Kind of funny, GW1 is a better game (mechanically) than GW2 and it's less expensive to keep playing. It's almost like the money ArenaNet makes from GW2 is used to keep the GW1 servers running. I know I farm Feathers from if I have some free time.

GW 1 was my first mmo. And now as I have discarded all those other mmos I came back to it. And it still is magical. I tried GW 2 and it was for me only a clone of WoW. I am no longer interested in WoW, and GW 2 holds even less appeal. I still do not understand how the developers could do this! The game principles of GW were simply ignored to make something generic and ordinary. I was sorely disappointed.

Just to add, if you buy all expansions, mission packs, and even the full mercenary kit, you can still get all of this for under $100, which is amazingly reasonable when most games are 80$ per expansion. If you look at larian studios, they set a pace that arenanet could follow. I think everyone agrees guild wars is a unique MMO, if arena net went ahead with guild wars 3, but carried over what makes guild wars stand the test of time, they would potentially have a game as well renowned as BG3. Entirely my opinion but I think they could revitalize their company with a new guild wars title built on what made guild wars so amazing. Even with a skin store, expansions, etc.

I started GWs, roughly 2008/9. Then stopped gaming shortly after.... But came back to GWs when they added the new Elite Skills in 2020. Since then I've been hooked, end of the day, for a 19yr old game it's still a great game.. It's a shame they changed lot of things e.g titles, likes of Legendary Defender Of Ascolan, = Death Levelling in Pre. "Good Times".. oh getting the Drunkard Title maxed 10,000 actual minutes, my mate still pissed about that as he did it twice, and now you can just knock the booze back as fast as you can click.. . But yeah, had some great times back in the day playing this game, and still to this day enjoying working on my first GWAMM title. Also with this game there is so much to explore with likes of Underworld, & Fissure of Woe etc. For me I'm forever learning new shit about the game.

Guild Wars I, the pvp part is dead and much more toxic than League of Legends... if you fail to win a match, dont matter who wasnt focused etc... it may happen then there is toxic speach, rasism,... "and not only after the match" if you unlucky u have to face this kind of disgusting behaviour for days, weeks or months. I never saw that behaviour in any other game... even in lol... and in GuildWars players dont get banned for such speach (even if they woud be arrestet vor it in some countries)... that game is not like RIOT, its Arenanet !!! and they dont have a support ingame, so people can do what they want... (want be the best Mesmer and flame others? no problem buy a Ruptbot and use it sometimes, so your team think you can realy play)... This game is Dead in 2023 and it will be the same in future without support. you think the community works together? NO! If i post the rasist speach etc on any pvp discord... many will hate me fot that "drama"... and even a "Arenanet Partner" on Twitch said... Guildwars 1 is very old and suxx in everyway... GuildWars 1 is still playable, if you play it solo or with a very very little group of friends without pvp or trading etc... if you play in your own little bouble its ok.

Guild Wars was my very first MMORPG I ever played. I was a beta tester back when they would released the beta test game at the start of every month. This game was (and is still) amazing. I still have very fond memories of my guild and doing GvG, which was an amazing aspect of the game. My guild is still intact, though empty, within GWs. I have one huge pet peeve is when folks refer to the ORIGINAL Guild Wars as 'Guild Wars 1'...grrrr! I'm now 59, still play pc games, but rarely dip into GWs. I tried Guild Wars 2, but it didn't win me over and left me feeling hollow. I would go back into Guild wars, but I find it just makes me sad, as it reminds me of all the friends and amazing players I once knew and are now no more. Although, I will say, it still makes me chuckle when I think back to when the 'flame wars' erupted on forums between WoW player fanbois and GWs fanbois - Guild Wars was the new kid on the block and a potential threat to WoW. The player rivalry between the two camps was massive, and each side looked for every and any opportunity to flame the other. Some were just plain nasty, but for the majority it was good humoured, often hilarious and would have me near to tears with laughter. I was privileged to witness an ANet moderator appear in game with their avatar and drop the 'ban hammer' on a player. The chat window went into melt down, and it was so funny. I also had the honour of chatting with Gaile Grey in game as she appeared in character. The other thing I loved about Guld wars was the Holy Trinity of Healer, Support and Warrior - epic and so much fun in GvG. What I admired about GvG was the fact that lower ranked Guilds got to play on home territory, so if you and your team appeared in a strange guild setting, you knew you were a higher ranked guild. Brilliant. Doing map runs for newbie players was an amazing, fun and warming aspect of the game. We did this for free, some players would charge gold, but to be honest, we ( I ) found it the best way to make new friends and potential new guild recruits. There was next-to-no voice comms back then, so every interaction was typed, and some of it was hilarious, and sometimes heart warming. Guild wars had a real sense of community back in the day on release - yes, we had some 'odd' people cruising the guilds to see what they could get for free then vanish, or just be there to troll everyone - but for the majority, it was a fantastic time and experience. I have dipped in just to reminisce and take my characters for a walk or two. European servers are (or were last time I saw, and forgive me if they have since been shut down) a ghost town, so I shifted to US as everyone seemed to be there who still played the game - but no one I knew. To any and all former and current players and devotees of the original, and best, Guild Wars game. I love and respect you all and you all hold a special place in my heart for keeping this beautiful and amazing game alive. Maybe I'll see you in game sometime.

I don't like the phrase "poor man's WoW" being applied to Guild Wars - it had so many unique elements and features thay made it not only different but even superior for some people - such as myself, a (mostly) solo player. Things like instanced maps where you could hunt down all the mobs for a reward, or heroes/henchmen. I also never managed to gel with the WoW aesthetic. I tried several times, but GW1 always lured me back. I really hated the direction GW2 took, removing co-op concepts and making party roles figments of our imagination. I still dropped several thousand hours into it, but mostly because of WvW and exploration.

It took me 8 years of continuous playing to get bored of GW1, still to this time is one of the best games I've played. No fancy levels, DMG, it is all about skill and build making, no 1-shot op mechanics, it just has it all. If GW2 had been a continuity instead of a rare mix, it would have been even better. Trying to get my account back as ANet doesn't want to disable stupid 2FA because I used a very old and deleted email account, and I even have login and pass X_X.
