Thank you SO much for organizing your colors! As an artist and a quilter, the chaos of "just put anything together" does not appeal to me. I know many like the jumble but I find it unsettling. Your "colorwash" version feels joyous, yet soothing to my artist brain!
I agree it's important to understand your esthetic and disregard other people's styles if they don't combine well with your own. Practice the art of refusal!
That is so pretty, this is "MY" kind of scrappy. I'm not a "random" fabrics touching other "random" fabrics because sometimes it just does not look good (to me) - so doing a colorwash with "random" scraps is an awesome idea.
That's a beautiful "wash" quilt. I love this method. I've got tons of scrappy squares, but a lot of times I don't save 1 inch strips - now I'm going to start.
I love this quilt!!! The first layout looked great but wow the color wash version brings the quilt to an entirely different level! Well done!! I look forward to making such a quilt! Thank you Suze!
I liked both of them the rough draft when you put everything up there and then the color wash. I thought this would be a good front and back quilt where depending on your mood you could have either side showing up on the front.
A beautiful quilt top. Just a thought - I think it would be a time saver to not cut the pieces apart after round one. I would leave them sewn together and then sew the matching sides in round 2 and then cut them apart. Also saves time when it comes to ironing the seams.
Your channel popped up on my you tube feed I really like this method. I have oodles of 3 inch squares I got at a garage sale for literally nothing. Been hanging on to them till I figured out what I want to do with them. I think I found it! I love the color wash effect. What a wonderful way to use scraps. Thank you for sharing! .
My quilt group had a scrap exchange and I picked up 2 chocolate tins with 3.5” squares. Will need to adjust the muddle strip and will be making this for sure.
Could this be done with jelly rolls with the added one inch strip in the center? Making the cutting size 5 inches? In my mind that would make it “grow” faster. Just my mind wandering. Thanks for all your great videos!
Thank you for this technique. I started a bin of these blocks but your way is so much more logical. You’ve inspired me to keep playing with that block Merci & Merry Christmas Chris Ont 🇨🇦👋
I would love to use my scraps but I have a hard time with the visual noise of scrappy quilts. Your color wash version has been the inspiration that I need! Thank you.
I am involved with making quilts for project linus in Washington state, Lewis county. This would be a very easy but effective block to use for these quilts. Thanks for the video ☺️
Thank you so much. I love this quilt. And…I make quilts out of men’s dress shirts. When I cut them down into fabric, I’ve been saving all the fabric I can - even the button plackets, which usually wind up being a long strip of 1” to 1.5” of usable fabric. So now I have a definite purpose for these scraps :) Idk how long it’ll take me to make this quilt out of them, but I’ve already started cutting out strips and pieces for the blocks. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful ideas. I love your videos.
Absolutely great job color wash. I have been working on a similar project and was wondering what to do with the ones that didn’t quite fit a color. Love your solution 💙💚💜
Hermoso trabajo!!!! Una forma muy práctica de aprovechar todos los retazos de tela y además una forma muy ingeniosa de acomodar cada pieza para lograr un degradé.
I LOVE this look!! Reminds me of Terry Rowland's color wash quilt but this construction looks more organized to my ex-librarian mind. I have stacks and stacks of 4" squares so will start with those, but no 1" strips. I was thinking I could use my piles of 1.5" strips in the middle, but I think that leaves me with a rectangle rather than a square. Right? So I need to cut down all the 1.5" strips, don't I ?
Not necessarily - I believe you can use what you have. Perhaps do a couple of trial blocks to see how it works for you. You can trim your blocks at the end to make them square.

So true!

Love your description of a garden through a wet window.
I loved it too, very poetic!
Thank you! This is the first time the "color wash" placement makes sense to me.
Such a great idea. I do love the way you arranged them into colors. Thank you for this tutorial. Now I need to cut some 1 inch strips.
Enjoy!
I love simple ways to make blocks that look hard or fussy to do. Beautiful quilt!
I think you'll really enjoy making this one!
I love this quilt!!! The first layout looked great but wow the color wash version brings the quilt to an entirely different level! Well done!! I look forward to making such a quilt! Thank you Suze!

This reminds me of a wet window view on a colorful street scene. I really like it
I absolutely love how you assembled the blocks. It makes my artist’s heart sing.
It made a huge difference between random scrappy and this.
Omg. Now I have to start sewing at 9:00 pm. Ty!
Haha - that happens to me all the time!
I liked both of them the rough draft when you put everything up there and then the color wash. I thought this would be a good front and back quilt where depending on your mood you could have either side showing up on the front.
Yes, you could totally do that!
I love sewing from my scraps. Thank you for this free pattern and ideas. This looks like a lot of fun.
Have fun!

That would work too.

So cool!
My quilt group had a scrap exchange and I picked up 2 chocolate tins with 3.5” squares. Will need to adjust the muddle strip and will be making this for sure.

Thank you so much!😊
So beautiful! I think I would have to use 5 inch blocks, but I do love the look of the smaller blocks! Thanks for showing us how to chain piece them!
You are so welcome!
Love it small squares maybe I would do bigger😊
Yes, this technique would be great with different size scraps. I have a bunch of 5” squares which I could pair with 1.5” strips!
Hermoso trabajo!!!! Una forma muy práctica de aprovechar todos los retazos de tela y además una forma muy ingeniosa de acomodar cada pieza para lograr un degradé.
¡Gracias por el maravilloso cumplido!
