- What a simply stunning innings from the great Brian Lara. Incredible display, when on song he was breathtaking, not robotic like 'some' players when they score runs, Lara was all flair and entertainment.

What an absolute God gifted genius. The greatest of his generation by far.
Nobody can match Lara’s impeccable talents
There was this quote in a newspaper "When on song, Lara can make world class bowlers look like a bunch of school kids"

Lara Gayle sarwab on same list 😂😂😅😅

Greatest Modern Era Batsman . Lara has the most famous Innings in Cricket than anybody else .
Genius Lara century under pressure unbelievable excellent shots temperament situation analysis outstanding stuff
He was just enjoying him self like a kid. He loved hitting boundaries. like a master pianist enjoys the sound produced by his finger strokes.
When LARA is at his BEST cricket does NOT get better❤️
Lara an elegant , explosive and energetic .
best bat of the era..when it comes to pure stroke play lara is better than them all
Chanderpaul is probably the most underrated legend ever nearly no one talks about and then you suddenly see he has nearly 12000 test runs and also over 20k international players the most underrated legend ever according to me
Agreed. He played in the shadows of Lara much like Dravid for India when Tendulkar was playing so well.
Younis Khan too

@@avishek438 he has a strike rate of 43.5 which is pretty good in test cricket he was rock solid in test it's not about playing fast but staying at the wicket for longer time dravid also has same strike rate will you call him also pathetic don't know from where the strike rate came in your mind
1 of the greatest innings under pressure by lara in test cricket history!!
Back to back 196, in T&T out of 347, and now 176 to follow up. 33:07 - 33:16! The man that fights fire 🔥 with fire 🔥 blazing fire!! The complete package of entertainment and the blockbuster of cricket!
He is an artist
his technique would change every ball, the backlift, the footwork, the trigger movement. ludicrous talent and flair, absolutely crazy to have such a pliable yet effective technique

This has been the story of West Indies. Wickets falling at other end and Brian Charles Lara holding other end.
Indeed. I was an avid cricket fan in those days and there were too many times Lara had to come in when the West Indies was little bit of runs for 1 or 2. He was not an opener but he might as well had been in this woeful team.

THE ONLY PLAYER WITH AN APPETITE FOR BIG RUNS!!
OK this is insane batting. Three of the many moments of genius - 85 + mph, fullish deliveries, and he goes on the back foot to them and plays them straight down the ground! To anybody who has played decent standard cricket, that just about defies all physical laws of the universe. It is a cliche, but Brian Lara was a one-off.
Yea , how did he do that ?
Not really...I played FC cricket, and the key to anything at that pace is balance. If your head stays into the ball, you can hit any pace bowler of the back foot when full. Sobers, Richards, Fredricks, King were some exponents from the Windies who managed it.
Lara, of course, was a world class performer but, technically, it is doable.
@@johncoffey724 : Yup, the West Indies greats were known for this style of driving. Loved to imitate them in the backyard - it would come off every once in a while. Sometimes the ball would be too full and I'd york myself, or it would swing or move after pitching and then the shot would be screwed.

Lara, an eccentric batting king. He never seemed to be serious about his career and statistics. Unlike other great batsmen, he always wanted to rule the field, delighting the audience but never compromising to maintain his reign.
I truly miss Lara playing. He was truly special, so flamboyant, so much flair in his craft. Lara could summon all of his genius when most needed unlike others who feast on the lower test nations. Much like Michael Jordan in the finals or Ayrton Senna in a deciding race. The man was just spectacular to watch and one of the brightest lights of all sports retired just a year after this innings.

Lara again standing up when needed. Everytime you watch him you have to think, "how."
Imagine Lara playing 20/20 and playing normal cricket shots 🤔🤔 he’ll just pick the gaps
I'd like to give you all a quote from Matthew Hayden's autobiography: "Brian Lara was a chameleon of the crease. If you stacked the off-side field, he'd toy with you on the on side. If you switched plans, he would switch too, always staying one step ahead of you. Plenty of batsmen have a great technique, but very few have several great techniques - Lara did."

A snippet of my enjoyable youth, growing up in Jamaica. Thank you B.C. Lara; from the 277 at the SCG, 1993 to the 18 at Bridgetown 2007 - I was thoroughly entertained!
176 out of 286!!! WI were all out for 296. Lara scored 176 in 224 balls, the rest scored 110 in 365 balls, there were 10 extras.

Together with Mohammad Azharuddin very elegant and stylish.
Love his Stance & style of play!!!
I have watched Brian Lara bat throughout his career, he was a treat to watch... A fair comparison ,in my opinion, is other "compact batsmen" batting style or stroke making is akin to the plain text font (crisp and beautiful) and that of Lara is cursive fonts (very alluring). The extra just adds to the aesthetic appeal rather than diminishing it. Thats one of the reasons cricket connoisseurs love watching Lara bat and never seize to get enough of it... This man should have played in the 80's.. Him and Viv together.. We could have seen bowlers shell bricks.. Really..
Probably wouldn't have been picked in pre helmet era. He was too poor against short pitched bowling directed at his body. But in helmet era, yes.
@@firstal3799 Did your Sachin played bouncers without helmet??? Sometimes I wonder...!!!
@@TheTredoc no but I never saw Sachin getting hit by a bouncer. He was also rarely struck in the body with short pitched stuff. Have you ever seen Tendulkar getting struck in the head?
@@firstal3799 You need to pay more close attention to your statement and take the word "never" out or else, you will be lying! Never say never...have you ever seen Viv Richards get hit before (yet he was considered arrogant in his batting style, fearless)??? Before you answer, check your facts-finding! Don't worry about B.C. Lara getting hit because he also hit 500, 400, 375, 277, 213, 153, 688 (aggregate against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka) 28 runs per over! He is the man of fire that fights fire 🔥 with fire 🔥 blazing fire 🔥! Two observations you should look at before you leap into speaking without facts: 1. If you play with fire 🔥 you will get burn! 2). There is at no time in the most ELITE black-belt martial arts specialists that one have not been hit (boxing match is a bruising sport, if you hit you get hit also)! If you play sword fight you will eventually get cut and bruise! Cricket is a contact sport with bat and ball, players and players, bat to body, ball to body, ball being hit back at partner end hitting one's partner, even umpires and even spectators! When you carry the Excalibur flair of batsmanship on display you will get hit but the mark B.C. Lara's Excalibur flair of batsmanship on display at the echelon of batsmanship on display left on the game is more than what was dished out to him in hits! And that's the facts the world-record twice and match-winning innings!
@@TheTredoc Hey man why you keep repeating the same things over and over again. I am a pretty knowledgeable cricket fan and I appreciate Brian Charles Lara. But I am not a fanatic Lara admirer like you. Btw if Lara scored such high scores in many innings and series, does it not mean that he was inconsistent? Also wasn’t the 375 criticized because it robbed WI a fair go at wining the match?
I remember this very well even though I was a kid back then. We even had a small chapter in my English text book on Lar’s 375. We always appreciate great players of any country…
Viv was hit around the face area a few times. There is an incident where the ball hit his cap and it fell off, though it didn’t hurt him. But in my books Viv has been the best hooker/puller in the game ever. Lara was also a superb puller and hooker but he also got himself tangled up with short pitched stuff multiple times. He was sometimes uncomfortable against very fast rising deliveries, directed right towards his head. So both went hand in hand. Tendulkar was also a super puller/hooker. In my books there his no difference in ability of both but both were topped by Viv in this area. And Tendulkar was a great puller and took on short balls customarily till 90’s. Then he started playing the shot less and less as the years went by. But even when he was a regular player of the shot, I didn’t see him once get hit or get into an awkward position with short pitched stuff. He just had a naturally gifted eye and out of the world body balance, that allowed him to do that.
Brian Lara is the greatest batsman all time
Genius at work, this is one of the so many gems he had produced while at the office. A match winner amongst the other 10 ordinary fellas that played with him & a nightmare for the 11 who played against him.
