I’m with you no water in the iron always use a misting spray bottle. In the past I’ve had irons with water in them decide to spit rather than steam. Enjoy watching you play with scraps.
I have been making Charity Quilt tops...the organization that I bring them to (a Blanket Making Group at my mom's church, who hand tie the tops, make quilt sandwiches, then machine bind)... request that the tops are 60 x 80, made up of 10 x 10 finished blocks (pieced or cut)... This creates a 'grid' for them, for hand tying - instead of having to measure...as it is Quilting Bee of ladies circling around the top, on a very large table... this helps with accuracy and consistency of tying... my Scrap Squares are pieced together, to make 10.5 x 10.5 unfinished squares!

Annette have you tried a clapper. I have a small one and it works great for my crumbs that I love working with. This last year I have made a few changes to enhance my quilting. I made a small portable pressing table, so I am more consistent in pressing. bought a small iron and bought a mister and started using the clapper. All make my sewing time much better. Because I like scrap sewing there are usually lots of seams close together and these changes have made a lot of difference. I find I really like the dry iron I always have used steam but found a tutorial that showed the difference in our blocks using or not using steam. wow!! I am a convert. This is a great video. I got a jump on Karen Browns challenge coming up. I also did all my scraps and put into bags. Was very pleased with the results as I also separated by color for first time.

Once again, you have amazed me with your creativity in using up scraps. (I am working forward to the day when I open up a box of scraps that are absolutely just bits and pieces.). I may never see a day when all I am doing is stitching one piece of fabric to one piece of fabric, but I think it is a worthy goal. Today, you have given me more insight into what to do with all the pieces I have joined together in different configurations with no real plan of how to turn them into quilts. Currently, one of my friends and I have been working through bins of fabric. I think, so far, that I have fifteen or more bins that have been gone through (sort of an initial sort). We separated partially-constructed projects, fat quarters, EVERY scrap block we have found thrown in the mix (with more in the bunkhouse waiting for me to get through this first big sort). I am progressing, but I am afraid that I am years behind where you are working. I just want you to know that my friend and I will be reviewing this video as we move into the next step of downsizing each bin into specific colors, bringing in more bins, getting all the quilt tops waiting to be quilted (with battings and backings teamed together for either moving into someone else's to-do list OR actually quilting them up). One again, you made our job a bit easier to comprehend - - the idea of just actually separating the joined scraps into specific sizes is a great encouragement. Merry Christmas, Annette! WOW that was impressive! The 3" blocks I would for sure use in a border, the large block I would probably just put a sashing between them and start making the quilt. The 4" blocks I would either put 4 together or put a frame around them to make bigger blocks. Happy Quilting!
Maybe you can use the small parts and 3 inch blocks for binding. The other blocks can be used in a large quilt by making the 8 inch blocks for the middle part and around it the 4 and 5 inch blocks. Of course counting if there are enough blocks. Scrappy blocks are for me nice to make bags or place mats or little zipper bags. I love scraps. Nice when the blocks are cut to size and turn them and see the beautiful front part.
I always love watching you 'decide' what to do with your scraps. I don't have a lot but earlier this year I sewed lots of thin strips onto foundation fabrics. Then I cut them up and made lots of crossbody type phone bags. Next year I'll be using more to make items for a kids shoe-box charity. Merry Christmas🤶 to you from across the pond 🌲
That was inspiring, I try to do this as I’m sewing. I have a big jar for crumbs and it’s over stuffed so it’s time to relax and sew crumbs. I make as many 2.5” strips as I can, 5” squares, 2.5” squares. Just recently finished a denim circle quilt that took 4 3/8” squares. I trimmed my 5” down. Luckily I had a huge variety of those.

I am a quilt as you go quilter so I chose ten basic quilt designs that utilize 5” or 8 “ blocks. Using 5” squares to make a four patch will also cut down to an 8” block. All scraps are first enlarged to 5” and sorted by color, boxed and labeled. Adding 2 1/2 “ stripe’s to the sides creates a fast 8” block. These two sizes fit perfectly to my batting, backing fabrics with no waste and allow me to be more productive. Thanks for a great video.
Lately I’ve been making hour glass and half square triangles out of my small triangle cut offs, it’s nice to have the first step towards a future project done. Also, it’s a way to sew when I don’t really want to work on my big project

I cut most of my scraps into 2 1/2" blocks with my acuquilt machine. When I started cutting I was going to make a Irish chain quilt but I have found all kinds of embroidery things to do with them. My basket is getting low so need to cut more scraps.
I love nine patches. My smallest scraps are 1 1/2 and 1 inch squares. Make 9 patches of dark and light as either x’s or +’s. Been using 1 1/2 patches with a single feature fabric in larger nine patch blocks x’s alternating with +’s. Will join these up for a quilt. The tiny 9 patches are becoming tiny sawtooth stars for a medallion quilt. Wonderful and easy follow up use for scraps from stash busting quilts. “Organized scrappy”! Thank you for your inspiration!❤

Hi Annette! ☀️ If you EVER get your scrap basket empty, please e-mail a picture immediately! 🤣. I have come close a couple of times, but .... ✂️🧵. Funny, I just created a new handful of scraps today because I made a pillow. 🤣 It never ends.
I would do it by rows. As long as you have a row, say 72 inches long the width does not matter. Sew a row of 3 inch or 8 inch to about 72 inches long for example. Trim to be the length you want whether 72 or 54 or whatever. The width/height of the row is not important, just make the row the same length for the width of the quilt. You can put rows of different blocks together to make the size you want. I started a quilt width gifted star blocks. I am doing it as a row by row. Each row is different with whatever blocks I have or make until it is the length of quilt I decide on. I hope that makes sense.
Stay tuned! This batch of scraps will make about 20 quilts (just guessing here) so that would be a very LONG video! 🤣☀️. You can put rows of different blocks together to make the size you want. I started a quilt width gifted star blocks. I am doing it as a row by row. Each row is different with whatever blocks I have or make until it is the length of quilt I decide on. I hope that makes sense.
I do the same thing! I sort by color first, then add in orphan blocks.
