- Paper used in this video: square with a side length of 15 cm (6 in)
Finished model: diameter of 8.75 cm (3 1/2 in), width of 6 cm (2 3/8 in), height of 1.25 cm (1/2 in)
This video describes how to fold a fantastic origami rose brooch designed by Sy Chen. The design is based on the rose brooch designed by Toshie Takahama, Sy's version includes a color-change for the leaves.
The brooch is the perfect present for that special someone - your girlfriend, best friend, mother, daughter - or anyone that loves wearing flower brooches! Maybe even yourself? :)
The great thing about giving someone else origami as a gift is that it shows you care and spent time to make something for them yourself. This makes it a wonderful token for that next Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, birthday or everyday thank you - and you just need a piece of paper for it! And, if you want to make an actual brooch out of it, a lapel pin or something similar.
Sy Chen kindly gave me permission to make this video accessible to you.
Diagrams are published on Sy Chen's website freedomi.brinkster.net/Sy/ - also check out his other work there!

Oh thank you, Sara. I had forgotten how wonderful this model is! It's great to see that it has become easier to fold with time, and your meticulous directions. Thank you, again!
You're welcome. It's great to hear that it's become easier for you to fold the model over the years. It's a clear sign of your progress in your origami journey. :)
Thank you 🌹
Thanks for sharing this wonderful design from Sy Chen and for the clear explanations :-)
You're welcome!
Lovely Rose Brooch! I 'm definately going to use that to decorate wrapped presents!! Thank you for this great tutorial, Sara!
You're welcome, I'm sure people will add the personal touch to your presents!
whoa, crazy flashback. after the first fold i had expected to see a dotted line to show the crease. so much flashback. happy to see the video.
also, that is an interesting way to fold the petals and collapsing the model (around the 5 min mark),. never thought of doing it like that. seems to make it easier to make it more clean and symmetrical.
Yes, while folding the model to prep for the new video, I tried this out and found it made things a bit easier.
Night and day to your first Rose Brooch tutorial. Well done!
Thanks, that's great to hear!
Beautiful as always. And perfect timing too! I guess I'm going to be making these all over the place...
Thanks, that's great to hear!
Danke!
Hey Sara, Folded the square interlace box for my sister's birthday in Aug, with the same pattern bracelet to go inside. This gives me enough time to do another box, but include this lapel pin. I love the design.
Sounds perfect!
Great tutorial, i love how you give the dimensions of the finished model
Thanks, I'm glad to hear you appreciate the size guide.
Delightful work as always, thank you for remaking this video!
You're welcome. I hope I'll find the time to do a bunch more remakes.
Can't wait! Meanwhile did this one today. Super easy with your indications. scontent-eze1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/q83/p526x296/19884078_1929503743984128_3738352867705580084_n.jpg?oh=4760114637c08a4d6b3462fb5b9f9bc2&oe=59FF6D34
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! I've been looking at some similar models, but this rose is just lovely, and I like the color change so much. Now I'm thinking of folding a whole rose garden. )
Melilotta me too. I'm also trying to work out how much I would need to colour on the white side to either make the leaves green or the rose a different colour depending on what paper I'm using....
The easiest method for this is to fold one model, color the sections you're interested in it, then unfold the model. This gives you a template to work with for coloring the paper nicely and then fold the actual pieces.
If you do, do send me a photo. :)
Oh, great idea for different-coloured roses! Never coloured the paper before, think I should try this, too.
Beautiful, like all the content you share with us. Thanks and regards.
You're welcome!
Loved it totally. Thanks Sara for such a wonderful tutorial. :)
You're welcome!
Beautiful 👍💕🌺
Thanks!
Great design!
Love it a lot!
Thanks!
This is a beautiful model! Great work!! Is it possible that in the future you could teach like a complex flower cause I love the bases that you use for more complex flowers.
I'm always looking for new ideas, so thanks for your suggestion!
Can't wait to make this! Going to give it to someone I know who's moving away...
That's very thoughtful of you.
I waited so long for a two-colored version of this model, so many thanks for this newer tutorial! Could you suggest me where I can purchase red-and-green papers, please?
You could try this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B009RIGS1Q
Amazing!

Nice!!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
so you will not gonna do the black forest cuckatoo by robert j. lang?? 😢😢😢😭😭😭
Why do you say that? I haven't decided yet, but in either case, it wouldn't happen this year. I plan ahead quite a few months, but I am currently putting together the list of models I want to present in 2018. Maybe the BFCC will be on there.
