The "lycan" part of lycanthrope actually most likely comes from an old Greek tale of King Lycaon. Lycaon basically was given/found a pelt of a wolf that would turn himself into one as a curse. It's the first recorded story that fits into the werewolf tale and mythology.
I hope you make more Witcher videos, they are great. It is truly fascinating how the Witcher and Elder Scrolls have taken 2 different approaches when it comes to lycanthropes and were creatures.
I honestly can't figure out why, but for some reason, the Morkvarg quest filled me with more dread than almost any other quest in the game - even though it's relatively tame! Even when I go to replay I put that quest off because it fills me with anxiety.
I started the Morkvarg quest before I met with Yennefer so my game bugged out pretty bad the first time I played it. Certain items and Morkvarg himself wouldn't spawn but the witcher senses were telling me all the lore
love how curses work in witcher. there was one comic(that happends after witcher 3) where you could see the whole process and how much of an inpact a few words can have.
Bruh, that bitch deserved death, the guy got curse and did EVERYTHING in his power to protect his family and keep them safe and guess what, Margaret decides to send his wife to him in a animalistic state when he has no control nor memories all because she wanted to get in his pants. His story is truly a sad one that wouldn't have occur were Margaret to not intervene.
Thank you for having Witcher content as I'm new to it from the show. Between you, Witcher George, and Proper Bird I'm getting a crash course and am looking forward to the games and books. I love it when a good piece of media lives in other (if different) forms. :)
The take on Beauty and the Beast in Last Wish is most interesting. The Pirates curse reminded me of that tale. While not the same since the beast is still in possession of his human reasoning and the Witcher was able to spend the night in the Beast home, unlike the pirate.
As it turns out, it's not to punish them in the mortal plain. It's to ease the average man's morals so he can more easily do what he should have from the start.
I just love how accurately the Withcher games portray the creatures from the slavic mythology. By the way for those who love lore, in the slavic mythos the werewolf stand way above the vampires. Back in the days when we were still pagans the beasts were venerated almost as demi-deities, our tribes often taking some animals as totem animal. My tribe had the wolf as one and that is why we still have names like Vulko, Vulkan or Vicho as names. Creatures created from bestial souls are more powerfull and highier in the hierarchy than those created by cursed human soul. Vampires or Upiri in the medieval slavic were the petty remains of the shades of men who led a life of vice and in their death they refused to simply fade away. In order to maintain and eventually raise their dead body they pray upon their loved ones, relatives and neighbours in their sleep trying to sap away their life force, often killling them in the process. A single vampire can kill entire villages in order to raise it's corpse, many times the poor victims also became vampires. If the vampire manages to raise its body then the vampire blends in the society and is extremely difficult to spot. He/She can even have children with unsuspicious humans, however the child will be born without a soul because the vampire doesn't have one and the divine spark will refuse to possses the offspring of an tainted creature. Vampirism is more of a disease than anything.
@@elijahbutcher9522 As a slav who was raised with tales like these I have a hard time understanding what's with the western's world obsession with death. Why so many games and movies about vampires, zombies etc.?
