormously talented and funny family would probably say shes the funniest. Being a female, and a Waynes though probably put her pretty low in the pecking order id assume.
Plus, Keenan Ivory will always be the best Waynes brother in my opinion. He started it all. And I don't think he'll ever get the respect he deserves all these years later.
Just Unsung covered Crystal Waters. She took this parody personally as an insult and how people didn't get her message in her song homeless. Funny though. This show wouldn't work today. They would have every support after them.

Let's talk about being a bad sport 🤭😆
she talked about how she did not
like how in living color parodied her song on an episode of tv one unsung
That's because they did it better than her, grilled her BAD, and she was never big enough to take it on without it being a stain on her the rest of her life.
She didn't like it?? Wow.

She looks good as Crystal Waters
The Big Mac jingle at the end XDXD

YourFunkLord "Like me, your miiinndleesss."

Like or not it was a lot of crap flowing around in your precious 1990s..
Believe me JB, it was a reality back then too. You couldn't escape this shit if you tried. Comedy gets it's inspiration from reality.
*1991
I remember watching this episode in the early 90s. God's, I miss those days.
It was a reality in 90's most of the House and Eurodance music used those types of "silly" lyrics.
"I'll be rich, you'll be poor"
