"Explorers are the only ones who need better life support" is a falacy. Explorers spend most of their time thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of ly away from the bubble. At that distance from the nearest station, it's completely irrelevant whether you have 7 or 30 minutes of emergency air.
newman1702 Yep, save the weight and stick in a few AFM's is the way to go.
I agree - dying in exploration is determined by events and decisions long before your remlock drops down - if you're on lifesupport you're already dead. One small caveat to that is that you have to deactivate your lifesupport to repair it and you don't replenish oxygen until you get to a station so you need to be quick with your AFMUing and on *very* long trips you might get through more than 7m30, if you're not going somewhere that needs long jumps and you're going in a tough ship for many many months (or years) it might start to make a difference but there aren't many people like that.
Realistically, you have to be extremely careless to burn through all your emergency air on life support repairs, to the point where your hull and / or power plant would be dead or near death anyway. Longest trip I took was during the Distant Worlds expedition, went to Beagle Point and back, and going back was via a pretty indirect route; whole trip lasted 6 months. Never came close to spending all that emergency air. All the A rated life support does is weigh you down and up the power requirements, there is no practical need for it.
7 months out at the moment with several months still to go on my planned route and have a decent amount left on my D rated life support - there are people who've been out for 2 years - as I said it's a very small group and for the overwhelming majority weight saving is the way to go. But there's always someone who will point things out if you make a generalisation. With engineer reinforced powerplants and hulls it's hard to say what would be the endurance limiting factor but I think it probably would be the life support oxygen.
don't you guys know that spaceships can *synthesize oxygen* and fill up depleted life support if you have the right materials in your possession? So it absolutely makes sense to have better life support. You could actually wait out hours and hours depending on how many materials you have (and you can hold up to a 1000). I think you only need 1 Iron and 1 Nickel to refill your oxygen. So depending on how efficient your life support system is you will be able to wait A LONG TIME for help to arrive... I'm talking about many many hours here.
Docking computer is really nice for grinding. Every docking gives some time to go make a coffee or smoke a cigarete. I can't actually imagine trading without it. Indeed it's more or less useless in other forms of activity.
Same. Currently bouncing between two booms for 4Mil a trip and that auto-dock is a godsend for a ciggy or toilet break, even a snack during the cash grind.
I can't actually imagine spending my time trading... :D And it's a hussle to make breaks all the time when you are using VR. Also, smoking is bad for you man... It really is! :D
Got a courier for canyon racing, also imperial rank grinding. I get interdicted, I boost to 851 m/s and leave them behind. I can dock, take care of my transactions, boost once and be on my way again. It's beautiful.
@@michaelmiles2647 I was going to say, “For going to the bathroom but you beat me too it.
Even then I still wouldn't. I trade in a Type-9 and I know for a fact that thing is going to get me jammed in the mailslot and be shot to death while I'm getting food.
I treat auto dock like self driving cars - relax, but know that the thing could fuck up at any moment.
I use auto docking because I'm a lazyfuck and you can't stop me!
I laugh at people who use auto docking when it slams them into the docking pad or a wall XD
I use it for my type-7 because it is a flying brick, but for smaller ships I do not.
same
Quite funny. 20p
Auto Docking was cool when I first got it.... but quickly grew out of it for fast dock manuevers so sexy it makes me happy inside (and jizz outside).
I like how docking computer was also on your list of things you SHOULD buy.
It’s sarcastic dude.
@Evilmike42 it was virtually essential in the original game. Docking was so much harder in that that ED.
I will never go without a docking computer
@@jimmyb2043 lol
I use a docking comp just because of the music
2001 a space odyssey
blue danube
I use a docking computer, because I'm sick of maniacal AI pilots, who come screaming out of the air-lock mailslot, while I'm trying to enter with an Anaconda, which handles like its on rails... But yeah, the music is great too, especially if you're really old like me and played the original Elite long ago and like Stanley Kubric movies
I used to play the original also back in the day, as I remember auto docking took it's sweet time in docking compared to this game.
Wut r u doing...DOCKING!!! *interstellar theme intensifies*
I like to carry one can of bio waste and jettison that for PVP pirates.
Ergo Gray , I like to carry a few tons of it so I can get a good belly laugh at the silly AI pirates that interdict you and say the magic sentence, "gimme all your tasty cargo" :-D
(∩ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)⊃━☆゚.*
Biowaste is what got me my Conda from doing several Sothis runs.
Jettison it all over a station yeah cops pick up my poop
I like your style
I agree with all except the sensors, especially for bounty hunting. Those extra few km can make the difference of 200,000 credits if there's an anaconda 7km out, otherwise you might miss it completely.
It's not just that. Sensors are based on heat. Better sensors means being able to target silent running/heatsinking target at greater distance. Also some people run really cold ships, they can disappear from your radar at 3-4km without silent runing or using heatsink if you have shitty sensors.
200k is nothing. I can make 20 mil in less than five minutes at any given time trading....
@@floydthedroid5935 well.. I'm curious - how?
@@SuMaSLo happy to assist. Use eddb.io to locate low buy & high buy opportunities. Use a type 9 with 752 tonne capacity, 8 jumps at 32ly. Thus you maximise your profit. Most routes are within 2 or 3 jumps. Rinse & repeat, print your preferred denomination.
@@floydthedroid5935 Recognize that the economies have changed in the 3 years sense that person posted the comment. Also, when you're doing a hi-res run or doing combat, It's just dozens of free 200k ticks every few seconds. I can wipe out a wing in a few seconds and if each gives me an extra 200k, that's substantial. You get the 2mil bounty plus 200k extra and it's all just picked up when you're baring down.
Complaing about a docking computer in a universe with all this technology that you can't even get the computer on your ship to drop out of warp and not be flying into a star, or drop out of supercruise when at approach vector? Its like having a nav system that can take you to a city but cant find a street address.
Sophia Bogard I like the fact that it drops you out into the orbit of a Star. It STILL startles me a bit
It will never not piss me off, especially due to the way the fsd works in the game lore, I feel like it should drop you looking away from the sun but still near it unless you select a station or planet in your route
"yeah, we've got the technology for FTL travel, FTL communication, and fighter-class ships come with replicator-style manufacturing on-board, but a computer that can dock your ship? That thing your own home computer in 2021 is literally doing every time you use a docking computer? That's gonna take up as much space as two tons of cargo."
Mining lance is secretly really good: at 2 km it has 4x the mining range, so it can sample & drill rocks without having to bump your nose into them.
Nothing says Space Sim better than admiring your ship landing flawlessly on a docking pad with a bit of classic music in the background . And it makes grinding courrier and tourism missions so much less tedious . I love my docking computer ! :P
Arissa Invincta !
I'll be honest I use the adv. docking comp and supercruise assist with my type 9 because it lets me watch netflix and not pay attention to my ship when trading
lets face it Supercross assist is a life saver when you jump in and see 150,000 LS+. Set assist. Walk away for 30 minutes (or longer) come back. Done.
I stopped using autodock after it rammed my corvette in to the station loosing it permanently. But I shouldn't have undocked with less credits than the insurance anyway... That one is on me.
@@oceanbytez847 yea i had a station that was 200,000 Ls away. Watched a full episode of anime in that time lol
@@BlackCrusader Yeah never fly without a rebuy, the autodock computer will genuinely just find ways to fuck up. I wouldn't ever leave my PC with it.
I use my docking computer in the shower
??? Not toilet?
@@Nordlicht05 asking the real, important questions 🤣
Personally, I think the worst thing to buy in this game is Elite Dangerous: Arena
You get it for free.
"You get it for free." and thats still too expensive :P
eh, dont play it
nobody does anyway :P
Pretty sure that was the joke ;)
well, you can also buy it seperately
I used docking computers when I first started cuz I would accidentally press the boost button and end up crashing into a cruise ship
Lol happens every time, i open steam overlay and whhhooosh, bang, explosions
"If you look to your left you will see a rampaging noob, this is why albatros cruises only carry A rated shield generators, for your comfort"
Zeal warrior Gaming haha I just started and I literally saw someone do that as I was about to exit station. Both blew up literally in front of my platform.
I know this video is like 5 years old, but I wanted to say, upgrading your sensors increases the accuracy of gimballed and turreted weapons significantly.
i use docking computerbecause i can do whatever i want in the time:D
Diggsano yeah. It's like a cool losding screen. And loading screens are cool right? Right?...
Diggsano docking computer is just a waste of compartments. Better fit some extra armor!
Why the hostility David? Its ony a certain type of people it seems , who get all superior and condescending when trying to express their opinion about someone using a docking computer.
the certain type with brains?
Nah the kind of person that would defend that kind of behavior .
Being British Auto docking makes me feel at peace while I wait in a quew for 5 minates.
I use the docking computer because 90% of the time when I arrive at an outpost I am left wondering where the fuck is my landing pad? Also the mail slot on those spinning cube like stations can be a pain in the arse to find when you don't arrive at an angle that can see it. My standard docking procedure is
1. Request docking
2. Use auto dock
3. Work out where I need to go
4. Manually go to landing pad (Much faster because idgaf about the speed limit unlike the docking computer)
5. Attempt a speed dock
6. Fuck up
7. Be incredibly happy that frontier didn't make collisions with object bypass shields
8. Allow docking computer to correct my fuck up
9. Laugh at elitist still trying to find the right landing pad
The compass actually shows you the direction of your assigned landing pad. I used to have this problem myself, then i saw one video where the guy hinted that the compass shows you the direction of the landing pad.
But oh well... I guess the landing pad will just make the whole process itself much faster, and less frustration with finding the entrance.
i7r00p3r The compass does work on outposts, but it can be hard to see sometimes because of the odd shape of outpost stations.
Fexisepic even with those starports that one enterence and the others are look alike.
My issue wasn't finding the docking pad, it was getting stuck (and I mean STUCK, nearly impossible to free myself) in the damn airlock when I tried to roll the ship looking for the landing pad.
That's what I get for flying a space brick freighter.
Honestly, I don't get why someone would buy docking computer... Because flying in Elite: Dangerous is so much fun! And landing inside stations is fun too, you get to test your pilot skills, getting there fast and clean... Or fast and dirty... Or just getting there... ;D I enjoy every landing! Am I weird or is there more of us? :D
Michal Valta Right here with you, never owned a DC because I can do it better.
Michal Valta nah docking computers are awesome, they reduce stress, plus classical music
well i like the flying too but sometimes i play elite a different way... maybe you know the game euro truck simulator? it's gameplay is not that engaging but somehow it is extremely relaxing for me. The same thing goes for trading in elite for me. i trade in the game and watch some netflix to relax. the docking process requires me to focus and maybe i'd miss a part of my show so i gladly leave it to the computer ^^
I only use Docking Computers on very large ships, like the Anaconda or Type-9 Heavy, because these ships are bigger than Westminster Abbey and handle about as well, when you're trying to take them through the mailslot of an airlock on space stations.
If you have a beluga.. you buy one
The one thing cytoscrambler is good for is the scramble spectrum experimental - it lets you disable multiple modules on the targeted ship simultaneously instead of just one.
Torpedoes are excellent for PvP. Life support for an explorer who is 5k Ly out very much useless.
Torpedoes aren't "excellent"... They can be viable against some builds. But a single stupid point defence is gonna ruin your day. :D But why are torpedoes only "excellent for PvP"? Well, because it's a completely cheese tactic that takes no skill. (I know cause I did it :D) You just pick a target with strong shields and no point defense, launch your torpedoes and then finish his hull. Can you do that in PvE? Yes you can. So why is it only "excellent in PvP"? Beacuse it's such a dumb playstyle. It's not fun to rearm after every single encounter. Besides, the tactic is so cheesy, you are gonna get bored with it pretty soon. It doesn't take any real piloting skill. Killing someone with Plasma Accelerators or Railguns is just SO MUCH MORE FUN! :D
Thank you Dracula now I know
i wany your bleeehhhd
I use the docking module when i do passenger missions, cause "OMG Hull Damage SCREAMING AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Why not just not damage your ship when you're docking?
@@eranwilliams4098 Why are you replying to a random ass comment from 2 years ago?
@@robertpendli340 I guess I wondered if you ever figured out how to dock.
@@eranwilliams4098 I did, boost full speed in an absolutely maxed out cutter.
In all seriousness yes, also I stopped playing months ago
I use Autodocking when I'm going from station to station a lot. That way, I can use the time that the ship is docking to set up my next jump.
The Cytoscramblers are one of the most OP small weapons in the game. They do 44+ dps when upgraded. Chieftain with three of these is a helluva thing
If you do interceptor combat (particularly in a krait mk2), A-rated lightweight engineered life support will allow you to finish the fight when your canopy goes into obit
Ive been upgrading my ships power plants first, then worked on bring all my ships core equipment to the same tier upgraded tier. Once that's completed, I upgrade the plant and repeat the process with the next tier. I intended this to keep my ships from ever accidentally exceeding its power capacity, but i realize investing in each tier may result in me throwing away some extra bones. Ive only been playing with decent time investment for about a month and half now so im not driving driving anacondas around right now, mostly my type 6. For those who have been around for the long haul and are driving bigger ships, would you say this method is practical despite its cost or no?
I once bought a Viper IV.. I used to to transport Bio Waste. It was My first shit, I mean ship, not the sidewinder. I don't usually check these things up beforehand.. Apart from the lack of steering, I noticed they constructed it out of wet cardboard.
"you're not isaac clarke" I completely lost it lmao
Personally I love my Viper Mk 4. With all the upgrades. It earned me a lot of money and took numerous scalps. But great videos The Yamiks I always have a good belly laugh at your videos. Keep them coming mate. Cheers
Use to hate on docking computers, and figured "hey, if you aren't good at docking then you suck at piloting."
But now, after playing since release, it's like owning a Tesla, I've paralleled parked (and docked) hundreds of times, fuck it let the car (ship) do it for me, I'm alt tabbing.
I bought a docking computer to increase my time looking at memes between tasks
I may be late, but for the honourable mentions:
Agriculture stations actually buy Biowaste at a respectable price. Won't get you as much money as something like Polymers when trading, but its cheap and therefore little risk for a pretty okay reward
Horizons is worth it for the engineers and the SRVs. When you get sick of flying, go planetside and drive around some. It's fun doing some neo-tokyo drifting in a settlement.
I have to use Auto-Dock for my large ships. It's either that or I forever get stuck in the mailslot.
I did the Huttson run. Thought i'd get a mug for my dashboard
*dissapointed CMDR noises*
Is it bad that I used viper mkiii bounty hunting to get dolphin? I've been doing passenger missions first one I did was an 800k credit sight seeing tour felt like I flew for 1000 damn lightyears
If you found it fun and enjoyable ?? Then it isn't bad.
I am sorry, Auto-dock is really useful if you fly the big brick ships. Type 9 - 10, the two Imperial dreadnoughts. They are difficult to position in a mail slot, especially if you don't go out of your way to straighten out, follow the speed limit and it gives you better NPC avoidance because you will be added in the que to enter a station. But true, always learn how to pilot your ship by yourself, practice makes perfect, and you might get stuck (Tip: if you get stuck in the mail slot, jiggle the landing gear)
If this was made today, Arx would be #1 on the list.
I Love my Docking Computer, always Time for making Coffee :o)) and with VA a great think. But a great Video and i agreee in nearly any other Point. Greetings
1. Live Support: Don't ever buy other live support then D rated when you are an explorer. If you are real live hours away from the bubble, that increased air supply won't help you at all.
2. Cobra 4: Really a dissapointment after the 3. But for its price, you can actually make a decent miner out of it.
The docking computer is really valuable for traders, supply missions or passengers. When you do a run over and over, docking really gets old fast. When you got 700+ cargo the couple of extra is useless. I don't think people quite know how to use it. Don'y engage it too early and will be faster than manual docking now matter how great you are. Just fly to the mail slot and throttle down there have the pilot take you the rest of the way.
Not using auto docking is like having cruise control but deciding to go on a thousand mile trip down a straight highway and resorting to using your right foot... only...
Cytoscramblers on a Chieftain with phasing- They pop big ships shields like nobody's business. Their DPS is on par with a huge burst laser, and combined with corrosive, they do pretty decent sustained DPS on hull too. Basically, the best laser weapon you can fit on a small slot.
Hey it's 2020 and i just came across this vid :P.
My advice in conjunction to those with Yamics are:
10. Do not go over D Life Support, but if you plan on Combat, absolutely go with D Life Supp., do not stay with E, especially if you are not absolutely great with the game yet. Those additional 2,5 minutes of air is a must.
9. On Point.
8. Good, but take into consideration the ship you want to fly(is it nimble or is it an Federal Gunship already) and always compare the mass and the benefits between Hull Reinforcements in the Optional Internals and the Hull in Core Internals.
7. Look-up Vindicator Jones for this, also look up if you can fly this thing shieldless and survive. If yes, then go with it, but keep chaff launchers or/and point defence ready. I Hated the ship until i bought it. My fighting style is quite sluggish to begin with, so Viper Mk IV > Mk III. Personally, i did not like Cobra Mk3. It is said to be small, but it is fat imo.
6. On Point.
5. On Point, but i never bothered to go with D, especially with power hungry ships like the Vulture. For the Vulture, go with E but definately go with D Life Support, those 0.08 extra power drain does not hurt.
4. If you have a power Hungry ship, and you use f.e. 4 out of your 5 Hardpoints (This was me in my FAS), then you can use it there. I slapped a Torpedo Pylon on the 5'th Hardpoint and never regretted it. IT DOES NOT DRAW POWER! It is like Son Goku's Genki Dama, if you catch my drift. There were situations where i had to use it. ALSO! in PvE oftentimes the Enemy ship runs away from the Torpedo and focuses on not being hit. If you know you are going to loose the fight, target the ship, shoot the torpedo as a distraction and run the F%^& away while your target concentrates on the torpedo. (I killed about 3 FDL's with it in my Viper, as at the time, i only had base game and no credits for the All 'A' Vulture)
3. don't buy this ship, really. If you made the credits to afford a Scout, you can make more to buy the Explorer.
2. Can't say anything about this one as i did not like the Cobra III.
1. In terms of pledges, there are two i like in terms of the equipment it gives. The one with the Pack Hound Rockets and the one with the Prismatic shields. Also remember, if you think both are unattainable because of the grind. Yes, the grind is there, but if you master one all the way up THEN HALF YOUR LOYALTY POINTS CARRY OVER IF YOU SWITCH PLEDGES TO ONE OF THE OTHER MASTERS. This is smart, as you can really make a lot of points later on being allied with one person, and then have almost no drawbacks if you pledge to another one (if you play it right off course).
HONORABLE MENTIONS: The Docking Computer - go with standard. Flying out of the station is no biggie.
Here's a trick for you guys who like to build particular kinds of PVP ships. If you want to make a ship to Ram the absolute dogshit out of someone with use those e-rated modules for your hull reinforcements. As opposed to 720 they will only provide 680 worth of protection but they will add 22 tons onto your ship for each size 5 that you install. Ramming is absolute damage so if you want to wreck someone by ramming them berated modules are the way to go. The rest of your modules can be b rated which are also heavy modules. You may want to keep your thrusters rated a for Optimum ramming speed.
If you're mining, exploring, or trading, yes sensors are useless. If you're bounty hunting or pirating in a RES they're a must
Honestly if an explorer looses their canopy in the middle of nowhere an A-rate will not help them. No point at all. It can kinda be useful to a combat pilot where you might need a few minutes to get out of there, or it could buy you enough time to finish the job if your canopy is frail (I'm looking at you Vulture!)
I'LL NEVER GIVE UP MY VIPER MK4
That's fine, because nobody will buy it off you!
OH GOD I GAVE IT UP SO QUICK
Learned the game with the docking computer...was "I'll never be able to dock these things"...yea, about 3 weeks later I did a mining build that had no room for it, docking like a boss now...BUT, I hate looking for the landing pads, and sometimes finding the stupid docking airlock is hard to find even when you know WHERE it should be. Docking computers are nice in that you get to take a break and hit the rest room, grab a beer, etc.
Docking computer is nice to have for mining or some long range stuff, I really don't want to fly though a spinning mail slot after 10+ jump, not because I can't I just tired.
Ah, Biowaste. Probably a thousand better things to do if you're doing trade runs, but it's a good fallback if you're doing a loop that goes back to an agro world. Those stations love their fertiliz- I mean, biowaste.
And then there's the docking computer. I use that, because I prefer to let it slip my 'Conda through the mail slot instead of getting a haircut EVERY time.
As for Explorers and life support. Actually, a 30-minute air supply IS useful, assuming you have enough Synth materials on hand to refill it while racing back to the nearest inhabited system as fast as you can. Remember, it's eight hours between the bubble and the Colonia bubble with a good jump-configured ship. That's 16 refills which are actually cheap to have on hand. And chances are, if you're on the Orion Arm-half of the galaxy, you are at least in range of getting to SOMETHING in that time. You may end up stressed to rush back, but it might be worth the hassle if the choice is to lose your ship AND hours upon hours of earnings, or play like a survival game for a few hours.
Actually, that leaves me wondering. If you land on a planet and go into an SRV for emergency materials collection while the canopy is blown, does life support still count down while you're off scootin' around?
life support is very important to me , when cockpit glass broken , it can help me to get back to base with more oxygen ! Saving much money to rebuy ship ! Docking computer is for huge ship , star port exit is to small for huge ship to enter , and Docking computer can prevent huge got stuck !
This video says mining lances are bad but they are good in one specific circumstance, mounting on the wings of the imperial cutter. The short range of normal lasers and the long length of the cutter means the normal lasers won't always reach.
The docking computer is good for the really large ships too, mine has never failed to fit an imperial cutter or anaconda through the mail slot while I've got the ships stuck multiple times
The real Nr.1: A transport service for your 1billion+ imperial cutter to Colonia for a mindblowing fee of 132% of the original costs ;)
There is only one thing wrong with the Cobra Mk IV - its name. That ship has nothing in common with the legandary Cobra Mk III (speed, maneuverability and ... more speed).
But it is actually more or less a Mini-Python. It has tons and tons of optional internal slots with decent size for a ship of its size. That makes it a perfect ship for mining, planetary stuff or just an overall good ship that can do a lot of things without changing the loadout. It is even quite a decent passenger ship for people who are on a strict budget.
Yes, it is slow. But if you're not into combat, it's an incredibly versatile ship for a bargain. Just engineer the crap out of it and you end up with a more than decent small, cheap vessel.
The Cobra Mk IV is one of very few ships in the game where I run out of ideas what to fit into the compartments and simply throw cargo racks in.
Do I wish FD had not crippled the speed and manoverability of the Mk IV and made it a real Cobra while keeping all its benefits? Sure I do. But then the outcry over it being an exclusive ship for early Horizons buyers would be all over the forums. Not to forget what FD did to the Python in the past. Remember the time when it did not only have those phantastic internals but also speed and maneuverability of a fighter? The Mini-Python (aka Cobra Mk IV) received the same "treatment".
I enjoy my docking computer, mainly because I'm a lazy little shit with an crippling addiction to my phone, and really is there anything that's actually useful you can put in that class one module space? Plus who doesn't like having a computer do your work for you while you kick back and listen to classical music?
want top 10 to buy next. Great Channel.
it's already out.. check it out!
I'll check your uploads right now!!
I love docking computers because in the 90's I worked my butt off to get one of those and "On the beautiful blue Danube" is now Arthur C Clarke triumphant paradise music. You young whippersnappers wouldn't understand.
Can you even imagine if only manual docking was possible for the first week of gameplay and was as difficult as in Elite 1? The Steam reviews would be full of whiny babies.
"You're buying literal shit"
Surprised none of these comments used that as a comparison to Fleet Carriers (I for one like them, and a lot of others do, but a lot of people don't)
Docking Computer = Cigarette Breaks while I let the computer land me.
If you can smoke a cigarette in such a short time, you probably have a very serious issue man! :D
Should probably note the Imperial Eagle now as well, considering its twice as expensive as the regular Eagle II and half as maneuverable.
Damn I own half of those, the landing comp is a must have for me since I have docking in the orbital stations with big ships
Life support matters for explorers as well. If you decide to call for Fuel Rats to save your arse, you'll have better chances.
Wait... I was under the impression that A-rated sensors boost the range at which you clearly see targets. For bounty hunting in a RES this can be very useful, since you can tell big targets (worth a lot of credits) from the little shitnuggets who are barely worth the time and effort.
Just going to say that buying biowaste isn't as dumb as it sounds. Every station sells it, rarely for more than 15 credits a tonne. However, you can generally sell it at Agricutural stations for a shit tonne of profit.
Ive done a thousand manual landings. Im quite good at them actually. That doesnt mean it isnt nice to have the dock cpu when Im feeling lazy, or when I wanna go grab a drink or reply to a text or something its nice knowing while I am afk my ship is docking lol
sensors affect gimbal/turret accuracy
Am I the only one who doesn't understand the purpose of ECM's? Why use it over Point Defence?
ECM can disable multiple missiles/limpets at once anywhere near your ship while PD needs line of sight to shoot them one at a time.
Also ECM is guaranteed to neutralise anything hostile that has a guidance system in the pulse radius. Point defence on the other hand is not guaranteed to neutralise the threat as it has destroy the threat which usually takes several shots to do and the point defence units can only target one threat at a time. If you're flying in the bubble, you can probably get away with using point defence since most NPCs space out firing off things that point defence will target so there's only one thing to shoot down at a time... But if you're going after Thargoids, you'll probably want ECM. Since Thargoids seem to like to throw missiles at you all at the same time.
If you have fast ship, boost away, let your PD take care of it. The distance gives it more time. If you have slow ship, use ECM and disable whatever is coming your way. Trying to buy more time by running away is probably not gonna be worth it in less manoeuvrable ships.
I used Viper MkIV to a great effect for those planetary assault missions. It packs a decent amount of rockets, soaks tons of damage and has low enough rebuy to not care about any hiccups along the way. Or maybe I even selfdestructed after the assault was complete to save the time...? Nevertheless, it's a pretty viable small ship with some pros and cons. Not every ship needs to be as excellent in their category as Cobra Mk III, Python or Anaconda.
This, Viper 4 is a brilliant surface strike fighter, because the agility doesn't matter as much as pure tanking power.
I'd argue that even for explorers anything other than D rated life support is pointless. If you're deep into the black and you lose your canopy or run out of fuel, even A rated life support isn't saving your ass unless the Fuel Rats come to save it, and they'll tell you to log out to preserve it anyway.
Besides, the materials to synth refills are so cheap even D rated life support should last at least an hour if you're paying any attention at all to your materials.
I use auto docking computer because it’s kind of like gambling with my ship! Gives quite a rush wondering “will this be the time my computer tries to dock through the side of the station, or am I safe to eat some more Totinos Pizza Rolls?”
do the Ngallin / Mainani run thousands of times and you'll be thanking your fingers that you have a docking computer. yes for a combat ship it is USELES, but for a courrier or exploration, is damm near essential to avoid fatigue.
Viper MK4 makes a decent mining ship for cheap money. ~1mil to get a decent outfit.
Medium laser, 2 limpets, 6-Bin refinery, 32 tons of cargo.
It can also get decent warp range for a beginner ship. And it's not toothless, like Type 6 while having almost the same cargo hold.
I watched this video at work. BIG MISTAKE... I laughed so hard I almost pooped a little. You earned yourself a sub, sir.
=}
some pvp builds use A rated life supports so they can save power and still have enough time to fight their battles.
torpedo pylons can also be extremely useful in pvp if you use them correctly... i often carry them around when doing bounty hunting in case some boneheaded commanders think they can ambush while im fighting npc's... this often turns the tides right back arround and make them lose some self respect in the process.
A quote from Sandro in my forum post about rebalancing the Asp Scout:
"Yes, we agree that the Asp Scout could use a TLC and is a priority contender when we next look at ship tweaking."
If you are interested in looking at it yourself, just search "Rebalancing the Asp Scout" in the Suggestions & Feedback section of the forums.
Ironically before watching this I bought a mk4 and put torpedos on it and I learned my lesson directly after looking at the ammo count
Buy the docing computer, but only the standard one. I use the docking time to pick my next destination, also you don't need the A rated Warrant scanner
Cytoscramblers actually deal up to 150 dps to shields (Inertial Impact/Overcharged G5) each, meaning they outdmg any similar Grade 4 Weapon by far. Btw fixed is the general PvP choice for all weapons because of chaff and dispersal field.
There are enough ships that have a few small hardpoints, yeah you could use corrosive munition mcs there, but what are you doing with 3 small hardpoints on a chieftain for example...? ^^
If you are lacking general firepower, you'll have no use for your feedback cascade, drag munition missiles or a. m. corrosive munition MCs...^^
Beluga Liner - liked the look of it, saved up for it, bought it and then destroyed it 3 times in 30 minutes - all within a space station and the third time actually when autodocking ! (the tail fin got hooked up on a tower in the station (yes, even on autodock) and it wouldn't come unstuck. 3 times insurance plus losing 10% of the ship's value when I sold it straight away cost me about 27 million.... Hmmmm.....
I should perhaps add that I use my Orca (without shields or weapons so as to maximise jump range and passenger cabins) to earn me lots of cash by transporting rich people and doing site seeing trips etc - and have no problems docking it with or without the aid of the computer. In fact, the only ship I've ever had problems with inside a station is the Beluga.
Without shields? 😂 No wonder it cost you 27 million you noob 😆
FD should put the docking computer into the ship functions panel and free up the module slot. If you don't want to use autodocking, then just disable it in the functions panel. The year is 3304 for CRYING OUT LOUD and the ships don't know how to autodock without an add-in?
I tried to use PAUSE and guess what, came from the bathroom and the ship was literally on fire, basically the pilot died and all the cargo and cartography gone.
Now I will just log off.
First thing I buy on any of my ships is the best life support. Lost a FDL because someone blew out my canopy, life support ran out when I was less than 100m from the outpost landing pad.
Just meant that you needed to be about 20% faster =}
Being honest, if I feel lazy I'll use the docking computer, if I am in a hurry I don't use it.
I will never go without a docking computer. I dont fly small ships, and I'm able to watch your videos while chilling out to some relaxing music.
I saw that changeling. Yamiks, you filthy brony. I
I would agree with the stock Mk4 but if you spend time and play with the engineers it become quite the speedy and manuverable beast. You just have to be careful of the heat and power drain. If you mod with that in mind you can get a very good ship.
Type 9 is the only ship I like the docking computer for. Mainly because that thing handles like a tipped over semi.
A rated sensors do give a boost to gimbal weapons. plus longer range allows you to find more valuable ships for bounty hunting.
I LOVE my Viper MkIV! :D It's true that it can be sluggish in a turn, but it also has very strong shields and hull for a ship this small. My own ViperIV has something like 2000 hull health when kitted out for combat.
i use a docking computer because lately ive been mostly doing passanger missions, so I'm as close to auto pilot as possible so i can do school work while i play.
The argument for the Viper 4 instead of Cobra for mining. It's got armour and shields in excess of the cobra 3 for all the same space. Also, A-rated is cheaper because its shields and a few other components are size3 instead of 4. Less for combat more for bonking your nose on rocks. Cobra 4 though. Its mining capabilities rival a fricken ASPX more than 7 times its price.
Some people don't like mining. Hate it with a fiery burning passion. That is fair. I quite enjoy it.
Sensors: Ok...? For the power and minimal cost on them really, if you really want to resolve all the targets around you, as a trader for security, or for the scan materials
. A class plus long range is insane. Also, if you have long range weapon mods it pretty necessary. You want to rail folk at 10km, you need to see them!
David North but the class 8 Sensors on the anaconda are so frigging heavy...
That's a very fair point. I think what I mean to say is that saying "Never A grade sensors, its a waste of money all the time" is incorrect, but definitely do what's right for your build. If you need the range or can make use of it, it's a decent option in most ships - if you need the range. But especially on an exploraconda, yeah feck no. There is the handy new lightweight mod, that the anaconda gets the most out of because of that very issue. I almost always class D Sensors and Life Support. Combat Condas are a strange breed, from what I hear. They have the firepower, but they move like the old Earth naval Destroyers they have the dimensions of, so any weight saving is important, yeah.
Sorry but, I'd use the Docking Computer regardless of skill... its nice being able to just hit a button and 'boom' you're landed. you sometimes land faster with it, or sometimes longer, depending on the station and your position. But it taking longer isn't a bad thing... I usually use that time to get me a drink, or reply to a message, use the bathroom, get some food, you name it. Its nice to be able to just 'set it and forget it' so you can do some real life things... Plus, it means you are safe sooner, and for longer. if you have a full load of void opals, you wouldn't want a pirate to come by and just shoot ya and take it all while you're away... so you can use this to get a jump start on whatever it is ya need to do, while staying safe and progressive. . .
The viper 4 makes a great Taxi, to get you to and from places you want to buy ships. (not so good as a combat ship) and the Torvalian Mining lasers don't just do damage in combat (I know, why bother), but they do have an increased range on the standard mining lasers.
I use the docking computer because docking over and over when you are playing courier gets annoying fast.
Just got into this game a few days ago, wanted to watch some vids while having my morning coffee and you sir are a gem. I laughed so hard watching this. Amazing...simply amazing.
Mining Lances are good. They're a 2Km range Mining Laser. For Mining. Ignore the combat side.
Also Viper 4 is an FAOff ship.
Viper 4 is freaking beast of a machine for newcomers who are willing to learn few FA off tricks!
I always fit a docking computer if I have the space in whatever build I'm running. Yes I can dock manually, and usually do it fairly well. I just don't like having to do it all the time.
Its fun and somewhat challenging when you do your very first attempts to land manually but eventually it gets really boring and repetative like everything in the game. So its better to have both supercruise assist and docking computer if you have space. Scanning systems as an explorer without supercruise assist turns into some kind of boring work you dont get paid for.
Life support is pretty useless for explorers too, there's no way it will get you back to the bubble.
someone tried to gank me with torps when i was landing on a planet. i can say, their fire rate is underwhelming and my totally unengineered anaconda suffered no damage as i ignored them and finished landing.
