  • Charlotte explains how and why she got into ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and then looks at all the technical factors of the craft including the camera settings and the direction and speed of the movement as well as aspects such as composition and contrast.
    About Charlotte
Charlotte Bellamy’s creative style of photography is inspired by the environment in which she lives. Her early photographic career over 10 years ago, tended towards portraits and weddings. However, a move to the Netherlands triggered her interest in landscapes. After five years following a traditional landscape photography path, she felt a need to express her feelings about the locations she was photographing.
Charlotte is a panel member and judge with The Guild of Photographers in the UK. Her images have won her numerous awards including ‘all-round photographer of the year’ two years running with The Guild. Her work has been published in the ‘Creative light’ and ‘On Landscape’ online magazines and in ‘Camera craft’ magazine in the UK. She has exhibited in the ‘Connected’ exhibition in the UK in April 2019. She hosted her first exhibition of her work ‘Netherlands through new eyes’ in 2014, and she is a regular exhibitor at the Doesburg Culturele Zondag.

ICM is just a new term of Dragging the shutter and having a subject move or you move the camera to create motion.
You are using the shutter as a creative tool.
You also have Pop and blur technique where you add a flash to freeze the subject with blurry motion with a slow shutter speed to record the ambient (constant light: sun, LED).
You can use ICM to draw with light, like using the lights on a Christmas Tree and moving the camera in micro shape movement like creating a bow shape using movement.
No matter what you call it it's a fun and great technique to try.
    Thanks

With respect to achieving longer shutter speeds I shoo OM 1 Mark 11 camera and it has a feature which is called ND filters and does not require glass filters and achieves longer shutter speeds. That’s what I use in difficult conditions

This was a really interesting presentation that would have been so much better with decent audio. While not all or even most of your subjects will have a dedicated audio recorder, they will almost certainly have a smartphone with an audio recording app. It would be easy to record a separate audio track with this app and use your Zoom audio as a scratch track to sync the superior smartphone recording to it. This won’t benefit your live audience but the vast majority of viewers appear to be watching after the fact on RUclips. They would benefit greatly. Just a thought.

Why ICM photographs look similar? I can't distinguish between different photographers.

Could I respectfully suggest you make use of a proper microphone and slow down your speech when doing these wonderful videos. I am very interested I what you are teaching but frustrated trying to hear and understand, even with closed captains turned on. Great video otherwise.
