What you really should do: Look up all the locations of the abandoned INRA bases that have thus far been discovered and visit them. Bring an SRV. Download and read (often listen to) the logs. It is a bit of a project and can take a few weeks depending on how much and long you play each day but it is very much worth it to catch up on lore... and mystery around the 'goids. Another good idea is to do the same thing with all the generation ships. There are 15. 16 if you count the new Golconda. Visit each of them and learn their fate. And yes: Wearing pants isn't exactly optional.
I still refer to the "learning curve" in Elite as "The Brick Wall of Learning" Where either you slam against it at full sublight, or clear it after slamming into it repeatedly a hundred times.
You absolute madman, you got all those ships in one place. ALL OF THEM. IN ONE PLACE. And for what it's worth, I DID get into Elite because of your videos [and getting it from a friend on sale]. I salute you. o7
Take a small ship out with repair and fuel limpet controllers and just go to several places and clear out all the signals, including the distress beacons. NOTE: Didn't know this the first two times I did these things, but you have to accept the mission BEFORE you refuel/repair the ship or they'll take it and scoot off. Those things pay in ARX quite well too.
I didn't know I could unlock a paint job for completing the new tutorial. I hope the midnight black paint jobs return for 2019 Black Friday, I didn't know about those last time. I'm always the last to know everything.
reddit and PowerPlay discords are full of helpful community, just ask. And I would add DO play in open (at least a little). The galaxy is vast and empty, and after you change your RemLok waste filter the first time you see another player, drop an o7 in the local chat and have a little small talk to liven things up.
I have been on a ED hiatus since last spring and still have no urge to play.. I'm a day one player and stopped playing for a year awhile back and came back to new players only a month or 2 in owning every ship it took me MONTHS and MONTHS to earn and even owning Corvettes.. I was devastated at how bad frontier destroyed the economy by making the game millennial friendly (making everything easy and fast to achieve)... I still didn't own a Corvette, but was able to finish my fed rank off in one sitting at damaged stations... I miss when having an Anaconda or Corvette was a status symbol... Now there is nothing to work toward in the game.. I have been to every sector and seen everything worth seeing and visiting.. I am now waiting for Frontier to drop news of their next big DLC to see if that wins me over to come back.. I miss the grind
the Viper MK IV is a fine ship to hunt down pirates or with the type 7 for delivery missions that i'm still getting used to by not beeing shot down from these pirates *EVERY TIME* ... unless in those safe systems
Contrary to what you would believe, I've actually became more good on this game thanks to for videos! Of course I've seen other videos that offered a more tutorial way than yours which I feel are more aimed at entertainment. Thanks for the video!
Egineer a jumping Diamondback explorer. i'm not joking. it is something every commander should have if he/she wants any mobility at all. you won't believe how much time and effort that thing saves, and how much of a Formula one car that ship feels once engineered properly. once you reach endgame you can do a jumpaconda, but i at least recommend having a Full jumping DBX. you'll not regret it.
Thanks Yamiks for bringing back the Squeaky Duck sound. Missed that. But also, about that ask for help thing... first time I got interdicted in open, the pirate that killed my sweet, sweet @$$, then offered me "advice" merely reminded me of the 6th thing. "Don't fly in the Open." Your Wank Tank is much safer in Private. Especially if you are not wearing pants.
The only other thing I'd suggest is buy a Viper III, Courier or Imperial Eagle and make it go really fast. Even a Sidewinder can hit 700+. And fly it close to the ground, or in a canyon.
I played the game nonstop for a week, spent most of the time mining, bought python, then had no idea what to do and haven't played since. I wanna get into it but supercruising ruins it a lot for me
I can agree that the Elite Dangerous sub-reddit is actually really useful and helpful! they might disagree with you if there's something you don't like about the game (like something most players might find a minor inconvenience not worth mentioning), but at least they aren't going to be extreme douchebags about it. I know reddit in general can be fickle as hell and there can be a lot of trolling on that site. but it seems like the E:D sub-reddit isn't one of those places you have to worry too much about. even if you don't plan on posting there, its usually full of great info.
Wanted to try this game for a while, got it today for free on epic games and then found out you cant even get out your ship! Disappointed but will still try it out
The official forums are a cesspit because the moderators are not employees, therefore they will form cliques and will ban for act A one person who isn't in their clique and not ban for multiple acts A another they know well. Trolls and forumPvPers know exactly how far they can go through long practice and a group test mentality dictated out on 4-chan and reddit so when someone finds a mod is not playing ball, they will inform each other. And, since the moderators face no censure for abuse of power, they will abuse that power and the trolls know how to use the moderators' peccadilloes to get someone else banned by dragging the conversation over to where the moderator gets personally triggered and then letting the moderator stroke their ego by flexing their privilege on the forums against others.
