This is the BEST game I played in my entire life. Not for the PvE but for the PvP. It kept me playing 7 years only GvG battles daily. Was part of a few top 100 and top 50 guilds in GvG. No other game had such good PvP like GW1.
I never liked gw 2 in comparison to gw 1. the pvp modes in gw 1 were so darn good. only reason it "died" is because ppl were hyped into gw 2. i honestly wish gw 2 never released.
I started playing Guild Wars 1 since Prophecies came out back in 2005. It's such a beautiful game that even Guild Wars 2 can't touch it. Even if I myself have migrated to Guild Wars 2, this remains my favorite and all time classic.

Just watching this makes wants to play again. I played over 16 years and 15,000 hours in this game. There was always something to do in this game, pve, pvp, gvg, Holiday quests and parties, GVG almost every night. This is truly one of my favorite all-time games. No other game I've played since, has ever given me the fun and satisfaction in both PVP and PVE. Just the satisfaction of healing and DPS build strategies in this game was was brilliant.

This brings back so many good memories and sleepless nights. It warms my heart to known that the devs won't shut downt the servers. Really makes you appreciate it more. This game has been such a big part of my life when I was a teenager. I still have guildies as friends on social media and even know couples who met in GW and have a kid now. The only downside of playing GW now is that you're doing everything with heroes. Making parties and having to do complete a mission with them was sometimes frustrating, but the community was one of the best I've ever experienced. The skill system is what I miss the most in GW2. Half your skills are decided by your weapon and the other skills you barely change, if ever. In GW you'd change your skills all the time! Trying to find a new way to combine 8 out of hundreds of skills.
I used to play from release, and not even 5 years ago there were barely any videos on YT about Guild Wars 1, mainly OSTs uploaded(thanks guys) and a few guides that were never taken down. But I am SO glad to see this resurgence. I played this game when I was 18, I'm 36 now with 2 children and don't anticipate investing so much of my time doing this again, but my account is still active and every once in a while I love to sit in the places I spent the most time in with people who may be reading this now. I love this game. I've had some of the greatest adventures in my gaming life on this game. I initially bought it out of curiosity, because it was said to be a "dead mmo". I figured I was going to treat it like a single player game. That's not what happened however. The community that still plays this game is INCREDIBLE. I've made friends on here that I played 14 hour sessions with going through the story together and watching all the cutscenes and exploring all of the beautiful and unique places that this game has to offer. We went out hunting down skills, they taught me about builds and how everything works. I sank like 200 hours in, in a very short amount of time. I haven't touched the game in a while, but the memories will always stay with me. This game truly is unique. The way you're able to build your character and the story and the world are just amazing.

Nice review. Good to see GW1 getting some love. Re your comment about Nightfall and Factions not being "Real Expansions". You might mention that they add new maps, new story and new classes. Also nightfall adds Hero's of course. So that's ticks all the boxes that other folks look for in expansions. So there's that. And re Eye of the North - You can enter EotN at level 10, you don't have to wait until level 20. My go to is to do that and then level to 20 in EotN with the Scale Up that EotN gives you. And if you follow Asura quest line and get Pain Inverter, you have a 1 shot boss killer to use in whatever other expansion you play later. Also I have mercs that I get using PVP characters, so they start at level 20. Even with these tricks, the game is not a slam dunk, but it's work and a challenge. Enjoy.
I still love this game. Today I've met a random dude from Germany in Dzagonur Bastion while cruising through Nightfall. We did a couple of missions and it felt like I was 13 again. Minus the fear of getting clobbered by the AI :P

Just started in 2023! Well I first played it as a kid but it was only for an hour it two and the game felt very different because it just released. Haven't played in many years. It's cool to see in many towns there's more players still than I thought there'd be.
One day I want to get back into it. I've listen to the ost hundreds of times for over a decade and listened to it today which is my usual 😂 It's my favorite mmorpg of all time and it's beyond nostalgic. Thank you for the video!
I like that you clarify that you're not being paid by Arenanet or NCsoft because the idea of them secretly sponsoring people to talk about Guild Wars is funny mental image to me when they don't even really update the game anymore
To this day Guild Wars 1 holds an incredibly special place in my heart. And there's still so much I haven't done. Plus, I was like 8 when I played the first time around, and only really completed Prophecies, did most of Factions, and did a little of both Eye of the North and Nightfall. I definitely need to get back into it at some point.
i'm really glad i played this for hundreds of hours with my friends back in the days. We still share the stories from time to time and it brings us back ;) Would be awesome if arenanet would give GW1 another shot!
I may come back again. Really good game. Bought Factions very late back in 2018. I can just recommend it to everybody and I love that ArenaNet is still running the servers for it. Also you explained it very well. I would recommend to go with Prophesies, since it's Tutorial still has my heart and my Level 20 Max in their is also a nice Quest to do :D
I still jump on from time to time. I played this when it first released and hadn't played for 12 years. Now I jump back just to enjoy the music and mindless go through random missions. This game is awesome
Guild Wars 1 is the best. I didn't even need to watch the video. It just is. Gonna watch the video anyway and be like "Yeah I love that about Guild Wars 1 too!"
Nah - Not at all I just bought it last week. Lots of helpful people and there are a lot of resources online because the game is so old. I've been having a blast!

"poor man's wow" really does not, and never did, this game justice. It was already a misconception back then and I'm kinda sad to hear you say those words all these years later.
I havent played in years and deleted all my characters because I was a bit addicted back then but Im downloading it right now. Not sure what awaits me...
Played GW2. But my best friend spend many time - long time ago - in GW1. We will now give GW2 together a try. We are over 50 now... Started console and PC games as children... Thank you for your video and - Greetz from Germany!
Over 50, living in Germany, played console and PC games as a child. Any chance that you experienced any of those childhood computer games on an Commodore Amiga computer? I still have my very first computer from 1987, an Amiga A1000 that I spent a small fortune upgrading with an internal hard drive and extra RAM and 2nd floppy disk drive. Haven't turned it on in years, because I also have several other Amiga computers that are more advanced, and even they don't get used much anymore, but they were so much fun to use and learn how computers worked, when IBM compatibles were text only and Apple was just getting going with their Apple II and the first Macintosh models. So sad that Commodore was mismanaged into oblivion, which doomed the Amiga computer to an early death, when initially it was far superior to all other personal computers available at that time. The Amiga enjoyed much more success in Europe than it ever did in the USA, except for video production, once the NewTek Video Toaster was created.
GW2 is different, but it's an amazing game. The game basically start when you reach level 80. If you don't want to focus on PvP or WvW, you'll be forced to buy an expansion, but you won't regret it. The game is really fun, with a lot of contents, maps and places to explore and different classes and specializations (that grant you different gameplays).
Was thinking about firing this up for nostalgia purposes again! Besides WoW. GW was my first serious MMO back in the day. Started in late 06. I think I played last in 2014/15. Over 10k hours invested last time I checked.
I wish it was still as busy as before... I miss doing guild 1v1 tournaments for prizes and that kind of stuff... I also loved collecting the armours for the Assassin and doing UW for ectos... Good times
An incredible game! I got thru proph, factions, a good chunk of eotn towards the end and some of nightfall. I need to finish nightfall, what a fantastic expansion! The music, the environments. The people that still play are awesome!!!
Although I've been playing World of Warcraft for years, I'll say that Guild Wars 1 was the best MMO I've ever played. The game was truly amazing. Factions and Nightfall expansions were great too. Eye of the North not so much. Great game!!!
I could've sworn they took down the servers when 2 was released, I'm legitimately sad I could've been playing this whole time. My favorite game of all time
I'm more into sci fi games. Even so, after 17 years happy spellcasting I also give this 10/10. IMPORTANT note: 'God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals' title can be displayed in guildwars TWO!
Great game. The only thing is because it's old players have figured out all the best builds. Wish anet would do a rebalance of buffing skills that nobody uses any more.
Guild Wars was my very first MMORPG I ever played. I was a beta tester back when they would released the beta test game at the start of every month. This game was (and is still) amazing. I still have very fond memories of my guild and doing GvG, which was an amazing aspect of the game. My guild is still intact, though empty, within GWs. I have one huge pet peeve is when folks refer to the ORIGINAL Guild Wars as 'Guild Wars 1'...grrrr! I'm now 59, still play pc games, but rarely dip into GWs. I tried Guild Wars 2, but it didn't win me over and left me feeling hollow. I would go back into Guild wars, but I find it just makes me sad, as it reminds me of all the friends and amazing players I once knew and are now no more. Although, I will say, it still makes me chuckle when I think back to when the 'flame wars' erupted on forums between WoW player fanbois and GWs fanbois - Guild Wars was the new kid on the block and a potential threat to WoW. The player rivalry between the two camps was massive, and each side looked for every and any opportunity to flame the other. Some were just plain nasty, but for the majority it was good humoured, often hilarious and would have me near to tears with laughter. I was privileged to witness an ANet moderator appear in game with their avatar and drop the 'ban hammer' on a player. The chat window went into melt down, and it was so funny. I also had the honour of chatting with Gaile Grey in game as she appeared in character. The other thing I loved about Guld wars was the Holy Trinity of Healer, Support and Warrior - epic and so much fun in GvG. What I admired about GvG was the fact that lower ranked Guilds got to play on home territory, so if you and your team appeared in a strange guild setting, you knew you were a higher ranked guild. Brilliant. Doing map runs for newbie players was an amazing, fun and warming aspect of the game. We did this for free, some players would charge gold, but to be honest, we ( I ) found it the best way to make new friends and potential new guild recruits. There was next-to-no voice comms back then, so every interaction was typed, and some of it was hilarious, and sometimes heart warming. Guild wars had a real sense of community back in the day on release - yes, we had some 'odd' people cruising the guilds to see what they could get for free then vanish, or just be there to troll everyone - but for the majority, it was a fantastic time and experience. I have dipped in just to reminisce and take my characters for a walk or two. European servers are (or were last time I saw, and forgive me if they have since been shut down) a ghost town, so I shifted to US as everyone seemed to be there who still played the game - but no one I knew. To any and all former and current players and devotees of the original, and best, Guild Wars game. I love and respect you all and you all hold a special place in my heart for keeping this beautiful and amazing game alive. Maybe I'll see you in game sometime.

Thank you for the video!
i still go back and play it from time to time. the first guild wars is still my favorite game.
I think I'm going to return to this game. Thanks for the video dude!
I like that you clarify that you're not being paid by Arenanet or NCsoft because the idea of them secretly sponsoring people to talk about Guild Wars is funny mental image to me when they don't even really update the game anymore
It's cool to see Gw1 covered in 2023. I remember when I got the Gwamm title.
guild wars (1, not 2!) is my favorite game
To this day Guild Wars 1 holds an incredibly special place in my heart. And there's still so much I haven't done. Plus, I was like 8 when I played the first time around, and only really completed Prophecies, did most of Factions, and did a little of both Eye of the North and Nightfall. I definitely need to get back into it at some point.
i'm really glad i played this for hundreds of hours with my friends back in the days. We still share the stories from time to time and it brings us back ;)
Would be awesome if arenanet would give GW1 another shot!
i played gw1 because my mom didnt wanna pay for a WoW Sub
edit: lol just heard the part that you played it bc of the same reason
Ahhh still such a great game. I've played it since launch and still hop on at times.
I really want to start GW1 but I feel like everyone is a vet so I'm infinitesimally behind the curve
Nah - Not at all I just bought it last week. Lots of helpful people and there are a lot of resources online because the game is so old. I've been having a blast!
@iansteel,
That is NOT an acceptable reply to the Kings Decree for the Defense of Ascalon!
Get your credit card out and Buy: Guild Wars Complete, no more cannon fodder whining!
Hope that Inspirational and heavily Sarcastic goading gets you into gear!
Enjoy obtaining your LDoA and GWAMM Titles.
GL and all meant in jest, be well and may Dwayna cure your hesitation.
One of these days I will finish GWAMM! It's only been 20 years!
God dammit I’ve tried so hard to not dip back into it. I’m too busy. Now I can’t wait anymore. Thanks.
"poor man's wow" really does not, and never did, this game justice. It was already a misconception back then and I'm kinda sad to hear you say those words all these years later.
I havent played in years and deleted all my characters because I was a bit addicted back then but Im downloading it right now. Not sure what awaits me...
Miss my warrior😢 need to reinstall this
@@traveling.down.the.road56 Friend had an Amiga, I was team Atari AT und GFA Basic :)
Before mass nerfs it was good
i didnt even know it was going to be open indefinitely. i am rejoining and i am keeping a presearing character to try to get it to 20
Had no idea this game was still around.
I wish it was still as busy as before... I miss doing guild 1v1 tournaments for prizes and that kind of stuff... I also loved collecting the armours for the Assassin and doing UW for ectos... Good times
I played GW from age 6 to 14 or so with my dad. Good times.
I got into to guild wars back in the day best it didn’t have a subscription, too.
Id like to play it again, the solo campaign was so great but no idea about the build.
An incredible game! I got thru proph, factions, a good chunk of eotn towards the end and some of nightfall. I need to finish nightfall, what a fantastic expansion! The music, the environments. The people that still play are awesome!!!
Put 3k hours into it back in the good days. xD
It still is awesome
Playing this game right now. Have been for the past 210months.
My favorite game of all time
This game is the one for me. So much great memories
I'm more into sci fi games. Even so, after 17 years happy spellcasting I also give this 10/10. IMPORTANT note: 'God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals' title can be displayed in guildwars TWO!
Thank you for great video for Guild Wars. It is still a great game. Im still playing a lil
i agree ! the best game ever ! came back to it in 2019
Great game. The only thing is because it's old players have figured out all the best builds. Wish anet would do a rebalance of buffing skills that nobody uses any more.
i wish they'd denerf Shadow Form for all of us solo farmers, now there's no unfair money in it...
Just came back after 10 years. GW1 had the best PvP of any game. Still a great game.
This is still thé best pvp ! it would bé E-sport if this game was released nowadays
@@mouimoiidk2130 nobody plays pvp, it's full of scam bots that farm points!!! literally nobody plays pvp, thus even jade quarry is only players with their cheating farming bots... this game is dead. Nobody plays PVE ALSO, missions are empty all the time. the only active parts are runs, hard mode missions and vanquishes/dungeons etc...
@@johnm2089 gvg is PvP for me, it is thé most technical PvP from any games out there, yes few years ago this game was a gem, they killed thé community from gw1 with GW2 because thé PvP is very very Bad 🤢🤢🤮🤮
@@mouimoiidk2130 fair enough
What? In gw1 worst pvp ever
Your reason for playing guild wars is exactly the same as mine! 🤣 i recently completed a prohecies playthrough and i loved it
I started gw1 in May'05, first ever online game, first ever mmo. Everything about it; the soundtrack, art, landscapes, character building, story..all superb. It was my single most favorite gaming experience ever. Unforgettable nearly 19 years later.
Older millennial who played GW1 when it first launched here. Recently re-downloaded and absolutely loving the experience. Great video.
I loved the theory crafting! My fav team comp was Fevered Dreams, which trivialized most hard mode content. Also had a blast in AB, when it was still alive.
30 max titles for GWAMM :)
Wish GW2 expansions had as much content as the campaigns and expansion from GW1, as well as non-cosmetic land spears lol.
Played since release, the pvp is amazing in this & pve with friends!
Correction, Eye of the North's end game content is Slaver's Exile. It only unlocks when you have completed its story and comes with end game rewards.
This was my favorite game. I had to start new accounts over the years and bought it on steam at one point and every time I scroll by.... it always floods back.
My borther an I played qw1 at the time on one account.
We aquired over 3k hours which was insane for that time
Still one of the best games ever
So sad they never made a gw3, so much untapped potential
