as a self-taught photographer , i never use a mood board, i'm always wing it and somewhat it turning out not too bad. i did use some instagram photo as inspiration & communicate with model. perhaps i working with one model at a time so this isn't a issue for now. thank you for the idea Kayleigh ^^

Many good tips and ideas Kayleigh, thank you. Key thread is to be organized, get that mental preparation/visualization done before hand. Obviously an evolutionary process as one gets more experience. I would have liked to see an example of a call sheet, for me that would be helpful and then the challenge is to customize for one's process. Thanks so much

Thanks so much! It's definitely a learning process that comes with experience. 😊
I do have an example of how to create a call sheet here in this video, feel free to check it out! ruclips.net/video/mb3F3rmGYv4/видео.html

thanks for the video Kayleigh, I really enjoy learning from your experience, your videos are really valuable. I find it hard understanding the responsibilities in a photoshoot, for some brands I am doing everything (mood board, suggestions, organizations) but other brands organize themselves and just want you to come and do your part as a photographer. How is your experience with that, do you have clear boundaries around what tasks you will take over or do you lead as much as they let you? Much love from Germany -Mel

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying that! 😊
It really does depend on the client, usually with larger clients they may have assigned advertising/marketing agencies to do the bulk of the pre-shoot planning, which often doesn't involve me too much. Smaller brands that do in-house marketing and start-up brands often want my input. I find start-ups or new brands really need a lot more direction in that sense, (from studio recommendations to scheduling to mood boards.) So it's pretty normal to have a mix! Sometimes you have a lot of say, sometimes you don't haha.
I tend to lead as much as they let me, but as long as I'm not doing the entire shoot coordination, that would usually require an extra fee! 🙂

Thanks Kayleigh. I also use Milanote, and I also use it for call sheets. For location shoots, I also include a map reference, weather forecast, and nearby parking suggestions.
