This album was a complete last-minute disruption to my AOTY list. I figured after October 22nd we'd heard all of the hard hitters for 2021, so I did not expect Resolve (a band I'd only heard a few stream tracks from) to come out of nowhere and become my #3 favourite album I've heard this year. This is one of the strongest debut albums I've heard in a long time from the songwriting, vocal performance, drumwork, mixing & production, variety of sound, album pacing etc. It's not the perfect album of course, but the title track followed by Forever Yours is the best end to a release I've heard all year. The sheer number of single-worthy songs on the tracklist is astounding, and really the only song I'd consider weak is With Love (I just found it a bit out of place). Arising Empire really pushed these guys hard with all of the music videos and one take performance - they must know the pure gold they've got here. It's really great to see this band seemingly come out of nowhere onto people's radar. France has been absolutely killing it this year. As for this song, it's my favourite on the album, and probably a top 5 TOTY. It just builds and releases so perfectly - there's literally nothing I would change about the song. It flows perfectly between sections where you get something new and exciting each time, even on repeats. The tappy guitar and tom groove at 1:42 builds into the chorus so well, and I absolutely did not expect that electronic element that they went for in the first chorus. The vocal layering is absolutely gorgeous all across this song, but trading between the screamed main line and soft secondary vocal line is just so cool. Hearing the piano at 2:40 was what sold me on this song the first time I heard it - I hadn't picked up that it appeared in the first verse so I was really surprised to hear it get a central focus. The transition into the yells at 3:07 is so well done. I love the drumwork in this section, especially the fill at 3:24. They are so good at trading focus between the members without it feeling like a dick swinging contest. The way the bridge builds tension with that chord progression and strings before silence is just so expertly done. I absolutely love the short breath at 4:35 that happens just before the hit - it's so subtle. And finally the way they add energy to the final chorus with screamed layers over the secondary line and changing up the drum groove is so great. Alright I'm done gushing about the song - there's so much for me to talk about 😂 The video is also gorgeous; the colour palette shift at 2:10, the ghost piano at 2:40, the shadow singing call and response at 3:35 - I've been really impressed with all of Resolve's videography. I usually don't care about this sort of stuff, so if I notice they must be doing something right. In summary; Forever Yours yes, Between Me and the Machine yes, Resolve yes 👍
You should listen to their older stuff as well. Especially the previous EP Pendulum. It's thunderous, start to finish. 🔥 If you saw their Livestream with Landmvrks, you can ignore this comment. 😁

Listened to the album a couple of weeks ago after hearing all the positive opinions in the discord server. Definitely an impressive album and does potentially make it into my top 10 AOTY. Need a few more listens of a lot of albums to properly place this. Really great track though and was a really good choice for the album closer. Look forward to hearing your AOTY list!
