The Jets/Jags game Thursday night doesn't surpass this as the worst game I ever saw, but it conjured up a lot of the same feelings and made me search RUclips to find this Giants/Cards debacle. And here it is! Forty years later the stench of this game is still fresh! It's hilarious reading other's memories of disgust. Amazing! I remember thinking how right it was it ended in a tie because neither team deserved a win. Also, it was a Monday Night Football game at a time when there wasn't football on Sunday and Thursday nights too. So I really looked forward to them.
Ironically, the Giants made the playoffs the following year in '84 only because O'Donoghue missed a last second FG against the Redskins in the final game of the season.
In today's NFL, he would have been gone the next day, but he didn't finally get cut until he blew the FG in Washington that cost the Cardinals a trip to the playoffs.
No more Washington Redskins. No more NFL tie games. But plenty of Knee downs and a Black Anthem. NFL can go to hell.. Done watching it. I bet NFL won't even let anyone post vintage Redskins games on RUclips. So they can blur it out on NFL network. Just like Vince McMahon does with old WWF matches on WWE network
Seahawks and 49ers game should have ended up in tie. Never see another tie game on Monday night football. Nor will there be another tied game in NFL the next 20 years. It all rigged.
@@DiddyKatt Detroit, Michigan area get another 8 inch snowstorm ( like we had yesterday, Most in November since 1984) before we see another tied game in NFL occur. Even with global warming and HAARP weather modification in play.
I'm a Cardinals fan. I watched this game at a frat house while I was in college with a bunch of Giants fans. O'Donahue should have been cut the next day. Maybe they could have found a competent kicker. This clown even missed an extra point in week 1 of the next season basically costing the Cards a playoff spot.
Neil O'Donoghue was definitely one of the worst regular kickers in the NFL during the late 70s up to the mid 80s. I mean there were worse guys but they didn't hang around for as long as he did. In 1983 he went just 7 out of 15 on field goals between 18 and 40 yards. Pitiful
That's nothing. I remember having the over at 40 1/2 and sitting in a bar watching the game. This game and betting Oakland in the "immaculate reception" game are the two worst beats that I ever incurred betting sports - and I have been betting sports since 1970.

It’s funny when you hear Don Meredith saying OH NO on the last kick 😂
I remember watching this game when I was 14 years old. I remember this as possibly the worst MNF game of all time..neither team wanted to win.
Lol, yeah I was 14 too. My dad went to bed, and I stayed up to watch that fucker blow it three times.

I don't recall this game at all. Then I remembered, I was working 2nd shift in '83 and never saw it. Probably a good thing, too.
Just a guess, but i bet Bidwill wouldn't agree to cut him because he didn't want to pay to sign another kicker
I was at that game. So sad. Worst kicker I've ever seen.
NYG fan watched as a teenager. This is the only game I can recall watching growing up due to how bad it was.
It was pretty horrific
@@StLouisFootballCardinals wasn't it blacked out for St louis mkt. ?
@@richardchartrand2257 Yes, it was, so the TV viewers there lucked out.
O'Donoghue was the worst kicker in NFL history that managed to play 8 seasons. Seriously missed a 19 yarder? Awful
19 yards. Good God

What a difference a week makes for ABC- from the Redskins/Packers offensive explosion to a tie
