Allyn, It amazes me that you keep finding new material to share with all of Tom's fans, but greatful that you do. I grieve his passing more than I do some family members. His music speaks to my heart and resonates through my soul. Hard to accept that he's been gone 2 yrs. already. I know he's not resting up there...he has too many friends to rock the heavens with. 💘🎸
When a person can say to another person:” you have made my life richer and fuller by your talent and your gift.”....there is no greater compliment. Mr, Petty, you have made my life richer and fuller by your talent and your gift. I humbly thank you and miss you dearly.
Such an absolutely wonderful interview. It really showcases Tom's intelligence, wit, humbleness, and great sense of humor. Thank you Allyn for posting; you never disappoint. Also, thanks for your dedication to keeping Tom's memory alive. Tom is still loved and missed every day by the masses. Happy holidays to you, Allyn.
Why would you even bother to do a thumbs down to Tom Petty. I do a lot of busking and I always put in a couple of Tom Petty songs he was such a brilliant musician and person
I'm a newcomer of the Tom Petty experience. I heard some of his music in passing until I recently watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". For some reason, I found myself drawn to Tom. That's when I started down the rabbit hole. I'm happy I did. Wonderful performer and human being. ❤️
I've been a Tom Petty fan since the beginning. What I miss the most is that there isn't any new Tom Petty album's. I have devoured everything he ever released. Saw at least one show, every tour starting with The Hard Promises Tour July 1981. I miss his work. But thankfully YOU TUBE has LIVE footage, plus interviews like this one to wet the pallette. Tom was just a good dude. Genuine.
Sad though the world has lost Tom Petty, although he will live in our hearts forever. I met him 3 times, a sweet heart of a man so humble, did not have the rock star attitude .R.I.P. Tom. One of the nicest rock stars I have ever met..I miss him deeply.
I went to my very first and very last Tom Petty concert up in Seattle with my older brother 2 months before Tom passed away, it was amazing. It was a late birthday present from my parents.
An absolute amazing interview tavis. Tom Petty seemed like one of us, but cooler. He seemed like the kind of guy that would take time out of his bz schedule to talk to a fan for a few min. My xm/Sirius radio stays on his channel. You were an amazing dude Tom Petty.. we miss you down here.
He was 100 percent honest. He wasn't scared to tell the truth. And this is practically the closest you can come to a real talk with him. He honestly looked pretty intimidating but if you were to walk up to him and say hi, he'd be the sweetest soul you'd ever meet. And his smile is so contagious. This world is so lost without him, but at least hes learning to fly in heaven❤
He did always want to be a musician! He's so talented and loves it to the core 💖! You can tell how genuinely happy he is at his concerts. RIP Mr. Tom Petty, we really miss you 😘.
Good interview. Tom was truly a class act. There's a part of our souls that's never to be complete again with his passing. No way for true fans to ever feel whole when our most prolific singer/ songwriter has been taken from us. Gone but never ever forgotten. RIP TOM.
One of the most honest and outspoken musicians America has ever produced. You'll never hear ANY of his songs on a TV commerical. Tom Petty stood for something beyond monetary success. Loved the Doco and his bio book. He will be missed.
This is such an amazing interview, largely because the interviewer has so much passion for music. Would you believe, this is the first Tom Petty interview I've ever watched, despite having listened to him for 10+ years. It just confirms what I thought of Petty: he's an honest man who loves his job and expresses his life through voice. So very sad to have lost him. For him to say he's never been comfortable being a frontman, that's the secret of his relatable style, I think
Boy, do I look up to this guy!! I'm 17, working away at my first album, and I really wouldn't be here without Tom, or George Harrison, or Bob Dylan.... Miss him
Allyn Kessler don't know how to thank you for these incredible uploads. I started an article on the video for Swingin; and it evolved into something, maybe an e-book but what is clear is that this man, and his band, left an indelible mark on 3 generations of listeners. And impossible to not take him personally -- the most notable example is his biographer Warren Zanes who in Rolling Stone I think last year on the anniversary of Tom's death wrote about his fondness for truck stop coffee and his, Warren's, feeling that his writing about The Year of Heroin Addiction somehow had alienated Tom -- impossible, certainly not true -- at any rate, best wishes for the New Year and endless tx.

First. Thank you once again Allyn for all these great videos with TPATHB you are posting. Second, you come home and feel low, and then you can always put on an interview with Tom and he makes you feel good again. In this so much egocentric world, Tom is the opposite. He has such a great and big perspective on life.
I enjoy how when all the interviews he's asked if he gets tired of playing all the hits over and over again. And he commented in one that yes sometimes it was hard to pick out what not to play. But people pay their money and they have certain songs they love. And when we start to play it we pick up their energy. What's not to like. So yeah we enjoy that and we like put new stuff in also..
Tom Petty was the best!! Loved his concerts. Everyone sang the songs with the band....and there were plenty of songs. He could have played for 3 solid days and never use up all his material. He is greatly missed!

I'm in my late 60's In all the musicians that have passed in my life Tom Petty is the only one I miss. The interviewer was good, other than some comment where he brought in a reference to Beverly Hills Cop.
I will say that what connects between TP&TH and the audience loyalty is, they don't follow the crowd. They lead and everyone else follows. Certainly there are similarities with The Byrds and a little of Bob Dylan but it's the Heartbreakers behind Tom that consistently reinvent there sound and that makes it hard for the critics and record executives to pigeon hole their sound. In much the same way The Eagles created their mix of folk and rock, Tom is constantly reworking songs with the band so that no two albums sound alike. That is what the audiences get every time and it's what brings them back. Included in that assessment is the work Tom did in The Traveling Wilburys. This is also the reason why he is sorely missed and he leaves an empty space where he once occupied. He would never say he was the best but we all know he was. He was all in 110% with every song he wrote. That's why there is nobody today who comes close to the high standard he set for himself. And let's face it, is there anyone out there who can argue that Taylor Swift is worth the $350.00 price per ticket for her mostly theatrical show. She doesn't even write the songs she sings.

What really, really irks me about some bands is that they think that if a new style/form of music becomes popular, all of a sudden their music isn't going to be loved as much and it's old hat. Utter BS! We loved Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers for their style of music, and we always will, no matter what new music comes along. So, lets say some punk bands come along (like they did), does that, all of a sudden, make them irrelevant? Of course it does not! The "old school" music will be important to us until the day we die. We grew up, got married, had kids, and had a lot of fun listening to their tunes. Their songs became *OUR* songs, and these bands need to appreciate that and thank the Lord that there are 20K plus people attending their concerts (mainly) because of this point. If an old-school band we love comes out with a new album, we'll embrace it and, hopefully, enjoy the crap out of the thing. We'll, at the very least, give their new material a chance to enthrall and entertain us -- bottom line. The bands that really, really piss me off are the ones that believe that, since this new style and form of music is now at the forefront, we need to change our style to this new concept of music, mainly to remain important and heard. Yet more utter BS! Play and listen to what you love, folks, and trust me that you'll be *much* happier, in the long run, doing so. Never, ever let the music industry try to convince you that the music you grew up on is now obsolete and irrelevant.
