I wanted to say thank you for this guide It helped me a lot, I've played this game for a couple days but always struggled my record for surviving is Month 1 day 3 i think i lost all my original members on like day 10 but that's a lot better than it used to go, but this is for sure gonna make it easier for me i never bothered with the traits before either
'Drunkard' is a negative trait that can be removed entirely by never consuming any alcohol. It takes a long time, ten rests I think, but once it's gone that's two positive traits in exchange for no negatives traits.
@@04AMofficial Works in the current version. In my two runs with a starting party of drunkards the unhappiness will build up due to lack of alcohol until one member threatens to leave. The next rest they all lose the drunkard trait. You just have to make sure no alcohol is consumed until they're cured.
wartales is like a survival cRPG. Crafting is king. Crafted food, armor and weapons are superior to any drops or vendor items (early-midgame), bar the purple drops region boss and dungeon restored weapons. the 20% profession boost makes a huge difference, 10% chance to be attacked whilst resting is minimal. Select wrath on all characters, take quick for more movement, stupid fro the negative. Invest intial stats in movement ++ 18-20, then raise willpower to 15 for the life save, after that put them wherever you want. Your characters will get all the dps stats they need from the crafted weapons. when you begin the game go straight to the mine for ore, then go get your first missions from the township and begin crafting at the blacksmith. movement is winwin on the battlefield don't neglect it, along with crafted armor and weapons. Expert mode is easy if you follow the above advice.
i never had the interest in turn based combat games , bought this in steam sale oblivious to the fact that this is turn based combat rpg , started the game got disappointed because of the turn based combat and quit , next day thought about giving it a shot as i had spent money and boy i would have missed 😱this masterpiece 🔥if i did not , im hooked ,it has been a while since i played such a good game ..!! never gonna ignore any new game because of its genre. and thanks for the tutorial 👍
@16:43 the secret can be easier to see if you hold down right-click and rotate the camera/scene. You can rotate every scene like this to see behind things a bit easier.
Thank good for this video, I loaded this game up and was thrown into the world with no toturial straight into deep end , after watching this I restarted and set my party up properly, really enjoying this game now on Xbox by the way on game pass. Thanks for the video bro
Eternal Dissatisfaction doesn't prevent you from anything. It is a penalty that is already negated by having a single member sitting at the campfire and does not reduce your maximum happiness. Willpower reduction is one of the worst penalties because that is directly interfering with your combat.
Did they change it? Still not recommended to take the debuff though, carry is probably the nobrainer there. Will definitely not take the reduced Willpower one either, cheers!
The real no-brainer choice is 10% rest danger. For someone who relishes the combat, having a minor increase in battles just means more loot and more exp.
Cool overall, BUT... Drunkard is by far the best negative trait for any char as it's the only one that is REMOVABLE. More often than not, all my starting chars (pony included) get detoxed by the time they reach level 5. Its only drawback is a tiny bit of happiness management at the start and that only really impacts your play when there are more than 3 drunks left in your party.
I heard its removable indeed, a gamechanger worth going for! Ill probably do it on my next save if it is that quickly removed as I really like max happiness for quick Influence farming and 24/4 better rates on Contracts and Career Plans
The very first thing you should do after starting the game is to turn the brightness all the way up. WAY easier to spot interactive stuff. You can also rotate the camera (didn't notice if that was mentioned in the review) by holding the right mouse button. Again, helpful for finding secrets.
It's my first time playing and haven't tried Hard yet but I am thriving on experienced difficulty after watching a few guides on game mechanics and builds. I was trying to make extra cash with capturing bandits but I find that I am constantly fixated on maximizing the efficiency of my turns. I don't even fish because everyone is mastering another role and I find bounties of food through killing boars and ghost just by traveling to my destinations. I'm at the second area and I haven't even touched a bounty in awhile because I keep running into points of interest and making money from the quest and loot.
Immediately subbed on the comment that you named your horse Roach and Crixus from Spartacus! I too named my horse that and got a chuckle at you mentioning the Witcher, Also great video on explaining this game, Thank You.
awesome guide!! only thing i think should/could have been added was a general discussion of the grand goals of the game. i now feel like i know all the different systems and nitty gritty stuff but i still sort of lack direction.
37:00 Cooking is THE solution. Cheap or even cost effective, efficient, grant bonuses. You can cook early bread or the special meal of the region city.
For the negative Destiny, you can counter the 10% Danger or -1 Willpower. A Watchtower (Recipe can be found in the Banditcamp in Tiltren) to reduce the 10% Danger during resting. A Lute for your Bard in your Base to give +1 Willpower (Recipe found in the Tavern in Arthres) Both requires one Person to use in your camp but since you can negate the effect its worth it.

Played blind until half the second zone, and I was annoyed that I didn't get any gold for the prisoner I sold early on. This will make my new run much smoother, thanks.

Not only are they extremely helpful in any tutorial video, but I personally get very annoyed with the several minute long intros a lot of tutorial guides on youtube have. Yours are a little more tolerable since you are more established and actually have some experience in editing not not just rambling on for several minutes unedited. Still nice to have the option to skip though, options are always good 👍
I'm so hyped for replaying this at the weekend after 1.0 dropped with me totally getting blindsided by it. As it went into early acces back then, it was the perfect mix of Battle Brothers and Mount & Blade while being set in a not-so-shiny low fantasy world. Played the early access for 150 hours before even the first real update came live and then decided to wait it out for the full release =) BTW It's hOver, with 1 O ... not hOOver like the president, with 2 O ...

Been playing RPG games for many years way back to the original Baldurs Gate series and have to say really enjoying this game so far and its still in beta access? The graphics are not amazing but the gameplay is really decent. I stated on easier level just to get use to the game mechanics and it seems the way to go. Still exploring the first main area taking various missions building my team of 8 (including a war pony and bear) but will eventually move on when they are strong enough. Various of my team though are mentioning they had enough and want to leave which is a new mechanic which Ive not seen often in RPG games so you have to consider that as well. Also when a companion dies in combat that's it they are gone which can be a shock when you spent a lot of time of them...even when one of my ponies died in combat I felt sad. Great game so far looking forward to how it will progress and great video as well :)
Also forgot completely about taking bandits as prisoners for money....have to start thinking that and not killing them........struggling bit on lockpicking though it seems.
This is an awesome video. Really appreciate you taking the time. When's a good time to recruit new members and how many would you suggest at max? You mentioned that there are easy ways to gain XP to offset the "stupid" trait, if you knew what you were doing, but only mentioned the minor quests in the tavern... are there better ways to gain XP? I've seen/read from others that running is either just as tiring as walking, when compared to distance traveled, and I've seen people say it's better walk unless you need to run. Can you clarify? Are spearman just as good in 1.0 as people talked about in EA? Will crafted gear typically be as good as found gear, given the same rarity/quality?
Thanks, glad you like it! Recruit whenever you can, wait for the right traits to pop up though (Dex for Ranger/Archer and Str for Melee, don't recruit Gluttons, Alcoholics or other bad traits) XP is primarily gained in combat and during rest events. I recommend doing a lot of fighting (and make sure to deal dmg with the companions you want XP with) I never 'Walk', so can't tell. Running should be done 24/7 once you unlock the Knowledge as it simply makes everything faster & easier to escape if you manage the energy well ^^ I don't use Spearmen in my Crew, prefer to have 2x Sword/Mace+Shield, 2x Ranger and 2x Archer, possibly a third archer/tank (7 man army with 1 to reroll 4 less used Professions like mining) Crafted gear can be very good in terms of Armor value as you can boost it, while it usually doesn't come with good 'Extras' like Crit and more Movement, I like using both depending on what I find/can craft first.

@@04AMofficial Spearman can be really useful Midgame. With the 4x Hit spear behind your Tank for maximum Damage and a Wrath Buff for the Spearman himself and the Tank is pretty Godlike. Kinda falls off later, but for the Time being i´ll take it.
What are the best builds for: Spearmen & Warriors? What would you consider to be the best traits for each one? Finally, do yo want to have both Traits before you hire an additional member? Or is a single positive trait and no negative traits for a new member considered good enough to join the team?
I would focus on one strong trait like +dex or str and possibly -% wages or+movespeed. You'll find new companions over time with maybe better traits but they are rare so not worth waiting on too much
@@04AMofficial Thank you for the response. I have seen some folks suggesting that a base stat bonus is good but a crit % might be better. Is there a specific side of that equation that you would stand on? Is there a balance that you'd think is perfect? Also, how much movement speed would you say is enough v too much? 12? 14? 20? How much would you limit constitution?
As you progress in the game does the party size of enemies you encounter increase? Or does it stay more evenly matched to your party size but their skill-set is higher?

This was very useful thank you. With the profession if I loose the experience for that level when switching once I get past a few levels should I stop switching, I assume at higher levels it takes more experience to level up ?
At a certain point, you should have permanent people for certain jobs; Thief, Tinkerer, Angler, Alchemist, Blacksmith and Cook, while the Miner, Woodcutter, Scholar and Bard are situational/optional So having a Squad of 7 guys will cover the 6 essential Professions and have 1 extra guy to switch between the rest (or use Prisoners for those tasks when you need them)
Money is never an issue for me. Quests give so much money that alcohol is basicially a win win. I feed 1 food and I dont have a downside. So I like to have 2-3 alcoholics in the party. Shouldnt be more or the supplies will get harder and harder to get.
Just a heads up, strat wise. You'd definitely want to choose First Aid for all of your starting members, especially in Iron Man mode. This is also especially true if you're new. If you only have 1 person with first aid and they get poisoned, then you can just watch them wittle away and wither. AoEs are also quite a regular thing so you'll often find yourself with multiple poisoned or bleeding units. If youre unlucky and you get a member or two out of positioned then it would be especially difficult to get to them with just one person on First Aid.
While i partially agree, I also think that 100% first aid will reduce your damage output a lot, having missed opportunities to take down certain high threat enemies before they get to play, resulting in those spefific aoe dmg/poison events. Especially warriors and rogues are amazing at executing enemies quick early with theit finishing move, so I would recommend sticking with first aid to your characters in the backline, archers who usually dont get engaged to mazimize dmg output and minimize the chances of you getting dmged - the need for first aid
@@04AMofficial but with a thief, you just run up to the brotherhood at the start of the game, steal the skills, use em up and pay some miniscule amount of gold when you get caught? xD
Constitution is not as useful as Willpower (second wind at 15 and faster galvanisation), Movement (control the battlefield and less turn wasted), and crit chance.
I will say it looks like a good game. The biggest issue I have with it, is the fact you don't have a main character, and any of your people can die in battle and not come back. Aside from that, its a great game.
You can heal, do damage over time, long range, apply weaknesses, proc crits etc. This world doesn't come with 'magic', while you can inbue your weapons with poison, enchantments if you will. Lets agree to disagree that this game absolutely doesn't need mages or priests in any way :D
From what I can tell the magic in here is if the subtle kind. Which require rituals and offerings and time. But I doubt they will add anything of the super active fireball slinging magic in.
Why making brute more tanky then swordsman. Isn’t the swordsman better tank? Also they have higher movement, so they are better with first aid.. thx for answer
I got into a fight with the Guard after commiting some crimes and they said, one of my guys has to go to prison. I thought, I send of the new guy, but you can not choose that. They send my horse to prison! MY FREAKIN HORSE!
Is it possible to overwrite the single save playing on limited save mode? Im rly frustrated bc i bought the game recently and last weekend i lost my save (an autosave) that had about 60~80h. The save got stuck before starting a battle that crashed while loading and i couldn't even go back to the last village visited. So yeah... pretty sad but i had to do a fresh start.
question can I beat the game with just 4 people without recruit anyone? Do I need to get all profession because all of it has some importance? Can i change traits on people I recruit?
You could, while I recommend recruiting a couple to get a very nice 6-7 squad and switch professions with some as you don't need Mining, Woodcutting and Scholar 24/7. I play with this amount all the time and I find it the best Squad size. Traits cannot be changed
yeah, I just know you can customize and respec your recruits, you can get traits when kill enemy leader so I will just recruit people with positive traits or blank Yeah I think I will make a 6-8 squad
Yea, leveling is quite slow, just keep playing with the same Companions and eventually they will get to the desired level (a lot of combat is recommended - animals and rat infwstations are quite nice to farm )
Oh yeah there's this thing I noticed at the Camp items you can craft. Banner has a lot of options where you can use Influence to increase exp earned from battles for 30% and others...
Am I supposed to keep switching crafting professions cause your video guide has Dirge pick up like 2 or 3 professions. Isn't that bad for raising your professions?
In the beginning, you'll come across the first 7 ish professions and only have like 4-5 Crew members, so you should to maximize efficiency. However, once you have around 7: keep a dedicated Cook, Angler, Smith, Alchemist, Thief, Tinkerer and let one guy switch between Scholar/Miner/Woodcutter/Bard as those arent always needed
I really don't like these min-maxing guides. I appreciate the intent, but for anyone reading, please understand this is meant to be a role playing game. You can - and should! - play whatever you feel like, everything should be viable. Take starting party for example, all characters in this video are "stupid". If that's not the vibe you wanna go with, you can absolutely take other debuffs. I made my archer a drunkard because I roleplay him as a cowardly SoB who needs alcohol to even function normally.
While I absolutely agree with you, drunkard is probably the worst debuff to start with as alcohol is not very accessible eary game. You might as well just go with 1 random positive bonus and no secondary, no debuff either. Im sure many people would find it quite frustrating to have certain debuffs from the start, especially if they dont know how to properly deal.with them ^^ anyways, its RPG and once you know what you're doing its all good! Cheers
dont like all this min/maxing, I enjoy random everything, and play with what i get an try to get the best out of it. Play the same way in Rimworld. (the less I know from the start, the more fun I have)
Sometimes on character creation I can put unlucky on my horse and sometimes I can't, sometimes I have clubfooted and sometimes I don't, is this random or a bug?
Can someone explain to me how to get rid of the Drunkard trait? I saw some comments and tried but without success, i have all 4 companions with Drunkard and i never gave to them any food with alcohol, just bread, meat and beans but for some reason on their food icon says "1 day without alcohol" but i already at 1 month and 5 days so how is this possible?

@@iTWLive Yeah, I have no problem taking that one. Though honestly, the carry capacity get negated by Pony 2. So both are virtually free picks.
The danger during rest debuff is a good choice. You can get a watch tower that negates it. Take career plan first for knowledge.
Yup, I always go for Career Plan and Sprint first (you'll see me take it a couple minutes later ^^)

Press ALT to let interactive Things glow a little bit (which is less effective when you turn up the Brightness)
At least on the Xbox the highlight and “hover over” colors can be set to more visible options.

Still exploring the first main area taking various missions building my team of 8 (including a war pony and bear) but will eventually move on when they are strong enough. Various of my team though are mentioning they had enough and want to leave which is a new mechanic which Ive not seen often in RPG games so you have to consider that as well. Also when a companion dies in combat that's it they are gone which can be a shock when you spent a lot of time of them...even when one of my ponies died in combat I felt sad. Great game so far looking forward to how it will progress and great video as well :)
Also forgot completely about taking bandits as prisoners for money....have to start thinking that and not killing them........struggling bit on lockpicking though it seems.

When's a good time to recruit new members and how many would you suggest at max?
You mentioned that there are easy ways to gain XP to offset the "stupid" trait, if you knew what you were doing, but only mentioned the minor quests in the tavern... are there better ways to gain XP?
I've seen/read from others that running is either just as tiring as walking, when compared to distance traveled, and I've seen people say it's better walk unless you need to run. Can you clarify?
Are spearman just as good in 1.0 as people talked about in EA?
Will crafted gear typically be as good as found gear, given the same rarity/quality?

Recruit whenever you can, wait for the right traits to pop up though (Dex for Ranger/Archer and Str for Melee, don't recruit Gluttons, Alcoholics or other bad traits)
XP is primarily gained in combat and during rest events. I recommend doing a lot of fighting (and make sure to deal dmg with the companions you want XP with)
I never 'Walk', so can't tell. Running should be done 24/7 once you unlock the Knowledge as it simply makes everything faster & easier to escape if you manage the energy well ^^
I don't use Spearmen in my Crew, prefer to have 2x Sword/Mace+Shield, 2x Ranger and 2x Archer, possibly a third archer/tank (7 man army with 1 to reroll 4 less used Professions like mining)
Crafted gear can be very good in terms of Armor value as you can boost it, while it usually doesn't come with good 'Extras' like Crit and more Movement, I like using both depending on what I find/can craft first.

@@04AMofficial Spearman can be really useful Midgame. With the 4x Hit spear behind your Tank for maximum Damage and a Wrath Buff for the Spearman himself and the Tank is pretty Godlike.

Finally, do yo want to have both Traits before you hire an additional member? Or is a single positive trait and no negative traits for a new member considered good enough to join the team?
I would focus on one strong trait like +dex or str and possibly -% wages or+movespeed. You'll find new companions over time with maybe better traits but they are rare so not worth waiting on too much

I have seen some folks suggesting that a base stat bonus is good but a crit % might be better. Is there a specific side of that equation that you would stand on? Is there a balance that you'd think is perfect?

The Repair Tools are basically what you do after combat (shown in the beginning), or visit a Blacksmith (and do it for gold)

This was very useful thank you. With the profession if I loose the experience for that level when switching once I get past a few levels should I stop switching, I assume at higher levels it takes more experience to level up ?
At a certain point, you should have permanent people for certain jobs; Thief, Tinkerer, Angler, Alchemist, Blacksmith and Cook, while the Miner, Woodcutter, Scholar and Bard are situational/optional
So having a Squad of 7 guys will cover the 6 essential Professions and have 1 extra guy to switch between the rest (or use Prisoners for those tasks when you need them)

Money is never an issue for me.
Quests give so much money that alcohol is basicially a win win. I feed 1 food and I dont have a downside.
So I like to have 2-3 alcoholics in the party. Shouldnt be more or the supplies will get harder and harder to get.

Just a heads up, strat wise.
You'd definitely want to choose First Aid for all of your starting members, especially in Iron Man mode.
This is also especially true if you're new.
If you only have 1 person with first aid and they get poisoned, then you can just watch them wittle away and wither.
AoEs are also quite a regular thing so you'll often find yourself with multiple poisoned or bleeding units.
If youre unlucky and you get a member or two out of positioned then it would be especially difficult to get to them with just one person on First Aid.
While i partially agree, I also think that 100% first aid will reduce your damage output a lot, having missed opportunities to take down certain high threat enemies before they get to play, resulting in those spefific aoe dmg/poison events. Especially warriors and rogues are amazing at executing enemies quick early with theit finishing move, so I would recommend sticking with first aid to your characters in the backline, archers who usually dont get engaged to mazimize dmg output and minimize the chances of you getting dmged - the need for first aid

I did not know you could move your units before a fight. I just went with what I was given 😂
Constitution is not as useful as Willpower (second wind at 15 and faster galvanisation), Movement (control the battlefield and less turn wasted), and crit chance.
I will say it looks like a good game. The biggest issue I have with it, is the fact you don't have a main character, and any of your people can die in battle and not come back. Aside from that, its a great game.

Nice game, but RPG/ STRATEGY turn based, without "Mage" and "Priest", is like a food without salt. (My opinion) Ty for the guide :)
You can heal, do damage over time, long range, apply weaknesses, proc crits etc. This world doesn't come with 'magic', while you can inbue your weapons with poison, enchantments if you will. Lets agree to disagree that this game absolutely doesn't need mages or priests in any way :D
From what I can tell the magic in here is if the subtle kind. Which require rituals and offerings and time. But I doubt they will add anything of the super active fireball slinging magic in.

I got into a fight with the Guard after commiting some crimes and they said, one of my guys has to go to prison. I thought, I send of the new guy, but you can not choose that. They send my horse to prison! MY FREAKIN HORSE!

Is it possible to overwrite the single save playing on limited save mode?
Im rly frustrated bc i bought the game recently and last weekend i lost my save (an autosave) that had about 60~80h. The save got stuck before starting a battle that crashed while loading and i couldn't even go back to the last village visited.
So yeah... pretty sad but i had to do a fresh start.

You could, while I recommend recruiting a couple to get a very nice 6-7 squad and switch professions with some as you don't need Mining, Woodcutting and Scholar 24/7. I play with this amount all the time and I find it the best Squad size. Traits cannot be changed
yeah, I just know you can customize and respec your recruits, you can get traits when kill enemy leader so I will just recruit people with positive traits or blank

Yea, leveling is quite slow, just keep playing with the same Companions and eventually they will get to the desired level (a lot of combat is recommended - animals and rat infwstations are quite nice to farm )
Oh yeah there's this thing I noticed at the Camp items you can craft. Banner has a lot of options where you can use Influence to increase exp earned from battles for 30% and others...

Am I supposed to keep switching crafting professions cause your video guide has Dirge pick up like 2 or 3 professions. Isn't that bad for raising your professions?
In the beginning, you'll come across the first 7 ish professions and only have like 4-5 Crew members, so you should to maximize efficiency. However, once you have around 7: keep a dedicated Cook, Angler, Smith, Alchemist, Thief, Tinkerer and let one guy switch between Scholar/Miner/Woodcutter/Bard as those arent always needed

I really don't like these min-maxing guides. I appreciate the intent, but for anyone reading, please understand this is meant to be a role playing game. You can - and should! - play whatever you feel like, everything should be viable. Take starting party for example, all characters in this video are "stupid". If that's not the vibe you wanna go with, you can absolutely take other debuffs. I made my archer a drunkard because I roleplay him as a cowardly SoB who needs alcohol to even function normally.
While I absolutely agree with you, drunkard is probably the worst debuff to start with as alcohol is not very accessible eary game. You might as well just go with 1 random positive bonus and no secondary, no debuff either. Im sure many people would find it quite frustrating to have certain debuffs from the start, especially if they dont know how to properly deal.with them ^^ anyways, its RPG and once you know what you're doing its all good! Cheers

Sometimes on character creation I can put unlucky on my horse and sometimes I can't, sometimes I have clubfooted and sometimes I don't, is this random or a bug?

Can someone explain to me how to get rid of the Drunkard trait? I saw some comments and tried but without success, i have all 4 companions with Drunkard and i never gave to them any food with alcohol, just bread, meat and beans but for some reason on their food icon says "1 day without alcohol" but i already at 1 month and 5 days so how is this possible?
