Although Oathbringer is not my favorite SA book. I totally return to the Thaylen field sequence for how to write a reverse of fortunes. It all pivots on "you cannot have my pain" and it is beautiful!
Words of Radiance is my Favorite Stormlight Book, and Rhythm of War have the moment that made me cry, But this, The battle of Thaylen Field is (rivaling with Endgame´s final Fight) the best moment i have ever experience in any media
At the same time that everything else is happening, we also get the awesome reunion of Ash and Taln - she has so much guilt for betraying him but he refuses to condemn her and actually celebrates the "gift" that the other heralds gave to humanity. "They say it’s been four millennia. I don’t always … note the passing of time.…" "Four thousand years? Ash… What a wonderful thing.” “We left you, Taln.” “What a gift you gave them! Time to recover, for once, between Desolations. Time to progress. They never had a chance before. But this time … yes, maybe they do.” “You can’t be like this, Taln. You have to hate me! Hate me, please.”
"YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN!" That line. Is so fucking good. And when Dalinar opened the pathway back to the physical world. Odium going. "No we killed you!" it really seems to me like in that moment Dalinar embodied Honor, and assuming he wins the challenge of Champions he will become Honor reborn. Kaladin's duel with Amaram is so damn good, and I wonder if the Gem that held one of the Unmade that Amaram ate allowed him to gain the powers of the Shardblades. Meaning we know Oathbringer was the sword of a Stoneward, and Amaram used stone shapping and abrasion, the other sword is described as Flame like so I assume it was held by a Dustbringer since it did burst into fire in one of his swings. How he got lashings I have no idea. But him trying to fly was dumb. After all the Skies are Kaladin's. Also this is also the first time we really see the bond between Mya and Adolin. She appears to his hand in 7 heartbeats, to help him vs the Thunderclast. Also I am 100% sure any other non radiant going up against that thing without Shardplate dies in like 3 seconds. And Adolin injured it, dodged it's attacks and saved a child all with nothing but Mya in his hands. Adolin is just built different.
I think something you forgot to mention is the Meta element, where the hype payoff effectively doubles. Sanderson's writing, and especially Stormlight Archives, is about the innate good of men, about how - if you just try - you CAN become a better person and overcome seemingly impossible odds. When Dalinar accepts his fault, when Teft accepts his fault, when Kaladin fights again and Renarin pushes on and Jasnah chooses to believe Renarin is a good person despite the possible corruption by Odium, that's the growth and overcoming of self Sanderson ultimately wants to teach us. That, in my eyes, is as 'epic' as the entire battle.
I loved the trial scene in RoW for the writing, but didn’t feel the hype because it was hella telegraphed. Thaylen Field was a half a dozen different things that we didn’t know were possible until they happened but still made sense within the universe, so it was just one mind blowing development after another without any of it just feeling like _next-ideal_-ex-machina.
Great Video! I personally loved the battle of Thaylen Field....... but only in retrospective. The way it was written with jumping between characters so often I felt negatively impacted the story's impact alot. I think "you cannot have my pain" is one of the best moments in stormlight, but only after my 3rd read of the book.
I can completely see where you’re coming from. Yeah, it could be a bit jarring to see all those perspectives at first, but for me it just hyped me up even more lol! Thanks for the comment!
@@HarshReviews Thanks for spoilers, I didn't read RoW yet but just by reading that my guess is that Adolin is at trial and they try to use his deadeye Maya against him, but she at everyone's surprise starts speaking and says "we chose" "we chose to break the bond with radiants" This also makes me believe that herald Kalek is staying with honor spren too.
@@wooshbait36 dude it's been more than a year since ROW was released 😂 people can't be expected to have a spoiler warning for everything anymore. But regardless, Rafo 👀
Best in depth nerdy analysis with art I have seen for Cosmere fans. If you are still discovering the Cosmere..... I'm jealous! It's AMAZING connecting all of the Cosmere.
Anyone else was scared for Adolin through the thaylen field battle. Like I was like please no but it had some moments like so hype like I am unity was so satisfying. Beautiful dalinar reach that conclusion of dealing with his past and redemption man amazing. The way odium dip and was terrified was hilarious and fitting
Been enjoying all your videos mate, some really great and entertaining content! I’d appreciate a little spoiler warning though if you’re gonna spoil books past the event in the title of the video. I came here after finishing Oathbringer (currently reading RoW) and didn’t expect to learn the Kaladin achieves the fourth Ideal in RoW in a video about the climax of the third book. Not a huge deal, but the heads up would have been nice:)
Hey! Really sorry about that dude, I usually put a warning in my description but I forgot this time :(( I updated it rn, but that was my bad, I’ll start putting it in videos from next time!

I've read warbreaker, if that's what you're referring to! Let me know if there's anything else I've missed regarding to nightblood cuz I love that blade.
@@HarshReviews Excellent! I got Warbreaker from a flea market book store back before Robert Jordan passed. I listen to the audiobook maybe twice a year.

It’s one of those sequences where I put on epic music in my headphones and just experience it. Everything just works.

Well said! Thaylen field is just special man.

It was just so powerful. This is the interaction between immortals we get to see, in Sanderson's works.
man. Reading that makes me want to tear up. Taln is just so selfless and glad that his sacrifice meant something
