- Disney is at it again, killing physical media. We knew this 20th Century Fox acquisition was going to be bad, but wow, this is NOT good news for 4K Blu-ray collectors...

I want to *own* my movies.
I want instant and guaranteed access to them.
I want to enjoy them in the best possible quality - because that's what a true cineast does.
So I want *physical media* .
Disney isn't getting any of my money from now on.
So, you should be able to tell us what colour settings you use to watch your movie owns.
I don’t think you’re in control of the colours of your TV.
Disney isn't going to stop releasing physical media. They just aren't releasing older stuff on 4K anymore.
If it wasn't for Star Wars and Marvel I wouldn't even care. Disney is the laziest studio when it comes to 4k physical media releases. Low audio, never includes Dolby vision, hit or miss 4k quality.
every Marvel and Star Wars backlog release already has 4K releases though I believe... new films will still get physical
The just look at the new Starwars, cost millions and you have a terrible writing. Their just out for the money giving its audience terrible products.
speaking of Star Wars, just look how they destroyed that franchise. Once the repetitive Marvel movies fizzle out, Karma is gonna slap them.
Yes I mean there's some of us out there that can't afford the monthly fee for Disney+. As far as I've heard there's no immediate plans for releasing Clone Wars Season 7 onto Blu-ray much less 4K which is sad and infuriating that they choose to ignore a good part of what keeps them afloat.
@@legendofhayden arent the star wars HDR of the older titles bad or was that just on disney plus?
I've been a movie collector for 25 years, since I was 13. I prefer owning a movie over streaming because you get higher quality picture and audio, you can hold the movie in your hands and look at the cover and I like the feeling of physically putting a movie in a player. This is very disappointing news.
Agreed. I started collecting in high school (around 1997). I transitioned from VHS to DVD in 2001. By 2003, I had a modest catalog of 30 DVDs. By 2012, I had replaced most of my DVDs with Blu-Ray and then jumped into 4K by 2017. Between the 5 or so remaining DVDs, plus my blu-ray and 4K collection, I’m about at 400. I prefer physical media. Like the previous posted stated “...they can’t take it away, change it or alter it.”
@@scotttild I have heard of digital purchases just vanishing with no recourse. If you want to own it , there is only one way, physical media!
Not only the things you mentioned but if you're big fan of a particular film or TV series and interested in the behind the scenes/historical aspects of cinema/TV you get all the great special features and in some cases booklets, particularly from the boutique labels like Criterion, Arrow, Eureka, Indicator etc... You can't beat those! Streaming has it's place for sure but it's not even close to being a replacement for physical media. Supplementary, yes. Replacement? No f**king way!
@@scotttild Exactly, with streaming, the studios have control over the movies, not you. And with the exceptions of Amazon, Vudu, etc., most everything else is subscription-based, so you keep paying and paying, even if there's a pretty finite set of movies/TV shows you like.
@@markmitchell5220 Digital PURCHASES, not just what's on subscriptions? That's crap, and should be illegal, if you already paid for the movie. That's it, I'm going to look for laserdiscs of a couple of movies that were never released to DVD.
Disney is such a terrible studio, fox was probably the best sadly
Fox did a shit ton of shady shit too, though. I would say that old Disney like early 2000’s and before, especially while Walt was behind the wheel, was the best. Without Walt, movies and especially animation probably wouldn’t even exist.
@@DarkKnight-q2d totally agree!
@@DarkKnight-q2d old Disney was amazing
Old classic Disney was the best and now it is all about the Bucks and Shareholders and Shareholders 😤
Ewww no - the old Fox was, the one owned by Murdoch is practically evil incorporated, just take a look at Fox News if you need any convincing what kind of monster is in charge of that outfit.
I wouldn’t care if this didn’t affect the fox stuff. No fight club, for me really sucks. I’d love to own that in 4K.
The BatSchmidt and apes?!?
Fuck I didn’t think about that. 🤦♂️
I was coming here to post this. For any fellow Fincher fanboys, this means no Fight Club or Gone Girl. Alien 3 is also Fox, but we don't speak of that movie.
Sean Thompson I was just mentioning one movie because if I mentioned every single fox movie that deserves a 4K release my internet would probably crash lol
I'm abandoning Disney. I'm not buying movies through their digital streaming service. I'm a fan of quality, Disney and quality are not synonymous. I'm here for quality and collecting media at home. This is what I love.
Yeah but physical media will eventually die off, as quality of digital streams get better
@@justinbyrne5736 I still think that there will always be a love to own something physically.
@@hdmoviesource yeah just as long as manufacturers continue to make physical media, just have to see years to come whether it will change

Cancel your Disney + subscription. That's the only way it's going to hurt them a bit.

Absolutely! And they sold out of 8,000 copies of that Classics set in a month! Huge support for them
They have amazing 4k stuff

Huh what a surprise. I really hate Disney.
@@scotttild Glad to hear it.
If there’s two things Disney never does, is change it’s mind and do something for the benefit of the fans

I haven’t got Disney+ and won’t be getting it.
Yeah sure you wont be cancellin jack. Why did you sign up in the first place if you like discs little late to take a stand now also they already got your money so you double L for you
I hate disney for doing this. Remember how good it was to receive films as birthday or Christmas presents (I still do). What do we give people without physical media. Subscription vouchers? How exciting.
Disney are pulling out of just the 4k market not the entire physical media market. They still release other forms of media.
@@JackRipper8881 I know, I was making a blanket statement about physical media. If Disney stop supporting it then other companies could follow.
I say block anything with disney's name on it. No theater to see a new movie, no subscription, no nothing.
This just sucks. No 4K of classics like; The Planet Of The Apes etc...
La-La Land Records licenced Planet of the Apes for a 5-CD box set soundtrack collection release. Maybe what's been happening in the soundtrack world can be the model for the home video world and one of these indie video labels like Arrow or Shout can licence the Planet of the Apes movies from Disney for a 4K Blu-ray release.
@@ChuckKahn let's hope dude 👊🏻
@@ChuckKahn Disney are these goddam stinking Apes that can't make a true 4K BD release of POTA.
I think for Fox titles at least they may sub contract to another label or something - there's just too much content to write the format off when so much is still not even published yet, just a tiny fraction of the Bluray level.
The writing was on the wall when Disney mothballed the Disney Rewards Program for physical media. We used to redeem points for original movie posters, ornaments, free discs, etc. Over a year ago they changed it to “Disney Insiders” and the rewards are horrible. Fans have complained ever since. They strategically removed all incentives from this promotional program to pave the way before of the drop of Disney+. Long before the Fox merger there were signs that Disney didn’t want consumers buying discs.
Nintendo of America has done similar crap with getting rid of Club Nintendo and replacing it with the lame My Nintendo where you have to earn point to get desktop or cell phone wallpaper.
Well, I guess that finally puts paid to a full post DVD physical release of The Abyss and True Lies.
An endless saga of waiting, just for Disney to fuck us as they are about to cross the finish line.
This will backfire. Renting movies for 30$ is their vision. That will backfire also
No this wont. 30$ rental will though
@@vircentti 30$ rental is ridiculous, no one will rent for what used to buy a blu ray.

@@michaeldaude6374 Disney don't care as long as they can profit from the few millions who cluster into those oversized cities, particularly on the coasts.
Disney used to be so magical (especially when you're kid of course), but now they've just gotten so scummy... It's sad... I don't trust digital film "purchasing"/streaming options because one, you are not actually purchasing the film but rather paying to have access to it on that service for as long as that service decides they want to offer it whereas with physical media you OWN that particular copy and it is YOURS, and streaming services are so unreliable, both in terms of quality and availability.
Disney has always been scummy. You were just ignorant of the world like every other child.
Course Disney scum. There full of pesos for crying out loud.
So Disney is saying We love piracy in other words then.
Piracy comes either way, whether from web releases or physical - not nearly as many people practice it as they make out.
I totally agree. Disney is awful. They care nothing about the fans who support them. Why would kill off a product that sells. What a joke!
Surely the point is that it doesn’t sell - certainly not in the volumes vhs or dvd used to (how many non-cinephiles actually own a 4K player ?!) They’re not “ killing off a product that sells ” they’re stopping support for a particular format (like they did with VHS) - the ‘product’ is the content itself & that will still be there just in different formats
@@nathanthomas5133 Whether it does or doesn't sell shouldn't have any bearing on whether they try to kill the format though - talk about sore losers, that's just pathetic.
There's no end of Fox titles left to come out in 4K - up to and including all Die Hard's after the first, same for Alien.
Both the first film of Die Hard and Alien came out in 4K but many would skip such an independent release in favour of a boxset of all of them - something it seems is sadly not coming at this point.
Kenny Hill whether it sells or not does have any bearing on it???!! Yeah because all these companies put out films for charity reasons & don’t want to make money on them - are you nuts? I’m guessing you go to work & Insist on not getting paid for it because hey ‘whether you make money or not doesn’t have any bearing on it’. If they make 50 time the amount on streaming as they do on 4K disc sales then they’ll concentrate on streaming. If they put out a 4K disc & it sells 500 unit’s worldwide why would they put out more when they can save on disc production/sales/warehouse costs & put it on streaming & get a million views for a fraction of the cost of a physical disc
Not surprising. Just look at any of their blurays.
For as far as I know Disney was the last of the big studios to start releasing 4k Blu-rays and when they finally did release some 4k Blu-rays they've always been the worst in the industry by far. Their lousy 4k Blu-rays really are the worst on the market.
When they acquired Fox I already feared the worst for their back catalog. Normally when I want to buy a movie and it's not available on 4k Blu-ray, I'll do some research to see if it might be coming to 4k Blu-ray and I'll just wait to see if it's coming to 4k. However, if it's a Fox title (or a title from any of the other 284 studios Disney has acquired over the years), I'll just immediately buy the Blu-ray. Why? Because it's owned by Disney and I know Disney doesn't care at all about 4k Blu-rays (or their customers), so I already knew we could forget about any 4k Blu-rays of these catalog titles.
Disney just doesn't care at all about 4k Blu-rays and is just trying to get everyone to subscribe for Disney+. It's not without reason their 4k Blu-rays are so terrible. They don't even want you to buy them. They want you to subscribe for Disney+ and even when you're paying for their subscription service, you'll still have to pay them 30 Dollars to be able to watch new releases like Mulan. They're nothing but greedy bastards.
Well, I'm wishing them the worst and I'm not paying for Disney+. I'll just keep on buying 4k Blu-rays from those companies who do actually care. I've already pre-ordered the Alfred Hitchcock Collection and I've already asked my contact from the US (I'm from Europe) to pre-order the Back to the Future trilogy for me.
You have a one time payment with physical media. With streaming there is a monthly fee and you never really "own" the movie. I have movies on DVD that I purchased almost 20 years ago that are still good as new. No monthly fee required to watch them. Studios prefer streaming and digital with monthly fees.
Same here, will never stream just watch hard copies.
There was a fire near me recently & it knocked out the phone exchange & we lost the internet for 6 hours while they fixed it. I really valued those discs I have while Netflix/Prime/Disney+ etc were all totally unavailable !
Steven Lee it’s true, though 100s of those films are not ones I want to watch, also the quality of some of the streaming (& the quality of some of the prints they’re using) can be very dodgy, and you also end up chasing films around subscription services as the rights change (one film I like was on Sky ,then want to Netflix now it’s on amazon prime , soon it’ll probably be on Disney+ !). When my internet went down for 6 hours due to an exchange problem all the streaming services were as much use to me as a house brick (Netflix wouldn’t even let me watch films I’d actually downloaded onto my iPad as I didn’t have an internet connection, which partially defeats the purpose of downloading them in the first place !)
Eh, that one time payment is only if (1) that physical media (and the player you play it on) lasts for the rest of your life (definitely not if you're still on VHS or other tape-based formats, but more likely with DVD and other optical media (maybe even laserdisc if you're lucky) unless the manufacturing was faulty and you get laser rot - but more likely the cheaply-made player breaks); and (2) you don't succumb to the never-ending resolution wars (SD -> HD -> UHD/4k -> 8K -> etc.) and have to continually upgrade.
@@nathanthomas5133 Not that I'm promoting streaming, b/c I favor physical media too. But in reality, fires can happen anywhere and our media collections can be gone just as easily (unless we happen to have a fireproof vault at home for our movies).
I always hated Disney. Worst Studio ever!!! Too bad they bought Fox. Star Wars 4K was a waste of money.
@@scotttild A New Hope was very good that the restoration was done by Fox when Fox was its own thing. The Force Awakens was better from the Bluray but the Atmos track was weak.
@@scotttild episode 2 and 3 were shot on 2K digital cameras, they'll never be true 4K.
Too bad they bought fucking anything! Look what they did to ESPN, Star Wars of course, marvel I think could’ve been better in a lot of ways without Disney, maybe not quite as much budget or extras,But I am sure it would have been more serious more violent Les liberal bullshit
@@necron99.aka-sammyboy92 Its typical American! They bought a Studio and 2 companies like Lucas and Marvel but they don't know what to do with them. Disney is not a Cinematic studio like Fox. They just make family entertainment stuff for money!
I like Disney too, so does its new cousin 20th Century Studios/20th Century Fox, and the “Star Wars” films. I love the “Star Wars” movies, so does the Disney films and the Shirley Temple movies and the Rogers & Hammerstein musicals that Fox made at the time.
This is definitely where Arrow Video, SHOUT Factory or similar companies could come in and save the day. They do a way better job, anyways.
Hope so. Not a fan the PQ and audio you get from streams....quality is lacking big time
Yeah, I’ve come to love their BluRays the past couple of months. Especially Arrow’s.
Criterion too. Although lately they've gotten flack from the purists that they're releasing films that are "too mainstream".
I had an argument with someone that Blu-ray will come back like records because of people getting mad about streaming, they didn’t agree but let’s see who’s right.
And the stupid thing is, they think they're saving some pennies now by shutting down physical media plants, but then when the resurgence (like records) takes them by surprise, it'll be more costly to "dust off the cobwebs" and restart the plants (or even rebuild them if they tear them down) to keep up with the demand (like what's happening with the vinyl comeback).
Disney has completely changed. They are now incapable of creating anything. Even in their own field they don’t create anything new. They just do rework of past big hits. They are also incapable of releasing quality of art 4K Blu-ray’s. On top of that they completely screwed up the Star Wars post trilogy.
I am not gonna spend one more dime for what they put on sale. 😡😡
I literally can’t see anything good coming out of owning Fox aside from Xmen joining MCU. Now they’re shelving Fox 4K titles?? Bad move.
Either somebody bring back Walt from the dead, or may this company go the way of Sears and Radio Shack...
Dale Cornibe Yes, they just ruin every Walt has created.
Ten seconds in and I already agree haha 😅
Me too
So, we need to make bigger mental institutions.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to go to the doctor and say you’re fully nuts.
what's crazy is that they have all the money in the world and yet they never have deals on their 4k blu-rays
Physical Media will Never going to Die Never 💯
Now we will probably never get a 4k Blu-ray of Aliens
Issue with online 4k is it sometimes doesn't feel like were getting 4k content. Physical media gives me best picture and sound.
What makes this even harder to swallow Disney plus HDR and Atmos is a complete joke. Pure marketing that's it
I agree but it is getting better, Hamilton sounded and looked amazing
Black is King wasn't given an HDR grade or an Atmos mix. Even if they were done, Disney didn't find those essential. Fuck Disney
Actually I’ll go a bit further. 4K UltraHD Blu-ray’s do actually sell. I do own a 4K UltraHD player, and it’s not a shit player that you can find anywhere. The point I was making is that Disney is losing money hand over fist and it’s desperate to get people to subscribe to Disney+. Besides I own almost all of the Fox tittles anyway. Most people don’t care about physical, and that’s fine, but always remember that streaming is just a convenience that’s all. The quality isn’t there, as far as picture and sound. It claims to do 4K, but it’s not even close to what you can get with physical. And let’s not forget about the fact that they pull any title whenever they want, and it’s already been happening already.
Disney is truly one of the worst companies out there
once again you are so right about Disney, and I have been saying Disney don't care for years. I don't want to go into one but I have been irritated with them since they started remaking their own classic animations. Its a shortcut to to make the films virtually identical but with actors or cgi and make loads of money from under pressure parents. and disrespecting the original animators from those classics. I love movies and I love this channel keep up the good work from us followers in the uk
Disney exploit cheap foreign Labour like many big companies. They don’t have good ethics. Probably owned by hedge fund assholes.
If Disney doesn't license their back catalog especially 20th century fox titles to the boutique labels, then I will boycott everything Disney. They are bleeding and are hurting and I will vote with my wallet.
I love owning the physical media. I really hate watching movies online only to have the audio sync off when watching the movie or when the movie is either playing too fast or to slow. And the shading during dark scenes because of the compression they do to the movie really drives me crazy. Many long live owning physical media!
Time to start boycotting Disney & Wal-mart....
Disney wants to charge you for streaming over & over. I buy on disc all my favorites. Get all old favorites now before greedy bastards go all streaming.
This is why I've been buying more 20th Century Fox Blu Rays for films I love. I suspect those older films will never get 4k Blu releases and will become even harder to find. Looks like I was right.
They might release some 4k digitally. Our only hope is the likes of Criterion
What movies would you recoment from them.
Was it fox or lucas’s fault that we never got an hd release of the original Star Wars trilogy
Especially on VHS when other distributors of putting Fox movies such as Magnetic Video Corporation, the very first home video distributor, and then 20th Century Fox Video, CBS/Fox Video, Fox Video and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. I haven’t got any Magnetic Video titles at the moment, because these were rare and hard to find, I’m aware of other studios outside of Fox in which Magnetic Video owned are UA, ITC, Viacom, ABC Video Enterprises, the Estate of Charles Chaplin, and Avco Embassy. 20th Century Fox Video and CBS/Fox Video are the ones that owns UA and ITC that I am aware of outside of Fox.
@@vfletes1 I mean, just Google 20th's catalogue through the years and find the ones you want. I wouldn't k ow where to begin there's so many great titles. Master and Commander, Kingdom of Heaven, Die Hard, Speed. Personal favs lately, Unstoppable, Man on Fire, Underwater, Ready or Not, A Hidden Life
This is heartbreaking, especially considering how many great movies could’ve been released on 4K... Fight Club, for example. They won’t back down on this decision unless we collectors fight back.
Tron & The Black Hole would've looked great on 4k...sad.
"25 Avatar sequels nobody asked for" that was hilarious man!
The problem with streaming, especially with Disney+, is in order to save costs, streaming services compress the service down to "just good enough" quality, and although formats are generally standardized, many very common audio formats like Dolby Digital, which everything from DVD to Blu-Ray UHD has supported, Streaming gives you... Stereo sound. Disney+ is a big offender of this, and they won't give you the surround audio track if your setup doesn't support Dolby Atmos, which means you spent a lot of money on your A/V setup sometime in the past two years.
Another problem? Inconsistent quality. And I don't mean in terms of content or bandwidth. I mean in terms of player logic. Many video players start off at crap quality, and either bounce around at the slightest hiccup or refuse to go higher. Without a quality selector to hard select a bitrate (where a skip in the movie is more desirable than a total drop in quality), the experience is worse. There is also no regard to users who have data caps. Let's say there's a movie I want to watch in 4K streaming, then another I don't care too much about that I would rather watch in 480p to save data. There's no quality selector IN then player to make this decision real time, and also no easy way to tell how much data is actually being used. Oh, and some places just don't have stream worthy Internet. Everything has to take days to download.
I've shown people the steaming quality of 4K up against a 1080p Blu-ray, and there is just no comparison. The Blu-ray wins on sharpness and color accuracy.
Oh, and then there is the DRM. The thing that eats your movie in the middle of watching it because of a gltich. The thing that says it can't play your movie that was synced because you don't have Internet... On an airplane. The thing that causes you to only get 720p because of some arbitrary HDCP requirement imposed by the studio or publisher restricting 1080p+ to those who support HDCP 2.2 (meaning you bought 4K HDR ready hardware end to end in the last year). Getting burned by stuff like that makes spending money on streaming a turnoff.
Disney is mostly bucking to the trend of moving to streaming for convenience and speed. Cost and cinema freak wise, yeah, totally getting the shaft.
Disney+ 4k sucks! The compression is so high, it's more like 720P!
I find it hard to believe that they aren’t going to be releasing 4K discs of back catalogue. They literally do the most barebones releases for any company.
They fucked up trying to get in the steelbook game by double dipping too soon after releasing the standard 4K versions and over pricing both versions plus making way to many.
Those Disney steelbooks sat on shelves for months and then they dropped the price to under 10 which is when people actually bought them. They did this to themselves.
They lost money hard and now they are bleeding even more because the parks are closed.
They are so ignorant since all that streaming stuff is free online to watch due to how easy it is to pirate it.
Honestly this makes no sense when every other studio is jumping hard on 4K to make that sweet money people are paying for. Universal for example is make so much money off 4k right now and Lionsgate is also making bank off 4k.
This will not stick at all. Those films are going to be released on 4K physically. Disney is trying to plug holes in a bleeding economy and doing everything wrong.
Thecatdrums3 why is it hard to believe? How many live action back catalog titles has Disney released in 4k? None?
100%
I would bet several million dollars this "source" is full of shit.
Killer Podcasts sounds more like trying to get people to buy more than anything.
@@Thecatdrums3 I don't think its really that. I think its more just them not spending the money needed for the 4k transfers. They are hemorrhaging money. They don't have the extra cash to do it. I would venture a guess we will get 1 or 2 titles here and there until the pandemic is over and the economy recovered.
SB51Lee Hocus Pocus is literally just getting released lol and they released the prestige.
Also Disney has currently released 480 separate releases since starting to release things in 4K. Have only 2 live action titles and a bunch of animation that they sell tuns of units of on any format is why they got released first.
It’s called business just like this scare tactic to get people to buy up more Disney products. Everyone is buy 4K and every other studio is getting that money. Disney saying no we won’t be doing this is the dumbest business decision they could make while they are currently loosing billions lol 😂
I have never watched one of this man's videos before, but I love the voice and I love the passion he has for physical media. New subscriber.
Thank you!
Dang tombstone on 4k would be amazing
Lol glad I dropped Disney plus. Screw these greedy people.
Also all the marvel movies were 2k intermediates for cost savings on special effects. So of course they don’t look as good as a true 4K disc. Disney has always cut corners on physical releases anyways, even their classic titles have noticeable downgrades.
Remember when they pulled out from making 3d blue ray releases before everyone else. They suck!
Steven Lee- many of the newer movies are actually being finished in 4K now. Blade Runner 2049, 1917, and Toy Story 4 are good examples.
Ganonchad- all the films I referenced were all big budget movies. 100, 180, and 200 million dollars respectively. If Disney doesn’t want to finish a movie at 4K it’s not because it “costs too much” it’s cause they are greedy and anti- consumer.
There’s a not so subtle difference there.
Choosing to render special effects at 2k rather than 4K is a business decision- not an artistic one. That’s all I’m saying.
20th century fox catalog titles need 4k releases, so many great movies like aliens, true lies, avatar, face off, con air!!

Disney buying Fox was the saddest day in history. This means no 4K release of Aliens or Die Hard 2-4.
I just hope a third party studio like Arrow, Kino, or Shout Factory get the rights to Disney/Fox titles and puts them out on 4K.
Who cares, im tired of old movies... Bring on the new movies
Physical media collectors WANT to own old films on 4K. That's the whole point to the format. To make old films look the best than they ever have.
Also, Disney hasn't put out anything great in a long time. All of their new stuff is garbage.
The Star Wars sequels were absolute trash, and the MCU has been on the decline as well.
I would take the old over new anyday.
@couldn't think of a username "Minority Report" might still come out in 4K because it's from Paramount.
@couldn't think of a username 20th Century Fox released "Minority Report" internationally.
Never trust a corporation. Soon there will only be four: Disney, AT&T, Toyota and Amazon.
Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Sony Walmart isn't going anywhere soon and list goes on.
Great video. Thanks for the info on the back catalog titles. Sad to hear that many titles won't get 4K releases.
$30 for Mulan. 😆😆. The pirates will be all over this one.
I just don't understand any movie lover who doesn't support physical media. I don't want to rely on the whims of subscription streaming services if I want to watch my favourite films - I want to grab the disc, whack it in the player and go! Even if you're not interested in the packaging, surely everyone wants to *own* their favourite art and not just hope to come across it occasionally?!
Sadly, it seems most people have been converted. The convenience of pressing a button on their remote and the proliferation of streaming services and places online to find movies has them convinced they could find any film at any time. Most don't mind sacrificing quality for convenience, either. Disney is rightfully (it seems) assuming that the majority of people are just looking to see these movies somewhere, whether they're in 4k or not. It sucks for people like us but it's going to be great for their bottom line as we're a small minority. Even among people who buy physical media supporters of 4k are small. After all, DVD still outsells 4k and even blu ray. For most, the cheaper price is more important than superior picture and sound. Disney, like most big corporations, are going to go with the masses. The masses, unfortunately, are not like us. They don't care about being able to put their hands on their favorite movies or watching pristine prints of them.
Wendell Ottley That’s the horrible truth.
Man, me and the rest of the Blu Ray community are still waiting for True Lies to come out on Blu Ray. Never mind the 4K version. It would be awesome to get True Lies on 4K, but it should've been out on Blu Ray years ago. Thanks James Cameron, go make your Avatar sequels, .......the second film should've been out about 2 years ago haha.
More like 10 years ago if you ask me.
Disappointed Disney compression sucks I have a 7.1home theater and digital audio streamed are aweful
I'm all for physical media, and always buy the good remastered 4K ASAP, but the truth is streaming is a VERY profitable distribution model that also eliminates the secondary market. Criterion will still exist to provide hand selected "classic" remasters for a premium like $50 or maybe even $100. In 6 years this transformation will be complete.
Fox one of my all time favourite studios now being ripped to shreds by dizzy Disney ☹
This pisses me off I like digital and physical media I love the the choice
$5 billion in debt, and turning down the opportunity to make money from physical media. The Bobs need to focus on income, or their shareholders will be waving them goodbye!
I decided to stop all Disney purchases due to going Woke and clearly don't care about thier fans (Star Wars, etc.). So, no biggie to me. They are a crappy company now.
Lincoln, war horse, ... just to name a few. I hate Disney
Disney on disc hasn't really been good since 2015. I don't know what happened to them.
Money happened
Scott Tilden No. it’s the money.
They don’t f’ing care.
I’ve been against Disney for along time now. I’m glad others are on the same page.
The Disney era is dying! People are starting to hate them.
God damn right. I’ve hated them for years.
Oh no! We’ve seen you and your friends protesting in the streets!
We’ve seen you trying to destroy a whole country.
What’s ACTUALLY HAPPENED IS, the people who created you have seen the error of their ways.
@@Jaythesparrow well, go hand yourself in to the doctor.

Why can't they put R rated movies on Disney+?
I'm thinking it's going to be a separate service. Disney+ is really meant for kids and familys.
@Winifred Eghrudje I'm wondering if Star will come to Canada?
@Winifred Eghrudje Hulu is not in Canada unfortunately.
Damn, I was really hoping for a National Treasure release.
On a unrelated topic could you help me out? I would like to turn my living room into home theater
I don't know which projector to get, I was going to get the Optoma uhd50x but then I learned it can't do anamorphic format and that's what I was planning to use it for it since I was planning to use it for mostly movies and games here in there. And I learned that that Epson 5050ub does both 2.35:1 and good for console gaming which Optoma uhd50x is not intended for it's intended for PC gaming I could be wrong but that's what I've learned from my research. what do you think about all this and which projector would you recommend that also does great 3D. Thank you.
That means they own Fight Club, Patton, Robert Altman’s MASH and none of those will come out. Also, those will not be on Disney Plus. I wonder if Shawn Belson is still there at Fox.
This is stupid, Disney is a company I hate so much, even though they made many fantastic films!
« Made » being the keyword. After the 1994 Lion King movie, not much magic came from Disney. Pixar yes but Disney not really.
SKR Imaging Mulan is probably the only other movie after that film because Pocahontas (at least in my opinion) with mediocre at best and that movie came out a year after the Lion King in 95.
SKR Imaging - Don’t you dare dis on “Mulan”!
They gave in to the dark side.
LizardGorgeous I didn’t I was simply pointing out it was probably the last decent movie Disney has done and the contribution to that is probably for me at least Jerry Goldsmith.
Disney renaissance era is pretty much the best era at least in my opinion
Feel bad for all those people with crappy internet and super rural areas that can't stream. Terrible terrible idea. God, Disney sucks.
This perfectly describes me. I live out in the middle of nowhere, my internet is really shitty, and I can’t stream more than like 480p (720p if I’m really lucky). That’s basically the only reason I buy discs. Because if I want to watch a movie in 1080p or 4K with no buffering or stopping halfway through, the only option is physical media. And now that Disney is killing physical media, I’ll have a lot less access to movies in high definition.
I just resigned my Disney + subscription. As long as they keep on moving on that stupid path, I am not gonna spend any more dime for them ! 😡😡
PLEASE WALT, come back haunt these stupid managers who just destroy what you have built !
What a shame. I was really, REALLY hoping for an “Adventures in Babysitting” 4K release. I’m waiting to preorder Home Alone 4K on Amazon
Maybe they won't release that movie until Brad takes back what he said about Thor.
Home Alone 4k is definitely happening, anything scheduled will happen - just don't expect anything beyond that, so no HA2 on 4K.
@@trent82 What did he say? That fat Thor, Thor 2 and Thor Ragnarok are all shit?
I'm inclined to agree - Disney/Marvel just don't know what to do with Thor, and the same with Hulk.
It's a shame, but an unfortunate reality that they simply don't get many characters well enough to portray them beyond basic characteristics - they clearly made fun of Thor 1 and its director in The Avengers.
They're just petty dickheads, one and all.
@@mnomadvfx I'm honestly not sure if you got my joke or not. Either way, I don't have a wiener.
I am not a bit surprised... Disney has been a pusher of the online for a long time. They want the consumer’s freedom around movies to disappear. If all movies eventually move online, no more lending to your friends, no more trading in films. No more of your rights with purchase. Lame as hell.
I think the only way they'll come back to 4K catalog titles is if Disney + goes down. Too many people favor streaming over physical media.
This is categorically not true.
That is fake..fake facts, Mr Freak.
@@gregoryjenkins8645 which part my friend? If you're talking about the 4K part, I said I think because I think it may show that we want physical, not streaming. If you're talking about favoring streaming, that's not entirely wrong. On average at work or even your friends, you'll find out more stream. I'm in a lot of 4K, Blu-Ray and DVD groups and everyday people are stopping the collecting and moving to streaming. I seen a article that said 60% of American people stream. I look at that as too many people favoring streaming over physical media.
Hope that clears up what I was meaning because I never claimed those were facts, it's entirely opinion.
You are so right. Great video. Disney is the worst! I wouldn’t worry about them so much except that they now own the Fox catalog which contains so many classic old films. It would be fine if they just licensed these classic movies for restoration and release to companies like Criterion, Kino Lorber, Shout Factory, Arrow, etc.
As if I didn't already dislike Disney enough, what the hell? The fact that one of my favorite films, The French Connection, will probably not get a physical 4K release, is such a bummer. Thankfully there are many quality boutique labels that will be clamoring for the chance to get a shot at licensing out some of those titles. Hopefully they change their minds and Disney + fails miserably.
Thanks for an optimistic look at some sad news; wildest dream: disney creates a line a-la Paramount Presents for classic Fox/Touchstone films. they could license it to another label, basically put in no work and reap the rewards. if that does well, they could listen to the money talking
so sad. long live physical media!
Okay, well... this pretty much sucks 😠.
The only silver-lining news here is Disney's exception for James Cameron films, but we shall see if he gets to personally supervising his back catalogue (as he insists he must 🙄) before he's a thing of the past, too.
Great video man thanks. Really enjoyed it despite the bad news.
It's a shame
I wonder how much longer 4k phisicalally will last
Eoghan Stafford hopefully the X Box and PS5 boost it for a while. But it is definitely in danger.
I hope it lasts I’ve only just started my collection
FDB me too. I have nearly 9,000 Blu Rays and DVDs. But only about 20 are 4K. I have more 3D Blu Rays honestly.
Dangerous Devil Official I love 3D Blu-Ray movies, but when it comes to Disney I’ve had to order them imported from Britain and Europe via Amazon, which has been an interesting experience but also a bit of a pain in the ass.
cha5 I have imported a handful over the years. I don’t get why other countries get these releases and we don’t. I mean we are one of the biggest consumers of media in the world. Even still.
Wow, I guess I’ll never have an HD copy of The Straight Story or What About Bob?
Hopefully they can sell distribution to Criterion, Shout! Factory, Kino, or another specialty home media distributor?
So hoping for What About Bob on bluray somehow! I know it sucks but hey it's on dvd at least but an HD copy would be nice.
I have The Straight Story on blu-ray, it’s a German release (but you can just turn off subtitles), so region B. Was there no region A disc? I’m in the UK (also region B) so at least the German disc was a decent option.
I always want my movies on physical media. This year I lost my cable modem once, and another time they were doing construction down the road and cut the cable line. I only have internet through my cable company, so if that is down I can't stream anything. But I never have to worry about it with physical media. So this decision by Disney seriously sucks.
What 4K player do you recommend?
You speak the truth! Give us Aliens and Die hard 3 on 4K blu ray you cowards!
Scott Tilden lets hope!
3:11, WHAT ABOUT BOB, please blu ray or 4k
They could still release this on bluray. All this mentions is Disney not doing 4k physical
Remember all the people cheering when Disney bought Fox just because they wanted X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU? Ain't nobody cheering now...
What also sucks is that anything rated R from the Fox’s catalogue will never be on Disney Plus, because their service only streams content PG-13 or lower. I believe those films will end up on Hulu, which in my opinion is the worse streaming service, so frustrating.
The Village is my favorite M. Night movie and it doesn't even have a bluray!!
And I want Gore Verbinski's Pirates trilogy in 4k!! All 3 shot on film too!!
They'll license them out. They'll let another company do the leg work and take their cut of sales, meanwhile still having them stream, making money of D+ They really are underestimating the size and loyalty of the die-hard physical media community
So sad that Disney was once a wholesome, boundary pushing and respected creative studio. It was one of those things people the world over associated with all that is good and amazing about the USA (I used to watch Wonderful World of Disney as a kid here in Australia for example!). Now it's synonymous with corporate greed/evil and all that most of the world sees wrong with mega extreme capitalism and the USA's part/influence in that. I have no issues with Capitalism mind you but like anything, if left unchecked and to its own devices can do much more harm than good if profit and a greedy culture is that particular corporations only drivers. I only hope that they reap what they sow and they get their comeuppance! Even their Star Was 4k set (although I bought it) was terribly disappointing. The packaging was OK (nothing to write home about and the Columbia Classics 4k set shows us how much better it can be). But the 4k transfers are mostly pretty average to bad. And this is one of the most beloved and lucrative properties they own. They really are drinking their own bath water in the upper echelons at the moment at Disney. The Star Wars set was the last straw for me. I won't be purchasing anything from Disney ever again until they clearly demonstrate they have changed their ways. Bring on Columbia Classics Volume 2!
Great update! Sucks what’s going on though.
