    Just wanted to say how nice it is to see Quinn and not just her hands. I'm a software engineer and amateur machinist and her videos have taught me a ton about machining. I'm glad I found this video.

    I can identify with all that Quinn is saying. My career was as a program developer on mainframe systems (long before PCs became dominant) and I always introduced myself as a computer programmer (software engineer hadn't been coined yet). Being competent at my job wasn't enough to get a raise. To get more money meant getting promoted and you could only go so high as a code developer. So, like Quinn, I moved into a supervisory role, then lower management. The pay was better, but the job satisfaction wasn't. However, I never lost sight of where I came from and always tried to make it better for the lower level employees. Great interview which answered a lot of questions for me.

    Quinn is my Hero! I’m a 58 year old female hobby machinist. Went to trade school in 1984 finished 1st in the class of all men. Won first in the state competition and still couldn’t buy a job. Bad timing I guess. My mind is always making something. I was finally able to buy myself a lathe and mill. My husband is not interested and I find myself starving for someone to share my work with. My girlfriends have no clue and I guess the guys are intimidated. 🤷🏻‍♀️.

    • @whyamipod
      @whyamipod  2 года назад +2

      Bad timing then, but do you reckon the timing is better now? I genuinely don't have connections with machine shops to ask. I've always looked at employees like tools; whichever one accomplished the task the best is the one I use. I suppose I've been in IT my entire career, which is vastly different that machining...

    Regarding the Peter Principle (promoted until incompetent) which was mentioned…
    I kept climbing the technical “ladder” at my workplace until I found myself in a position that I could only excel at if I worked in a manner that made me feel miserable. And if I worked in a manner where I felt less miserable I found the quality of my work to be unacceptable. So I asked for and was granted a demotion (including less pay) back to where I had come from and everybody was happy again. I consider myself lucky to be able to and proud that I realized I needed to for everyone’s benefit.

    The price of video games has stayed roughly the same since the 90s, but the revenue has increased exponentially. When Diablo shipped it was the first video game ever to sell 50,000 copies on the weekend of release. In 2022, even a game that is complete rubbish will generate more revenue than a good quality game from the 90s. Wages have not increased at the same pace as revenues, so game companies are lucrative (unless management wastes money right and left).

    My career was in engineering. I designed power supplies, battery chargers, and amplifiers. At different times I was a) a direct employee, b) contract engineer, c) under my own 1099 as an hourly consultant, and d) under contract with statement of work. The main problem in engineering management is trust. It is too hard to manage an engineer if you cannot understand what he is doing. So I set about being easy to manage. I reported daily what I a) did, b) what I was doing, c) what I was going to do. This was in low tech terms of a) personel, b) budget, c) shedulue, d) risk. Because I was so easy to manage, I was kept when smarter, more productive, and cheaper consultants were let go.

      @@whyamipod I totally understand that. I bumped into her channel and this interview through an odd route, that kind of amazes me that it took so long. There is enough overlap of interests that it's kind of odd that it didn't happen six or seven years ago. That said, the more of her videos and videos of her that I see, the more I am convinced that she doesn't have a clue as to how really talented she is, not just in her areas of interest, but across the entire population. This interview in particular demonstrates how much more qualified she is to be a CEO of an extremely large corporation than well over 90% of the folks who have those jobs. We need to get better at recognizing and elevating this kind of talent. Often the best leaders are the one's who react to the news that they have been promoted by declaring that they really don't want the job.

      @@charlemagnesclock This rings so true. It's often those that don't want it that would be most suited for the spot. I'm just glad she takes us along for the ride with her :)

This should be reserved for comments relating to the video and its content. I'm just saying that Quinn is an astounding talent with unusually deep engineering knowledge and experience in four distinct disciplines that are all relevant to aerospace. She combines that with proven leadership and teaching abilities, and a sense of humility combined with respect for history and tradition. I would love to see her as a CEO. The world would be a better place.

    The discussion around the 47th minute of how RUclips is a reaction to “reality” TV resonates so much with me. So many of us want to learn, want to enjoy the reverse of entropy and reality truly feels like entropy happening so often. Things fall apart, wait just kidding. It all worked out. The drama in Forged in Fire is what led me to watching blacksmiths that kept their mouths shut or were encouraging and made beautiful things. Love it.

    "Welcome back" seems presumptuous. It annoys me when I hear it.
    I am new to the Blondihacks channel and am still trying to figure if each intro is new. It seems that way, or the editing is seamless. Speaking of editing, the amount of effort that goes into editing is obviously significant - and it pays off. That, along with capturing good, well planned footage. Rather than confuse, the well placed custom phrases indicate a sense of humor, founded on obviously high intelligence.

    • @whyamipod
      @whyamipod  2 года назад

      I suppose it does seem presumptuous, but I like so many have been coming back for ages, so she's definitely welcoming me back LOL.
      I agree on the second point; the level of editing is off the charts. Especially when you take into consideration she's a one woman show: develop the idea, do the logistics of getting materials, shoot, edit, upload, moderate. It's pretty staggering.

    • @rickoshea8138

      @@whyamipod My remarks about "welcome back" is aimed at channels that use it. They are in effect stating that the viewer is assumed to be a subscriber. If not, that viewer must be defective - or that is how it comes across.
      I have watched a few dozen of Blondihacks' videos. The urge to fast forward hardly ever occurs to me. This, while I shout "get to the point" at so many others video makers. So, the efficient flow of useful and interesting info she presents, in tasty easily digestible chucks, is very much appreciated. The witty remarks are just cream on top.

      I repeated the above compliment to Blondihacks, and it was deleted. Also, now I am shadow banned on her channel.

    Adjust for inflation... Who dafuq is going to pay $100+ for a video game, (bc that's what they would cost) when a consoles & computers cost $500 to $3000+. The answer is, NO ONE, that's who. And that's why game prices have stayed around $60 to $70 for so long.
    These Game companies know this and are smart enough to realize that increasing the prices for games is only going to hurt them in the long run bc no one is going buy them.
    Besides these companies make MILLIONS and sometimes BILLIONS of dollars off of these games and garbage overpriced DLC they sell us but we never truly own. Fact is they can afford to pay these devs more but they choose not to and that's on them and devs who aren't fighting to get paid more, don't try to tie this back to "oh they don't make enough off the games to pay these employees more" bc it's an over simplification and it utter bullshite!
