I love the sumptuousness, wildness, and deep poetry of Martinon's La Mer. It's absolutely gorgeous and the best interpretation I've ever heard.

A reminder of how much I loved this performance. 1970's, recording when in the pre-digital days when recording engineers didn't do funny stuff just because they had some technology easy to abuse.

Nicest performance I’ve heard. A French conductor who totally relates to Debussy’s impressionism. National ethos does make a difference when it comes to best musical performances.

Beautiful, with a graceful movement like the waves... and probably more historically informed than other conductors who like their Debussy slow and misty

This is truly the majestic, solemn and wild scenery of the Debussy‘s sea .
The sea of Japan is nothing short of amazing

Wow,!!! ...an absolutely thrilling performance. Martinon was a great conductor, especially of the French masters, and is far too little well known.

I hear this is a benchmark recording of the work. I think you can't beat homegrown artists to capture the atmosphere of this most French of composers...

I had this on vinyl before I sold off all my LP's before a move. I miss it even though I have since gotten CD performances by Munch, Reiner, and Ansermet. All great, but not Martinon, who got it even better.
