a reason she sounds British a lot but sometimes Irish is essentially a stage in a new country were a person is about to complete the accent of that area but they still keep their original accent so their vocal chords are conflicted on what accent
i thought it was just the fact that she and her father were northern and it was being pointed out in the video that it was different-sounding to cromwell's akdhkfhdjshshd
I'm so glad they didn't go the "single father is terrible at caring for child" trope. It's so overused. Besides, pretty sure we can all agree this father/daughter relationship is one of the best things in the movie. The overall message of family absolutely sold it for me.
One of the things I loved in this movie is the difference between Mebh's wolf form and Robyn's. Mebh looks like a darker brown Irish wolf that was more common during this time period while Robyn appears like a grey wolf which was more common in the rest of Europe. It is just a small detail but one I adore
The lord protector is literally Oliver freaking Cromwell, the English dictator who began and leaded the conquering of island ‘because god said so’. I think it’s cool.
Also awesome stylization/animation note that i noticed: the wolfwalkers and wolfs are drawn more sketchy and rough, while Robyn and the father are more polished, until she stands up to her father and her design also turns more sketchy as she embraces the wild
The villain seems simple and even understandable until you realize he's Oliver Cromwell, someone who had a great part in the colonization of Irland (I love how subtle the theme of the colonization is in this movie. You hear he's trying to control the people, anything done against him even something as simple as joke gets people punished, he has to leave because of some riot, keeps using the word ''uncivilized'' when talking about Kilkenny, and that's enough). He's a very dark chapter in the country's history and an irish guy even told that seeing him falling of a cliff (not his actual death) was pretty damn cathartic. Also, he didn't want to end the wolves just to keep people from rioting. The killing of the wolves was seen as a symbol of the subjugation. Like ''Oh, we managed to kill a thing you feared for so long! Imagine the power we have, and what we'll do to you, if you dare step out of line!'' He was also a protestant, and you can guess how he clashed religiously with catholic Irland...
There's also a common myth that he banned Christmas but TECHNICALLY he didn't, however he didn't believe in it and Parliament worked on Christmas. We had to learn about him in year 8 and I failed that one topic so I could be wrong.
Also the way he wants to tame the mother wolf before ordering her killed can easily be seen as an allegory of England trying to "tame" Ireland and trying to eradicate its culture.
One thing I noticed about this movie, when Robyn runs off from her father in wolf form, you can see the pain in his eyes. Not only from believing that he lost his daughter, but also because his daughter was a wolf, the thing he was trying to exterminate, and he wanted to and had almost killed her a number of times.
Aurora, the singer for Running with the Wolves is the voice that calls Elsa. She even made a cover of Into the Unknown. It's hard to identify but the movie is made in 2.5D animation. They've mixed 2D and 3D animation to create it.
I loved the whole movie and I love how the girls went from friends to sisters I just loved how they did the father daughter relationship and how you don't have to be blood to be family shown through the girls. I loved how the ending playing out for them they all got to be a happy wolfwalker family.

Me: the villain is always my least favorite part of the movie he’s a little boring though we like that he’s actually part of Ireland’s dark history though he’s actually my least favorite part of the movie but other then that this is fantastic Masterpiece 10/10
Since you watched Wolfwalker, you might enjoy Song of the Sea. The main character acts like a brat at the beginning but you really learn about his trauma and the sibling dynamic gets so good and becomes a great big brother.
I pass Borris-in-Ossory to get to my aunties house and that is where the legend of the Wolves of Ossory apparently came from which inspired this movie? But yes I love Cartoon Saloon so much, Secret of Kells was my childhood film and their studios in Kilkenny are amazing! I'm so glad you covered them and thst they are getting the recognition they deserve!
Watched this movie today and it’s flipping great! I love how historically accurate it is, set in the 1600s during Oliver Cromwell (the lord protector)’s conquest of Ireland. I love all of the buildings and such. I also looked into it, there were a bunch of wolves back then in Ireland, so much so that the English settlers called Ireland, ‘Wolf-Land’. Awsome movie one of my favourites ever.
Not exactly historically accurate, Ireland was in a state of war back then, while the cartoon only really mentions rebellions. Cromwell shouldn't even really be around Kilkenny for long, in May 1650 he went back to Britain to fight the Scots and Royalists.
some suggestions: - long way north (these are made by the same people who made wolfwalkers) - bread winner - secret of kells - song of the sea it would be awesome if you did these!!!
The one thing that impresses me the most about your channel is that you animated your characters mouth at the exact same time you speak even the character poses your character pulls while talking actually acts as if you in reality is doing what your animated character is doing i love it to my hearts content
Me and my dad watched the movie many months ago and when i watched the trailer for the first time i realized that the song that plays when Meb are learning Robyn how to be a wolf are the same that played in a swedish ad ( i live in Sweden ) some years ago and i found that kinda funny.
Well, me and my mom watched Wolfwalkers together last Saturday, and we both loved it, so watching it with family is definitely possible. Me and my mom both love Irish-themed movies (and we have Irish ancestors too!), so that helps.
My (and actually also others too) POV about the father/daughter relationship is that its good that Bill (the father) wants to keep Robyn save but at the same time its not. Robyn herself yelled at him that she already is in a cage when Bill tried to stop Robyn by freeing Moll (Mammy) and tell her that he is protecting her so she wont get caged. Its the overprotective parent situation where the parent thinks what he does is right while the child cant express itself more or better. The problem with their relationship is also that they tried to trust each other but the parent always tries to tell you otherwise. That overprotective behaviour and the trust issue was also meant to be seen since most people are like ''wHy DoEsNt ShE jUsT lIsTeN ?''. Well that is what wolfwalkers is trying to show you as a watcher. It even says under the titel on the poster ''Be wild, Be free'' That is why this movie is my absolute favourite. To be free and choose to do something else rather/what you want to do rather than to flow with the river and be someones pet. Im a pagan and i love this movie since its also showing a pagan side and not the typical ''gOd Is GrEaT'' stuff. That is why i loved Robyn by rebelling against what she was told to be and to do, and mostly that the ''Lord Protector'' fell. Both got their happy ending in the end and that is what i hoped for, that they learned more about one another and learned to trust each other again like Bill said to Robyn ''All is well'' and she replying ''All is well Father''
I remember when I watched it for the first time and I will tell you the animation and story is beautiful. In fact if you pay attention to the lineart and colouring of the humans and the wolfwalkers, you can see the wolfwalkers have more sketchy lineart showing that they are wild and vise versa with the humans. Honestly to those who haven't watched it, I heavily suggest you do.💝
If you liked Wolfwalker, you should watch Song of the Sea and Secrets of the Kells. Aisling is freaking adorable. Gaelic/Celtic mythology is GREAT, it is great! (Edit) Also, I think you are missing a lot of the hidden lore with the details in this movie. For starters, the unrest caused within the village wasn't because of wolves attacking but because of British occupation. The Lord Protector is more likely a figurehead of British authority - which we all know how kindly the Irish took to that... Actually, the whole reason why wolves went extinct in Ireland was directly due to British occupation influence. The Wolf was considered one of the sacred animals of Irish folklore (Hence stories like the Ossory and Faoladh. Ossory being the Mythology that Wolfwalkers is based on).
He is like the best dad In a show I had watched in a long time. I loved this movie. The music and art and storytelling was beautiful. Happy they are a happy family in the end I was surprised. It was written well :)
As a fan of history and mythology, this movie goes HARD. It draws in so many unique inspirations and blends them together in a really unique way to create it's wolfwalkers, and having it subtly touch on english colonialism and religious imperialism was one hell of a gutsy move when those wounds are still very fresh for a lot of people, but it really pays off IMO. To explain one bit of historical context you missed, the title of "Lord Protector" is essentially the king of England granting him the ability to act on his behalf, and the specific historical figure this man is based on (I forget his name) has a HORRIBLE reputation among Irish people as a cruel tyrant and conquerer. He was praying to the christian god in the scenes of the movie where he did so, but all he actually listened to was his own desires, reagardless of whether or not such a being exists in the movie's universe.
This film, Song of the Sea, and Secret of Kells are all made by this studio, and it is so cool to see various Irish folktales in this unique animation style!

Secret of Kells and Song of the sea (previous two films on Moore's Irish Mythology trilogy of films) are very similar to the critique of this. -Phenomenal artwork that's evocative and instantly identifiable with a mix of insular illumination and Gaelic-druidic styles - feels like it drags at first but it's a slow burn that's worth it with a very emotional ending
I suggest, you review the movie the Secret of the Kells. The Secret of the Kells were created by the same people who made Wolfwalkers, and it was my favorite movie as a kid even though it was actually pretty terrifying.

Me: the villain is always my least favorite part of the movie he’s a little boring though we like that he’s actually part of Ireland’s dark history though he’s actually my least favorite part of the movie but other then that this is fantastic Masterpiece 10/10
I love how you can sometimes see the guidelines in the animation
I JUST SAW THIS NOTIFCATION AND MY DAD AND I ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF WATCHING IT RIGHT NOW JDNFFNJDJDD
I love all the movies made by this studio. They're beautiful, entertaining, and all have GREAT soundtracks
same
Since you watched Wolfwalker, you might enjoy Song of the Sea. The main character acts like a brat at the beginning but you really learn about his trauma and the sibling dynamic gets so good and becomes a great big brother.
OMG I love song of the sea! She should also try Secret of the Kells too as they're all by the same studio
Cartoon Saloon movies are the most beautifully animated that I think I've ever seen. I can't wait to see what they do next
Get this girl to 100k this is quality stuff
I love the review. Sean Bean was great playing robyn's father. The story is great. The movie is amazing.
Cromwell shouldn't even really be around Kilkenny for long, in May 1650 he went back to Britain to fight the Scots and Royalists.
some suggestions:
- long way north
(these are made by the same people who made wolfwalkers)
- bread winner
- secret of kells
- song of the sea
it would be awesome if you did these!!!
I love how the art looks like a watercolors. I love Wolfwalkers so much, it's heartwarming story
When she said "Crap, I'll get kicked out one of these days for being too loud." what language was she speaking?
Tagalog
Wait which part

I'm not sure
I had this same question
The one thing that impresses me the most about your channel is that you animated your characters mouth at the exact same time you speak even the character poses your character pulls while talking actually acts as if you in reality is doing what your animated character is doing i love it to my hearts content
Wolf walkers is my favorite movie
Its so full of emotion and great quality animation
The hard work here is amazing
I watched wolfwalkers and I loved it. The way they get along like siblings is so adorable (Mebh and Robyn)
I love Wolfwalkers. It is beautiful. Like o my gosh .
I DID NOT EXPECT TO HEAR RUNNING WITH THE WOLVES BY AURORA (if you have the time you should def listen to Aurora’s music it’s amazing)
Honestly to those who haven't watched it, I heavily suggest you do.💝
Where can you watch wolfwalkers
@@speedcoinpanther2021 On Apple TV+

@@speedcoinpanther2021 Your welcome
So beautiful the girl gains a sister and a mother 😍
Your so great at reviewing these types of movies! I love the way you go at this.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you liked it!

*About this
Wolfwalker is one my favorite movies. 10/10 love it!
You should totally watch Mune: Guardian of the Moon! It’s got gorgeous animation, a fascinating world, and some pretty great characters!
Omg i thought I was the only one who saw that movie it is great!
Omg I miss that film 🥺🥺🥺
This film, Song of the Sea, and Secret of Kells are all made by this studio, and it is so cool to see various Irish folktales in this unique animation style!
Having a sister is constant fights arguing and the older one constantly beating up the younger one (me) and blaming her for everything
As an older sister, I am so sorry for the situation you're in.
I would never treat my younger siblings like that, EVER! I hope things get better for you!
@@mcthiccums1386 I think of her as two people: one, as I described above, and two, the one who gives me kisses and hugs and loves me and only appears in the morning or night. I honestly don’t know what happens
Oh so it's the same with having a brother. Noted hahaha
You get beaten up damm i thought sister loved each other😅
@@alexanderfernando2995 It's both tbh lol
I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE. It reminds me of book of kells and song of the sea. On top of the art being so great, and the characters being so likable.
This movie was so good, I especially loved the endig with them finding a place where they could be happy, by the way can you see the movie Ana and Bruno? I dont know if there is an english versión on that one, but I would like to hear your opinión on that one.
i usually rely on u to recap obscure movies, but this time i watched the movie, then your vid. life changing experience
If you liked this, you'll love "Song of the Sea" from the same studio!
And if you want another recommendation, I would highly suggest you seek out the 2008 animated film "Nocturna."
I just have to say. I love this channel! I love the reviews and your so entertaining and fun to watch! I’m also a Christian and I’m so encouraged to see you rule Christ in these situations!
This animated movie is a master piece
"I'd do that if a shitzu did that to me,"
_well guess you have a sister now cuz same_
OMG I LOVE YOUR ART STYLE!!!! your character is soo cuuteee!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 💕💕
@@RosMo4 It’s true.
I watched this movie with my class last year, it's so good! One of my favorites. Running With The Wolves (the song that plays when Robin is taught how to be a wolf) is by AURORA, who has a beautiful singing voice. She has a different version of the song as well, where the lyrics are more clear.
Wolfwalkers is an amazing movie, I completely loved it, the animation style is beautiful, I love the characters and the story is... * chef kiss * 👌👀
DEFINITELY needs more MORE recognition!
just imagine they have a crush and to be fully true to their crush they have to bite them. just like "hey can i see your arm" "uhm sure" **bites** "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
This movie has been my favourite since the first time I saw it :)
Thank you for making this video! I bet this was a lot of hard work to make. I really wanted to see this movie but I wasn’t able to and I don’t think I ever will so thank you again.
Wolfwalkers is actually my favorite movie, Song of the Sea is second, and third is The secret of kells. Robyn is my favorite name too.
I want her to watch "song of the sea" it was a film animated first before "Wolf wakers" i love these films 💕
I've watched it like 5 times and I'm still amazed of the animation and story
Me, my lil brother and my dad loved this movie and we cant stop watching it because we can relate to it and its very heartwarming
the part where she talks about how the lord protector says dear lord is actually really profound.
I watched this movie before this video and I cried A LOT. It was sad, happy, and beautiful! And I think it’s now my favorite movie.
Well, I've been considering to watch it since long ago because the art is something unique that we haven't seen for a while. (Maybe with the exception of Klaus - wanna try that one too? :3 -) Also, I love folktales of any kind from all over the world. I think your review makes worthy the try. 😊
Omo!!! I loved Klaus so much!!!!! 💕
You should watch secret of the kells and song of the sea too :3
I love this ! You are one of the only people I know who have accally watched it!
I always wish that they would make a series to this.
This sounds like an amazing movie and I will definitely have to watch it! I love how the father has unconditional love and when he gets rough with her it’s because she deserved it. The animation is perfect and I can’t wait to watch it!
Try watching song of the sea! It’s by the same studio and very amazing’
I watched yesterday with my family and i went crazy all the movie. It gaves me a fantasy/Ghibli/Little Prince/Dark fantasy vibes that i din't find a long time, oh and i loved your video you gained a new subscriber :D
being an irish person, i honestly think this is amazing.
Secret of Kells and Song of the sea (previous two films on Moore's Irish Mythology trilogy of films) are very similar to the critique of this.
-Phenomenal artwork that's evocative and instantly identifiable with a mix of insular illumination and Gaelic-druidic styles
- feels like it drags at first but it's a slow burn that's worth it with a very emotional ending
12:02 “Talks big about being a hunter but it’s all *bark”*
Don’t think I didn’t see what ya did there
I LOVE you’re intro. It sends shivers down my spine.
I suggest, you review the movie the Secret of the Kells. The Secret of the Kells were created by the same people who made Wolfwalkers, and it was my favorite movie as a kid even though it was actually pretty terrifying.
A story about a girl who discovers a new way to be herself that lets her run free and wild, only to be forced to hide that side of herself from her family for her own safety, is a very trans narrative. And I am 100% here for it. 💜
omg! 5:28 is a singer named Aurora! Ive loved her for years! So cool to be able to hear her song in a cool movie like this
