Always funny to see people interpret this movie as "capitalism bad" when both the main character and his inspiration are bootstrap capitalists. Bigweld's motto is "See a need, fill a need." Sexual innuendo aside that's capitalism 101.

Robots was one of my favourite movies in my childhood, it was downright hilarious from start to finish and even back then as a kid I actually understood most of the adult jokes too which made young me go “Wow I really I think I shouldn’t be hearing these things right now.... well guess I’m just gonna act oblivious so I can continue watching the movie” RIP Robin Williams

I only remember the main character having to wear his cousins (? Or other female relative?) robot parts when he was a teenager. I think they were pink? Was it to show the audience that the family wasn't super well off or was this an analogue of kids clothes are passed down from older family members?
And I also remember the credits song for the German dub performed by Sarah Connor. They still play it occasionally on the radio.

I remembered the long travel scene, Tim maybe mostly bc of TikTok sounds, I remembered parts of the corporation planning things, I also remember the main villains mom, I think I mostly remember Rodney helping out the poor robots, I remember the armpit fart, I think I remembered a decent amount with Aunt Fanny, of course I remembered the domino scene, bender dancing, and I think I kinda remembered some of the fight but I forgot parts of it. I mostly remember a lot of the in between dialogue moments of just randomness. Most the plot I sorta remembered some parts but not really

It just occurred to me Fender probably felt the body dismorphia or discomfort from plugging into not just a woman's legs, but from realizing he grabbed a possibly DEAD robot's lower body.
This is a dark comedy joke with a lot of layers.

    • @goldenhate6649

That whole scene was extremely dark. He gets cut in half, puts on the wrong lower body, realizes its a womans lower body, then realizes its a dead womans lower body.
From a guys perspective, yeah, I would be quite uncomfortable. Not to mention it has heals.
Also at no point was modern politics a consideration here. It was a cross dressing joke as that was a common comedy point in the early 2000’s. If you found this uncomfortable, I recommend not watching very many old cartoons or you will be mortified.
Also, remember, Robin Williams is absolutely no stranger to cross dressing. He had entire movie on it.

This movie was funnier than the Ice Age sequels, it was easy and clever to spot some jokes and media references.
Fender is felt natural funny because he is always had to improvise of obtaining parts and using humor to get through tough until he becomes Rodney friend, Ratchet and Madam Gasket had a good chemistry of a evil son and mother running power takeover on the company, the rusty family are creative and unique personalities.
Rodney goals to work as a inventor and him training himself throughout the years was a good pacing for the film and Cappy being a a former regular before getting a upgrades was a surprise to be hinted in the film.
9:34 Yeah, Tim was a bit annoying. But, his karma throughout the film made it hilarious getting slapped by Fender and kick out of the end credits party.
10:05 Cappy was a good addition to the film, a employee who is once a regular robot and now work at a big corporation with motive to help Rodney getting Bigweld back to work the company as the boss again.
    Theory time.
If Blue Sky studio had better success on this movie than the Ice Age sequels, they could've made another Robot movie. Instead of a sequel, how about a movie based on a book.
Nova's Ark, a robot boy who built robotic animals inspired by tales of Earth animals. It be similar to Rodney story. But, extremely different enough to be it's own thing.

*And one more thing, you gotta keep in mind that the time in the movie is different from the viewer's perspective. I can understand why Big Well changed his mind because it's been many years since someone has personally come to see him and really get him to understand his worth to the robot community or something. Through out Rodney's growth you see some tidbits of him watching Big Well and then it vanishes. This means that ratchet was already starting to weasel his way in. Watched this movie yesterday for the first time in about 12 years. As a 21 year old, I found it fun on rematch. Yeah the dress joke when fender said, "this is wrong" might not have aged well but at the time the intent wasn't to harm.
    Still a good movie

Unrelated, but I remember watching Spy Kids a few times and thinking how bad the CGI is. Turns out, the director, Robert Rodriguez, has so far filmed about ~50% of his movies in his garage, and cut corners in order to save money by doing the majority of the work himself. So much so, that he made $2,000,000 from a movie that he only spent about $7,000 actually making.

This was one of my favorite movies growing up, tho I am only familiar with the Latin American Spanish dub, and it’s HILARIOUS I can’t believe how many references and slang they fit into the movie and is one of the movies I refuse to watch in English tho I might give it a try

I love this movie so much. And I agree that it is very underrated. It came on one time in my youth. I forgot how old I was, but I immediately fell in love with Robots and recorded it on the DVR. Every single day, I had a routine; after getting home from school, I would watch it pronto. My 11 or 12 year old brain found it extremely hilarious with it's rude little jokes and stuff. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Over the years, I moved on and Robots has been there with me. By this time, now I'm in highschool, a sophomore. I couldn't watch it anymore because any streaming services we had didn't have it or my parents didn't want to spend the money on it. My parents love this movie too, or at least my mom does because she loved Robin Williams who did the voice of Fender. Back a while ago, we got a fire stick tv and finally I watched it again after all this time. I felt all the memories come back to me. Anyways, this might seem like a lot to read, but yes, I truly love and appreciate this movie. I'm actually glad to know that a lot of other people like it too!:)
