I wish they had just followed the plot of the movie instead. Imagine Dr. Facilier and his spirit friends attacking the boats and sending you into the drop. It would've made for a much more interesting ride.

This is why you don’t replace a Tony Baxter ride- the man is one of the best Imagineers of all time, no one knows how to craft and attraction with great story telling better than him

I don't think that would make much sense. The song is sung twice in the movie. Once for the catalyst for the movie, and once for the climax. Facilier sings it for the catalyst, but not for the climax. It would have to be based more around his death than him turning Naveen into a frog. But I agree in general, I think it could've been incredible
Wow, this makes no sense. So…you went to basically Whole Foods and Tiana was there and said she needs to find some musicians who are also animals. So she asks you to go do that in the swamp. I guess that’s a ride. But then Mama Odie shrinks you or turns you into a frog for no reason. Maybe the point was that in order to find the frog musicians you had to become a frog? But then you are big again in two minutes. And then you go to some kind of party. My biggest question is why Disney doesn’t want to use the outfits and Tiana images from her movie. It’s like Galaxy’s Edge not wanting to use actual Star Wars characters. Maybe this is a rights payment residuals issue? They create stuff just for in-park use so they don’t have to pay the people who did the original Tiana stuff?
What a joke - this is a sign of things to come. Countdown to when all these things are going to jerking around, covered up, and replaced with screens in no time.
Firstly your POV video is much better than the one Disney officially uploaded. I am noticing a lot of technical glitches this time. Those must explain the cuts in the version Disney released. But you seemed to stall for unusually long at the top of the first drop, and then Louis' mouth isn't moving when we first meet him. Now we're stuck outside the finale scene for an abhorrently long time. Then after all that you're apparently rushed through the finale scene which has the most to look at by a long shot. When the plot was first explained I thought it sounded decent if not a bit vanilla. But the execution is lacking. I thought we were going to find musicians for the band but right around the first corner and we've already found a complete band...so much for exploring the bayou and meeting little different critters along the way. Other than the (static) armadillo, they're all just thrown at us. I don't understand the removal of all the critters. I thought the bayou would be filled with them dancing and enjoying the music. Why can't there still be possums dropping down from the ceiling and critters all over? Have changes already been made because I could have sworn Louis said something like "How low can we go?" not "How's this?" Impressive animatronics aside, many of the critter animatronics seem extremely basic and lifeless. Didn't Mama Odie say something about making a"big splash" at the party? Are there multiple dialogue tracks? Maybe the tracks have a few phrases to avoid repeating since it's a slow moving ride. The big drop just plops you down into...nothing. No music. Weird.They could have decorated this whole area for Madi Gras. The finale scene composition isn't great. It just feels crowded but not grand. The lack of forced perspective I think. A Mardi Gras float or something with movement is needed. Final thoughts: Where is the drama? Where is the whimsy? Why is Tiana now Dora the Explorer?
The ride queue can’t seem to decide if it exists in the real world or the cartoon world of the source material. Having cartoon photos next to a real life kitchen and larder is jarring (no pun intended).
This is just... extremely underwhelming. They went from a narrative-driven ride retelling a classic story to a generic log ride with randomly-placed Princess and the Frog animatronics.
this ride could’ve been so much better if they had it play out like the movie, with an actual antagonist, a glowing shadow realm scene where the laughing place is, and more of the of movie soundtrack
It's insane how much better this POV is than Disney's! That said, still kinda disappointed with the new ride. It's beautiful but there's too many empty spots, where the original ride had very full scenes at every turn. Not a bad ride, but definitely not a perfect one.
I think you'll find it didn't this is way better, I'd rather have some dark spots but beautiful animatronics, this is way better than the 1990s sets and animatronics of splash
I know everybody’s rightfully disappointed here but one thing I truly don’t understand is the music choices? Like what does each song have to do with each moment? It truly just feels like an iPod shuffle 😭
it's interesting that considering this ride is supposed to be set after the movie, that they use most of the songs from the movie, which wouldn't make sense, especially hearing Ray singing "Going Down the Bayou" considering what happened to him in the movie. The only new song is at the end, which while it sounds good doesn't seem to particularly fit the ride's story. The whole ride is about finding musicians, not some spice, yet the latter is what Tiana sings about. The ride's message, I guess, is that you were the special 'spice' the party needed all along, that you being there is what made it perfect.
The usage of “Down in Old Orleans” and “Almost There” at the beginning made no sense and then they play Almost There AGAIN in the outdoor Zip area just to have a different song altogether in the actual Zip showroom. Also, did you notice none of the characters are actually singing the songs barring the finale?
It makes no sense because the original film had so much great music. Ray singing down the bayou, Facilier singing friends on the other side, mama odie singing dig a little deeper and Tiana finishing it off with that beautiful “dreams do come true in New Orleans”!! How did they get this so wrong??
@@Callmemrskilgore oh the movie has amazing music, but again this ride is supposed to be set after the movie, so it’s weird that it has so many songs from the movie, that made sense in the movie’s story but less so, if at all, in what’s supposed to be the ride’s story. “Going Down the Bayou” makes sense, though not with Ray singing it, and helps set the mood in that part of the ride, and even “Down in New Orleans” works to help set the mood at the start. The other songs just don’t really fit here, though “Friends on the Other Side” or a variation of it could have worked perfectly for the final lift hill and big drop, as many others I’ve seen comment would agree, though that would mean changing that second room, what was “Laughing Place” before, into an ‘other side’ voodoo dolls area, like a return of the Shadow Man kinda place. So maybe you set off down into the bayou with Tiana and Louis to find something for the big party, be it animal musicians or some special spice or whatever, heading down the river with a new rendition of “Going Down the Bayou” playing, but then you take a wrong turn and get separated from Tiana and Louis, and end up in a dark part of the bayou where a variation of “Friends on the Other Side” sung by the ghost of Dr. Facilier plays, and as you head up the lift hill they keep chanting “are you ready”, followed by Facilier’s laugh as you head down the big drop and splash at the bottom, where you’ve emerged from the dark part of the bayou and meet up with Mama Odie, who redirects you to the party at the end. So the ride’s end is still the same, but now there’s suspense going up the big hill again, and the payoff is maybe a bit more worth it.
That’s the strangest thing to me. Princess and the Frog is a really good movie with some really good songs. And they just kind of didn’t represent the movie at all.
Congratulations to all the imagineers! Impossible task to take New Orleans/Mardi Gras and make them boring and come up with an incoherent storyline from a film, but you did it!
I still stand by my opinion that they should’ve used the OG movie story for this ride. HOW COOL would it have been to hear friends from the other side play ominously in the tunnel leading to the big drop?!?
Charita Carter and Carmen Smith have destroyed yet another attraction. They should have had the lead for Fantasy Springs come back and retheme this ride, at least it would have been in more capable hands. If you don't know, Charita was lead for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway which is another disaster retheme.
A big misstep in the lead up to Epic Universe, IMO. And frankly, Tiana deserved better. There’s absolutely no excitement or tension before that (previously) iconic drop, which is a big metaphor for current imagineering, TBH. Disney want IP only but zero tension, peril, or conflict. Boring.
I'm a MASSIVE fan of P&TF but this isn't a great tribute. People didn't want this and Disney should have proved them wrong. Repetitive character animatronics of Tiana & Louis (which aren't that lifelike tbh) when they should've really based it on the film - allowing for Father, Dr Facilier, Ray & the crocodile hunters to all appear too.
The #1 rule in theme parks is: Whenever you retire a ride, whatever takes its place has to be just as good if not better than what it replaced. This is the TOTAL opposite! The ride has lost ALL of it's color, whimsy, and magic. This new ride is so dark and empty! There is SO much empty space from where they removed all of the other AA's from Splash. It's blatantly obvious Disney just didn't want to spend the money to create a worthy successor to Splash Mountain. If this was the plan all along they should have just demolished the entire ride and built something else. Disney REALLY missed the bar here! Sad but not at all surprised.
Not gonna lie, I was really hyped for this and I hoped they would do Tiana and her character justice, but this feels like a ride that was rushed due to time and budget constraints. The movie had the perfect villain, why not put him in the ride to add some much needed tension? The laughing place scene would've been a perfect spot to introduce him and have him be the reason you're turned into frogs. It would also give Tiana the opportunity to be the hero again. The figures are fantastic, but tweaking needs to be done for certain.
Apparently during the planning phase, it was decided to not use Facilier or any voodoo elements (at least in name) due to concerns of cultural sensitivity since it is a real religion that often gets poorly portrayed in pop culture. While a fair point on the surface, it makes absolutely zero sense because the entire plot of the original movie was based on voodoo, which leaves basically nothing of value to actually work with. It would be like trying to tell a Snow White story with no evil queen or poisoned apple; aside from standing around looking pretty, what else is there?
working with an existing ride system is always hard, but there is a lot of empty space here, particularly where the boats are held before each scene, also not a fan of the 'swamp water' but I understand it aligned to the theme, finale scene is nice but its not worth the wait I'm afraid
Okay, let me go ahead and say this, I think I found a way this could've been slightly better while sticking to a similar plot, BUT giving the ride some life and tension: Alright, for the first part of our journey where we enter the mountain, let's go ahead and spruce it up a bit, more lights, more visuals, put Dottie in, put Big Daddy in some scenes, make it seem like they're following us through the bayou, they can be the ride's slapstick if you will for the first portion. Maybe get a shot just like in the concept art of Naveen and Tiana on a boat together somewhere down the way, move a few pieces of land if need be. You can keep the musical animals, they're alright. Then, once we get to the first drop, rather than Tiana telling us to look high & low, perhaps the entrance to the party could be right behind her, "Alright all, let's get ya'll into that party and-" The noise of wind kicks up, as Guest turn to the first drop "Where ya'll going? Louis! Stop em!" Tiana would yell, Louis stands on the side, watching the log past "I can't! They goin' too fast!" Louis yells, before the log drops into the next part. "Oh boy!" "Louis! Where are they?" "They went down the stream!" "We gotta go get them!". From there on out, the bayou doesn't seem as bright anymore, a bit darker now, trees not seeming as friendly, as projections of shadows begin swirl around on the trees, as faint whispers begin to be heard "Friends on The Other Side...", perhaps even entering a voodoo cabin as they get closer towards the drop hill, with candles with green lined about, maybe a few voodoo dolls coming to life with green in their eyes. Maybe a Shiriki Utundu Easter Egg too, if you can do Idols & Curses in Tokyo, you can do it here too. Now we're onto Act 3, The Drop. As Guest come to the drop, they can begin to hear that faint chant "Bum... bum... bum... bum... bum..." & it gets faster "Bumbumbumbumbumbum! ARE YA READY?" As the music from the "Are Ya Ready? Reiprise" begins to fill the lift, how about installing a door at the top of the hill so they can project that giant Tiki thing that ate Dr.Falacier from the OG Movie, & only once guest get close, do we see Mama Odie wave her magic & say "Not today, baby!" before sending a bit of light at the Tiki, as the door burst open & guests take The Drop. The rest of the ride would be as is, with the acception that Tiana is dancing with Naveen at the party. There, I fixed the ride. All they had to do was turn the ex-Laughing Place into The Shadow Zone, The Other Side if you will. It wouldn't have been too hard. Am I an Imagineer now? Can I concept a ride? Or hey, better idea, DON'T CHANGE YOUR STAR ATTRACTIONS!

Looks pretty fun to me. But at 7:27, when we see Louis, his mouth is not moving with the dialogue, so I fear that the technical aspects may decline faster than we want.
Truly a letdown. I’m confused about the storyline, I thought we were searching for the “secret spice” but now we’re searching for a band? But they were still lazy enough to leave the finale song that goes with the original storyline. The inside scenes are absolutely horrible too. Sure there’s a few impressive animatronics, but that does nothing without an engaging storyline. The long stretches of deadspace in the dark while seeing an animatronic in the distance are disappointing. It’s a pass for me.
Ithe story it's basicly the end of the movie, everyone is partying with her cooking and restaurant. At some point u get turned into a frog by the witch lady and the drop turns u back into human. Then your dumbed into the area with her actual restaurant when u get off the ride. You'll notice your brain responds to this now and your more likely to go eat there.
4:57 the audio clearly says that they’re looking for musicians, the audio before it mentions the event is held in the bayou. Somebody can’t listen well.
This ride is so disappointing. It’s more upsetting when you imagine how much better it could have been with like no more than 30 seconds of Dr. Facilier in the laughing place section. I expect this thing to see some real interesting wait time fluctuation when it leaves the virtual queue era.
Splash mountain was whimsical and took you to a special place like when uncle Remus walked into the cartoon scene in the movie. It was magical this is not. Sorry
One begins the ride that was once Splash Mountain and finds that all the beautiful animals and their cute homes are gone and replaced with billboards of human commercialism. One enters the mountain and finds that it is now dark and all the happy animated animals in their bright world are gone, and then one soon finds the culprit, a giant fat crocodile that apparently ate them all. One follows some dark scary passages and finds an alcoholic old woman blind from diabetes and you fall into her delirium and immediately see her problem in the form of a giant liquor bottle, which leads to her liquor bottles scattered everywhere, even hanging from the ceiling. Then you drop into hell and pass a small party of drunken humans and then the damn nightmare ends and you get off the boat, with nothing memorable to take with you, not even the music.
I like that you mention the cute animals and their homes gone. Those little touches bought a whimsical feeling to the beginning of the ride Splash 💦 Mountain. So much was lost with this re-theme. I've given up on the whole Disney company which is sad because I grew up with it in the 60s. They've gone in directions I don't agree with.
As much as most people are saying that this ride is really bad, it is not hard to fix. All we need is to replace Mamma Odie with Dr. Facilier. Then the ride makes sense. It would be a story about how Tiana is looking for a band for a restaurant with our help, but then we get shrunk down so Mr. Voodoo thinks that we can't find a band. Then, after we find a band while we are tiny, he tries to take our souls, and then we break the curse by getting to the end of the ride and listening to the band. Granted, still a bit cliche, but that's a better plot than Voodoo lady shrinks us down because she wants to while we are on the mission of finding a band.
Huge miss not having Dr. Facilier come in and inject some peril, not having "are you ready" playing during the final lift is also a missed opportunity.

I know you say that jokingly, but I could see them pulling a "Journey into Your Imagination with Figment" on this ride. What I mean is, I hope they'll see some of the underwhelming reactions to this ride and take some time to not redo the whole thing like they did when first building the ride, but at least redo some elements, add in some more stuff, and change the storyline to be more exciting. At least, I hope this happens because to me this ride, in terms of new US Disney Parks rides, is a step in the right direction. It's just still disappointing overall. The ride as it is now should be the bare minimum of what we expect from Disney today.

This ride doesn't have the whimsical story Splash had. It was like to another land. It gave you the feeling when Uncle Remus walked into the cartoon world in the movie.
Im kind of disappointed honestly. There are parts that work like the ending scene and the good animatronics but they left out the green princess dress which is something I was most excited to see, the villain, and the sense of dread as your going up the final lift hill.
Bottom line: The Princess and the Frog deserve better, Tiana deserves better, the Guests deserve better, Splash Mountain deserved better, Uncle Remus deserved better, Brer Rabbit deserved better. I completely missed the story line, if there was one. A ride worthy of Rain Forrest Cafe is about right. Just random things, no story.
Former cast member from the original Splash Mountain in California here… I remember thinking back to 2010 (I had already left Disney to come back home and finish my college degrees) that The Princess and The Frog would make a wonderful replacement theme. (This was before “cancel culture” and everything else you hear thrown around.) The very real reality is that the children who visited the attraction didn’t have any connection to Song of the South; in fact, the only reason I had seen it was because I worked on the attraction. Most guests thought Briar Rabbit was Bugs Bunny. 🤦🏼♀️😂 The music from the movie and the story made for a wonderful theme update. Now with all of that said, I wish the attraction would have done a better job with the story telling. I think they should have stuck to using the movie’s story rather than what they went with. As so many are saying, this version does feel very lazy. Also, when seeing some of the animatronics and technology at the parks abroad, I’m struggling to understand why the animatronics now aren’t as incredible? Maybe they wanted to keep true to the ones in the original attraction, but those animatorics (at Disneyland) were from 1989. I’m all for the rebrand, and what they did is cute and fine, but I feel like they really missed an opportunity to make this attraction out of this world. 😕
This. I'll miss Splash Mountain, but I welcome the retheme, but Disney could've added more, Dr. Facilier, some smaller animatronics to fill in some blank spaces, etc.
Ya may as well have made an original Frontierland Themed ride, or better yet, how about a secondary Pirates ride retelling... I don't know, At Worlds End? They may as well have. Anything's better than this heap of Louis Hummus. I'd rather ride an It's A Small World clone with a Mt.Everest Section & get dropped 500 feet down Everest than see anymore of this ride. I'd rather ride Mr.Bones Wild Ride if it existed & spend the rest of my days going down a long track. I'm even willing to say I'd rather ride Excellerator at Knotts Berry Farm 10 times over than see anymore of this ride.
There's no story. It feels like "under the sea" but with reptiles. The animatronics and set look great, it just felt empty and out of place. Pictures of vegetables is lazy.
It's so dark and empty in some of these scenes. At least with Splash Mountain, no matter where you looked, something was happening. Now, riders are just being directed to look at what's under a spotlight and not to look anywhere else? Knew this redesign was never going to work out, and glad others are seeing it too.
Seriously. And the intense search for musicians in the bayou? Really?! Ya’ll are in New Orleans. Pretty sure you can get the music covered without donning jungle safari gear and digging for rodents. So many missed opportunities for a fart filled “story line.” Womp, womp.

Same way that people would be outraged if they depicted jesus as a bad guy and a villain in a cartoon, it's better not to mess with other's religion Although, I believe that they could just use a little creativity and create new simbols that aren't actual voodoo symbolism but resemble something similar to the movie material, that way everyone would be happy, this ride is just lots of wasted potential
So which version of this ride would make you the happiest at the ending? Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah always did it for me. I’ve been to the Magic Kingdom in Florida well over 100 times along with the one in California about 50 times. Splash Mountain was always the highlight of my day. Hearing the notes of, how do you do? Pretty good sure as you’re born! Over and over again to begin the ride and Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah to end the ride with a magic array of fun, storylines, and animals being animals.
Does not fit the layout at all. This would have been a good ride on its own. The theming does not fit the thrilling aspects at all. This is terrible. There is no tension or suspense and the drops seem pointless now
Splash Mountain was a huge shoe to fill. This did not deliver.

I was waiting for Dr. Facilier to appear and singing the words “Are you ready…” for the buildup to the drop. Missed that element of suspense to the ride. A few other elements from the movie I wish would have been added, but if I’m not critiquing too harshly, overall it was pretty cute. Just missing the suspense, but maybe it won’t be so scary for the littles.
I notice the mouth of the first Louis animatronic isn't moving. Hopefully that gets fixed and not just left like that, especially since it's the first animatronic you experience once you plunge into the bayou.
Last year I went to the Magic Kingdom and this ride was closed (Because it was under construction) and I really missed being able to ride Splash Mountain, but as I was watching the Big Drop from a distance I remember thinking...."Tiana's ride is going to be So Epic with Dr. Facilier and a bunch of Voodoo masks and shadows singing ...Are you Ready??? before the Big Drop!..." And now there is no Dr. Facilier....No Voodoo masks...No Shadows....No "Are you ready?" Song....Nothing 😥💔 ...I feel sad.... I know he dies by the end of the movie but he could have come back from "the other side" just to be a part of this ride 😟

Bringing him back wasn’t that hard. Shrek 4D brought an antagonist from the dead and it didn’t matter because the plot doesn’t need much logic as long as it’s engaging and thrilling.
It’s not a nostalgia thing for me, I understand that this ride needed to change, but the result itself just isn’t that impressive. I feel very similar to how I felt after riding cosmic rewind: no real story, no immersion, no true uniqueness. Leaves you with a lingering emptiness after you get off.
It looks okay. I do sort of wish the drop was scary. Like you falling down into “the other side” And shadows silhouettes following you up the mountain with the “are you reaaady!!” Lyrics playing lol. I like the animatronics. The songs are aiight. I Just know Disney could’ve done better with the story is all.
Much better ride POV than Disney themselves 👏🏼 That said, this ride is an incredible disappointment compared to Splash Mountain. WDI really let us down with this one and I can see this getting the Harmonius treatment in a matter of years. Very sad
Disney has now "Figmented"(ruined)Slash Mountain. I want to cry! Why is Disney so determined to erase all things classic Disney & replace it with a dry, no story, no magic overlay like this. At least have Tiana in her princess dress for one of the scenes. Joe Rohde, Bob Gurr save us. Disney, please start designing again with heart and a what would Walt and the nine old men think of what we have created here mindset.
It will be interesting to see how the first Tiana animatronic holds up to the Florida heat and humidity being in that lift tunnel open to the elements.
Tons of dead space. Forgettable music. Five or six advanced Animatronics that stand there dumbly until you reach their trigger points interspersed with cheaper, stiff early Disney Animatronics and some unexciting screens. No story or real creativity at all. Lots of character repetition. All in all its one and done.

Extremely disappointed in this update. It’s boring and has no storyline. Too many dark spaces and projections. I could do better with a bottle of whiskey while sitting in my bathtub than this stupid ride. This is an attraction I definitely will never ride.
I love Splash, and I enjoy parts of this too. But I keep getting hung up on how the dialogue feels forced and like it’s over explaining everything. It’s already missing a sense of conflict/adventure, so the dialogue is telling guests what emotions they should be feeling instead of the environment doing so. Also a bummer they removed the side splash jets on the drop. How did they make a log flume less log flume-y? :(
I read on instagram that they should have done Cuzco Topia water ride! That would have been fun! The hidden gem of Disney “Emperor’s New Groove”. Just saying. I honestly haven’t ridden this ride yet (Waiting for Disneyland version to open), but I’ll give it a shot. I will say nothing beats Splash Mountain for me though.
Thanks for this POV, which is much better than the official Disney one! The new animatronics and music are great, but the story is very lame compared to the Brea Rabbit story. So if I understand the new story correctly, Tiana is looking for musicians for her big party, and Lewis is helping her finding some in the Bayou. Then Mama Odie shrinks the visitors so we can also look for frog and insect musicians as well. Then Mama Odie conjures the visitors back to their original size and makes sure we get to the party fast, which means the fast big drop. And then the party with the new song. They could have done a better story by using the original movie story, and used Dr. Facilier to cross over to the Other Side (deep cave), and then Mama Odie rescuing the visitors. Would have been a much more compelling story. Still looking forward to ride this one day.
Disney dyes the water different colors for effect. Water on Jungle Cruise for instance is artificially colored. It’s clean because sometimes if the ride breaks down employees have to get into the water to help people off.
It's a story too repetitive at every corner for a 10 minute trip. It could be good for a Frozen Ever After type ride or for Rapunzel. but this is a definitive NO for Splash. And i miss the Villain. 😓
In a year the wait time for this will be lower than haunted mansion or buzz lightyear Sorry I had really high hopes for this but it isnt better than splash so it's a failure Can see them doing a complete re theme within 5 years and changing the story
What do you think of Tiana's Bayou Adventure?
I wish Disney kept the old ride and spent the money on a new ride instead.
They somehow managed to cheap out on this as well. Iger and co. need to go on a permanent trip to the Other Side.

I wish they had just followed the plot of the movie instead. Imagine Dr. Facilier and his spirit friends attacking the boats and sending you into the drop. It would've made for a much more interesting ride.
There's no story. There's no climax. There's no antagonist. There's no "adventure". It is completely creatively bankrupt.
Where is Dr Facilier in this ride? I know he’s supposed to be dead but I think that was an opportunity lost to have some excitement in the ride.
This is like the Direct to DVD sequel equivalent of a Disney Ride.

It's safe to assume the ride is post film. But I would love to see one based on the film like the Rapunzel and Frozen rides in Tokyo Disney.

I don't think that would make much sense. The song is sung twice in the movie. Once for the catalyst for the movie, and once for the climax. Facilier sings it for the catalyst, but not for the climax. It would have to be based more around his death than him turning Naveen into a frog. But I agree in general, I think it could've been incredible

Wow, this makes no sense. So…you went to basically Whole Foods and Tiana was there and said she needs to find some musicians who are also animals. So she asks you to go do that in the swamp. I guess that’s a ride. But then Mama Odie shrinks you or turns you into a frog for no reason. Maybe the point was that in order to find the frog musicians you had to become a frog? But then you are big again in two minutes. And then you go to some kind of party. My biggest question is why Disney doesn’t want to use the outfits and Tiana images from her movie. It’s like Galaxy’s Edge not wanting to use actual Star Wars characters. Maybe this is a rights payment residuals issue? They create stuff just for in-park use so they don’t have to pay the people who did the original Tiana stuff?

The vegetable section made me think I clicked on a Living with the Land POV for a minute.
Firstly your POV video is much better than the one Disney officially uploaded.
I am noticing a lot of technical glitches this time. Those must explain the cuts in the version Disney released. But you seemed to stall for unusually long at the top of the first drop, and then Louis' mouth isn't moving when we first meet him.
Now we're stuck outside the finale scene for an abhorrently long time. Then after all that you're apparently rushed through the finale scene which has the most to look at by a long shot.
When the plot was first explained I thought it sounded decent if not a bit vanilla. But the execution is lacking. I thought we were going to find musicians for the band but right around the first corner and we've already found a complete band...so much for exploring the bayou and meeting little different critters along the way. Other than the (static) armadillo, they're all just thrown at us.
I don't understand the removal of all the critters. I thought the bayou would be filled with them dancing and enjoying the music. Why can't there still be possums dropping down from the ceiling and critters all over?
Have changes already been made because I could have sworn Louis said something like "How low can we go?" not "How's this?"
Impressive animatronics aside, many of the critter animatronics seem extremely basic and lifeless.
Didn't Mama Odie say something about making a"big splash" at the party? Are there multiple dialogue tracks? Maybe the tracks have a few phrases to avoid repeating since it's a slow moving ride.
The big drop just plops you down into...nothing. No music. Weird.They could have decorated this whole area for Madi Gras.
The finale scene composition isn't great. It just feels crowded but not grand. The lack of forced perspective I think. A Mardi Gras float or something with movement is needed.
Final thoughts: Where is the drama? Where is the whimsy? Why is Tiana now Dora the Explorer?
This is pretty much Navi river journey with a drop.
The ride queue can’t seem to decide if it exists in the real world or the cartoon world of the source material. Having cartoon photos next to a real life kitchen and larder is jarring (no pun intended).
This is just... extremely underwhelming. They went from a narrative-driven ride retelling a classic story to a generic log ride with randomly-placed Princess and the Frog animatronics.
this ride could’ve been so much better if they had it play out like the movie, with an actual antagonist, a glowing shadow realm scene where the laughing place is, and more of the of movie soundtrack
It's insane how much better this POV is than Disney's! That said, still kinda disappointed with the new ride. It's beautiful but there's too many empty spots, where the original ride had very full scenes at every turn. Not a bad ride, but definitely not a perfect one.
I think you'll find it didn't this is way better, I'd rather have some dark spots but beautiful animatronics, this is way better than the 1990s sets and animatronics of splash
I feel the same way too. I wouldn’t call it the worst, but it does need improvement. The WORST one is Stitch’s Great Escape.
Seems like a let down. A ride without a Villain or danger seems so off. Walt always had two big elements Good and Evil, then Good wins in life.

I know everybody’s rightfully disappointed here but one thing I truly don’t understand is the music choices? Like what does each song have to do with each moment? It truly just feels like an iPod shuffle 😭
it's interesting that considering this ride is supposed to be set after the movie, that they use most of the songs from the movie, which wouldn't make sense, especially hearing Ray singing "Going Down the Bayou" considering what happened to him in the movie. The only new song is at the end, which while it sounds good doesn't seem to particularly fit the ride's story. The whole ride is about finding musicians, not some spice, yet the latter is what Tiana sings about. The ride's message, I guess, is that you were the special 'spice' the party needed all along, that you being there is what made it perfect.
The usage of “Down in Old Orleans” and “Almost There” at the beginning made no sense and then they play Almost There AGAIN in the outdoor Zip area just to have a different song altogether in the actual Zip showroom.
Also, did you notice none of the characters are actually singing the songs barring the finale?
It makes no sense because the original film had so much great music. Ray singing down the bayou, Facilier singing friends on the other side, mama odie singing dig a little deeper and Tiana finishing it off with that beautiful “dreams do come true in New Orleans”!! How did they get this so wrong??
@@Callmemrskilgore oh the movie has amazing music, but again this ride is supposed to be set after the movie, so it’s weird that it has so many songs from the movie, that made sense in the movie’s story but less so, if at all, in what’s supposed to be the ride’s story. “Going Down the Bayou” makes sense, though not with Ray singing it, and helps set the mood in that part of the ride, and even “Down in New Orleans” works to help set the mood at the start.
The other songs just don’t really fit here, though “Friends on the Other Side” or a variation of it could have worked perfectly for the final lift hill and big drop, as many others I’ve seen comment would agree, though that would mean changing that second room, what was “Laughing Place” before, into an ‘other side’ voodoo dolls area, like a return of the Shadow Man kinda place.
So maybe you set off down into the bayou with Tiana and Louis to find something for the big party, be it animal musicians or some special spice or whatever, heading down the river with a new rendition of “Going Down the Bayou” playing, but then you take a wrong turn and get separated from Tiana and Louis, and end up in a dark part of the bayou where a variation of “Friends on the Other Side” sung by the ghost of Dr. Facilier plays, and as you head up the lift hill they keep chanting “are you ready”, followed by Facilier’s laugh as you head down the big drop and splash at the bottom, where you’ve emerged from the dark part of the bayou and meet up with Mama Odie, who redirects you to the party at the end. So the ride’s end is still the same, but now there’s suspense going up the big hill again, and the payoff is maybe a bit more worth it.
That’s the strangest thing to me. Princess and the Frog is a really good movie with some really good songs. And they just kind of didn’t represent the movie at all.
Bring back Splash Mountain
Congratulations to all the imagineers! Impossible task to take New Orleans/Mardi Gras and make them boring and come up with an incoherent storyline from a film, but you did it!

Charita Carter and Carmen Smith have destroyed yet another attraction. They should have had the lead for Fantasy Springs come back and retheme this ride, at least it would have been in more capable hands. If you don't know, Charita was lead for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway which is another disaster retheme.

A big misstep in the lead up to Epic Universe, IMO. And frankly, Tiana deserved better. There’s absolutely no excitement or tension before that (previously) iconic drop, which is a big metaphor for current imagineering, TBH. Disney want IP only but zero tension, peril, or conflict. Boring.
I'm a MASSIVE fan of P&TF but this isn't a great tribute. People didn't want this and Disney should have proved them wrong. Repetitive character animatronics of Tiana & Louis (which aren't that lifelike tbh) when they should've really based it on the film - allowing for Father, Dr Facilier, Ray & the crocodile hunters to all appear too.
How can you NOT have masks singing “ARE YOU READY? BUM BUM BUM BUM! ARE YOU REEEEADY?!” On your way up to the drop?
The #1 rule in theme parks is: Whenever you retire a ride, whatever takes its place has to be just as good if not better than what it replaced. This is the TOTAL opposite! The ride has lost ALL of it's color, whimsy, and magic. This new ride is so dark and empty! There is SO much empty space from where they removed all of the other AA's from Splash. It's blatantly obvious Disney just didn't want to spend the money to create a worthy successor to Splash Mountain. If this was the plan all along they should have just demolished the entire ride and built something else. Disney REALLY missed the bar here! Sad but not at all surprised.
Not gonna lie, I was really hyped for this and I hoped they would do Tiana and her character justice, but this feels like a ride that was rushed due to time and budget constraints. The movie had the perfect villain, why not put him in the ride to add some much needed tension? The laughing place scene would've been a perfect spot to introduce him and have him be the reason you're turned into frogs. It would also give Tiana the opportunity to be the hero again. The figures are fantastic, but tweaking needs to be done for certain.
Apparently during the planning phase, it was decided to not use Facilier or any voodoo elements (at least in name) due to concerns of cultural sensitivity since it is a real religion that often gets poorly portrayed in pop culture. While a fair point on the surface, it makes absolutely zero sense because the entire plot of the original movie was based on voodoo, which leaves basically nothing of value to actually work with. It would be like trying to tell a Snow White story with no evil queen or poisoned apple; aside from standing around looking pretty, what else is there?

working with an existing ride system is always hard, but there is a lot of empty space here, particularly where the boats are held before each scene, also not a fan of the 'swamp water' but I understand it aligned to the theme, finale scene is nice but its not worth the wait I'm afraid
Okay, let me go ahead and say this, I think I found a way this could've been slightly better while sticking to a similar plot, BUT giving the ride some life and tension:
Alright, for the first part of our journey where we enter the mountain, let's go ahead and spruce it up a bit, more lights, more visuals, put Dottie in, put Big Daddy in some scenes, make it seem like they're following us through the bayou, they can be the ride's slapstick if you will for the first portion. Maybe get a shot just like in the concept art of Naveen and Tiana on a boat together somewhere down the way, move a few pieces of land if need be. You can keep the musical animals, they're alright. Then, once we get to the first drop, rather than Tiana telling us to look high & low, perhaps the entrance to the party could be right behind her, "Alright all, let's get ya'll into that party and-" The noise of wind kicks up, as Guest turn to the first drop "Where ya'll going? Louis! Stop em!" Tiana would yell, Louis stands on the side, watching the log past "I can't! They goin' too fast!" Louis yells, before the log drops into the next part. "Oh boy!" "Louis! Where are they?" "They went down the stream!" "We gotta go get them!". From there on out, the bayou doesn't seem as bright anymore, a bit darker now, trees not seeming as friendly, as projections of shadows begin swirl around on the trees, as faint whispers begin to be heard "Friends on The Other Side...", perhaps even entering a voodoo cabin as they get closer towards the drop hill, with candles with green lined about, maybe a few voodoo dolls coming to life with green in their eyes. Maybe a Shiriki Utundu Easter Egg too, if you can do Idols & Curses in Tokyo, you can do it here too. Now we're onto Act 3, The Drop. As Guest come to the drop, they can begin to hear that faint chant "Bum... bum... bum... bum... bum..." & it gets faster "Bumbumbumbumbumbum! ARE YA READY?" As the music from the "Are Ya Ready? Reiprise" begins to fill the lift, how about installing a door at the top of the hill so they can project that giant Tiki thing that ate Dr.Falacier from the OG Movie, & only once guest get close, do we see Mama Odie wave her magic & say "Not today, baby!" before sending a bit of light at the Tiki, as the door burst open & guests take The Drop. The rest of the ride would be as is, with the acception that Tiana is dancing with Naveen at the party.
There, I fixed the ride. All they had to do was turn the ex-Laughing Place into The Shadow Zone, The Other Side if you will. It wouldn't have been too hard. Am I an Imagineer now? Can I concept a ride? Or hey, better idea, DON'T CHANGE YOUR STAR ATTRACTIONS!

Truly a letdown. I’m confused about the storyline, I thought we were searching for the “secret spice” but now we’re searching for a band? But they were still lazy enough to leave the finale song that goes with the original storyline. The inside scenes are absolutely horrible too. Sure there’s a few impressive animatronics, but that does nothing without an engaging storyline. The long stretches of deadspace in the dark while seeing an animatronic in the distance are disappointing. It’s a pass for me.
100% agree -- there is no story that makes sense.
Ithe story it's basicly the end of the movie, everyone is partying with her cooking and restaurant. At some point u get turned into a frog by the witch lady and the drop turns u back into human. Then your dumbed into the area with her actual restaurant when u get off the ride. You'll notice your brain responds to this now and your more likely to go eat there.

This ride is so disappointing. It’s more upsetting when you imagine how much better it could have been with like no more than 30 seconds of Dr. Facilier in the laughing place section. I expect this thing to see some real interesting wait time fluctuation when it leaves the virtual queue era.
Splash mountain was whimsical and took you to a special place like when uncle Remus walked into the cartoon scene in the movie. It was magical this is not. Sorry

One begins the ride that was once Splash Mountain and finds that all the beautiful animals and their cute homes are gone and replaced with billboards of human commercialism. One enters the mountain and finds that it is now dark and all the happy animated animals in their bright world are gone, and then one soon finds the culprit, a giant fat crocodile that apparently ate them all. One follows some dark scary passages and finds an alcoholic old woman blind from diabetes and you fall into her delirium and immediately see her problem in the form of a giant liquor bottle, which leads to her liquor bottles scattered everywhere, even hanging from the ceiling. Then you drop into hell and pass a small party of drunken humans and then the damn nightmare ends and you get off the boat, with nothing memorable to take with you, not even the music.
I like that you mention the cute animals and their homes gone. Those little touches bought a whimsical feeling to the beginning of the ride Splash 💦 Mountain. So much was lost with this re-theme. I've given up on the whole Disney company which is sad because I grew up with it in the 60s. They've gone in directions I don't agree with.
The true backstory exposed.
As much as most people are saying that this ride is really bad, it is not hard to fix. All we need is to replace Mamma Odie with Dr. Facilier. Then the ride makes sense. It would be a story about how Tiana is looking for a band for a restaurant with our help, but then we get shrunk down so Mr. Voodoo thinks that we can't find a band. Then, after we find a band while we are tiny, he tries to take our souls, and then we break the curse by getting to the end of the ride and listening to the band. Granted, still a bit cliche, but that's a better plot than Voodoo lady shrinks us down because she wants to while we are on the mission of finding a band.
Huge miss not having Dr. Facilier come in and inject some peril, not having "are you ready" playing during the final lift is also a missed opportunity.
I’m disappointed. Tiana looks like her mom and not like Tiana at all. It makes no sense to come up with this weird confusing story and new music because the original film had so much to take from & truly great music. I know you say that jokingly, but I could see them pulling a "Journey into Your Imagination with Figment" on this ride. What I mean is, I hope they'll see some of the underwhelming reactions to this ride and take some time to not redo the whole thing like they did when first building the ride, but at least redo some elements, add in some more stuff, and change the storyline to be more exciting. At least, I hope this happens because to me this ride, in terms of new US Disney Parks rides, is a step in the right direction. It's just still disappointing overall. The ride as it is now should be the bare minimum of what we expect from Disney today.

This ride doesn't have the whimsical story Splash had. It was like to another land. It gave you the feeling when Uncle Remus walked into the cartoon world in the movie.
Im kind of disappointed honestly. There are parts that work like the ending scene and the good animatronics but they left out the green princess dress which is something I was most excited to see, the villain, and the sense of dread as your going up the final lift hill.
Bottom line: The Princess and the Frog deserve better, Tiana deserves better, the Guests deserve better, Splash Mountain deserved better, Uncle Remus deserved better, Brer Rabbit deserved better.

Former cast member from the original Splash Mountain in California here… I remember thinking back to 2010 (I had already left Disney to come back home and finish my college degrees) that The Princess and The Frog would make a wonderful replacement theme. (This was before “cancel culture” and everything else you hear thrown around.) The very real reality is that the children who visited the attraction didn’t have any connection to Song of the South; in fact, the only reason I had seen it was because I worked on the attraction. Most guests thought Briar Rabbit was Bugs Bunny. 🤦🏼♀️😂 The music from the movie and the story made for a wonderful theme update.
Now with all of that said, I wish the attraction would have done a better job with the story telling. I think they should have stuck to using the movie’s story rather than what they went with. As so many are saying, this version does feel very lazy. Also, when seeing some of the animatronics and technology at the parks abroad, I’m struggling to understand why the animatronics now aren’t as incredible? Maybe they wanted to keep true to the ones in the original attraction, but those animatorics (at Disneyland) were from 1989.
I’m all for the rebrand, and what they did is cute and fine, but I feel like they really missed an opportunity to make this attraction out of this world. 😕
This. I'll miss Splash Mountain, but I welcome the retheme, but Disney could've added more, Dr. Facilier, some smaller animatronics to fill in some blank spaces, etc.

Ya may as well have made an original Frontierland Themed ride, or better yet, how about a secondary Pirates ride retelling... I don't know, At Worlds End? They may as well have. Anything's better than this heap of Louis Hummus. I'd rather ride an It's A Small World clone with a Mt.Everest Section & get dropped 500 feet down Everest than see anymore of this ride. I'd rather ride Mr.Bones Wild Ride if it existed & spend the rest of my days going down a long track. I'm even willing to say I'd rather ride Excellerator at Knotts Berry Farm 10 times over than see anymore of this ride.

There's no story. It feels like "under the sea" but with reptiles. The animatronics and set look great, it just felt empty and out of place. Pictures of vegetables is lazy.

Technically I think the Louis butt-in-the-air animatronic used to be the Briar Bear butt-in-the-air animatronic.
It's so dark and empty in some of these scenes. At least with Splash Mountain, no matter where you looked, something was happening. Now, riders are just being directed to look at what's under a spotlight and not to look anywhere else? Knew this redesign was never going to work out, and glad others are seeing it too.

Although, I believe that they could just use a little creativity and create new simbols that aren't actual voodoo symbolism but resemble something similar to the movie material, that way everyone would be happy, this ride is just lots of wasted potential
The first Louis animatronic already has a broken mouth. Not sure these electric actuators are going to hold up.
I think it’s scary to watch people defend a corporation when the product is clearly sub-par. Pixie Dust is a helluva drug.
So which version of this ride would make you the happiest at the ending? Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah always did it for me. I’ve been to the Magic Kingdom in Florida well over 100 times along with the one in California about 50 times. Splash Mountain was always the highlight of my day. Hearing the notes of, how do you do? Pretty good sure as you’re born! Over and over again to begin the ride and Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah to end the ride with a magic array of fun, storylines, and animals being animals.
Does not fit the layout at all. This would have been a good ride on its own. The theming does not fit the thrilling aspects at all. This is terrible. There is no tension or suspense and the drops seem pointless now

Yes they’re in technical rehearsal so some of the effects may not be working, I’m sure he’ll be going on opening day later this month.
Splash Mountain was a huge shoe to fill. This did not deliver.
I was waiting for Dr. Facilier to appear and singing the words “Are you ready…” for the buildup to the drop. Missed that element of suspense to the ride. A few other elements from the movie I wish would have been added, but if I’m not critiquing too harshly, overall it was pretty cute. Just missing the suspense, but maybe it won’t be so scary for the littles.
I notice the mouth of the first Louis animatronic isn't moving. Hopefully that gets fixed and not just left like that, especially since it's the first animatronic you experience once you plunge into the bayou.
Confusing story line and looks pieced together. Some cute moments…. But what the heck are they trying to tell us?

Not impressed, they took out the fun on the ride. Also the big drop isn't part of the "story" at all.
Last year I went to the Magic Kingdom and this ride was closed (Because it was under construction) and I really missed being able to ride Splash Mountain, but as I was watching the Big Drop from a distance I remember thinking...."Tiana's ride is going to be So Epic with Dr. Facilier and a bunch of Voodoo masks and shadows singing ...Are you Ready??? before the Big Drop!..." And now there is no Dr. Facilier....No Voodoo masks...No Shadows....No "Are you ready?" Song....Nothing 😥💔 ...I feel sad.... I know he dies by the end of the movie but he could have come back from "the other side" just to be a part of this ride 😟

Tbf, there's no Facilier because this takes place after the movie and he died in the movie. Should've picked the timeline of the movie instead of after
Bringing him back wasn’t that hard. Shrek 4D brought an antagonist from the dead and it didn’t matter because the plot doesn’t need much logic as long as it’s engaging and thrilling.
It’s not a nostalgia thing for me, I understand that this ride needed to change, but the result itself just isn’t that impressive. I feel very similar to how I felt after riding cosmic rewind: no real story, no immersion, no true uniqueness. Leaves you with a lingering emptiness after you get off.

And shadows silhouettes following you up the mountain with the “are you reaaady!!” Lyrics playing lol. I like the animatronics. The songs are aiight. I Just know Disney could’ve done better with the story is all.
Much better ride POV than Disney themselves 👏🏼 That said, this ride is an incredible disappointment compared to Splash Mountain. WDI really let us down with this one and I can see this getting the Harmonius treatment in a matter of years. Very sad

Disney has now "Figmented"(ruined)Slash Mountain. I want to cry! Why is Disney so determined to erase all things classic Disney & replace it with a dry, no story, no magic overlay like this. At least have Tiana in her princess dress for one of the scenes. Joe Rohde, Bob Gurr save us. Disney, please start designing again with heart and a what would Walt and the nine old men think of what we have created here mindset.

It seems like they are dispatching boats a little too fast because it seems like it has to be stopped on almost every lift
There are only a few people per boat so it should go smoother once they are filling the boats

It will be interesting to see how the first Tiana animatronic holds up to the Florida heat and humidity being in that lift tunnel open to the elements.
Tons of dead space. Forgettable music. Five or six advanced Animatronics that stand there dumbly until you reach their trigger points interspersed with cheaper, stiff early Disney Animatronics and some unexciting screens. No story or real creativity at all. Lots of character repetition. All in all its one and done.
Why go on it at all? Sounds like a POS.

Just noticed Louis mouth wasn’t moving in the beginning. Plus when they went down into the Laughing Place section, they went early and missed the lighting cue
Extremely disappointed in this update. It’s boring and has no storyline. Too many dark spaces and projections. I could do better with a bottle of whiskey while sitting in my bathtub than this stupid ride. This is an attraction I definitely will never ride.

I love Splash, and I enjoy parts of this too. But I keep getting hung up on how the dialogue feels forced and like it’s over explaining everything. It’s already missing a sense of conflict/adventure, so the dialogue is telling guests what emotions they should be feeling instead of the environment doing so.
Also a bummer they removed the side splash jets on the drop. How did they make a log flume less log flume-y? :(
Finally, a fair criticism of the ride.
I read on instagram that they should have done Cuzco Topia water ride! That would have been fun! The hidden gem of Disney “Emperor’s New Groove”. Just saying. I honestly haven’t ridden this ride yet (Waiting for Disneyland version to open), but I’ll give it a shot. I will say nothing beats Splash Mountain for me though.

Thanks for this POV, which is much better than the official Disney one! The new animatronics and music are great, but the story is very lame compared to the Brea Rabbit story.
So if I understand the new story correctly, Tiana is looking for musicians for her big party, and Lewis is helping her finding some in the Bayou. Then Mama Odie shrinks the visitors so we can also look for frog and insect musicians as well. Then Mama Odie conjures the visitors back to their original size and makes sure we get to the party fast, which means the fast big drop. And then the party with the new song.
They could have done a better story by using the original movie story, and used Dr. Facilier to cross over to the Other Side (deep cave), and then Mama Odie rescuing the visitors. Would have been a much more compelling story. Still looking forward to ride this one day.

Was the water that muddy looking before? I don't want to be soaked with it.
Disney dyes the water different colors for effect. Water on Jungle Cruise for instance is artificially colored. It’s clean because sometimes if the ride breaks down employees have to get into the water to help people off.

It's a story too repetitive at every corner for a 10 minute trip. It could be good for a Frozen Ever After type ride or for Rapunzel. but this is a definitive NO for Splash. And i miss the Villain. 😓
In a year the wait time for this will be lower than haunted mansion or buzz lightyear
