One of the greatest endings to any movie ever. Simple, yet powerful and as full of emotion as any of the scenes that came before it. After the lavish and extravagant dinner that the movie was building towards and the bitter conflict that came from it, the final moments are ones of silent reconciliation and brotherly love over eggs and bread. Primo and Secondo are more than likely going to return to Italy or live in poverty in America, but no matter what they do they will do it arm in arm as brothers. Beautiful.

Until I read these comments I thought I was a bit strange for finding this one of the most moving film scenes ever. No movie scene has ever touched me more. The camera moves ONE time. All of the emotions of the film are packed into this scene with nary a word spoken. AND, it’s still all about the food.
There’s a lot of what I would call, GRACE in this scene.

Wow,... That was just three (3) years removed from my time at Boston University (I finished grad school in 1993), and lived in Brookline, Mass, too! I lived on Washington St and walked to Coolidge Corner every day (via Park Ave) to either catch the "T" to school; or grab a slice of pizza (there was a pizza shop nearby), or to go to the supermarket a few blocks over. Coolidge Corner was a beautiful, clean corner. Those two years there are a favorite memory in my young life. 🤗

This is, strangely, one of my very favorite movie scenes of any film. It serves as the antidote to the entire fim's drama and the mania of the big night itself. And then, there's something timeless in the simplicity of an omellete served with crusty bread.

Imamura Kenichiro It helps that everything that followed was the buildup to and payoff of Primo’s lavish and extravagant dinner, and yet the final moments are one of quiet reconciliation over a simple breakfast that is no frills and only what it needs to be. This scene speaks volumes to those who can see beyond the obvious. The great irony being that after all the fancy food they serve their guests they wind up eating scrambled eggs and bread together suggesting that at the heart of the matter there are only basic, fundamental things in life that matter, like love. Success and glitter always play second fiddle to love. They are striving to be successful but now they have lost everything except each other and they appear to be content with that. One of the finest movies I have ever seen and the movie really does speak to the heart of the Italian ethos. I am privileged to know this first hand.

It's literally, figuratively back to square one. A plain omelette/egg preparation is day one of cooking school. And now that they're broke they don't even have cheese or dill, anything for the omelette. And of course the simplicity of the meal serves as counterpoint to the extravagance of the big night's menu. And splitting it three ways. Yes, chock full of symbolism. One take and he didn't screw up the eggs. Stainless steel and eggs, what a pro, he still has the skills. I need to rewatch it.
