2 of the most respected HBCU BANDS. But i got to give the W to JSU for 3 reasons. 1 better arrangement than they had in the past. 2 great song selection. And 3 most importantly....THE TUBAS!!! THEY SOUNDED LIKE BIG CRUISE LINERS AND TUGBOATS IN HARMONY THEY WERE IN SYNC THE WHOLE BATTLE AND HATS OFF TO THE SECTION LEADER FOR A GREAT JOB. AGAIN THE W GOES TO DA BOOM

I really enjoyed JSU's version of "No Ordinary Love". The arrangement was quite tasteful. The blend and tonality was spot on; and well..."Highest in the Room" was epic. Great job BOOM!

I have never witnessed SU so undisciplined. What is going on with the band staff? You got the tuba section turning towards Jackson (42:20) while the rest of the band face the crowd. This is when you know Jackson got under their skin and touched several nerves. I am not used to this from them.

As Jukebox Diehard, I gotta say that it pains me to watch this. The Jukebox has always on another level, but JSU leveled up this night! Somebody stole the soul and relentless aggression out of our music. SU has always been an undeniable force when opposed with any band. Over these last couple years, we've allowed "rudy poo" bands to mentioned in the same sentence with us, let alone try to battle us. Saving music all season long for one battle won't get it done. We gotta get back to that killer instinct and smash every band on site. Let's get the "respek" put back on our name with total annihilation!!! Great job JSU!
@@YourGoat803 Under the curcumstances I won't write them off just yet. With the abrupt turnover we experienced, they were handed the keys to a mighty machine minus the full driving manual. Hopefully we can get back to prominence in the next couple years. But in the meantime, we have to somehow sustain our footing and put our best foot forward. That means if you have new material, use it now!

Taking nothing away from Jackson St., it seems that SU is due for some sort of infusion. Maybe staff, recruiting, uniforms, who knows? I can't say for sure. I believe we all can agree that with SU something is amiss, and their' only true rival(Jackson), makes this noticeable.

I state with confidence this year, 2019-2020, Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South is the #1 HBCU band in the country. SWAC/MEAC/brotherfromanothermother - doesn't matter. JSU == #1
When Will JSU get invited to the Rose Bowl.😐 Even Alabama State and the Stingettes were invited. 🤗 SU made the HBCU Family proud. We let that Pasadena crowd know what profection is. Every street was like a touchdown scored they were cheering so hard. And for our Dancing Dolls.. the men had a chance to see 9 Dancing Dolls with sexy figures.

I will say this, louder is NOT always better... JSU has a quality sound, like Pioneer or Bose, SU sounds like Kenwood or JVC ..... jus a bunch of noise!!
Had a BLAST at Crankfest last night talking trash with about 50 SU fans around me! It was all good tho; we dapped it up at the end. I gave credit where it was due & most of them did too. I’ll let y’all debate the winner. Just remember, band isn’t the Alpha/Omega of life. If we both wear our band gear on a non-HBCU campus, we’ll be seen as equally inferior 🤷🏾♂️
I think the point he was making was that we as a people are all we've got. Let's not forgot WHY HBCUs we're created in the first place. We can only get to the promised land together. No other way. We are rivals on field but in society "they" see us as one group of inferior people.

I’ve seen so many quality versions of The Boom, but this one is just different. Both bands were bringing it tho. Shoutout to JSU too for the different sections hitting dance routines on the tuba breaks. The energy’s always there!

J State got the W... they were a tad bit more polished. Enjoyed their arrangements and new music period... this is not the same j state from the early/mid 2000s playing secret garden, under pressure, golden time of day, and swoop lol... I enjoyed the jukebox too... always have dope arrangements but those old rap tunes from years ago not gonna cut it against j state... Dope battle 🔥🔥🔥
I went to JSU from 98-02 and to be honest, I kinda miss hearing the Boom play some of those classic songs especially golden time of day and Secret Garden...those songs never lose their importance..The Boom has such a balanced sound and Jukebox has always had a loud sound but I prefer the Boom's balanced sound over the Jukebox anyday but I'm not going to lie like I don't miss the classics..the Boom should play a few classics this year against SU and Alcorn.
You enjoyed their arrangements..............there was not one arrangement that SHOWCASED each section, except TUBA SOLOS and THE REST OF THE BAND AS A WHOLE SECTION. GO sit down CLOWN, with those LAZY ASS ARRANGEMENTS. We showcased EVERY SECTION FOOL!!! GTFOH!!!

In retrospect.. if you kinda look at the time frame of what happened with the Jsettes, that may have been why the Boom didnt perform like this at the boombox classic. Things could have been quite different.
Checking JSU Tubas they have better Tubas better quality indeed. It does make a difference in sound. SU Trombones, Baritones, French Horn and Trumpets off the chain. Went to the Circle City Classic Battle of the Bands in 2019, JSU won the performance against Kentucky University. While in the stand did not give what was expected to the audiences. On here hands down to the JSU Tubas. Hand down to the SU Trombones, Baritones French and Trumpets.

JSU’s balance across all parts of their arrangements, their intonation, articulation, and dynamics are what secured their Win at crank fest. While yes SU is a strong contender and has many feats of their own, it’s going to take a lot more than just raw power to win this battle and JSU proved that.
Are you Serious? If the only thing you heard from JSU was just tubas then you probably need to get your ears checked. JSU was the most balanced out of all of those bands. You can hear the clarity in the their sound, arrangements, and can actually make out what song they’re playing with no effort.

Their clarity was not the same as JSU and anyone who says otherwise is delusional. My ears are actually fine tuned given the fact that I’ve been in band since 2008 and have been in honor band a multitude of times. So, with that in mind I know what I’m saying.

As Jukebox Diehard, I gotta say that it pains me to watch this. The Jukebox has always on another level, but JSU leveled up this night! Somebody stole the soul and relentless aggression out of our music. SU has always been an undeniable force when opposed with any band. Over these last couple years, we've allowed "rudy poo" bands to mentioned in the same sentence with us, let alone try to battle us. Saving music all season long for one battle won't get it done. We gotta get back to that killer instinct and smash every band on site. Let's get the "respek" put back on our name with total annihilation!!! Great job JSU!

Taking nothing away from Jackson St., it seems that SU is due for some sort of infusion. Maybe staff, recruiting, uniforms, who knows? I can't say for sure. I believe we all can agree that with SU something is amiss, and their' only true rival(Jackson), makes this noticeable.

I went to JSU from 98-02 and to be honest, I kinda miss hearing the Boom play some of those classic songs especially golden time of day and Secret Garden...those songs never lose their importance..The Boom has such a balanced sound and Jukebox has always had a loud sound but I prefer the Boom's balanced sound over the Jukebox anyday but I'm not going to lie like I don't miss the classics..the Boom should play a few classics this year against SU and Alcorn.
You enjoyed their arrangements..............there was not one arrangement that SHOWCASED each section, except TUBA SOLOS and THE REST OF THE BAND AS A WHOLE SECTION. GO sit down CLOWN, with those LAZY ASS ARRANGEMENTS. We showcased EVERY SECTION FOOL!!! GTFOH!!!

Checking JSU Tubas they have better Tubas better quality indeed. It does make a difference in sound. SU Trombones, Baritones, French Horn and Trumpets off the chain. Went to the Circle City Classic Battle of the Bands in 2019, JSU won the performance against Kentucky University. While in the stand did not give what was expected to the audiences. On here hands down to the JSU Tubas. Hand down to the SU Trombones, Baritones French and Trumpets.

JSU’s balance across all parts of their arrangements, their intonation, articulation, and dynamics are what secured their Win at crank fest. While yes SU is a strong contender and has many feats of their own, it’s going to take a lot more than just raw power to win this battle and JSU proved that.

Are you Serious? If the only thing you heard from JSU was just tubas then you probably need to get your ears checked. JSU was the most balanced out of all of those bands. You can hear the clarity in the their sound, arrangements, and can actually make out what song they’re playing with no effort.

Are you Serious? SU powerful. I will never knock them on that especially since I’m from Louisiana. But, I also know when and where to give credit where it’s due. Their clarity was not the same as JSU and anyone who says otherwise is delusional. My ears are actually fine tuned given the fact that I’ve been in band since 2008 and have been in honor band a multitude of times. So, with that in mind I know what I’m saying.
