      @goofistmcnutty3280 11 месяцев назад +14

@@BiggChinese These are just my thoughts but I don't think they're as similar as people make 'em out to be. They both value discretion and stealth in the work maybe, but that's about where I'd say they split. The two schools have verily different moral's/principles. Cat's are more ruthless and out for blood while Vipers are a bit more orderly and conducted. Another way to look at it is that Cat's enjoy killing while Vipers are just very numb to it. In terms of combat, Cat's rely a fair bit more on stealth (they don't want to be seen at all), while Vipers rely more on planning and execution (risking being seen if it gets the job done more efficiently) which usually offers more opportunity for stealth some some schools, but they are also more willing (than the Cat's) to straight up fight too, when needed. At least it seems that way to me. I also think that Cat's have been more loose with what jobs they're willing to take for a long time, whereas Vipers (usually) try to stick to monster hunting more like the Wolves and Bears do aside from around the time of Geralt's story line. It's only really then that the Viper school started become assassins in an attempt to keep their school going. None of this is stated but just by what I've seen in their each school's lore, it's the conclusions I've come to.

@@devon596 yeah the Bears' whole deal was autonomy and self reliance. Back when there was just one Witcher school, the early Griffins tried to enforce their knightly virtues on all Witchers, and the Bears railed against such "outdated traditions". Tensions rose till a series of fights broke out and the Bears left to form their own school based on the idea that Witchers shouldn't be asked to do more than kill monsters for coin, and not be forced to follow a specific philosophy. In the case of Ivo, that belief extended to their own fighting tactics. Ivo is said to be a perfect Bear Witcher despite not fighting like them, since it was his solitary attitude that made him a perfect example of the Bears.

Considering the book that makes witchers out to be monsters is written by a mage, i think it's entirely probable that the griffin school could have been another reason to provoke the killing of witchers. Mages created witchers, and now a witcher is invited into kingly courts. Considering how vain and arrogant mages can be, i wouldn't be surprised at all if some mages got pushed out of the limelight, and began to retaliate against witchers. There certainly isn't a shortage of mages that look down on them.

That reference was only for one Witcher mainly. The reference was made to Gaetan a side quest character in the Witcher 3. Gaetan is a cat Witcher who took a contract to kill a leshen, he completed it but the alderman only offered him 12 gold a very small sum of money for what he did. He objected and they said they had hidden more gold in a barn. When Gaetan got there though it was an ambush and they were going to try and kill him the alderman and most of the peasants. So Gaetan lost is and in a bid to survive started killing rapidly. Before he knew it he had slaughtered a good portion of the village. Anyways, it wasn’t because of the low pay, he slaughtered the village defending himself. Just like Geralt did in Blaviken.

@@narcisis4147 i wouldn't compare that situatian with the one geralt faced in blaviken. Geralt fought and killed bandits in an attempt to impede a carnage to take place, ironically and so bitterly, that was exactly what caused the carnage, since it apparently would not have taken place like he feared it would without his interference. Gaetan, at first, acted in means of self defense, and killed the 3 men that were actively trying to kill him, then however stepped out of the barn and began a killing spree. A lot tried to flee, but he still mowed them down, perhaps also because he feared that they would rat him out, since there is a bounty on all cat school witchers and the villagers most likely tried to hand him in from the moment, they realized he is from the cat school, since the edlerman of the village was particulary well off, wich is something you can find out rummaging the village, in this quest. I also let him live, and probably always will be, but the situations geralt and gaetan found themselves in are still vastly different from each other.

Heress what i managed to dig up about the school of the lynx
(Withcer 3 and possibly 4 spoilers below read at your own risk)
The origins of the School of the Lynx can be traced back to two events in the late 1260s and early 1270s. The first event was the fall of the Dyn Marv caravan in 1269, resulting in the dispersion of the surviving Cat Witchers and, to some extent, the partial extinction of the School of the Cat. This prompted a group of these survivors to come together with the intention of reclaiming the caravan from the soldiers who had captured it. The second event was the official extinction of the School of the Wolf in 1273 when its remaining members, including notable individuals such as Eskel, Geralt of Rivia, and Lambert, separated after Vesemir's death. Other less relevant but important figures in the future, such as Adalwulf of Aedirn, eventually joined the School of the Fox.
Eskel, continuing his role as the last active member of the School of the Wolf, marched east, and his fate afterward became unknown. Geralt eventually retired in Toussaint. Lambert, marching south and accompanied by his lover Keira Metz, embarked on a quest for a new life. It was through Lambert's eventual crossing of paths with this group of survivors that the School of the Lynx eventually came into existence.
The School of the Lynx as such emerged following a brief discussion among a group of Cat School survivors composed of Gaetan, Dragonfly, and Joël, along with Lambert, a witcher of the School of the Wolf and Aiden's friend, and the mage Keira Metz. After a chance encounter, they decided to unite their efforts to reclaim a caravan. Lambert, driven by a desire to honor his late friend Aiden and inspired by a change of heart regarding the witcher´s life following Vesemir's death, took on the role of leader.
Following their discussion, Lambert proposed a comprehensive reform, marking the third and most radical transformation of the Cat School, turning it into the School of the Lynx. Accepting the proposal, the other members of the Cat School appointed Lambert as their leader, with Dragonfly serving as his deputy, ensuring leadership continuity in case Lambert was unavailable, and vice versa.
Under Lambert's guidance and with Keira's assistance, the school underwent reconstruction and reorganization, recovering surviving Cat members on their journeys and Keira playing a crucial role in researching and recovering mutagens, contributing to the school's revitalization. This research by the sorceress, eventually resulted in a groundbreaking discovery in 1290-the cure for the Catriona Plague. The immunity possessed by witchers proved instrumental in this breakthrough, providing a solution to the terrible illness.
However, Lambert's reform weren't met with unanimous approval. A small group of Cat School survivors clung to the old ways, refusing to embrace the changes. These dissenters continued to call themselves Cats, with most of them finding refuge in the ruins of Stygga Castle during the harsh winters. Their resistance proved short-lived, though. By the 1380s, this holdout faction of the Cat School faded into obscurity, presumably succumbing to various threats or simply dying out. Their last member being Jolanta Dinmarb, who by 1381, joined Putnam Pitch and his School of the Crane, becoming the second grandmaster and co-foundress of the already mentioned school.the early 1290s, the Second Witcher Tournament took place, organized by the School of the Lynx. The purpose was twofold: to determine the number of remaining witchers and to demonstrate the transformation of the Cat School to survivors from various schools. This included active ones (producing very few members) like the Griffin, as well as semi-active or rebuilt ones like the Bear and Fox. The tournament occurred at Kaer Morhen, the former stronghold of the extinct School of the Wolf, used occasionally by the Lynxes during harsh winters before their complete relocation to the Western Continent. The event also served as compensation to the other schools for the failed plot by King Radowit II to destroy witchers in the first tournament, offering a complete tournament instead.
Approximately 105 participants attended the tournament, including around 20 Griffins, 35 Lynxes, 20 Foxes, 20 Bears, and 10 individuals from completely destroyed schools, mainly Vipers. Non-witcher guests were invited to serve as impartial observers or authorities' representatives, to reinforce the notion that all witchers were an honorable guild.
The tournament prize was Tomas Moreau's work, something a certain famous retired witcher no longer found useful but could benefit any witcher at Kaer Morhen. The competition comprised physical tests and later duels within an improvised arena. Groups of 20 from one school or different schools combined if their numbers were not enough would undertake a series of physical tests, and the group with the highest number of participants completing them would progress to the next round. This process continued until eight participants remained, competing against each other in the arena until a winner emerged.
The tournament lasted approximately two weeks, with Cervin of the School of the Bear emerging as the unexpected winner. Cervin then generously offered Moreau's work documents to Putnam. He did this as a gesture of goodwill, without asking for any compensation, recalling their past conflict in Toussaint, and out of "friendship," recognizing Putnam's genuine interest. Putnam later gave a copy of Moreau's work to the mage Jabolet, solidifying the path of new mutations for the already mentioned future School of the Crane that he, along with Jolanta Dinmarb, would establish.
Although they did not win the tournament, Lambert's intention to demonstrate the change he had achieved by leading the reformed Cat School was a reality. This led to him regaining the respect of the other schools, with the exception of the Griffin School, which still did not trust them.
In addition, prior to that year, due to sentimental issues with Lambert, Keira Metz was no longer serving as the School mage and had been replaced by various mages, including Adolar Wagner, Perignon, and Franz Kniprode. Furthermore, it was during the tournament that Putnam Pitch persuaded Lambert to posthumously bestow the title of a School of the Lynx Witcheress upon the late Tubiel of Brenna, as her actions were in alignment with the philosophy of the Lynxes.
Long after its founding in the 18th century, similar to the School of the Crane, the School of the Lynx would incorporate early versions of guns into its monster-fighting equipment.
    Characteristics
    Armor
Unlike their Cat School predecessors, who favored light armors, the Lynxes opted for a more practical approach to armor. While retaining a degree of flexibility for their signature agility, they prioritized sturdier materials like studded leather and reinforced gambisons. This offered better protection against stronger monsters without sacrificing the swiftness needed for their acrobatic fighting style.

First choice I’d be with the Griffin School, like being a magic user and a swordsman and the scholarly and knightly angle is pretty fire. Second choice would be the Wolf School and third choice the Viper School.

i feel like school of the wolf is the obvious choice and would probably be my first pick but school of the gryphon would also be really cool

In season 4 of the witcher Netflix Ciri may actually meet up with the School of the Manticore after being teleported in the Korath Desert because it was mentioned that those witchers usually protect Caravans and make their money off that business. This is some major spoilers I'm mentioning here

I imagine a student of the Griffin school who passed the trial by reciting the book perfectly with a griffin egg balanced upon their head.

I often wonder if some witchers would travel to other schools to learn other skills.
Example: A School of the Bear witcher that wanted to better his skill with signs would travel to the School of the Griffin in search of training and study.

Not really sure, some of the schools probably didn't like each other. The original Vipers were a breakaway from the Bears so they'd already be familiar with their training.
The Griffin's were friendly with the Wolves, and Coën, a Griffin witcher did travel to Kaer Morhen and help train Ciri after the destruction of his order

I'm pretty Wolf school with leanings toward bear school tendencies. I think Wolves are overall better rounded witchers, but that the bears are the specialized big guns.
