- Listen to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square sing, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, aired on January 22, 2023.
Lyrics
1. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright
2. Drawn by Thee our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light
3. Word of God, our flesh that fashioned.
With the fire of life impassioned.
Striving still to truth unknown
Soaring, dying round Thy throne
4. Through the way where hope is guiding,
Hark, what peaceful music rings.
5. Where the flock in Thee confiding,
Drink of joy from deathless springs.
6. Theirs is beauty’s fairest pleasure,
Theirs is wisdom’s holiest treasure.
Thou dost ever lead Thine own,
In the love of joys unknown.

This is beyond human. How does the human mind even compose this beauty?
It was composed by Bach through God's inspiration
Autism and strong technical skills in composition. That isn't a knock on Bach, his mind created some of the greatest pieces of music we will ever have.
Von Johann Sebastian Bach, den größten Kirchenmusiker der Welt
Schade das "jesum bleibet meine Freude" nicht auf Deutsch, Bachs Muttersprache, gesungen wird. Trotzdem sehr schön, Danke
Bach❤
One day i will join my beautiful mother and father in heaven and sing this to God.
What a beautiful thought. Knowing that there is something so wonderful waiting for you.
I think that if more people had your vision there would be a dramatic improvement in our lives.
Yes. Me too😥🙏
Amen
Most beautiful, perfectly modulated piece of music ever composed❤
Simply beautiful, Jesus is truly our joy and the desire of our hearts.
Amen!! Hallelujah!! He is our joy
The first time I heard this hymn, I played and replayed it about 20 times. My whole being was transformed in a heavenly environment. What a great gift to humanity.
I couldn't have said it better, this composition is a gift to humanity.
A heart warming and soothing composition
I am still that way. Standing at the gates of Heaven!
I walked in the house after high school one, and this song was playing. I just stood there struck dumb with amazement, listened to the whole song, asked my Mom what is was
She said oh that's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, by Johann Sébastien Bach. That is a 70's story.
Like you, I play it over and over, I cry, I get lost in a euphoric trance.
I to am addicted to the pipe organ since I was 11 years old
I’m 76 now !
Im 15 and I love the organ
Hope you doin well sir.
Some works of music are so perfect, they occupy a space in the universe that nothing else can fill.
Bach once said that "any music who doesn't worship or honor God is just noise."Now I understand why.
I read this was composed specifically for church
The actual quote is very similar to what you said...
“The aim and final reason of all music should be none else but the glory of God and refreshing the soul. Where this is not observed there will be no music, but only a devilish hubbub.”-Johann Sebastian Bach
Thank you for giving an excellent, modern perspective.
Amen and Amen😂😂😂
Happy 338th birthday J.S. Bach!!!
I love this so much
There is no other choir that even compares!
Some of the singers in the choir have tears in there eyes because this piece of music is so emotional and beautiful.
I love this piece of song.
Regardless of whether you follow any religion or none, I think it's hard to dispute that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform truly wonderful, beautiful music.
Jesus is my Lord and Saviour. ✝️
Hard to believe mere humans can write and play something this beautiful.
Bach was an absolute genius! He's called the Father of Music for a number of reasons.
I don't believe a mere human did.
celestial in truth.
I can listen to this beautiful song a thousand times and still get tickled silly. They played this at my wedding while I walked down the aisle.
This is one enlightened choice for a bridal entrance, even if I do say so myself.
Mine, too!
Greetings from South Africa . I always come back to this heavenly work. As we celebrate the "Solemnity of Christ the King" in the Catholic calendar, the Cathedral Christ the King in Johannesburg welcomes you to this heart- throbbing, tearing music. Thanks for sharing this rendition by the spectacular Tabernacle choir accompanied by an equally amazing orchestra.❤
I am also from South Africa. God is so amazing to bless people with such talent. Blessed Advent season 🙏
Just beautiful! One of my most favourite works of music created by human hands for our Savior.
All the people working together to make beautiful music is so inspiring.
The first time i heard this marvelous music was when i played it in highschool band. I played tuba and was so taken i cried. The band director had to start over several times because we had a hard time playing it. The notes arn't hard ,the melody is so beautiful and the chords so melodious that you live the music. Mr. Bach was certainly Devinely led.
Heaven -- sounds as this.
Well done Mormon Tabernacle choir 🙏🙏🙏
This work was composed by God. He chose Bach to deliver the message.
🙌🏾🙌🏾 HALLELUJAH!
And it was a beautiful message!
So true 🕊
I love the Tabernacle Choir, I love Jesus ❤
After seeing the numbers of this choir, I thought: Imagine what it would sound like if every human being on earth sang it at once.
Jesus Christ King of Kings and Lord of all
I am not a believer.
But I still have to ask,
"What is it
about us
that such exquisite music
is created
and moves us
so deeply?"
I just have no answer.
I believe it is... God, coming through in - Music.
Absolutely beautiful!!! One of the very finest renditions of this piece I’ve ever heard!!! Thank you so much!!!
God knew me before i knew Him. When i would hear this song as a child I was automatically drawn to it and now i know why. God chose me from the beginning and I could feel Him in this song even before i knew Him.
Praise GOD!
i sung this as a child at my local church, i only found this tune today. i couldnt remember the name.
My first J. S. Bach's music, which sublime beauty l never forget.
For many years I have been humming this piece of Music as I love2sing! As a child I heard it many times on Radio 'n Tv. Recently, on BBC Arts Tv, I witnessed a Great Pianist, Myra Hess, playing, this piece of Music by Johan S. Bach. I never heard such Beauty! She, and Bach, made me Cry 💧
This song is so amazing and soothing❤
All praise the Lord with voice and instrument Amen

Not sure how a mere mortal composed such a heart expanding piece
Lovely!
Beautiful ...
People sometimes forget that certain art forms transcend time and place. Bach wrote this cantata "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" (Heart + Mouth + Deed + Life) in 1723. 300 years later this music still elevates our hearts and minds to a higher level. We are fortunate to have it. A special "Thanks" to Felix Mendelssohn. I provide the English translation (below):
Jesus, joy of man's desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright
Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light
Word of God, our flesh that fashioned
With the fire of life impassioned
Striving still to truth unknown
Soaring, dying round Thy throne Jesus, joy of man's desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright
Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light
Word of God, our flesh that fashioned
With the fire of life impassioned
Striving still to truth unknown
Soaring, dying round Thy throne
😊

Parabéns Bach pela música de inspiração Divina pra mim está é a mais bela música de todos os tempos....
I love the opening brass
Muito lindo, sempre choro ao ouvi-los
I heard this at a Mass in Holyoke MA and was transfixed with it's beauty, decades ago!
I wish to thank ( The Tabernacle Choir ) for sharing this Christian music video with me .
Wonderful! One of my favorite pieces by JS Bach. And is this a Mack Wilberg arrangement? It is a stunning version. Thank you for this. And to think that the members of the choir and orchestra are volunteers. I weep for joy knowing that they donate their amazing talents to bring joy to the world.
They say art is how you decorate space, and music is how you decorate time. This organization decorates time beautifully!
Hi, I sing with the Choir! Mack wanted an arrangement the Choir could call its own. He stayed as true as possible to Bach's original piece, while drawing on different arrangements he's heard.
can you help me with the musical score/ sheet?
My greatest desire is to someday play this piece on the organ. I really love the brass intro. Well done.
Why not try. Plenty of arrangements out there, St Ceceila for one.
Das bekommst du hin, das ist nicht so schwer. Ich spiele das des öfteren auf der Orgel
All great artists actually channel inspiration from above according to the talents they worked to develop in this life. Some do it very early and effortlessly. And the really great ones like Bach recognize they are just well tuned instruments in the hands of a prodigious Maker
Thank you ❤
I think those are different words than what we sang when I was in a choir.
It reminds me my father's,funeral
sorry for your loss
What a blessing!
Yesu ndio ufufuo na uzima
Thank you for this lovely music to comfort and lift my soul to my Father in the dark. I've loved you since a child
Ausgezeichnet! Vielen Dank! SDG
