Early on I liked UAPB's song selection just not the way they played the songs. Maybe it was the arrangements. As for the whole game, I really understand the strategy on some of the songs they called. This battle gave me SU or GSU vibes in that they present a little better on clips than in person. At least they kept it in the box, and didn't try to do too much

M4 didnt sound bad at all and they pretty loud for the size of the band they got now. Im from 2006-2010 era. When they had size. But of course jsu is a bigger band of course they gone be louder but louder doesnt always been better 😅
Bruh they were so loud in person. But it’s crazy cause it’s more like a powerful loud, the sound just hits you. Also very clean and balanced. Hope you get a chance to hear them in person if you haven’t.

Adequate song selection from uapb. Just don’t have the bodies to compete with jsu sound. Starting to hear some better and more up to date arrangements from uapb. W hopefully that helps with their recruiting. They just don’t have enough to compete with the top swac programs

As a former member of M4 what y'all don't understand is we are in the middle of a musician desert. There are no high school bands in Arkansas that really do 8 to 5 or HBCU music. Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Louisiana are getting all the students. No kids are coming to UAPB.
Not true! We (Southwest) do it a high level to the point where we win MULTIPLE trophies in competitions year in year out. Parkview does the style at a high level as they also get superior ratings. We also have Pine Bluff High who still wins at times, Watson Chapel, Fordyce, Jacksonville, Hall are all doing well! We even have a huge KranksGiving Battle of the Bands where we are featuring MANY of Arkansas’s great talent! If anyone has the musician desert excuse, it’s Jackson. Many of Jackson’s show style high school band programs have taken major hits since the pandemic which is why they get major talent from out of state (including our kids from SW, PV, and PB).
@ they killing the recruitment in Memphis actually. The main issue is the quality of teaching and overall the directors are too dated in their approach. The kids would kill these performances if they felt like they had teachers who really listened to them and valued what kind of sound they want to achieve
