The feeling of insecurity, chaos and global urgency that this scene conveys is incredible. I believe this same scenario (not a zombie apocalypse, obviously) will occur someday for some reason. I can't see a scenario where some global event doesn't happen in the future.
I really hope that they have a plan like this just in case a zombie apocalypse ever breaks out. A safe haven of military ships, a group of servicemen and scientists to help discover the origin. I really think it would be a pretty brilliant plan to have in the back pocket even if there is never any zombie outbreak.
The most terrifying part of this whole seen was the few seconds where it showed the projected loss calculation at 3.5 billion and it was still going up. If there ever was a virus like solanum that was able to spread thruout the world if it didn't get contained to a small pocket, the potential loss could easily exceed 4-5 billion. I don't see a way it would wipe out all of humanity as there would be many potential safe spaces (such as navy carriers, nuclear subs, small islands, basses in Antarctica that could be expanded to fit large groups of people), but the loss would be catastrophic
No virus could do that. Perhaps a bacteria, but viruses actually don't want to kill the host. That's why Ebola has never become like COVID, it's too deadly. Long before it reached 5 billion people it would have mutated to spread easier but kill way less. This virus is unique in that it doesn't need to host to stay alive, it uses it's body like a robot to spread. But that's also not how real viruses work. That's why it's fiction. In reality, if you die, the virus inside you dies too. They say the zombies have no circulatory system because they're dead. But, that would kill the virus.
It'll be catastrophic and might lead to the actual collapse of civilized humanity leading to us either resorting back to small tribes of people and the like if that loss were to happen
A virus would never behave like this because it would burn itself out too quickly. A virus actually doesn't want to kill the host. The most successful viruses are the least deadly, like the viruses that cause the common cold. Look at COVID, it's much less deadly now than when it began and even the early versions only killed like 1%. If a virus evolved to spread that quickly, it would lose a lot of it's lethality along the way. In fact, one of the viruses that now cause colds caused a pandemic in 1858 when it first emerged but it quickly mutated to become far less dangerous. This is actually what makes Last of Us *somewhat* realistic from a zombie apocalypse standpoint. Now, it's still pretty much impossible, but, if anything did it, it'd be a fungus, not a virus or bacteria, because the fungus as we've seen in ants, can keep the host alive while it controls it. However, it's still pretty unrealistic because an ant's brain is so many orders of magnitude less complex than ours', it would be all but impossible for that fungus to evolve enough to take control of our brain or even anything much more complex than an ant.
@@chamberlainalex1I mean the Virus did have a Reliable "Spread System" with it's Ridiculously Fast Incubation and Hardcore Zombies. The main Problem is that the Zekes (as they call them) wouldn't Travel a 1000 miles to some other border, they stay at one Major area and once there is nothing left to do, they go in a dormant like state. The early variants of the virus also had late incubation times, mainly 10 to 13 mins which means the more it spread, the more it got used to the human body and was able to quickly get a new Zeke. My theory is that the earliest strain of the Virus had very Late incubation, enough for the Person to go to some other part of the world and unknowingly spread it somehow and keep that going until either it spread to everywhere or every major Point. Where then the Carriers got turned into Zekes and the chaos started. But even then knowing that the Disease Spread through bites, it still makes me wonder how would it spread. Not like people would just go on Biting each other on a normal basis.
