I love that you're keeping the traditional soul food recipes alive. You just don't see some of these on the Food Network. Thank you for keeping our culture alive.
so true they're always trying to gourmet something up when they know it's the real deal that all folks from all walks of life really want and love! Trust me even the bourgeoisiest of bourgeois want that good ole slap yo mama soul food recipe not that watered down version they're always trying to serve up on food network!
I LOVE THIS DISH!!!! I was born in 1961 in Harlem Hospital & my Mother’s side is from Charleston SC & Father’s from Fayetteville NC & the food was OFFICIAL!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽✊🏽💪🏽👌🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽
Grew up on Lima beans and ham hocks!!!! Never had it over rice tho. I'm going to try this way!!! My parent also did ham hocks and cabbage, ham hocks and green bean, ham hocks and collard, ham hocks and black eyed peas. Me and my bro didn't know what fast food was!!!! My parents cooked!!! We barely ate out!!! And we never complained. You eat what's presented before you or you going hungry. My parents cooked as a family, we all ate the same thing. Wasn't no options!!!! At dinner time you ate dinner, not snacks, not lunch, not chicken and fries!!! Good video
I'm a white lady this guy cooks so good I one time my computer went out on me it took me 3 months to find him again I almost cried NO Lie! I just thought I’d let you know this recipe was bomb asf! This was first attempt making this recipe and omg so flavorful I followed your recipe to a T expect I used five ham hocks, chopped celery for the flavor and used Morton Nature season blend to replace the celery salt seasoning. I’m making mine with cornbread and white rice with hot sauce on the side....I’m about ready to jump in this pot keep it up!
I'm originally from the South and I absolutely love this dish and LOVED this presentation! I have written it down in my cookbook and can't wait to make it! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!

Philly boy Jay, I started using your recipes to cook a few months ago. You have been such a blessing to my Kitchen😂😂😂 these people really think I can cook😂😂😂
I am cooking salmon cakes and lima beans right now . I live up here in these beautiful blue ridge mountains of West Virginia. If you were near me you could come have dinner with us .
Love it, Love it, Love it! I made this for a family and friends dinner and I can honestly say that it was everything. I have never eaten let alone cooked beans before and I grew up with a Mississippi mama who cooked everything but I never had the desire to even want to try them. However, when we were doing the meal planning we all said what we would bring, I'm usually the first hand up but I wasn't feeling well and so I was chosen to bring the beans. I was horrified because everyone knew I loved to cook and they all loved my cooking but I didn't have the heart or nerve to tell them I had never cooked beans. But this recipe saved my life!!! Now my kids who never ate beans their whole lives either are waiting for me to make more and so I shall! LOL. Thanks for this video and loved the website of recipes. Keep'em coming:)
Watching your videos do something to my soul 😩🥰🥰🥰 and then when I make your recipes it’s never a disappointment ❣️ you’re the best!!! You said it 100%. Man Phillyboy really stuck his feet in those beans. Only one thing wrong with them, I wasn’t there to eat any. Keep up the good work. Love ❤️
Large white/Lima an Red beans is a New Orleans tradition red beans on Monday, large white/Lima beans on Wednesday serve with cornbread for the red beans and white beans D&D smoke sausages for both this is a must, but you will also wanna put nice ham hocks in the Large white/lima beans

I'm soaking my black eyed peas over night for New Year's dinner tomorrow and I'm cookin during the Mummer's Parade . I just found 2 bags of dried lima beans. Right away I searched for this same exact recipe that my momma always made for me. I grew up across the river from Philly near Camden N.J. and I'm noticing a lot of the meals you are making are exactly the same that my momma makes. I'm wondering if our recipes are southern recipes with a Philly/NJ touch. Happy New Year and Fly EAGLES Fly! 😉
Dog gone I just ran across this video and I am cooking lima beans ham hocks with rice. This looks absolutely delicious I am making it for New Year’s man I’ll write you back to let you know how it turned out but I know it’s going to be oh so good thank you!!! 👼🏾
