      Meh. The docking comp. is great on all those big and unwieldy ships that have all the grace of a fat ballerina. Personally I use it AFTER going through the mailslot as I'm lazy AF and can't be arsed to navigate to the pad with those big ships. More nimble ships? I'll dock myself, thank you very much.
      I also found it very helpful in planetary landing. Not because it's difficult or anything, but because the effing docking pads are always oriented the wrong way...
      That said, since this list seems to be aimed at new players, then I'd wager that the docking comp isn't the best investment. Again, the small ships are nimble enough and even 2t of cargo space can make a difference when starting out.

    in the '84 game a docking computer was almost essential and the first thing to get, docking was an absolute nightmare on most versions, I like the fact they start you out with a steep learning curve on Dangerous, but I like crazy and reckless docking techniques now... *LIKE SPACE DOCKING, I LOVE SPACE DOCKING*

  • @tudomerda

    The docking music and physics are the same as in the movie "2001 Space Odyssey", the Docking physics in the movie is accurate and authentic as it was designed by actual NASA engineers who were consulted for the movie by director Stanley Kubrick.
    It's fantastic to see a tribute payed to a great SciFi movie in ED. 2001's space physics is the most authentic of any space film to date, Thank you Elite Dangerous.

      I like to think that my pilot was trying to save a few credits, and instead of buying an actual starship-rated docking system, he bought a war surplus assault shuttle module. No matter how big your ship, it thinks its making a hot drop into a contested LZ. The music, of course, is meant to keep the Marines just this side of berserk from the ship slinging all around and hard landings. Very 'Traveller-esqe'. :)

    The worst thing is that for my first almost half of a year in ED I didn't knew scanner can be activated. And I chose explorer route by than. No one simply told me that. And you know what? I ENJOYED IT!
    I really had to use my mind to find any planets, moving away from the sun I stared at the side of my cocpit in search of any moving dot. Wondered if the dot cluster in front of me was a star cluster or a gas giant with lot of moons. I really had to try hard to make any discoveries. And it was really enjoyable. Untill I noticed how little money I got from that.
    The thing is, if infinite discovery scanner would not show you direct planets placements with simple honk, but rather the aproxinate direction the celestial body is (much like stealthed vessels) and payouts for exploring would be way bigger, whole exploring stuff would be WAAY more interesting

    Python is great. Strip it down for some loop trading, and get 280T. Put back a 6A shield, some a few hull / module reinforcements, including shield boosters and cell banks, got a really great protected fighter with the three "L" size hard points. Only disappointment, is a 5A FSD, and that get's you about 12-14 LY only, even when stripped on core essentials with this guy.

  • @Chapterhouse86

    This is pretty much what I did:
    1. Grind some missions in your Sidewinder so you can afford a Cobra 3 and buy it.
    2. Use Cobra 3 for bounty hunting to make some quick credits. I used the Zaragas system, as it has a really good High threat RES.
    3. This one may be skippable, but I saved up and bought a Vulture, since I was having a lot of fun bounty hunting.
    4. I then used the Vulture to make enough credits for my beautiful Python.
    Now, after you have a Python, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I took my Python to grind Sothis/Ceos passenger missions and made like 500 mill before it was nerfed and I just recently spent half of that on my Anaconda, and I have not been disappointed. After engineering the FSD on it a bit, its sitting at a 44 ly jump range, and i'm only half done engineering it!
    Anyways, love you Yamiks! You Latvian bastard!

    When I first tried the game when it first came out I had a lot of trouble with docking to the point of abject frustration but now with age I seem to have acquired an intuitive knack for docking, I haven't crashed even once! Just some minor overshooting and forgetting whether I'm in reverse or not sometimes. I even find the process of docking to be... Dare I say... Fun! Almost like it's satisfying to maneuver a ship.
    Though I think I might consider a docking computer if I ever reach the point where I have a large ship, just to eliminate any chances of ping-ponging around on the mailslot because one of my vanity fins knicked the roof.

  • @Ueberdoziz

    but the hauler is pretty good for 1 thing. getting around the bubble really cheaply. ive got 10+ ships in my fleet and they are usually scattered around the bubble. but transfering an anaconda for examlpe is just way to fricking expensive. a hauler on the other hand is dirt cheap to send it across the bubble, and with just a good fsd (and some fsd mods) you can go really far... fast. and cheap :)
    altghough since the hauler has such a low class fsd, it doesnt use much fuel per jump. so if you really need 2 get somewhere fast, u can just strap the optional internals with fuel tanks and go from a to b without a fuel scoop

    • @Forge64
      @Forge64 6 лет назад

      I have two AspXs and two Dback Explorers for that. The Dbacks are cheap to ship, jump far, and scoop at almost a decent rate. The AspXs have engineered FSDs and good scoops, so they can just go where they want. That plus shipping the small stuff makes fleet movement a lot cheaper and more effective.

    Funny! Good stuff! I agree with everything, except ship selection. I ended up with 3 ships; the ASP Explorer to get Elite exploration and alot of easy cash. Then the Clipper to get trading elite (almost), big grind but good cash. And the Vulture for combat deadly at the moment. the Python was the best all-rounder, and lands on medium pads, but I find it easier to switch around my dedicated ships.

      @xRaalx 7 лет назад +1

      ever see someone with 3 bursts without relaoding on the Imperial Hammer Railgun? You can rapid fire that thing with a heatsink. Great for sniping out an engine of someone trying to run away.

    • @diceman199
      @diceman199 7 лет назад

      I can see a use for it if you want to use the hammer for assassination missions and you really need to stop somebody running. It's perfect for that.
      The main problem I have with heatsinks is the low magazine capacity. So you only get a few uses before needing to head back for reload. As I normally bounty hunt in zones rather than taking the assassination missions I've gone for a load out on the conda that doesn't overload the heat too much so I can save the heatsinks for when I really need that shield regen. That way I can stay out a lot longer before having to head back to the station.
      They are also pretty heavy so i don't have any on my AspX that i'm using for long range passenger missions and exploring.

    Don’t think I once used a docking computer.
    I would however buy a computer that automatically requests landing permission, the number of times I request at 7.51KM and get warned off as I slip into the slot is more than a little embarrassing, I mean why else would I fly over to a damned station if not to get inside and unload my cargo/proof-of-love (the holograms Of the eyes/fingers/number-plates of the people stupid enough to not buy off their bounties ASAP).
    Seriously I get randomly fined often enough in some RES that I’m half convinced that a lot of the “wanted” cretins I’m murdering for payola used to be simple junk collectors minding their own business while shooting rocks only to have the local security forces interdict them, scan their everything (for later upload online), threaten their mothers and deliberately low-orbit valuable asteroids in order to meet their bounty quota through entrapment. We’re basically murdering the Space game version of a domestic violence victim that threatened to speak out then “fell down some steps”

    I have 1 question to all elite players, i just bought an anaconda, and the horizons pack, i have no idea what this engineering stuff is, nor planetary landing, nor new mining. Can someone please point me in a way to get info? So far i only found info about how to improve your engineers, not why you should bother with this.

      In short, the engineers basically upgrades your ship to being 5 times as effective depending on how you want to engineer it.

    Thanjs for the tips. Just started playing and wonder can I swap upgrades between ships and what is the next ship until cobra? Want a all-rounder one.

    • @breytac
      @breytac 6 лет назад

      You can swap moduies between ships as long as they're the same class or below. Also, some ratings of modules can't be fitted due to the fact the mass of the ship is too high. For example, I can fit a class 5 frame shift drive into a class 6 slot, but not the other way around. Minimum class and rating of thrusters I can use is 5E, the other classes just don't have the power to move the ship (Python). As for ships, it's up to your play style. Just remember a ship can only be fit for role at a time. I can fit the python for exploration, combat, trade or passenger missions, but not all at once. Oh, and don't fly without rebuy.

    How can a docking computer be "training wheels"? That's like saying a self-driving bicycle teaches you how to drive.

    Horizons is great when on offer (I got mine as a bundle). But the extra game play isnt worth the full price. P.s. I need a long term goal after acciquiring and loading out my Cobra. So far i am just trying to make frienda with all the engineers I can.

    I'm a Combat guy so here is my list;
    1) VULTURE yes the mighty Vulture because this ship is agile as hell, punchs as hard as Rocky, fast as a jaguar most importanty very low rebuy in cost of Some cargo and some power but anyways if you manage these issues this is the ultimate Combat ship
    2) Pulse Lazers these mother fuckers are the best weapons in game. They are efficient, punches hard and everything
    3)SCB's with heatsinks ofc
    4)ASP X... Since im a combat pilot this is the ship that i use for most of the other things... FDL has only enough fuel to make 2 jumps or anything so i use my aspx to go anywhere and i transfer my ship and make my self a coffee or something till my combat ships to arrive
    5)A fucking Rated Boosters... Agility and speed is not everything but it comes handy when you want to get out of anywhere
    6) Any type of cargo space... even if you are a combat guy you need at least 4 tons of cargo because if you dont have a cargo space you cant take missions which rewards cargo
    7)Multi-Cannons for obvious reasons... You cant kill a guy with only lazers....
    8)A Rated Power distrubuter he mentioned reasons...
    9)D Rated Life support... if you are in combat and your canoppy breaks... 2 things can save you speed and time... light and 7.5 mins are more than enough in any ship to dock...
    10)Module reinforcements... For obvious reasons... If you try to run and they take your trusters or power generator out you are fucked...

    Python is good only for Robigo. Everything else is so-so with it. Terrible maneuverability, terrible jump range, terrible visibility, terrible everything. And please, don't tell me about engineers, because they are able to pump other ships few hundred of times better. If you really want to stay with mid-sized vessels, just buy Kraits. Both of them. That's all you need.

      mate... in one I say "dont buy" in a arcastic manner and in the other i say :buy it as a serious thing.. is it that hard to undersand? (no seriously i' asking this as it's hard for me , the creator, to judge that)

      Using a docking computer can decrease docking time which allows trading runs to go by faster, thus increasing credits per hour. It also gives you a chance to do something IRL while you dock like grab a drink or take a piss and only slightly impact that credits per hour. That's if you want to talk meta. If you don't wanna talk meta... why the fuck is t his a point that needs to be argued? Who the fuck cares? Like seriously. It's a chip that makes life a lil' easier for the busy and plays classical music. Don't like it, don't buy it. With my hand tremors and depth perception issue the docking computer is fuckin' phenomenal. I don't slap it on everything willy-nilly but still.

    Where’s the keybind option for night vision? Instant access to the sub target menu, god damned mouse/eye-tracking within the shitty ship GUI? Non existent that’s where.
