❤❤He's up there in the Sirius Constellation with my Dad and their dogs. Words just run out. I get highly suspiscious spellling highly suspect when the fans are .... girls. This is an extraordinary man who faced the music industry and won, faced his demons and won, he wasn't finished when he died he found his beloved Beatrice shout out to Dana if I feel angry at myself and think i'm not trying , well I don't mind saying I have a role model up there with my Dad.

@@helenamariechristina I read that he was in great pain, did not have his meds with him, and “someone,” a friend, went out and got him something. How can that be? How does that happen to Tom F’in’ Petty? I don’t want to believe it. I also have read that he died at home, peacefully, in his sleep, free of pain, something his family said. We always want to know why and how somebody died, but I am just grateful that he lived. I am blessed and thrilled by Tom’s music, the sound of his voice, singing and speaking.

@@jeffj2495 I read his biography Warren Zane. He was one of the world's great transcenders. The things he dealt with ...such an inspiration. Conflicting ideas of how he died: for his fans, the most popular. He was a man of great integrity speaking a bit about my Dad who faced danger in his life and did not back down who loved this man's music. How were you going to coach him out of his life long feeling of responsibilty which in this last part of his life was .. actually this is pointless. I know you love his music

At the time of this speech it would be just nine more short months until he was gone. He had emphysema by then and it was difficult for him to breathe so he was stooped over much of the time to make it easier for him to breathe. Added to suffering from emphysema he also had a fractured hip and knee problems that were causing him pain. He kept his optimism and he kept his grace in spite of his health problems and kept on rocking. Truly one of the greatest of rock legends.

When Jeff Lynne was inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Joe Walsh (happy mad man from the Eagles) and Tom were asked to speak, and Joe Walsh prepared a really funny speech involving the audience -- recommended watching -- and Tom, as is his wont, spoke with some idea of where he was going, but extempore, meaning he made it up as he went along mostly; the result was sincere (afterwards he was heard to say to his friend Jeff Lynne, 'you can kiss me later for this', and it was a great celebratory occasion where everyone in that circle showed up; Dhani Harrison, of course Dana Tom's wife; all of the Hollywood wives with big hats; I'm a woman but I recognize gossips when they manifest themselves, and it was a great occasion. Tom eschewed the limelight; a performer yes but never an exhibitionist so when he had something to say, people listened, and that was a good thing. For a long time he hid behind his sense of humour and various social personae, but towards the end of his life there were one or two longer in depth interviews where his great intelligence, self awareness and knowledge of the social climate were very much in evidence. In my country, Canada, CBC Q, Jian Ghomeshi just after release of Hypnotic Eye was remarkable; there are a few others. I loved the Kennedy Centre Honours celebrating Springsteen; Jon Stewart was hilarious and Sting's tribute was epoch-making. This sort of BRUUUUUUUUUUUCE adulation didn't happen to Tom, nor did he look for it, but deserved it just as much. He did it For Real.

Tom Petty was the real deal talented writer, musician, producer, who worked with so many different artists that you got to see his incredible range and singular ability to just write hit after hit. He worked with the likes of Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash, The Travelling Wilburys and so many others. He was on stage for the George Harrison tribute with George's son Dhanni and other greats including that superb Prince guitar solo for While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Tom seemed like a great guy to know and have as your friend. RIP Tom Petty- condolences to the Heartbreakers, family and friends of the band.

Of all the things we can say about him - he was BRILLIANT. When I think about his connection with music as a child, which was fueled an uncanny drive, focus, and determination to make and perform music as his work, it's a rare glimpse into the soul of a true artist. The wisdom he demonstrated in making decisions about what kind of music he would make; how and where he and the band would perform; his initiative with industry execs; and every aspect of his business - showed me that he was not only brilliant but wise. He had extremely strong ideas about how to shape the path he wanted to follow - and and did so against all odds. The loss of Tom Petty is like losing someone very close to me. I absolutely adored and loved him . . . and still do. His music will be around for a very long time. Thank you, Tom. You were a special person and now RIP. Linda

I loved your well-worthy-of-all-caps comment -- and the following came to mind when I read it. It's from when they were inducted into the hall of fame:
At a time when Rock ‘n’ Roll was split into a dozen competing camps, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers came along to put the pieces back together again. From the first note of their first record, they were both grounded in tradition, and completely fresh. It was as if they had looked at all the possibilities Rock had to offer, and built their music out of only the best parts.Over time each of the Heartbreakers emerged as a songwriter, singer, and record producer. Each had success outside of the band-yet when they came together they put all their talents behind Petty’s vision. Petty’s idea of Rock 'n' Roll was stubborn and rebellious, but full of idealism. To Petty, Rock held up the chance of living a life of community and creativity, without compromise. He never backed off that belief. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers made music like the last of the true believers. They gave back to their audience what they took from Rock ‘n’ Roll themselves: The best of everything.

Tim Doran paid 275$ for a ticket to see him at Red Rocks on my 30th Birthday. Literally the best 275$ I’ve ever spent. It was my 5th Petty Show. First was his 30th anniversary tour, last was his 40th. Under the Denver sky at the best Venue in America. It was Magical. I knew it would be the last one.

Never seen this before and am so glad I just watched it. Of course Mr Petty is having some physical issues, but he pressed on and we are all grateful. So sad that we lost him 6 months later, was just a sad day. But he made it through that last tour. We just love Tom Petty to this day.

I hope I never take wonderful human beings like him for granted.

Not sure what that little twitch was all about, but it was unnerving to see, I've never noticed it before. Considering how he passed. I'm sure someone knows much more than me about it. If so, do tell. I will certainly miss Tom and that wonderful band. Having said that, it almost seems natural that a Rebel like Tom would go out on top rather fade out. He is so loved. How lucky we are to have had him in our lives. God Bless you TP.
