- What are Godlings in the Witcher? In this video I try my best to explain the history of the Godlings. I will go over prominent Godlings, the Godlingss effect on the witcher games, how godlings live, how godlings work in the witcher, Johnny the godling, Sara the godling, the unamed godling and many other Godlings! A quick disclaimer - A lot of these videos use information from the witcher wiki, in some cases I do read directly from the pages, I do always make sure to include my own thoughts and other information I know myself, but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. Even though I use information from the wiki, I do still create the videos, with time, effort and a lot of editing! The idea behind the lore videos is to present to information to you guys in a fun and more interesting way then you guys having to get the information from pages and read it yourself. If anyone isn't okay with this I apologise, but since day one I have always said where I get the information from. Thank you for reading.
I remember being startled by Johhny during my first playthrough. I expected his voice to be all dark and mystical, not light and childlike.

Watching Geralt interact with Johnny gives me such feels. Geralt puts such a warmth and tenderness to his voice, with a lot of patience and understanding-- exactly how you'd converse with a child
Just adds to Geralts character. Proves he’s not only a monster hunter, but also a very kind and understanding person.

The headgear is called "wianek". It's a tradition in some Slavic and Baltic countries, they are made from freshly picked flowers, usually worn by girls at certain occasions. In some areas boys and young men wear those at summer solistice celebrations, but the male version is made from young twigs with green leaves (like birch) with little to no flowers in it.
This tradition dates back to pagan and pre-christian times.

For a rare species with "not many left" Geralt seems to run into them an awful lot.
Well, seeing as his career revolves around supernatural beings, that's not so surprising.
He’s also extremely widely traveled, so his odds of finding one or even three are a lot higher.
Geralt runs into everything, rare or not
witchers are rare but I always seem to run into at least 1 every time I play
They are rare compared to drowners
I love that Geralt’s voice sounds softer when talking to the godlings
It does during the whole Quest... I find it pretty irritating. Just Sounds so different when he's in Crookback Bog
Godlings are harmless just like most of the rock trolls you encounter. The only reason trolls attack geralt is because they're always being hunted or tomented by humans. Look at how geralt communicates with them if you decide to talk instead of kill them. It tells you that some of these creatures aren't all bad.
I remember getting the bottle before the mission began. "You mean this? I already found it" said Geralt which made Johnny look like "wtf bro, give it!" It was funny as heck
i loveee godlings. wish there are more that you can talk with, or perhaps a mini tribe/ hidden village full of them.
They're so cool
Godlings are one of my favorite Witcher “monsters”. They remind me of fairies who are “one” with nature, childish, mischievous, sometimes depicted as innocent, and don’t want themselves to be seen or heard by most people. Especially since godlings are seen as guardian spirits while fairies are also typically also seen as guardian spirits. But fairies are typically forest guardian spirits while godlings are village guardian spirits. Though fairies can also serve as guardian spirits for someone’s home

Admiral Good Boy Destroyer godlings are so much nicer. Fairy’s are basically the mafia you just try and get on their good side and don’t fuck with them or take anything offered from them

I like the rock trolls my favorite one is the one that's always singing hes the one that needs paints and asks you to paint a bird for him.
Godlings are some of my favorite creatures! I find them cute as hell, and they are funny to boot. I think one of the most heartwarming moments of the Witcher 3 is when Sara and Corinne end up becoming friends and living together in that old house. It's like Corinne adopts a little girl =) The whole thing is so cute. By the way, another fun video, WitcherGeorge! I'd go on the path with you any day. I hear there's a griffin terrorizing White Orchard...
How do they become friends? I just did that quest and Sarah is still in the house but Corinne left after she woke up.
@@ArjanTigchelaarif i recall correctly there's another optional quest to visit the house again after doing some novigrad main quest, you'd see corinne and sarah are still there.

Turnabout is fair play. Geralt's feelings are just lucky Johnny couldn't speak yet.

They are just like what I imagine the children of the forest from A Song of Ice and Fire look like.
The godling in the "haunted" house also seemed to be capable of short range teleportation from the way she was able to disappear and move about without Geralt noticing where and how she went as well as projecting her voice, either through space or straight in to other peoples minds
I thought they were gonna be some kind of deity, not basically a forest hobo.

In various mythologies, a godling is usually defined as offspring of a deity and human's , having powers that are akin to the divine. They are usually abandoned or adopted, and grow up (at least for a small time) in the wild.

They seem to be good at stealth, too. IIRC, Sara just disappears when you first see her and the old lady thinks Johnny is imaginary

She doesn't think he's imaginary she pretend he is because the crones don't like him. She would interact with him in secret away from the crone village because crones could've killed him. Also geralt is a witcher. Witcher kill monsters she couldn't had trusted geralt who recently just showed up asking questions.
After i finished witcher i felt so empty, but just watching a simple cutscene like this gives me the good feeling i had while playing. Forgot how immersive witcher is

Please make a video on why almost all of us felt that way after finishing the game . It took me almost a week to get back to ' normalcy' . The feeling was strange , something I had never felt at the finish of any game up till now ...Empty is indeed the right word for it ... hugely depressing .

I wish there was a page on the Internet that listed all Witcher creatures, even the ones that are just mentioned in a sentence or journal entry. I would love to look up all of these as it adds to the lore, but it's hard without replaying and rereading everything.
A while back I asked CDPR if I could buy copies of the Witcher games' scripts cause I adored the dialogue and writing, but sadly they wouldn't allow it.

Not sure if this is for all Godlings or just Johnny, but if you look at his eyes, you’ll notice that the iris’ have flower design in them and I love that.

I love how Johnny gets pissed at Geralt for not asking a yes/no question and asking a "why..." question instead when he knows Johnny can't talk.

With the name "godling" and facing one for the first time in any media, I was expecting them to be prebuscent gods, young forest spirits or nymphs. I am curious about how monsters treat them. Hags seem like feral witches or alpha drowners, Leshens seem like guardian spirits with a prejudice towards humans the most.
Thanks love the lore nd all the missions in crockback bog were my Favorites with the presences of witches, but JMT i think they are more powerful as they are (GOD)-lings the dream manipulation is just a fragment of power, the fact he lost his voice cause he was scared and it was stored in a magical vase always peeked my interest , sounds like something that will happen in a fairytale book dont u think?.. even the unkown godling befriended a werewolf nd troll lol so they have some ties creatures that the witcher universe probably cant understand
MellyT 904 one of my favorite things about the witcher series is the grim dark fairy tale atmosphere. But I agree any of the Relicts are going to have a level of mystery about their connection to the world and magic

Godlings are actually based on a type of Slavic folkloric creatures called bożątka (they are also called bożątka in the original polish version of the witcher. The translation is kinda literal as the word comes from the "bóg" (*bogъ in proto-slavic) meaning "god"). They were a household spirits that took care of the home and helped around the house while staying unseen by humans. They were many kinds of bożątka like bannik (who took care of the bath), dworowy (who took care of the stables and cattle), owinnik (who took care of the fireplace) and domowy (who commanded other bożątka and kept the spirits in order)

I love these lore videos especially since you go out and find things in sources I may have missed, say in the books, other characters, and the like. I just kinda go by the most obvious, the missions themselves and the characters.
I'm sure you're aware of Vaati and the ShoddyCast Story Teller and coming from a someone that does a lot of voice over narration for a living I want to give a few suggestions because I REALLY like your content. First, slow down a bit. Vaati and The Storyteller and good audiobook narrators want you to stay interested in everything they are saying and when you slow down just a bit, or even just vary your pace from paragraph to paragraph it makes it less like a dump of information and more like a story. And 2nd feeds a little into the first, if you make your readings a bit less announcery/presenter and more like you're telling us about this thing you are passionate about, with variations in your speech, you won't have to mix your voice to be much louder than the music or cutscenes and you won't need to cut ALL the dead air between your narration vocals.
I don't want to pile on too many changes at once but I think if you are mindful of these 2 things at first, you don't need to sound like Vaati or the Storyteller because your writing and content are already interesting, I think it'll vastly improve your narration.

See, what was so lit about this game was you have Johnny, an seemingly small side character in the early hours of the game, and he comes back several times in another side quests n stuff, such a well made game, really gave Johnny more life.

When i was doing the barons wife quest and saw johnny's hole full of drowners i got really pissed off, i literally felt like i have the obligation to kill every single drowner in the area if something had happen to him.

It also seems like Johnny is able to control his voice depending on the situation. He says sometimes it’s like a forest brook and at others like a roll of thunder. I figured this is how he’s able to survive being in a swamp full of monsters. If he’s out wandering and chances upon some drowners or they come to his cave then he can scare them off by making his voice seem like thunder which is pretty intimidating if you ask me. And Johnny seems to not be bothered by living around monsters at all so I assume it’s pretty darn effective. Just a little thought.

I noticed this a few times in the game. Usually this happens when Geralt is dealing one on one with children, (or child like creatures).
Geralt always had a soft spot for little ones.
I mean, if you're a voice actor that was tasked to constantly play with your phlegm for a game that consists of nearly a hundred hours of dialogue, it can be quite difficult to be consistent whenever the direction tasks you to do something very different.
I noticed Doug Cockles' talking voice kinda reveals itself whenever Geralt is either surprised, shouting, loses composure, or happily jesting. Sides of Geralt that weren't really there in the previous games.
In Polish Godling means Ubożę and Godlings means Ubożęta. Diminutive of Godling - Bożątko. They are humanoid creatures resembling human children. They are mischievous by nature, but harmless. Polish fan of Witcher by Sapkowski and game of CD Projekt Red too. ;)

Witcher 2 is a great game with graphics that hold up. Definitely worth going back to play. Witcher 1 however was awful. I had to grind through 80 hours to finish that monstrosity (pun intended), it took me 4 years. It only took me 2 months/40 hours to finish the Witcher 2.
Dakota Dunn I loved Witcher 1, the problem is the first 10h, after that the game become much better.
Feel like the show has way less creatures maybe that’ll change but I hope they give us godlings they’re so interesting
