I love Baby Come Back! After this I probably going to buy some more albums as I am not aware of the rest of their catalogue! After the last great Pablo Cruise show, I bought some CDS, thanks to Pete & Grant (Curse of the Collector ha!). Pablo Cruise is totally unknown here in The Netherlands so I might be the only Dutch guy that has their CDs now!

Love Player. I think in terms of yacht rock, Gino Vinelli is my favorite, mainly because he and his brother Joe,played some amazing high energy jazz rock fusion on most of their 70s albums. Especially on Brother to Brother and Mardi Gras.

@2:00, I dated a guy named Mike, of whom lived in Virginia. And, the real thing i loved about this dating experience was that, he knew of all these record shows. The only way I could contact him was via beeper. Somehow, the record shows information went to him. Now, he was quite younger than I, and, I met him through a Washington Post Newspaper personal section where he was interested in meeting an older woman. His reasoning on this was because he loved the band 'Led Zeppelin'. He wanted to seriously date a woman of whom grew up in the time period. Though, he lied to me. he told me he was 30 years old, and, well, he was only 21 years old.

That's the only reason I even know about this band. The Bold and the Beautiful was a massive hit in Finland in the early 1990s. Ronn Moss came here the first time in the mid-90s and I think has many Finnish friends. Based on a quick Google search, Player albums are very hard to find here, though.

Wow, Come On Out -> Baby Come Back, holey moley what juicy 70’s greatness! First time hearing Melanie, what a beauty! Let’s throw in Every Which Way amazing! So awesome, thank you! From the first Player record. Really sophisticated, love the guitar harmonies and vocal harmonies, and songwriting craft, all exceptional! Cancellation another scorcher!
Then moving to their second record, the opening Let Me Down Easy has sweet vocal harmonies and lovely melody, and track 2 Love In The Danger Zone has great melodic lead guitar, before going back to 70’s rock sweetness! I Just Wanna Be With You another stunner! Forever a complete borrowing of Lido Shuffle from Boz Scaggs 1976 fantastic record Silk Degrees but still fun! Prisoner of your love additional awesome melodic yacht rock, really great guitar work and creativity found in keys and tight rhythm section make it hypnotic. Closing Wait Until Tomorrow lovely samba chant at the end compelling. I still think the first record is a tiny bit better, but it’s hard to measure lol!

PLAYER was a good band, not great, good. But I will say this...
"Baby Come Back" is one of the catchiest, best produced, excellent singles of the mid to later 1970s. And it is the best thing Player ever did. Silver Lining, Love In The Danger Zone and Melanie are all good as well
---> GRANT, you are on CRACK if you think "This Time Im In it For Love" is better than "Baby Come Back"!
Honestly, man, just chill down a bit. I was enthusiastic about this music (along w/Pablo Cruise, LRB, Bob Welch, Firefall, etc.) back in the late 70s, and made collections in the early 90s. It's nice to see your excitement now, but you should've been this exuberant at least 20 years ago. Still, any time is a good time.
The GROOVE on Baby Come Back is a flat out "stone groove." One of the finest. One that sticks in your mind & gets sampled quite a bit due to its brilliance. "This Time
..," while a decent/okay to good song, does NOT come NEAR to "Baby Come Back" in quality or in tight, memorable musical moments. It's a total, "Hey, they want us to make another hit....but we don't have one...okay, well, just come up with something" kinda track.
*And the lyrics of "Baby Come Back" are far superior as well. It's emotional and gets under your skin. The other tune is just kinda "meh... who realiy cares."
So, thumbs up to your enthusiasm, and a huge thumbs down to your choice of song.
Btw, I'm a hard rock guy first. And then funk, soul, prog, etc. But this mellow, easy going cool music of the great 1970s is special as well.
I'll just say this, don't go into A&R. Because choosing that quasi-half assed tune as superior to the brilliant "Baby Come Back" would definitely get your ass ffired.

River North label was formerly owned by actress Crystal Bernard (of the TV series "Happy Days" & "Wings") which she also did 2 country albums "The Girl Next Door" in 1994 & "Don't Touch Me There" in 1996. Also Peter Cetera "One Clear Voice" (also on River North CD) did a duet with Crystal "I Wanna Take Forever Tonight" in 1995!! Also Jim Messina also did a duet with Crystal, the remake of Loggins & Messina 1973 song "Watching The River Run" (which was the name of the CD) in 1996.

Not to be confused with fusion classic Players of course...I own about a dozen Player tunes from 1977-81. They were OK, a little too commercial/smooth for my taste, overall just not enough 'oomph'/attack. "Silver Lining" & "Take Me Back" rock. This episode follows the Pablo Cruise one - I do like Player more (as PC basically didn't do anything for me - I suspect if you loved PC there's a good chance you like Player too). As far as rankings go, their first two for me are far & away their best. Some of it's decent AOR more than Yacht Rock. Probably the debut by a nose as their top album. The record starts out pretty strong with the first four tunes, then kinda fizzles for me. Except when I relistened to this album I quite liked "Cancellation" - quite possibly my fave Player tune. From the 2nd one the track "Wait Until Tomorrow" gives me ARS vibes...Then I'd call a 3-way tie between Room With A View/Spies Of Life/Too Many Reasons (one interesting track per). I don't have Lost in Reality so can't say anything about that one...
Adult Contempo? Check✔Most of this just isn't anything I reach for very often, maybe when I'm trying to fall asleep & can't - ahh those 'relaxed rhythms'!😎...Cringing a little at the Steely Dan/Thin Lizzy comparisons, they're such better bands. Still holding out for that future Bread episode!

Great supporting cast on both = Jim Gordon, Dean Parks, Steve Lukather, Lee Sklar, Jim Horn & Tom Scott (and one of the guitarists Mike Deasy even released an album called Friar Tuck/Friar Tuck And His Psychedelic Guitar way back in '67).
