I don't know many things about life, but as a Christian, I testify that the hearts of many Muslim friends are pure, good. I'm lucky to have had great and generous friends in the middle east, what an experience. (Matthew 24:36): “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” This means that NO ONE in the heavens, including the Holy Spirit knows the date of the day of Judgement, but Father! This concept is the same as the concept in Islam, no one has that knowledge, except for Allah Almighty. In fact, Islam is the only Abrahamic (besides Christianity) religion that accepts Jesus as a prophet and believing in him is mandatory. I strongly recommend you to read Qu’ran, as we are the same Abrahamic religion and we call to worship only One God, the same God of Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, in fact you will gain a lot more detailed knowledge about the God, angels or prophets and it will never confuse you

Growing up in the US, it was unthinkable to me that my government would ever condone torture. We were "the good guys". This happened in my teen years and I've always questioned whether we were really "the good guys" ever since.

I'm a US veteran. I've never really been particularly proud about that. It was just a small part of my life. However hearing stories like this kind of makes me feel ashamed of it. I'm not quite sure what to do with that. I certainly got some thinking to do. 1 thing I know is this man is not now nor has he ever been my enemy. His story has moved me to tears.
I will tell you about a horrible experience that I'm going through everyday. I am from Pakistan and I was 19 or 20 years old and there was a family in my neighborhood and the guy had four kids and then went to the tribal area for a wedding in their relatives and a US drone bombed the house. The next day we heard that the guy had lost two kids and when I saw the half burned and body parts of those small kids. The father would pick the detached hands and feet and would clean and kiss those small fingers. Now I have a three years old son. It's so hard to look at his hands. I can't hold my tears when I kiss his hands. This is my first time to share this experience. I hate wars, weapons, army and politicians. I wish at least my son won't see any torture or things in his life.
Unfortunatelly David, the USA is obsessed with guns, war and bad guys. Hard to know what it will do in the next few years, hopefully young Americans will challange the need for the next inevitable war.
This is probably one of the most gripping, unsettling and moving interviews I've ever seen. Not dramatic or sentimental at all, just sincere, empathetic, and thoughtful. I feel small next to this man. He is so humble, kind and friendly. Hearing about the magnitude of injustice he was dealt, and seeing the equanimity and grace he carries himself with despite all that is honestly breathtaking. It's hard to fathom the darkness that a person would have to be possessed by in order to see him as any type of villain, let alone one who could be brutalized and deprived of life in such a callous, pointless way. His smile melts my jaded, stoic heart. God only knows what nightmarish existence could be still happening for others who didn't make it out of that kafkaesque hellhole and all the others like it that we may never even know about in our lifetime. I'm so grateful for this window on the insanity of the 'war on terror'. I hope it is seen by many people. It needs to be. Thanks to both of these great men. May justice await the torturers.

If, when, Our Creator chooses to reveal to him that all pain associated with his past can be, through Christ, washed away, annihilated in the blink of an eye, Mohammedou will be released from any pain associated with his memories. Would the world really be served at this juncture if he were to forget and not reveal the atrocities? He is well on his way to understanding the greatest truth, I would venture to guess. Mohamedou has a great sense of humor that keeps poking through in an interview that is otherwise about dark and scary events. Dude straight up survives modern day holocaust treatment and cracks jokes about relatable shit that happened along the way. What a fking legend.

this one is fascinating for its connection to al queda when they were allies in the fight against russians. One doesnt go off to war and bond with their band of brothers as he did in the early 90s and drop all communication with them after its over. Thats the sense I get from all I've read about him, he severed with al queda after helping in the fight against russia but then likely continued with the personal connections he made in afghanistan. Unfortunately, some of those connections may have been involved with 9/11 planning as the 90s decade came to a close, though not him.There must be other Slahi's as well, maybe dozens, if they werent killed by the russians (or later by the americans).
I haven’t seen my children for 9 months and I cried almost every day, his mother died not see him released from prison. I feel so small compared to this guy. Peace and forgiveness is what we all should aim for. My love to everyone regardless of their faith, race or colour.

Unfortunately this IS America and has been since its inception. That doesn't mean that there aren't really good people trying to change it. Some of those people are what Mr. Peterson pejoratively calls Social Justice Warriors, but often these are people who see injustices like this and are trying to change it (admittedly sometimes not using the best strategy). Please look up Kalief Browder's story and the cash bail system which a lot of organizations are trying to end to see just ONE way how this happens to people in America on a regular basis.

It left an impression on me when he spoke about being faced with death that the only thing he cared about was whether he was nice to others. That is such a good reminder to take with us.
He is broken now. If all people saw were how nice, smiley and friendly this guy was, they are missing a key consequence of this story. That a man was destroyed by other men.
I don’t know if he can only feel safe alone or just with minimum people around… I know he said he feels better alone but earlier in the interview he stated that he can only fall asleep with someone next to him (watching him).

Just under 800 people have been kept in Guantanamo bay prison, with half being released according to the untrustworthy American government. I imagine many of the innocent prisoners America captured have lost their minds and there is no way back for them. Don’t forget them - they’re heroes too.
Beduin culture in the middle east tend to produce people with clear minds capable of learning information and skills far better than the average urban people. It also produces plenty of natural story tellers and poets because their lives are dependent upon paying attention to the environment around, they learn to pick the small details in life that most other people miss. Mr. Mohammed is a charismatic story teller and I greatly enjoyed listening to him. I ask Allah that he grants him and all people who’ve been wronged, joy and salvation in this life and the afterlife.

I'm Canadian and I would like to say my country did what it usually does which is pass the buck and come out smelling like roses. We failed this man and others by not standing up to the Americans and doing a proper investigation then deciding on its merits how to justly proceed. Also I was just graduating University when 911 happened. I remember the talk around enhanced interrogation. I absolutely knew it was torture. I remember academics being silenced regarding this issue. I remember later on being told that while Guantanamo likely held non terrorists that they could not be released as being there had likely radicalized them (giant red flag). I remember the American media showing how cushy the prison was. Hey they even got a complimentary Koran. I remember studying world war 2. I remember saying I would have stood up against the Nazis. I remember thinking I would have stood against Japanese internment camps. Well I had a chance during this time and I did nothing. Bitter pill to swallow even though it was not specifically my country doing the abuse. Not even Nazi war criminals endured what Mohamedou Ould Slahi did. To those that actually protested and tried my respect. For the rest of us maybe get our shit together and my sincere apology for my and our complete failure to maintain my and our principles in the face of fear.
Also thanks to Jordan for bringing cases like this to my attention I always learn something from watching these videos even if it is something I don't like.

I feel compelled to comment just to say how much I admire Jordan. I've listened to his lectures and podcast as well as his daughter's podcast for years now. I'm a 30 year old guy that's been homeless and suffering from severe anxiety for 7 years now. Although I've been on methadone since 2015 and clean I have yet to clean my room up. Jordan's compassion with intelligence and no nonsense approach to fixing things has always been alluring to me. When things are down I try and imagine what Jordan would say to me in that moment. I have no family and feel like he gives me an idea of a father figure/ therapist/ mentor/ friend when I need it most. I haven't missed a podcast yet. I wish to one day be able to get into school to study maths as that and the physical sciences has always been my interest and truly is my motivation to get up everyday. I pray that in time I become more confident, less awkward, and in a place where I'm a bit more content and surrounded by positive people I can show my love to. Thank you Dr. Peterson for being a guiding light to me. It's meant a lot. You've helped more people than I'm sure you can fathom, and that are in situations that are more unique and varied than anyone can comprehend. Thanks man. Thanks.

Listening to his story was hard enough, had to shed tears few times when he shares the stories about torture. Living with such experience yet with beautiful smiles shows how strong this man is. He's indeed a believer.

This is what the world sees your army as, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, Bargam, And the invasion of so many countries. Many Christians forgive as well. Try reading about Jim Elliot and Corrie Ten Boom just two people among many who have forgiven. FORGIVENESS is the main message of the gospels. The Bible is a Jewish book to be understood in that culture within during that time. In the court of law, a person can be forgiven by a relative but the LAW still holds that person accountable and punishment is administered. It's so strange how this man started out loving to be around people in his youth and was afraid to be alone but after Guantanamo they broke him down to the point where people made him uncomfortable. So sad how they could destroy someone's livelihood like that. So glad you got out and young enough to enjoy your freedom into your future.

Yes this is the most extreme form of breaking a human, but this country and its UK cousins have broken millions in fact billions of people in lesser more disguised forms of torture every single day .
I grew up in India and it was common knowledge that anyone whom the US deemed tied to 9/11 was tortured. Stories of torture survivors were turned into award winning movies in India. When I moved to the US and told my American peers, they were offended and said that America would never do such a thing. Everyone thought I was fabricating these stories. It took me a while but it finally hit me in high school that the government has made every effort to make sure citizens don't find out about it, that's why my friends didn't believe me growing up. Glad stories like Ould Slahi are out on the table now.
I feel so ashamed that an innocent man could have been held captive for so long, so much of his life taken away and is still able to forgive. What an amazing example of what a person can endure. Hope the rest of his life he can live in peace and enjoy life. Amazing man!
As usual, I was notified (on my phone), that J.P.’s new episode is ready to view. And as usual, I proceeded to listen, while working on another driftwood piece….. Only 15 minutes into it, I could no longer do anything else, but to listen closely and watch. Wow, I am truly overwhelmed, and speechless. I don’t own a television set, and my movie watching experience, is very limited. But, as soon as this podcast was over, I watched the trailer of this movie, and then I read and watched everything that I was able to find (on line), about this incredible human being…. He is definitely an angel, who decided to come down to earth, to show us the true power of Love. I can’t stop crying… His journey is incredible, and so powerful. Only because of such human beings, such angels, like Mohamedou, we (the human race), still have a chance of survival. Thank you.

Podcasts like this are why I watch everything Jordan Peterson posts. This was very moving and eye-opening. I'm a very conservative Christian who is fairly opinionated and stubborn. Before watching this I was someone who really gave little to no thought to Guantanamo and just assumed everyone there is guilty and deserves whatever they get. Didn't care. I'm embarrassed to admit this. But honestly in my busy, (and I must admit privileged) life I don't spend much time thinking about Guantanamo. But this guy's story was so moving and convicting. It has changed me. Thank you Jordan for the interview and for posting it. I am so impressed with his conclusion from his experiences and his choice to be a better person as a result. Wow. Kind of reminds me of Viktor Frankl and his experiences and conclusions from his concentration camp experiences. There are good and bad people in all groups.
It’s so wonderful to see a person who’s had their viewpoint expanded from a partisan line of thinking, and extended their consideration and care to someone they may have ignored or condemned. I’ve been there, too, though in a different ideology and condemning different people, it is I think much the same. I’m still in the process of lifting that, and hold plenty of biases and resentment I need to work on. It’s very powerful to witness this person interviewed being able to be forgiving in spite of what he’s been through. Shows us we can do the same. 🙏
HOW DID YOU MANAGE THAT? How the hell would you avoid even contemplating it after having it shoved in your face for 20 years. The back and forth over "Enhanced interrogation" lasted years and still comes up from time to time. Hell I hate the people in there and I don't want them tortured, how the hell did you manage not to look up for two decades?

@@macfunkey Pain is relative -- and everyone's tolerance -- ability to fully process it- whether it's purely inner and emotional/ mental or outer and physical varies--- It's hard to compare Jordan and this person---- both have experienced extreme 'pain'--- but it's like comparing apples to oranges--- different in terms of form and duration-- but both equally valid
@@TheSwitch87 good observation. Both of these men I believed struggled with depression and were on anti-depression medication. I also recall that Peterson has mentioned often that depression runs in his family.
This. My life is nothing like his, at all, but in so many ways, I feel myself falling apart day to day. Seeing how genuinely happy and kind this guy can seem, after the horrors he has endured...... I have hope. If this guy can still be happy, I don't think any of us have excuse.
What moved me most (so many things moved me about this interview) was his description of being in the hotel alone in Germany. To be 17/18 years old and never have been alone in a room speaks volumes. How many times throughout our childhood had we been alone in our room “bored”??? Meanwhile, this man (and millions of others) have never gotten to experience a night alone in a room? Alone with their thoughts, alone to do whatever it is they wanted to do. Mind blowing.

Wonderful interview and very sad. This is probably the first engagement of Jordan Peterson with a believing/practising Muslim. I hope he engages in a critical discussion with scholars from the mainstream Islamic tradition in the future.

Nonetheless, Dr Peterson has engaged with thinkers from a range of diverse traditions and have entered into a genuinely honest dialogue with them on a host of issues. Besides Islam itself, there's so much that can be discussed with Muslim scholars who present their views from a traditional Islamic perspective. Consider Roger Scruton's discussions with Hamza Yusuf on conservatism. So much of what Dr Peterson has discussed over the years, be it on political, social and gender matters are regular discussions among Muslims. It seems not right to ignore thinkers from this major tradition.

What hit me hard was that this brother went through every kind of torture we can imagine and in the end when he accepted all the charges, they performed two lie detector tests on him! Why could not they have done that from the beginning! Therefore, it shows that this prison was an experiment for the USA. At first, I thought that there is no way I'm gonna finish an almost 3 hour podcast. About 20 mins in, I was hooked. His story was so horrifyingly vivid. Like I was watching a movie in my head as he continued telling the story. Very sad to live "virtually" what he had gone through, yet very happy that the end was not so much worse. Dr. JP, you are a great listener, and an amazing interviewer. Great content as always and I am huge fan.

This is a riveting interview. Dr. Peterson, who tends to speak more than his guests, were unusually subdued. Mohamedou Ould Salahi managed to transcend his torturous experience to arrive at profound insight about the dangers of unchecked government power. He seems to have achieved a state of grace even though he still suffers from PTST. What a shameful waste such a remarkable and talented person was wrongly imprisoned and tortured for 16 years.
Yes, Canadian’s and American’s might do well to be acutely aware about the dangers of unchecked government spending and power! Of all of the JBP podcasts I've listened to (and I have listened to a lot), this is the most horrific. To see an innocent man punished and tortured for 14 years, and to learn that the US was the worst offender in the inhuman treatment of this man, made me cry. It also is the only podcast where Jordan just...let the man talk. Anyone who doubts that the seeds of darkness lie in all of our souls should listen to this podcast with wonder and horror.
Innocent until proven guilty is a legal judgment not a moral one. Through out the interview, he down played his connections with various high profile terrorists and the too often concurrence of himself and multiple terror attacks/attempts. He also forgot to mention when he cooperated, that is when the intels he provided led to the capture of true terrorists, he got books, a television, a PlayStation, and an old laptop, on which he killed time playing chess and watching DVDs. Jordan asked the correct question "If you didn't do that, how can you cooperate?" His mistake was to assume this to be a rhetorical question. OJ Simpson is legally not guilty, but for sure, he has some exciting stories to tell.

It's absolutely heartbreaking what we did to this man, and to so many more like him I'm sure..😢......and his demeanor is so touching to me. That he's not angry and resentful. His story really makes me realize how much I take for granted. Puts my problems in perspective.
I have never cried so much watching anything in my life. I have no words to describe this. One lesson I learn is just love no matter what. Love is the only thing that can free us.
Love is a very missunderstood concept, I think, because to be able to love 'something' or 'someone' you must know this 'something or someone' because otherwise how can you love it if you dont know it. If you love someone but dont know them, then you love your view of the someone, and not the actual someone, so In my view, love = knowledge.
This man is amazing. So related with the way the Dictadura here in Argentina operated, but i just wanted to point at how good Peterson was at letting him talk and supporting him while he walked through those traumatic times, and how grateful he is of having a chance to talk to Peterson. Tough conversation but full of joy and healing and forgiveness
I really don't have the attention span required for such a long format. This interview had me stuck to my chair. At times holding back tears. Most of us would probably be crushed by treatment Mohamedou endured. As a christian there are things I can learn from this man (about forgiveness and attitude to others).
I admire how Dr. Peterson asks these dark and difficult questions to simply understand the person in front of him, to know what their experience is like. This is so important for us to understand each other, and to understand ourselves.
I love how JP is doing his best to listen. He has his finger on his lips, you can tell he really wants to interject but doesn’t. Thank you Mr. Peterson for being a great psychologist.

Dear Jordan B. Peterson, I just wanted to say thank you. I'm 20 years old and I study psychology. I found out about you when I felt very lost, I was about 15 at the time. However, your books and youtube videos gave me motivation, meaning, and power to start searching for answers to all of my questions. You impacted my life immensely, and 5 years later I still question everything I see and try to be the best version of myself, even though I have to admit it's very hard to make the right choices. I don't think that I'll ever be able to express how grateful I am to you. But you were like a father figure to me. Im trying to sort an apartment and workplace. I have a long way to go because having a roommate who creates chaos is not something ive been able to fix.
After all of that, the smile on his face when he explained his relationship with that guy and that they are godfathers to each other’s children… this episode left me with a lot to think about. No intent to insult anyone, but that line of Jesus (pbuh) “no one comes to the father except through me” actually contradicts a lot of concepts in Bible (which we, as Muslim, believe to be a Holy Scripture, but through time, wrong translation and intentionally corruption) became twisted, but the Word of God shouldn’t be confusing anyone, right?
It should not, because it is the right path and in the Bible it is said:
(1 Corinthians 14:33) “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” Holy Trinity, 3 parts of 1 God, it is all confusion from the start! Three will never be One not mathematically nor logically.
There is also nowhere in the Bible where Jesus says he is the God and people should worship him. In fact, if Jesus is the God (or a part of it) then he is omniscient, all-knowing and all-hearing, but how come that omniscient God doesn’t know when will the Day of Judgement come?
(Matthew 24:36):
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
This means that NO ONE in the heavens, including the Holy Spirit knows the date of the day of Judgement, but Father! This concept is the same as the concept in Islam, no one has that knowledge, except for Allah Almighty. In fact, Islam is the only Abrahamic (besides Christianity) religion that accepts Jesus as a prophet and believing in him is mandatory.
I strongly recommend you to read Qu’ran, as we are the same Abrahamic religion and we call to worship only One God, the same God of Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, in fact you will gain a lot more detailed knowledge about the God, angels or prophets and it will never confuse you

I'm a US veteran. I've never really been particularly proud about that. It was just a small part of my life. However hearing stories like this kind of makes me feel ashamed of it. I'm not quite sure what to do with that. I certainly got some thinking to do. 1 thing I know is this man is not now nor has he ever been my enemy. His story has moved me to tears.

I will tell you about a horrible experience that I'm going through everyday. I am from Pakistan and I was 19 or 20 years old and there was a family in my neighborhood and the guy had four kids and then went to the tribal area for a wedding in their relatives and a US drone bombed the house. The next day we heard that the guy had lost two kids and when I saw the half burned and body parts of those small kids. The father would pick the detached hands and feet and would clean and kiss those small fingers. Now I have a three years old son. It's so hard to look at his hands. I can't hold my tears when I kiss his hands. This is my first time to share this experience. I hate wars, weapons, army and politicians. I wish at least my son won't see any torture or things in his life.

This is probably one of the most gripping, unsettling and moving interviews I've ever seen. Not dramatic or sentimental at all, just sincere, empathetic, and thoughtful. I feel small next to this man. He is so humble, kind and friendly. Hearing about the magnitude of injustice he was dealt, and seeing the equanimity and grace he carries himself with despite all that is honestly breathtaking. It's hard to fathom the darkness that a person would have to be possessed by in order to see him as any type of villain, let alone one who could be brutalized and deprived of life in such a callous, pointless way. His smile melts my jaded, stoic heart. God only knows what nightmarish existence could be still happening for others who didn't make it out of that kafkaesque hellhole and all the others like it that we may never even know about in our lifetime. I'm so grateful for this window on the insanity of the 'war on terror'. I hope it is seen by many people. It needs to be. Thanks to both of these great men. May justice await the torturers.

He invites people, many of them not that well-known, to share their stories and ideas in this platform; which in turn introduces them to people that didn't know them in the first place. That's how communication works, and it is also obvious that people won't watch 2h42min of an interview if they don't like the interviewee, just because they like the interviewer.

this one is fascinating for its connection to al queda when they were allies in the fight against russians. One doesnt go off to war and bond with their band of brothers as he did in the early 90s and drop all communication with them after its over. Thats the sense I get from all I've read about him, he severed with al queda after helping in the fight against russia but then likely continued with the personal connections he made in afghanistan. Unfortunately, some of those connections may have been involved with 9/11 planning as the 90s decade came to a close, though not him.There must be other Slahi's as well, maybe dozens, if they werent killed by the russians (or later by the americans).
I haven’t seen my children for 9 months and I cried almost every day, his mother died not see him released from prison. I feel so small compared to this guy. Peace and forgiveness is what we all should aim for. My love to everyone regardless of their faith, race or colour.

Beduin culture in the middle east tend to produce people with clear minds capable of learning information and skills far better than the average urban people. It also produces plenty of natural story tellers and poets because their lives are dependent upon paying attention to the environment around, they learn to pick the small details in life that most other people miss.
Mr. Mohammed is a charismatic story teller and I greatly enjoyed listening to him. I ask Allah that he grants him and all people who’ve been wronged, joy and salvation in this life and the afterlife.

I'm Canadian and I would like to say my country did what it usually does which is pass the buck and come out smelling like roses. We failed this man and others by not standing up to the Americans and doing a proper investigation then deciding on its merits how to justly proceed. Also I was just graduating University when 911 happened. I remember the talk around enhanced interrogation. I absolutely knew it was torture. I remember academics being silenced regarding this issue. I remember later on being told that while Guantanamo likely held non terrorists that they could not be released as being there had likely radicalized them (giant red flag). I remember the American media showing how cushy the prison was. Hey they even got a complimentary Koran. I remember studying world war 2. I remember saying I would have stood up against the Nazis. I remember thinking I would have stood against Japanese internment camps. Well I had a chance during this time and I did nothing. Bitter pill to swallow even though it was not specifically my country doing the abuse. Not even Nazi war criminals endured what Mohamedou Ould Slahi did. To those that actually protested and tried my respect. For the rest of us maybe get our shit together and my sincere apology for my and our complete failure to maintain my and our principles in the face of fear.
Also thanks to Jordan for bringing cases like this to my attention I always learn something from watching these videos even if it is something I don't like.

I’m Canadian too. I concur… after watching this equally heart wrenching and amazingly inspiring video of such a brave innocent soul, these atrocities are just yet another reason why I’m utterly disgusted at the corrupt Canadian government. They are not fit to be in their current position.
I feel compelled to comment just to say how much I admire Jordan. I've listened to his lectures and podcast as well as his daughter's podcast for years now. I'm a 30 year old guy that's been homeless and suffering from severe anxiety for 7 years now. Although I've been on methadone since 2015 and clean I have yet to clean my room up. Jordan's compassion with intelligence and no nonsense approach to fixing things has always been alluring to me. When things are down I try and imagine what Jordan would say to me in that moment. I have no family and feel like he gives me an idea of a father figure/ therapist/ mentor/ friend when I need it most. I haven't missed a podcast yet. I wish to one day be able to get into school to study maths as that and the physical sciences has always been my interest and truly is my motivation to get up everyday. I pray that in time I become more confident, less awkward, and in a place where I'm a bit more content and surrounded by positive people I can show my love to. Thank you Dr. Peterson for being a guiding light to me. It's meant a lot. You've helped more people than I'm sure you can fathom, and that are in situations that are more unique and varied than anyone can comprehend. Thanks man. Thanks.

Listening to his story was hard enough, had to shed tears few times when he shares the stories about torture. Living with such experience yet with beautiful smiles shows how strong this man is. He's indeed a believer.
Part of his story that touched me the most, is his mother. Living by it & dying in that shame while he was unable to see her or attend her burial.

The Bible is a Jewish book to be understood in that culture within during that time. In the court of law, a person can be forgiven by a relative but the LAW still holds that person accountable and punishment is administered. It's so strange how this man started out loving to be around people in his youth and was afraid to be alone but after Guantanamo they broke him down to the point where people made him uncomfortable. So sad how they could destroy someone's livelihood like that. So glad you got out and young enough to enjoy your freedom into your future.

Yes this is the most extreme form of breaking a human, but this country and its UK cousins have broken millions in fact billions of people in lesser more disguised forms of torture every single day .
I grew up in India and it was common knowledge that anyone whom the US deemed tied to 9/11 was tortured. Stories of torture survivors were turned into award winning movies in India. When I moved to the US and told my American peers, they were offended and said that America would never do such a thing. Everyone thought I was fabricating these stories. It took me a while but it finally hit me in high school that the government has made every effort to make sure citizens don't find out about it, that's why my friends didn't believe me growing up. Glad stories like Ould Slahi are out on the table now.
I feel so ashamed that an innocent man could have been held captive for so long, so much of his life taken away and is still able to forgive. What an amazing example of what a person can endure. Hope the rest of his life he can live in peace and enjoy life. Amazing man!

Wow, I am truly overwhelmed, and speechless. I don’t own a television set, and my movie watching experience, is very limited. But, as soon as this podcast was over, I watched the trailer of this movie, and then I read and watched everything that I was able to find (on line), about this incredible human being….
He is definitely an angel, who decided to come down to earth, to show us the true power of Love.

Podcasts like this are why I watch everything Jordan Peterson posts. This was very moving and eye-opening. I'm a very conservative Christian who is fairly opinionated and stubborn. Before watching this I was someone who really gave little to no thought to Guantanamo and just assumed everyone there is guilty and deserves whatever they get. Didn't care. I'm embarrassed to admit this. But honestly in my busy, (and I must admit privileged) life I don't spend much time thinking about Guantanamo. But this guy's story was so moving and convicting. It has changed me. Thank you Jordan for the interview and for posting it. I am so impressed with his conclusion from his experiences and his choice to be a better person as a result. Wow. Kind of reminds me of Viktor Frankl and his experiences and conclusions from his concentration camp experiences. There are good and bad people in all groups.
I had the same experience as you in watching this.
It’s so wonderful to see a person who’s had their viewpoint expanded from a partisan line of thinking, and extended their consideration and care to someone they may have ignored or condemned. I’ve been there, too, though in a different ideology and condemning different people, it is I think much the same. I’m still in the process of lifting that, and hold plenty of biases and resentment I need to work on. It’s very powerful to witness this person interviewed being able to be forgiving in spite of what he’s been through. Shows us we can do the same. 🙏

The back and forth over "Enhanced interrogation" lasted years and still comes up from time to time. Hell I hate the people in there and I don't want them tortured, how the hell did you manage not to look up for two decades?

What moved me most (so many things moved me about this interview) was his description of being in the hotel alone in Germany. To be 17/18 years old and never have been alone in a room speaks volumes. How many times throughout our childhood had we been alone in our room “bored”??? Meanwhile, this man (and millions of others) have never gotten to experience a night alone in a room? Alone with their thoughts, alone to do whatever it is they wanted to do. Mind blowing.

Wonderful interview and very sad. This is probably the first engagement of Jordan Peterson with a believing/practising Muslim. I hope he engages in a critical discussion with scholars from the mainstream Islamic tradition in the future.

Nonetheless, Dr Peterson has engaged with thinkers from a range of diverse traditions and have entered into a genuinely honest dialogue with them on a host of issues. Besides Islam itself, there's so much that can be discussed with Muslim scholars who present their views from a traditional Islamic perspective. Consider Roger Scruton's discussions with Hamza Yusuf on conservatism. So much of what Dr Peterson has discussed over the years, be it on political, social and gender matters are regular discussions among Muslims. It seems not right to ignore thinkers from this major tradition.

What hit me hard was that this brother went through every kind of torture we can imagine and in the end when he accepted all the charges, they performed two lie detector tests on him! Why could not they have done that from the beginning!

At first, I thought that there is no way I'm gonna finish an almost 3 hour podcast. About 20 mins in, I was hooked. His story was so horrifyingly vivid. Like I was watching a movie in my head as he continued telling the story. Very sad to live "virtually" what he had gone through, yet very happy that the end was not so much worse. This is a riveting interview. Dr. Peterson, who tends to speak more than his guests, were unusually subdued. Mohamedou Ould Salahi managed to transcend his torturous experience to arrive at profound insight about the dangers of unchecked government power. He seems to have achieved a state of grace even though he still suffers from PTST. What a shameful waste such a remarkable and talented person was wrongly imprisoned and tortured for 16 years.
Yes, Canadian’s and American’s might do well to be acutely aware about the dangers of unchecked government spending and power! Power is so intoxicating and the ‘love of money is the root of all evil.’ I am thankful that my gracious Lord, King of Kings, opens my eyes and helps me with these things, although He continues.
It is certainly not a waste if we can learn from him and his experiences. What an amazing human.

My heart breaks for this poor man. What a beautiful and resilient soul he is. He has every right to be resentful and hateful towards the world but he is not. I truly admire his strength and resolve!!
Why the world? Why not just the guys who did that to him or the US?
He has the wisdom to understand that resentment would only harm him.
This is because of his strong belief in Allah ..Allah He does not waste the reward of the doers of good. He also compensates for everything bad, as long as he is patient and trusts in God

Of all of the JBP podcasts I've listened to (and I have listened to a lot), this is the most horrific. To see an innocent man punished and tortured for 14 years, and to learn that the US was the worst offender in the inhuman treatment of this man, made me cry. It also is the only podcast where Jordan just...let the man talk. Anyone who doubts that the seeds of darkness lie in all of our souls should listen to this podcast with wonder and horror.
Canada tortures the living hell out of it's own citizens too, including little kids. Been going on for decades here.
Innocent until proven guilty is a legal judgment not a moral one. Through out the interview, he down played his connections with various high profile terrorists and the too often concurrence of himself and multiple terror attacks/attempts. He also forgot to mention when he cooperated, that is when the intels he provided led to the capture of true terrorists, he got books, a television, a PlayStation, and an old laptop, on which he killed time playing chess and watching DVDs. Jordan asked the correct question "If you didn't do that, how can you cooperate?" His mistake was to assume this to be a rhetorical question. OJ Simpson is legally not guilty, but for sure, he has some exciting stories to tell.

It's absolutely heartbreaking what we did to this man, and to so many more like him I'm sure..😢......and his demeanor is so touching to me. That he's not angry and resentful. His story really makes me realize how much I take for granted. Puts my problems in perspective.
I have never cried so much watching anything in my life. I have no words to describe this. One lesson I learn is just love no matter what. Love is the only thing that can free us.

Love is a very missunderstood concept, I think, because to be able to love 'something' or 'someone' you must know this 'something or someone' because otherwise how can you love it if you dont know it. If you love someone but dont know them, then you love your view of the someone, and not the actual someone, so In my view, love = knowledge.
This man is amazing. So related with the way the Dictadura here in Argentina operated, but i just wanted to point at how good Peterson was at letting him talk and supporting him while he walked through those traumatic times, and how grateful he is of having a chance to talk to Peterson. Tough conversation but full of joy and healing and forgiveness

I really don't have the attention span required for such a long format. This interview had me stuck to my chair. At times holding back tears. Most of us would probably be crushed by treatment Mohamedou endured. As a christian there are things I can learn from this man (about forgiveness and attitude to others).

I admire how Dr. Peterson asks these dark and difficult questions to simply understand the person in front of him, to know what their experience is like. This is so important for us to understand each other, and to understand ourselves.
I love how JP is doing his best to listen. He has his finger on his lips, you can tell he really wants to interject but doesn’t. Thank you Mr. Peterson for being a great psychologist.

Dear Jordan B. Peterson, I just wanted to say thank you. I'm 20 years old and I study psychology. I found out about you when I felt very lost, I was about 15 at the time. However, your books and youtube videos gave me motivation, meaning, and power to start searching for answers to all of my questions. You impacted my life immensely, and 5 years later I still question everything I see and try to be the best version of myself, even though I have to admit it's very hard to make the right choices. I don't think that I'll ever be able to express how grateful I am to you. But you were like a father figure to me. After all of that, the smile on his face when he explained his relationship with that guy and that they are godfathers to each other’s children… this episode left me with a lot to think about.
