The Good:
- The shrink section is pretty clever, especially having the drop represent shrinking
- Some really nice colors, especially in the lower levels
The Bad:
- No focus or plot. "Let's find some animals for the band! Let's find some animals for the band! Let's find some more animals for the band! Great, we found animals for the band!" Even Winnie the Pooh has the Heffalump and Woozles section.
- A lot of the scenes are too empty
- The screen effects and animatronics do not mesh together. The 2D screens are alright, but the 3D ones are downright uncanny valley.
- NO BUILDUP ON THE FINAL DROP. This is former Splash Mountain, not Slightly Damp Hill. Braving the final drop was a rite of passage to me as a kid, not just "some drop on some ride".
Agreed! I'd really like to know what focus group shot down using Dr. Facilier, because he would be so good to add a pinch of menace to this. It's too much of an ad for whatever restaurant they are building to accompany this. Dancing okra!?!
This is the most perfect example of what’s wrong with the ride I wish more people saw if that way so Disney can fix it in the future

Everything that could’ve made it great just wasn’t present. They messed up not showing Tiana wearing her green princess dress, no villain, and no sense of dread while going up the final lift hill.
I don’t see why everything needs a villain? Yes it does help show the duality in the story (Good vs Evil), but sometimes that takes away from a overall experience, be it movies, shows or attractions

It needed its villain present. As a huge fan of the Disney movie this ride seems like a huge slap in the face to the people who worked on the movie and the people who adore it.
I’ve been oversaturated by the movie, my family loves it, but the ride was clearly stated to take place AFTER the movie, so the doctor is gone, if Disney had him come back they’d have to justify his existence once again despite him being dragged into the other world

Fun fact: Evangeline means “bringer of good news”.
@@Ghost_a_Rat I agree that this ride didn't need a villain per se but the fact remains that the bayou in the movie was a place of both beauty and danger. They could've chosen not to use Facilier but still given us a fully fleshed out bayou adventure as the ride name suggests is the idea after all. This continuing "here's even more musicians and TIana and Louis once again commenting on it" thread is not enough.
The animatronics look nice enough, but it does seem unenergetic and almost generic. Personally, I'd have made it a Kermit's Swamp Ride with all the Muppets visiting him, make it fun and wacky, maybe have Fozzie fill in for Bre'r Bear as an homage to Splash.
As a both a Princess and the Frog and Muppets fan, this idea literally sounds SO epic. Idk why they had to *replace* Splash Mountain when they could’ve just made a new one just like it with Tiana or Kermit somewhere in the park!
Imagine a Zootopia overlay of SM that has Judy and Nick taking on a case in a frontier part of Zootopia.

I love the Princess and the Frog movie but this ride is so dull and such a downgrade in attraction experience from Splash. Imagineering let Tiana and the fans down. Shameful.

It was actually more boring then than it is now. Before, the entire ride was a food Co-Op from front to end. Charita Carter has a reputation of ruining what she touches and other employees had to scramble it to make sure it wasn't a complete disaster
The theme here is that Carmen Smith and Charita Carter are destined to destroy every beloved Disney ride with their "rethemes".

How can you have water ride without dread going up final lift. Even frozen ride has a snowman trying to grab you before you go down. No shadow man with “are you ready” playing?

It’s crazy how quickly people commented on it. I started watching it in its entirety as soon as this dropped yet people were able to comment within mere seconds of it dropping.
So yeah I did watch the entire thing, I think it’s the music that is just, not good. Then the laughing place became a drug induced trip I guess? I don’t really understand the story except she wants to have a party, I don’t see party planning going on. So is it more about the journey to the party? Which I guess isn’t at her place? Though the last scene makes it look like it’s at her place? Story wise I’m lost, music wise I’m not feeling it. This doesn’t really mesh well with Frontierland. Idk. Just disappointing, probably will save myself the time from going on this ride. I liked the old story and the old music.
It seems every time they update attractions anymore, they make them worse. Pirates have auctions now, and the hatbox ghost is ruining the nice hallway scene since you shouldn’t see him until after the seance. Even in the movie the characters don’t see him until during the seance. The hallway was my wife’s favorite scene originally.
I just have lost all faith in the Disney Company. They need to replace Iger and others with actual creatives. Because this isn’t working.

Welp, time for anyone interested in Disney parks to start learning Japanese. It’s the only park worth going to.
It's like comparing the victim to the assassin.
This really beautifully shows how the classic Imagineers designed scenes in a way that caught and surprised your eye. There was depth and intrigue in Splash Mountain that has been replaced by a certain dullness in Tiana's. Tiana, Louis and Mama Odie appear over and over, not in a way that sparks our curiosity, but just to explicitly remind us of a story that's hard to care about in the first place. It feels like a kid's ride cosplaying as an E-ticket. It's really sad, as there is so much to love about the movie and its characters. I see the respect for that in the queue, but once the ride starts we enter local theme park storytelling. Wild. Another miss.

Man, the external foliage looks great, but that's all it's got going for it over Splash Mountain.
They plussed some of the scenes visually and technically but it lacks the tension of the original due to having no villain. The original had catchy music throughout while some of the new songs fall a bit flat. The song at the party is pretty catchy though.

Tiana’s bayou adventure feels like a Disney junior episode rather than an emotional thrill ride with an actually good story like the original splash mountain had. This whole ride is a huge disappointment.

Looking forward to Tom's review and Tom's rant about the changes done to this ride. Have to say after seeing it a few times that the music and the animatronics are growing on me. Also the final party scene is gorgeous.
But the story is bad (looking for musicians for my party, Mama Odie shrinks you so you can check out insect and frog musicians, Mama Odie grows you back to your old size, Mama Odie sends you to the party quick via the big drop, and the party scene), especially compares to Splash Mountain.

@@robert4travel hey to each their own. I’ve been less and less interested with Disney parks year after year. They killed the soul of Epcot. So I don’t think I’ll even want to go back again until there’s a change in how things work. I used to love to go. They’ve lost their way, they need a Walt like figure to run the parks and be able to do what he/she/they need to do to make things make sense again and have good stories.
@@robatkins I hear you. But Disney is all about making money and people still turn up in droves at the parks and spend their money. Unless that changes and people vote with their feet and go elsewhere Disney is not going to change I'm afraid. I still like to go but only once every few years, it's otherwise too expensive...
@@robert4travel Yeah last time I went in 2022. I just felt disheartened, I saw Epcot’s future world just gutted. From my first time as an adult there in 2016. I was there as a kid in 1989 so I got to see Epcot at its height. Though, Disney would make more money if they did Walt’s way. Instead they are going to keep losing ground to Universal and other places. At least in the virtual world we’re building at my game studio You Pass Universe - we harken back to the 1960’s futurism and the creativity that it sparked.
If they brought back ray which died , facilier should have been back to try to stop the guests from getting to the party.
No comparison- Slash Mountain was much better. New ride has no real story line. Big disappointment
The only upgrade is how it visually looks at night, anything else is sleep material

Thanks for this! It does help me see the parts I like better about the new ride and the parts that are definitely lacking. My expectations went on a roller coaster from dirt floor to sky high as stuff was coming out about it, so of course I crashed back down when Disney dropped their ride-through. But, I’ve since leveled out.
The thing that gets me the most is that the ride wanted to be separate from the movie to the point they ignored everyone and their momma asking for Dr Facilier to lead you up the final lift, but most of the music is from the movie! INCLUDING a song sung by a DEAD CHARACTER (though of course I’m always happy to hear Jim Cummings as Ray)
The biggest issue is that for a thrill ride, the story basically forgets it's a thrill ride and acts more like a Fantasyland dark ride.
visuals are nice, music is fine. i don’t hate it but the story is really bland. they could easily change the story and add a villain or two at a later time. splash mountain is my favorite ride and i’ll go on it no matter the theme. thank you for the side by side!
I'm riding it July 20. I actually can't wait. I know I'm in the minority here, but it looks absolutely gorgeous to me. I love the animatronics, I love the music, I LOVE the water tower, and the finale scene is beautiful. Granted, I also greatly enjoyed MMRR, GotG MBO, and FEA, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but as someone whos favorite character is Tiana, whos favorite colors are blue/purple, and someone who's favorite ride on Earth was Splash Mountain, I love this. I cannot wait to ride. Love all the WDWNT team, keep up the good work 👍
seeing them side by side really makes you realize just how shockingly bad Tiana is, Splash was so bright,colourful and inviting with many animatronics, Tiana is dark,dull, empty and boring! the only reason you'd want to ride TBA is to cool down or if you wanted to catch some sleep
Honestly, the outdoor scenes on average look a lot better now, though some of the signs are tacky. In terms of the interior... it feels like it's unfinished; the final lift hill especially. I can follow the new story rather well, though it's kind of a non-entity. The most damning thing is that one of the animatronics is already broken.
I don't like log flumes, so I don't have a big stake in this game, but it feels like an underwhelming side-grade than a substantial improvement or worsening.
Either way it's still the same ride system, ride path, and ride style, so it's still ultimately the same ride.
I can definitely see them closing it in a year or two to redo a few scenes and rebrand it as "Splash Mountain: Tiana's Adventure" or "Tiana's Bayou Splash" as a compromise fix a la Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

Ok. So, am I missing the story or is this just supposed to be a ride through the Bayou? Hardly any dialog, the music (to me) isn't catchy at all. I've been to the Bayou many times and there is blue water in abundance, the brown water just doesn't look good. Thumbs Up for the Video, thank you, and a Big Thumbs Down for the attraction.

Not much of a story. You go on an adventure to find a band for a party. 1st world problems. Oh, and you’re a special kinda spice…which kinda gives off the vibes that they only invited you to dinner because….you are dinner….I digress…I get what they were going for but it sounds so funny to me. 😅

After watching both pov of Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure no doubt about it Splash Mountain is much much better, if Walt was still alive this would have never happened the imagiers should all be fired. even Iger made a comment as to how slow and boring it it is Fans will say they like only because of how long the ride was closed and they missed the drop
It was alright, but not great for trying to retheme.. and if they needed to do this because the original was considered to be racist, you can look at the new theme and the characters voices, seems to be racist, or can be argued it is.
Being charitable: none of the scenese really look that bad (a few of the screens seem jarring at least on video) but the story is absolutely pointless and boring. I dont mind the "empty" parts as much as others - original splash also had some in between pieces and always was an atmospheric ride to me but there was a strong story and enough small drtails to keep your interest. This just feels really meh.

Considering Disney knew that there would be a lot of backlash, they needed to ott the ride/set design. Example I was hoping the drop because it was Mama Odies place would have tons of bottles and lights to match the scene in the movie. But like 5 hanging bottles is not cutting it. The concept art was beautifully rendered, there just needs to me more in reality
I'll never, EVER forgive Disney for doing this! Splash Mountain NEVER got old! I rode it 5-6 times straight sometimes during a night-time parade and it made me happy every, dang time! Wokeness is a PLAGUE!

Fr, it really irks me how Disney let the ride go in its last few years because that’s what your average person is going to be using to compare, they’re not gonna seek out the better quality POVs.

It's not the best side by side. Scene for scene, the stage lighting is improved, less warehouse and neon gauche and animatonics are much more elaborate, technical and impressive. Aside from a small screen or two that could have been actually animatronics, they made up for in the final scene! I am happy they didn't do to Splash what they did to Maelstrom and Figment! Im impressed and pleased.
The new theming is fine. If there was a better story this could have been a great attraction. The other major weakness is using original songs instead of those from the movie (most people adore the soundtrack).

Honestly I love the characters, animatronics, lighting, and music. They all are incredibly well done and hats off to the brilliant minds that made this happen. I think the criticism over the story is warranted and it’s unfortunate it had to follow in the footsteps of such an iconic ride. I think if this ride were to be put in without replacing the OG splash, people would be raving about it
The critters animatronics are nothing like from the old splash critters
I think the lack of story is absolutely its fatal flaw, because it reduces the thrill of the ride from being the central focus to merely an afterthought with no real relevance or practicality to the story. Splash's story purposefully built up and dramatically teased the final drop, while this one just...kind of has it for the sake of having it, adding nothing of value to the story and feeling completely out of place.
Riding it might be a different experience than watching the video, but it doesn’t appear that the ride track changed any. I am probably wrong but the similarities are striking.
The layout was not altered...but because of that, it's easier to focus more on the actual theming and story differences (and boy, does the new version drop the ball on story).

Just like when they rethemed Figment! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! We went to WDW in 2022. My grandson was too small to ride Splash. We’re going back soon and he won’t ever get the chance to see what a great ride it was! Now, all he’ll get is boring Tiana!😭

@@travelmehmet We should, it's run far better than the US parks because OLC actually cares about the end product a lot more. Tokyo is the gold standard of Disney that the current corporate overlords in the US have lost sight of.
You did such a great job with this video! This is so cool to watch both of them! I love the lightness and brightness of Tiana's vs. the darkness of Splash Mountain. I understand why they needed to change Splash Mountain, from a cultural standpoint, and think Disney did a wonderful job!
as a 30 year old Disney adult...i don't get the hate. the previous splash had lots of "Blank" space as well. i would admit that at least half of this boat ride is outside. And they really don't play with it at all. Even Splash had these moments ( with this video as an example). Where there really was no "story" or focus during the outside portions. And the story with two thugs kidnapping a kid...well that story line was not exactly P.C. anymore. As a child this ride actually freaked me out more often then not. One does wonder why they started with the whole food co-op thing if the next "active" scene was with Tiana searching for her Opening entertainment. Some of this could have been another hunt for the perfect recipes. Like the blank walls along the outside turns could have recipes on the walls like "greeblies".
however for what the ride is, its an IP ride. AND THIS IS NOT THE WORST THEY COULD HAVE DONE. I was never around for the Dream Finder and even I know, they absolutely destroyed Imagination pavilion. For the IP chosen and the ride system they had. Its not like they burned their money like they did with DCA. This is still a ride worth maybe 30min to 45 depending on your want to get wet.
Original DCA==The sharpest critique of the ill-conceived park comes from the late Disney Imagineer John Hench: “I liked it better as a parking lot."
The biggest issue with this version compared to the previous is that the story no longer matches with the physical ride. Splash Mountain at least used its story to thematically build up the final drop, making it feel much more dramatic and intimidating (and thrilling); without those same story beats, the drops are just...there for no real reason, with no buildup or practical relevance to the story.
The one change that would immediately fix about 80% of the problems would be overhauling the old Laughin' Place to add some actual thrilling plot points to help justify the final drop more (the voodoo shadows, for example). Without that thrill factor in the story, it feels flat.
Think Tiana bayou adventure win?
There shouldn't be an ounce of red clay anywhere on Tiana's Bayou Adventure. All that red/orange material should've been painted mossy swampy green. So lazy.
EDIT: Having said that can we re-upload this video with a DAYTIME Splash Mountain POV?
Besides covering Splash in go-away-green, (hopefully) coloring the water dirt brown, taking away any conflict in the story and not having prince Naveen or Dr. Facilier... it seems great!

I love Splash and have heard that lots of opportunities were missed in the re-theme. With one being at night and dark and the other during the day, I find it hard to draw any conclusion. Apples vs. Oranges.
Hopefully Disneyland version is better and has the same old splash critters hopefully
Ok. I’m going to be honest here: this is an amazing ride. I loved Splash Mountain. I still do. BUT. What they did to this ride was really great. They blended the screens and animatronics perfectly. I’m reading other comments that are like “It’s sTraIgHt oUt of UnCaNny VaLlEy” And you know what, of course it is. Anything that was 2d that became 3d is going to look weird at first. But over time, YOU WILL GET USED TO IT. I rode this twice, and each time, it was better. People look at Cosmic Rewind and applaud it for combining thrill with music. Yet when this ride does it, people complain. That lift hill before the big drop is so much more fun than the original. Does this ride need a villain? No! Let me make it simple: Who is the villain of space mountain? Who is the villain of Soarin? But with all that, let’s not be sad it’s gone, but be happy that diversity was shared in a positive way.
Sorry, Grocery Shopping: the Ride is not a compelling setup for a thrill ride.

Why all the hate? Tiana's looks great. The world only spins forward. Walt said the park would never be finished.
It lacks story and imagination. The music is not catchy. Walt said it would be plussed, not subtracted from. This is not interesting, fun, or exciting. This reminds me of Avatar land, boring, no story, and I have no idea what’s going on.
Walt also would not have wanted to worse lazy attractions to replace classic ones

this is so sad. Splash Mountain was so good. divorcing the rides from the movies, it was just so good and expertly themed.
How does something so expensive look so cheap?
Beyond the few high quality animatronics, the overlay looked pretty cheap. Especially in the beginning where the green swamp details don’t mesh with the red clay of splash mountain. It’s like looking at a bald man who has a white beard having the courage to wear a black hair price: you aren’t fooling anyone.
Also, I am kinda shocked they didn’t fit in friends on the other side somewhere. The Keith David’s performance and song are arguably the most iconic component of this IP. I get that Dr. Facilier died in the movie, but it is weird to see no reference to the song or character.
I heard a lot of bad reviews and I almost always resist change, but I gotta say the new ride seems fine and I really like the music better.

Boring - Stupid 💩 plot, No tension or drama... I almost feel asleep watching this new ride. Congrads Disney! You have succeeded on creating the same issue that you did with the Figment ride in Epcot. Disney keeps failing... sad. 😥. #DisneyFailedAgain

I wish they would compare the two evenly: both be in daylight or both at nighttime. Overall Splash Mountain had better world building and a more dramatic story, but Tiana's Bayou is very pretty. Love the firefly lighting and greenery. And I do I like that ending scene. Either way, I know I'm going to ride this ride - just like how I rode Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railroad after they got rid of my beloved Great Movie Ride.
We wish we had better daytime POV of Splash as well.

They changed too much
It’s clear people were gonna hate no matter what they did. The side by side shows the tianas is better to anyone who is objective.
What?? there is only a muddled story and no suspense with Tiana's. So many screens.
The early POV releases even lost the interest of people who were excited about the changes. This isn't just butthurt Klansmen or blindly nostalgic park fans slamming the new version, this is genuinely not going over well with the public.
Almost bare....Almost bare! The new Disney, hype followed by failure. The Princess Frog film had a great story and they used nothing! What a waste of money and time! I guess this is the you get then your CEO hates everything and everyone except himself and hires DEI activist that hate everything! Woman dressed in safari outfit seeks alligator...then we get shrunk to see frogs barely move, then we get big again, then splash and a party at end in front of a flooded building? Brown logs floating in brown sewer water! How ironic!
