    Watching this, I cannot imagine how that generation of WI players must feel when they watch their current team. If you were to tell any boy or teenaged cricketer that WI were once the terror of the world, they would think you were joking, and you would lose face with them. Oh, my Garner and my Holding long ago, so long ago.

    No wonder he had such an incredible average. Love his action. Didn't realise he had every delivery in the book, thought there was just a huge height factor that got him his wickets from him bowling back of a length but he was extremely accurate. (I'm only 20 lol this wasn't my era). Thanks alot for this upload man. As a young West Indian I'm not used to seeing a West Indian quickie being feared...sad. Cheers.

      You missed Colin Croft. Marshall’s rise was much later in 1982/83. Croft was the original 4.

    • @kunalsingh3121
      @kunalsingh3121 Год назад

      @@sammywhammy007 Indeed Marshall was very late in the pecking order (scary ?) well uptill 1981..It was when Collin left for the controversial rebel tour to RSA and Marshall got a shot against India in Windies (late 82/early 83)..when Marshall truly come of age...Still he wasnt getting the new ball and only over the course of 12 months he was leading the Windies attack as the hitman Andy Roberts passed the baton to him
      Croft was brilliant bowler anyway..

    • @sammywhammy007
      @sammywhammy007 Год назад

      @@kunalsingh3121 Maco made his debut against India in India at Bangalore when he was part of the B squad that toured India under Alvin Kallicharan because the A team under Lloyd was playing WSC in Australia.
      Marshall was unimpressive during the 78 debut tour mainly because the pitches were either flat or aided spin ( India had the spin trio back then).
      Marshall was an entirely different guy when they came back under Lloyd in 1983 and he terrorized the Indian batsmen. The first test at Kanpur, Marshall was unplayable and along with Holding, they wrecked India. That was the start of Maco who would go p on n to be the best pace bowler of the 80s decade.

    Joel Garner presented a bat to my cousin at the SCG, 1979, Australia vs World XI Supertest. It was a muggy day and Joel, standing there awesomely tall with Larry Gomes, wipes his brow and sez: Ooh, it's bloody hot. Us kids spent the rest of the summer repeating that endlessly.

    • @sammywhammy007

      Having seen him play all his career, he is the most difficult bowler to play for any batsman I’ve seen in my lifetime. Ambrose is a close second. Marshall was incisive and more successful but when it came to unplayable, Garner reigned supreme.
      Garner is still rated the top ODI bowler and one of the very few bowlers with a sub 21 strike rate in tests.

    Great upload! Saw this video only today because I had enough time to go through it in one sitting. Great bowler big bird even though he never made a statistical match impression as much as Marshall, Holding et. al. I can see why batsmen had such difficulty facing him. The man practically gave none of those standard pressure-relief balls to drive or flick that batsmen crave so much. Sreesanth, Johnson, Sharma, Siddle, Edwards and others need to sit down with a pen and paper and watch this video.

From what you have seen did bowlers like Wasim and Waqar really get their hurt their stats due to bad fielding and dropped catches or is it just excuses made up by Pakistini fanboys to justify rating them above other great bowler like McGrath, Ambrose etc who have better stats. Your the only one I know that has clips from that long ago so I'm asking you.
