I usually pick Alyssa as my favorite to win the games because she can came up with such creative and elaborate plans to put her in the best possible spot to win. This time it didn't worked out, but the execution and the timing of this one was the best!
Who could have guessed that Duke Nuke-Ken would attempt to stab Edward in the back. Such a great game; thanks for streaming it. Totally love the 1710 scenario, and looking forward to the longer ones with firms! If I have to choose between Oath and JoCo2e, I think I want to see more Oath. I hope you'll find a way to play both regularly
Thanks for mentioning Oath and your reaction. Of Cole's designs, I've had Pax Pamir 2nd Ed., Oath, and am eagerly anticipating John Company's arrival. I felt very comfortable quickly with Pamir and now JC, but I bounced off of Oath *hard*. 😵💫 Oath is a beautiful game, but I don't know why it's so much easier for me to grok these two over it. 🤔
Can't believe I only found out about this game long after the kickstarter... Don't think I'll be able to get this any time soon, big sad. Loved the video, watched it twice now! Thank you
Such a solid playthrough. Enjoyed the whole thing! I'd ask for more John Company content if I get any sort of say in this! I haven't watched the Oath videos yet, but I really like what I see in this game and I'd love for some firms to make an appearance at some point down the line. Anyways, thanks again!
Watched this and the sponsored stream once I saw the fulfillment container hit the west coast, these have been supremely wonderful for amping up my hype for this game. Great stuff!
+1 wish for a playthrough with Deregulation. The firms game is so fascinating, but so opaque to new players, and it would be a joy to see it in action.
@@espardofildon2966 The card also allows others to use it's power if the owner of the card is okay with it. Because of the second text, Edward was able to place his pieces for 1 share each rather than 5 and 4
I noticed a misstatement early in the video (I don't know if it got corrected later in the video, haven't finished it yet). The Company does not fail when the debt pawn gets to the rightmost space and the Company needs to take on more debt. The ONLY way the Company can fail is if the Company Standing pawn goes to the leftmost space on its track.
A couple of times it sounded as if you were relying on 'cashing in' the nepotism cards as the only way to allow nepotism. (I may have misunderstood though.) For example, say that Edward is making the appointment and there are two candidates, Edward and Shrey - so Edward assumes he *has* to appoint Shrey because he doesn't have Shrey's 'allow nepotism' card. But I thought it was within the rules for Shrey to say "I don't want that office, go ahead and appoint yourself if you want."
It is within the rules for shrey to allow nepotism not because of card. At that time Edward can even try and convince (maybe with a few extra pounds) shrey to allow nepotism to allow Edward to promote himself. I noticed that in the first video too I’m glad someone said something.
Nepotism can be negotiated at any time, without the promise card. However they were speaking in shorthand that they weren't giving consent without something for it.
At 2:15:00 or so they voted on a law with a power policy, but moved them laterally. This is not allowed, the target must Increase in power, so shares should have swapped with Shipping. You may only swap others if the item on top is what needed to gain power. Edit: This was clarified later During round 5 Family, the retirements were not performed strictly correctly. A spouse can only be used once per round for the discount. Additionally, it reduces the amount spent for purposes of the Prestige pick, so Edward actually spent 2 and Alyssa spent 0. Her play of the blackmail card was correct, but she still spent zero. Final edit: I laughed very hard at several times... the big social plays and the banter at the end, great stuff :)
In round 4 you seem to have played the rebellion incorrectly (which probably means that Alyssa won 🌝). Bengal should have successfully rebelled because it had an unrest cube, and there were no armies left to defend. “Whenever attacked by any type of Crisis, the Company must resolve the Crisis (called the primary Crisis) and then must resolve an additional Rebellion Crisis in each other region with unrest cubes.”
I think there is a massive issue with how they misunderstand probabilities. A change from 80% to 87% success is NOT an additional 7%. You're going from a 20% probability to FAIL to a 13% probability to FAIL. This is a 35% decrease of failure rates. The manuals are printed in a bit a misleading way, it helps looking at the combined failure/catastrophic failure hints instead!
Great game! You guys were doing the rules for the parliament's Power Policies incorrectly, though. The PM must increase the power of the indicated type, they cannot just choose to swap it laterally or move it down. The only time the PM gets any choice is if the indicated type is already at the peak of the Power structure; then and only then may the PM swap any two other tile types, including moving them laterally.
Great stream! Keep playing both games, both expiriences are so different and so fun. How was this game at 3 players? Cole says he likes the way it plays at 3
Great play-through. Not to nitpick, but sometimes I wish the camera could zoom in closer to areas of the board that are in play at that time. I’m sure this is easier said than done when Edward is also playing and commentating at the same time. With games as intricate as this one I think it would help put into context what is going on at that moment. Possible hot keys set up to change focus to that area while playing? Either way still a great presentation and as I’ve said before one of the only channels I’ve found that use a real board and not TTS. I love your other Oath gameplays and would like to see more. Either game is great to watch you all play but Oath has more of an open storytelling ability to it. All around still great though.
I really wish they'd do an app for this because the chances of me both acquiring it and convincing my group to play it enough we get good enough at it to have fun are effectively zero.
I'm pretty sure Edward missed one pound from being governor general and one pound from the last trade action, so he should have ended with 4 more points
Speaking for myself and my play group, Oath didn't really land for us, but we had a great time with John Company. I feel John Company is a better followon to Pax Pamir (which I also have, and very much enjoy).
I think they should play more aggressively and not be afraid to borrow money. Especially if you have royal proection, who cares about debt? After all, that is how those companies got so big. Shrey should have paid out 3 pounds of dividends per share, gaining him 9, and then buying a 3 pound share (with the stock broker card even cheaper). This would have forced the others to accept more loans but also to buy into shares with the large amount of money they had, which would have paid for a lot of the debt. At the same time Shrey would have net profited 6 pounds. Even if the others would not have bought shares, he would have owned a lot more of the company for free. I have seen this misplay by Shrey before: he rarely uses the power he has. He rarely uses the votes he has by selling them to the highest bidder.
As for _Oath_ or _John Company_ , I just don't know. I like y'all's plays of _Oath_ , but somehow I feel like the negotiation and politics in _John Company_ are better.
Great video and example of a rolling teach. The things you called "quid" are "pounds". I wish there was some other way that the game made it more clear that what you're really doing in India. I'd like it to be a little more uncomfortable, or at least harder to gloss over.
I can tell HC never watched the Hornblower TV serie swith Ioan Gruffudd. You proncounce it in-de-FAT-igable, basically run together with the emphasis in the right place. Or you could get away with just calling her the "Indie". The actual historical vessel wasn't built until 1784 and featured in the Napeoleonic Wars. A semi historical fictionalised account is featured in the Hornblower series of novels by CS Forester. I assume the anachronism is because Cole just wanted to feature cool British frigate names from history. I won't object.
You asked whether to continue streaming Joco or Oath or none or both. You asked the question in a Joco vid so obviously the replies here will slant Joco. I will say that I like Joco ..but I could take it or leave it. I would be crushed if you stopped Oath. You guys have some of the best Oath videos, easily. Oath is one of my top 3 games maybe top. Oath is a polarizing but has a number of players that claim it as there top or close to top that passes most popular games. Oath punches way above its weight. I would suggest maybe replacing Shrey, I mean no offense. I don’t think the game has clicked for him and it visibly drags everyone else down. Love Shrey just Oath aint his thing Also Cole recently announced they will soon start development of an expansion for Oath … so theres that.
Play 1758 next. Firms is where this game really shines. Not interested in Oath at all. Wouldn't Tenure limits allow Shrey to put out a 4th writer? Or is 3 the max? Doesn't a leader rebellion card force a rebellion in all regions where there is unrest? Ken needs to read the rules again lol
Oof, even from the beginning. The first 46 minutes of the stream, there’s no trading. Shrey put a ton of money in Madras, where Ken has the presidency, the army and a writer without extracting anything from Ken. At minute 47, the first time Ken has any power to extract something (from Edward), he does so.
Awesome. Backstabbing by Ken … bye Ken 🥸 Thanks for showing the potential of this game. Looking forward to get my copy soon(ish). @Cole: Please do Infamous Traffic next, so we could open China in JC and play IT back to back 😵💫
Great with another playthrough of this - Love that we got a real round-table on such an important game, and not just a sponsored playthrogh. So cool!
Here for any and all Wehrly content this group puts out. Be it Oath or Joco. Both are a blast!
I usually pick Alyssa as my favorite to win the games because she can came up with such creative and elaborate plans to put her in the best possible spot to win. This time it didn't worked out, but the execution and the timing of this one was the best!
Can you walk me through why she decided to pass and not gain coins during that move?
Love the John Company content!!
This is the best configuration of players on this channel. Love that you're playing another Wehrle game. Your playing style totally fits his games!
Excellent stream! Would love to see more John Company. Stoked to check out a play with deregulation when y'all get around to it.
Same hopefully with firms so I can see what it's like
Really enjoyed the roundtable…this crew is amazing

I love this game. Its so interestingly convoluted. I want to see more of this over Oath. Love Oath too though.
Thank y'all for this stream. It's been both informative and entertaining .
Can't believe I only found out about this game long after the kickstarter... Don't think I'll be able to get this any time soon, big sad.
Loved the video, watched it twice now! Thank you
Personally I love the round cards! ;) Great round table, this is such a fun game. Have only played it once but would love to play many more times.
OMG, this game is really really a piece of art, the way it makrs you feel, is amazing!
John Company is a game I love to watch, but I think I'd struggle to enjoy playing. Keep it coming!

What a final play by Ken, loved it! GtRs all round, hahaha
Also, John Company over Oath for sure.
More of Oath and John Company!
Yes, another round of this game was all I needed for this weekend and maybe this time the company doesn't tank.
Ken’s on the naughty step! More John Company please
Can't wait to watch later!!
Question - for example time 3:44:30. When you Seek Share, you pay only 1 for every share, but you must pay printed cost (2-5)...or I am seeing wrong?
It's because Shrey has the Stock Broker prestige card that he can let others use with his permission to reduce the cost of a share to 1 pound.
@@BoardZGamer - Yes, Shrey can, but Seek share tokens were yellow (Edward)
