Something about the part B-6 isn't designed right. You can't press it in place with smashing down on the gear that the string winds up on. Puts way too much tension on the whole gearing system and there is no way the clock will work. This thing looks really cool but a complete bummer to get near the end of assembly and come up with a whole bunch of useless parts.
I recently built this with my 6 year old. We had the same issue with the same part. If you work with it it will click into place. We were able to get the whole thing functioning.
I put a lot of quarters in mine and it still doesn't turn on its own, I need to put a ridiculous amount of weight (such as a full soda can) to get it to work, but then its extremely fast. Any tips?
Hey, it’s been a year since you’ve asked this question but I had the same problem and figured it out. The gear part where the string wines up, was too tight. I pulled the parts to loosen things up and it started working. Try loosening that area and it should help. I must’ve pressed everything together to hard and created a lot of friction. Hope this makes sense.
the instructions for the pendulum string are nothing like what youve done. and the pendulum doesnt swing. i give this a 5 out of ten. i also thought it was wood.
It's not a real clock, only a toy to demonstrate the mechanism. If you want a nice clock, check out my "Tranquility Clock" video. That one actually keeps time.
I bought it on amazon before I saw this video and let me tell you that today is someone’s birthday and I am giving it to them. I looked at the package and thought it was wood and would stand up to be taller than 10” so we’ll see how that goes in like 30 minutes
That's an option in the kit. You can put the final gears in two different ways. It could never run long enough to be a clock, so I chose the most interesting way to watch. Check my channel if you want to see a real wooden gears clock I built. That one runs for about 26 hours before winding and keeps good time.
@@MrGoldarr this is a cheeseball plastic cheapo model. It's really not intended to be anything more than a demonstration of the escapement. I think it succeeds at that, which is good enough for the age group targeted.
@@Ramblequist There's an older video on my channel which shows my clock that I actually use in the house. It has kept good time for years, but recently a bearing failed and it will need to be fixed. It can be fixed though, I'm sure it will be fine. Just look in my old videos, you'll find it.

Nice kit, it reminds me of the time when I did Strandbeest kit few years back, I really enjoyed building it
It doesn't work unless you put about 15 to 25 lbs of pressure on the weight. All I got was frustrated. My son and I were happy to trash it.
Same! My grandson and I had no luck either. So disappointing.
Glad it wasn't only me. "Chinese" or whatever, the guy says.

The Academy Plastic Model is a Korean company, and the warning is also written in Korean. It's not Chinese.

Yes, I can't get it to work, and I think that you have the weights and string in a different configuration than is in the directions.
Check if you did it right have a couple pennys and few dimes for mine and its working
Know its 6months later but still lol

I don't think it is sold to be a working clock but just as a funny puzzle to put on a desk.

I'm looking to get a windup clock good to know this davinci clock is a no go

It is a good kit for somebody who has never made a clock before!
you have some gears messed up. hour hand doesn't move that fast on mine. mine is almost timed correctly to use as a real clock

Let me add my two cents worth. That clock can run precisely, but it’s going to take a lot of time to calibrate it with the weights.

@@jasmine2501 Thanks, where can I get a clock kit like that , runs for a day.

If only it actually worked. Don't buy this if you expect it to work right.
Has anyone told him yet
I hope you used 40 percent off coupon
Always! Never go there without it!
If you want metal pieces then you will have to forge them yourself.
