P5 Flyssa vs X10 Medusa? Looking to throw finesse swimbaits, dropshot in a pinch, mid stroll, and hair jig. Other techniques that I didn’t list would be awesome to cover with the rod too. From the boat and bank. Thanks!
@@umairfaizuddin3429I hear the Flyssa is more of the hair jig and super finesse plastic, and the Medusa is more of the strolling and heavier dropshot rod.

Megabass P5 Destroyer Pop X Stick just arrived today 😃 from TW. Had to save a little and picked up the Shimano Aldebaran bfs from Japan. Thanks for al the amazing videos from both of you though out the years. Love the buyers guides.
I just took a trip to Florida. I had a new rod I wanted to try. GLX 841 spinning rod paired to a Diawa Tatula Elite 3000. First off, I'm a kayak angler. So I fish the flats. I can't tell you how many Reds 13 to 20 inches and trout I caught on that setup. Give the GLX 841 a try. I'm amazed at how it handled. Can't wait to catch a bass mid strolling. I also got the 842. It's an amazing rod also. My next rod is the poison adrena ML 6.10 whenever it's available. Come on, spring!
What you saw with that last spinning rod and spybaits is why I prefer a spinning rod for jerkbaits. Extremely smooth drag makes things so much better and although I don’t have as high end of gear I feel like a good drag is easier to find in a budget spinning reel than casting reels.
Another fantastic summary of your high end boogiest (if that is even a word lol) rods and reels. I can only dream of getting even one of those combos in the future, but I try and see what I have in my mid to mid/high combo's that are similar in power and action for the techniques you gave us some juice on. G Loomis in CAD plus our insane taxes is like buying a $1000 rod and same thing for any Metanium or Steez baitcasters so just can't do that but if I could I would handily pick one up without an issue. Thank you for another great buyer's guide from the budget to no limits!
Every year it‘s a pure pleasure seeing you lightening up when talking about some high end gear! May I ask for your advise? I‘m in the market for a high end rod specifically fishing a Carolina rig. I’m fishing in a float tube, the rod shouldn‘t be too long and it should be a casting rod. Maximum weight to throw about 1 oz. What would be your suggestion? Would really appreciate an answer. Greetings from Germany…
Edge rods are going to be really close to g loomis. Gary loomis would say they’re better. I build my rods from their blanks. I wish I could compare them for you, but there’s no sense in me buying a loomis. They have to make money and charge for a warranty. I can say that the blanks are just as good or better than the P5’s. At the high end each blank is its own thing. You can buy a high end dud and the next model in the same line is lights out.
@@rhodesianhunter9360nice! I did order two rods from Edge just wish they wouldn’t take so long but if that means better quality then I am ok with that.
These are some amazing rods! I would love to actually use one of these. the most expansive combo I have is a 7'1" St Croix Bass-X and a Diawa Tatula TWS 100. That is a really sensitive combo I can only imagine how much less fatigue your combos would help.
MATT & TIM ONE Question: Do Yall think they will be coming out at I Cast 25’ with a BFS DC😉😉. I wouldn’t think the tec is for off from having one if not already have them and just testing right now to see if they hold up or what not. Thanks brothers for all the work yall have defiantly earned being where you at.
Tim's last combo...Z-crank eisel with the steeze CTSVTW.....is with #30 braid my number #1 combo for 1/4 or 3/8 mini-max chatter bait. unbelievable hook up ratio and a dream to fish all day.
I have one top end rod in a Medium Fast Legend Xtreme Spinning Rod with a Daiwa Tatula i basically only throw a shakey head on. I fish a shakey head different than bottom though, with constant twitching and reeling, swimming it as the worm goes up and down through the water column. So its basically a 900$ rig, but I have all the sensitivity i need with the ability to horse the fish in through cover. I love it. Probably good on rods bc of my lineup, but i am looking at adding a MGL reel to to my lineup bc i have all Curado DC casters (aside from two Curado BFS) and Daiwa Tatula Spinners. Want a bigger frame mgl for larger swimbaits.
Megabass Destroyer P5 Windbuster with a Daiwa Exist 3000D and a Megabass Mark56 for big baits, and a X biters for bottom baits. All rigged on Shimano Scorpian 151 DC reels
Surprised no bantam this year! Great job as always guys! Been wondering about grabbing a poison Ultima this year, haven’t decided yet. It makes me nervous only having a 1 year warranty on an almost $900 rod
Finally the good stuff for my snobby bass fishing tastes! Tim going with more baitcaster than spinning is going backward with the Trend! Come on get on the NRX+ 872 train! Exist over Stella!
Makes sense to pair the Poison Ultima with the Antares. The rod looks like a space ship and the reel looks like a Cylon from Buck Rogers (if ya know you know).
Love the content. Buy from custom rod builders. Find one that focuses on the type of rods you want. Get personalized perfection for the same or less than the high-end big name stuff
Had a 1.5 year old Megabass P5 Cyclone break on me yesterday. Snapped clean about 1/3 of the way down from the tip while casting a mini underspin. I was stunned. Maybe a defect in the blank....no idea, but I don't think it was due to any abuse on my end. I'm well within the 3 year warranty but gotta pay 40% of purchase price for a new replacement.
What a bummer! So sorry that happened! As consumers that have broken a ton of rods through the years (whoops!) the vast majority of factory defects show up in the first use or two. Concealed damage shows up right away when they're under load... and usually in very explosive ways 😂 Typically if it's after that, it's some kind of damage, even if we don't realize it happened. Either way, we hate that for you! Its such a bummer to lose a rod, even when its covered!
Great video, as always. Also, which video are you talking about toward the end? The one where you were throwing the spy bait for smallies… I’d like to give it a watch. 😺👍🏽
Loved the video and thank you!! I actually picked up a previous generation st croix legend xtreme 7’ M casting on marketplace for $275 pretty much brand new. My question is, I know it’s an old rod but if either of you have had experience using it how does it compare to the new models they make now?
I saw you mentioned the GLX JBR. It seems like it can you do a lot of things well but would it be your first choice for jerkbaits, or do you still prefer the expride?
We've both had them for quite a while, but unless they're made available in the US market where there is warranty, parts, and service available, we'd never make that recommendation. It's too much money for someone to throw away with zero support by importing themselves.
@@samuelsellers3829Yep you nailed Southeast Louisiana. How bout when they in your ear buzzing 🤬🤬😂😂 drive a good man crazy. But it not bad with a hard wind. But we duck hunt. In the marsh from 4AM setting up they are jet skis everywhere and a straight up pain in the 🫏😂Also while we fish to the camp swap shotguns rifle eat fish to where we park the boat and deer hunt tell we kill or dark then stop at the trap get live bream for the lines and bait em up. That’s when they bad.
Do you guys have any other suggestion for dedicated dark sleeper rods? It can either be specific models/rods, or just an action, length, etc. to look for. Spinning and Casting if possible. It's one of my main baits on LSC and I'd like to get a dedicated combo for it this year.
Have you guys played with the mega bass craftmans pride drop rods or arms super leggera? I have most rods in this vid am just wondering if you play with more jdm rods like the above or evergreen orion rods ect?
I’m not sure if you guys will see this, but I would really appreciate your help in deciding on six models from the NRX+ lineup to cover most techniques. I’m having a hard time finding info on each specific model, particularly from people with personal experience. I’m new to this line of rods, so I’d appreciate any help. Drop-shot, jig/worm, cranking, jerkbait/topwater, finesse plastics (ned, worms, etc), come to mind first.
Do you guys consider the 843 or 844mbr as more of a do everything rod? They are raved about all the time, but I can't quite tell the applications both do good and which ones they perform better at than the other.
Great video.... I'd. love to own an ultra high end setup, but just don't see spending my mortgage payment on a rod/reel. I guess I'm lucky I don't have any high end shops near me because your enthusiasm makes me want to 'try' one. Do you have any experience/opinions on Kistler and Douglass Outdoors rods? They're USA made rods.
@johngfishing8814 I have not tried them yet but my buddy and I ordered two rods from them back in May when they had 40% off. The one thing you have to just know now is it’s going to take a while to get the rods but hopefully they are worth it.
The 2024 twin power is hard to beat, its hard to tell why id like my most recent stellas more, also the new diawa airity st lt 2500 at 135 grams is a mist try pairs perfect with sub 7ft ultra light rods. Id love your feedback on those reels. Also the new certate tho i wasnt the biggest fan i found it to be as smooth and refind as i woupd have expected but it was a bit loud and a bit more start up inertia then i thought was ideal. Again id love your thoughts, im as big a high end gear and bait nerd as you guys and would love you thoughts as people i look up to in the industry
Have either of you messed with any of the new Poison Adrena B casting rods? I notice Tim was holding the previous version. I was looking at the 7'2 glass version for Chatterbaits online. Curious how that'll do for 3/8oz Chatterbaits. The previous model was on the heavier side (weight-wise). And idea if the new B version is lighter?
Could really use some insight on the IMX-PRO SWBR 966 vs 965. Both seem very similar but without being able to handle one I'm not sure what th ebenefits of each are.
Would you say there’s a rod for both bass and trout? I’m thinking of getting a st croix avid panfish rod 7ft light for both bass and trout, I’m mainly throwing a 2.8 keitech, nose hook drop shot, karashi and for trout spoons and spinners. Currently I have a 7ft intenza medium light it’s a good rod but a lil stiff for me. I don’t wanna spend too much, but I don’t mind spending some money. any recommendations?
I've watched all this years rod and reel combos the last couple days, and I know you get tons of comments, but I'm curious what you guys think of the KISTLER - LITE MEDIUM HEAVY rods. It's obvious you guys love Shimano, probably a sponsor, and daiwa as well, and that's the bulk of what y'all talk about with some odd balls but I'd love to get your guys experienced opinion is it worth the $250 bux as a do all versatile rod
@@tacticalbassin my zillion comes in today would you say the metanium dc is better for 3/4 oz and below I also don’t care about the line capacity on the dc I can never chose a reel cause I wanna get the best out of my 500$ I got to spend. I always end up returning and getting different ones
Hay brother nothing wrong with Curado DC I have some thats 6-7 years old and work like the day I got them and they have a minimum 1K cast a week. I just keep em flushed cleaned and oiled up. Because I’m in southeast Louisiana I fish the rivers. But also the marsh and it’s all brackish marsh to salt water. On the outside east and west of the Mississippi River down south of me.
Hey, fella's i finally dove in on BFS and bought the 6"10' ML Element Rod. Im wondering if I'll be able to effectively throw the Karashi with it? Overall would you say this rod would be used for hard baits? or more for a single hook setup?
Something say that these are ridiculous, but it ends up being cheaper than buying 4 cheaper combos and upgrading. Buy the higher end and buy less and spend less overall
That's actually Matt's favorite spinning rod for a shaky head, it can definitely do it. The weedless dropshot... its not the softest tip, but the bait should have a similar hook, I think it could be done as well.
The Abu casts really far whereas the Aldebaran is more about short precision casting. I've spent a lot of time this year making those long range casts, fishing clear water.
@tacticalbassin I'm honestly surprised at how far Abu has come that you guys are talking about them as much as you have been. I've been following you guys for 8ish years and I've heard more Abu Garcia talk in the last 6 months than I have the previous 8 years

What is your best 2 part rods ? Would love a video about travel/river rods
We own a lot of custom rods as well, but most custom builders don't have access to the level of components that are in some of these models.
Awsome video, can we get a fishing line buyers guide?
Amazing! Love all the gear..... Fish some of it now...A please to be part of your journey!
Love geeking out on the high end stuff way out of budget but man so cool
Great video, as always. Also, which video are you talking about toward the end? The one where you were throwing the spy bait for smallies… I’d like to give it a watch. 😺👍🏽
Super informative video. And you bother present them well.
I hope that you guys may someday try an NFC Edge Epitome model. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Hey Matt and Tim I was wondering if either one of y'all have ever used the destroyer p5 whippet and what your thoughts are on it?
Shimano metanium’s are very good reels use many of them, also the bantams. Smooth strong reels.
Can you throw chatterbaits with the dark sleeper as well? Ripping it through grass most of the time. 3/8-1/2 oz sizes
Any recommendation on a higher end combo that could do jig and frogging?
Loved the video and thank you!! I actually picked up a previous generation st croix legend xtreme 7’ M casting on marketplace for $275 pretty much brand new. My question is, I know it’s an old rod but if either of you have had experience using it how does it compare to the new models they make now?
I saw you mentioned the GLX JBR. It seems like it can you do a lot of things well but would it be your first choice for jerkbaits, or do you still prefer the expride?
You guys need to snag a Shimano Vanquish if you like the mgl spinning reels. You will be mindblown. 😂
We've both had them for quite a while, but unless they're made available in the US market where there is warranty, parts, and service available, we'd never make that recommendation. It's too much money for someone to throw away with zero support by importing themselves.
The gnat that was around the camera 😂😂 5:30
Also the combat bass fishing with the 7’5 is a blast
That dumb gnat... its the reality of outdoor filming 🤷♂️
@ yeah there a pain here in the south
@@samuelsellers3829Yep you nailed Southeast Louisiana. How bout when they in your ear buzzing 🤬🤬😂😂 drive a good man crazy. But it not bad with a hard wind. But we duck hunt. In the marsh from 4AM setting up they are jet skis everywhere and a straight up pain in the 🫏😂Also while we fish to the camp swap shotguns rifle eat fish to where we park the boat and deer hunt tell we kill or dark then stop at the trap get live bream for the lines and bait em up. That’s when they bad.
I want to see a breakdown from cheap to expensive on the different shimano spinning reels. Power vs finesse and how you use them.
It's coming soon, keep checking back through the Buyer's Guides 👍🏼
Can you guys do a video discussing the difference between the Shimano finesse vs power reels?
Yes, we'll do this later in the guides. Keep an eye out.
Have you guys tried the Edge rods? Would love to hear what you have to say.
Yes, we own some edge rods. To be honest, they didn't leap out for me. Don't get me wrong, they're nice, but there are a lot of really nice rods.
It must be nice ,i have that alderbaran on a z crank and it’s insane.
@@tacticalbassinwhat series did you go with?
@johngfishing8814 I have not tried them yet but my buddy and I ordered two rods from them back in May when they had 40% off. The one thing you have to just know now is it’s going to take a while to get the rods but hopefully they are worth it.
Are you guys not a fan of Daiwa steez rods? I have nrx+ , destroyer, steez, st croix Extreme, Edge silver widows and i like all of them.
Fast or extra fast for the fenwick for throwing the Big EZ in Florida?
People sending hate for the ultra high end video. Sounds like jealousy to me. I've yet to reach into this ultra high end level of gear, maybe one day.
This is the video i have been waiting for 😂 good stuff fellas. No love for the Steez BCII this year? How does it compare to the Braillist?
Thank you boys!!!!!
Could really use some insight on the IMX-PRO SWBR 966 vs 965. Both seem very similar but without being able to handle one I'm not sure what th ebenefits of each are.
What are your guys thoughts on the NRX+ 904C MBR?
Im looking for the absolute best, most sensitive rod for mostly 5/16 t- rigs. I'm wanting to try my first nrx+ but not sure the best rod for that?
Yup it's not in my budget but I still buy high end 😂 great video guys love your chanel ❤️
Won comp on the poison ultima with finesse jigs
Would you say there’s a rod for both bass and trout? I’m thinking of getting a st croix avid panfish rod 7ft light for both bass and trout, I’m mainly throwing a 2.8 keitech, nose hook drop shot, karashi and for trout spoons and spinners. Currently I have a 7ft intenza medium light it’s a good rod but a lil stiff for me. I don’t wanna spend too much, but I don’t mind spending some money. any recommendations?
Straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
I thought the Vanquish was the highest end Shimano Finesse reel more than an oz lighter than a Stella 👍
Surprised I didn’t see the Daiwa zillion sv tw I always see that reel everywhere
You may see it next week 😉 It just didn't make the cut today.
@@tacticalbassin my zillion comes in today would you say the metanium dc is better for 3/4 oz and below I also don’t care about the line capacity on the dc I can never chose a reel cause I wanna get the best out of my 500$ I got to spend. I always end up returning and getting different ones
@@tacticalbassin I care about casting distance to
@@tacticalbassin 👋
Have you seen Stealth Stixx rods?
The high end is a high end, after all, thanks.
How can you tell the difference in the "power" and "finesse" spinning reels from Shimano?
We're covering that later in the Buyer's guides. Keep an eye out 👍🏼
I'll never afford these, still like to watch and dream 😅
That's part of the fun!
But you never know a lot of people have latterly over night became set for life this is “America again”
@brianpierson7708 that is true....give your dreams a chance...isn't that the lottery slogan
I’ll spend 500 on a rod but have a hard time spending more than a Curado dc
We've been there! It also depends a lot on where you fish. Some lakes you need distance, other lakes it's all tight quarters fishing.
The metamium mgl is a definite upgrade, for weight and cast distance
I have almost exclusively high-end combos. The less you focus on dealing with gear, the more you can focus on technique.
100%!!
Hey, fella's i finally dove in on BFS and bought the 6"10' ML Element Rod. Im wondering if I'll be able to effectively throw the Karashi with it? Overall would you say this rod would be used for hard baits? or more for a single hook setup?
We use it more for jig hooks, but yes, you can make it work for all.
Something say that these are ridiculous, but it ends up being cheaper than buying 4 cheaper combos and upgrading. Buy the higher end and buy less and spend less overall
Is the Nrx 852s too stiff to throw 1/8th oz shaky heads or 3/16th oz weedless dropshots?
That's actually Matt's favorite spinning rod for a shaky head, it can definitely do it. The weedless dropshot... its not the softest tip, but the bait should have a similar hook, I think it could be done as well.
@ I’ve had great success on the old gen GLX 852s and I think it’s time for an upgrade
Im surprised that Matt chose the Abu Garcia BFS over the Aldebaren BFS
The Abu casts really far whereas the Aldebaran is more about short precision casting. I've spent a lot of time this year making those long range casts, fishing clear water.
@tacticalbassin you guys did talk about that in one of the last videos
@tacticalbassin I'm honestly surprised at how far Abu has come that you guys are talking about them as much as you have been. I've been following you guys for 8ish years and I've heard more Abu Garcia talk in the last 6 months than I have the previous 8 years
What’s the point of doing this for the tackle warehouse sale if not a single item on this list is on sale? (Ik the fenwick is)
Just a random question was it hard to pair 400 dollar combos? My ocd is wonder 😂
Tim, you can't give Matt crap about frogging on a Legend Xtreme and then turn around and talk about throwing frogs on an Xtasy. 😅
