Surprised they actually left the vintage ads in this clip...they usually edit them out
It depends on who uploads the video. RUclips doesn't remove ads from old shows. There are videos on here that are all old commercials.
They’re great aren’t they? Now I want so Pooh-rated clothes. Don’t forget the “h”!
@@MrDubyadee1 Gary Coleman was in that ad.
Cool to see my past television shows and especially the ads. 👍🏻
Wow, that Pooh-rated clothes commercial is just so awful. I can't imagine being the older boy singing and marching around to tell everyone how great Pooh Bear clothes are.
Mark Hamill has always interviewed well, it's incredible
He's probably a little chattier than a typical host would prefer. Johnny had to backtrack a couple of times to finish the point he was trying to make. But better than the opposite, of course.
It's quite re _mark_ able
@@Turtle00001 Your comment is truly on the _mark_ .

So refreshing to see the original response and feedback from 1977 Star Wars. I was just entering grade 5 when it was released in 70mm Dolby. Such fond, fond memories.
Grade 5? Are you Australian or Canadian?
@@Aaliyahchannel2024 Canadian. So 5th year of Primary school
I hadn't started Kindergarten yet till September of 1977 that year.
I try not to confuse nostalgia …for great art. I also loved Star Wars…but except for innovation in special-effects…it was a pretty stupid movie.
An intergalactic western! Excellent phrase . Awful that Netflix can’t show them being usurped by Disney plus .
As a 14 year old kid seeing that movie on the big screen n 1977, I remember being totally captivated by the special effects. That kind of realism had never been done up to that time. And now, as a 60 year old today, I still enjoy watching it occasionally.
I was born 363 days after this interview aired.
Lucas didn't love the effects he replaced them with cgi.
14, also, in 1977! 😁😎 Oh how I wish I could go back to that era. ❤
Happy Star Wars day everyone! May the force be with you!
May the Force be with you, always.
Mark Hamill was and is such a good story teller, and how I miss Johnny Carson! And I especially miss the simplicity of the 70's! A bygone ERA of movies and television, and incredible talent, you just don't see anymore!
Thank you for leaving the commercials in. It is a blast to see the vintage ads and a bit melancholy for product and stores that no longer exist. Also thank you for leaving in the musical beds with Doc and the band, they were there for local station continuity but it’s wonderful to hear that orchestra play.
I'm pretty sure that the first commercial here stars a slightly older Mikey from the famous Life Cereal commercial.
Edit: or maybe one of the older boys from that spot.
As classic as the interview is, nothing beats seeing some of those retro commercials.
I was almost expecting one with Jessie White, the Maytag Repair Man.
Gary Coleman is one of the kids in the second ad!
Poo rated clothes
@@imc440that one killed me
Still remember as a 12 year old the impact STAR WARS had on me and culture in general at that time. Have never seen a film have such a influence since.
I’m going through a rabbit hole of binge watching Star Wars related interviews
If you were lucky enough to see Star Wars ('A New Hope' was not a thing back then) on the big screen, you know it was one of the coolest things ever. As a kid growing up in the 70s, I had the t-shirt, and even though I was called a nerd by some, I rocked it proudly. Cinema isn't what it used to be, and cultural moments like that are exceedingly rare, but it was pretty special seeing those opening words describing the Hero's Journey about to unfold dissolve into infinite twilight, hear the crash and bang of William's score, as attack ships blazed across the black, celluloid sky.
Bless John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra. The music made the movie feel all the more epic.
@@TheEman590 Amen. The man is a musical genius.
@@quintbromley2112 Absolutely. The Spielberg movies, Superman, Home Alone, Harry Potter, etc. John is one of the best film composers. Definitely in my top ten with Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Elmer Bernstein, Alan Silvestri, Ennio Morricone, Akira Ifukube (Godzilla), Hanz Zimmer, Danny Elfman, and so on.
@TheEman590 Well said and absolutely agree. I would add Bernard Herman to the mix as well. 🍻
@@quintbromley2112 Oh, how could I forget him? I heard his music watching Hitchcock movies. We have him to thank for the Psycho Strings.
I was 6 years old when Star Wars was released. For the majority of kids of my Generation (X) it was our first Film we saw in a Movie theater.
1977-1983 brought about the Star Wars blitz, the magnitude of which hasn't been seen before or since, and won't be repeated. Seemingly every day on television, there was something about the movies. I am proud to have seen it in a theater in 1977. Thank you for this segment. Luke Skywalker sitting next to HooDoo???? What a blast!!
Agreed. Saw Star, Empire, and Return in the theater.
The Simpsons in the 90s was up there. As was Trump from 2015-2020
@@WakaWaka2468 Both are garbage.
Possibly the Harry Potter movies/books are comparable.
If Mark Hamill sitting next to Charles Nelson Reilly and Ed McMahon on the set of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson isn't ***THE*** most 70's thing ever, then I would like to see what actually is.
Fact check: TRUE!
Saw Star Wars when it debut in 1977 I was twelve. I’m now 58 and still a huge fan.
It's objectively trash now what are you talking about?
@@upsidedownopinion1440 IKR
Me too! Only movie I saw five times in the theater...and I hated space-themed movies.
We knew of course that the Jimmy Fallons, and Kimmels and whoevers of today can't hold a candle to Johny Carson, those days are gone. But It's so surprising to see how openly Mark Hamill talks and how funny he is. Actors don't talk like this in today's interviews. It's so refreshing to watch but also kind of sad that it was 50 years ago.
My son was born the day that movie came out.
The commercials are also excellent.
This is the birthplace of his Harrison Ford impression lol.
I liked that the band played the disco version of the theme.
"We don't have to know why the bad guys were bad." I'm pretty sure we're missing that sentiment again.
1:49
"And it's just for pure fun, you don't have to sit and say 'what is the message behind this'?"
Never really understood why Mark Hamill didn't become a bigger movie star. He's a very good actor.
Bc he had a really bad car accident 😮
He's a whiney little beeyatch, just like Luke Skywalker.
@@biggj21 Harrison Ford went through a windshield, too, but somehow it made him look more rugged. Johnny, on the other hand, went through some wives!
@@murrynathan *rimshot*🥁i loved guyver too
A combination of bad timing, becoming typecast as a pretty boy, and, while talented, didn't have the same charisma that Harrison Ford had. Still his voice acting career worked out well for him, one of the best cartoon Jokers of any Batman show. Also fun to see him in those Wing Commander games. Find his episode of the Muppet Show, it's hilarious.
man, mark really was an amazing storyteller. no wonder he's such a good voice actor.
that alex guinness impression was spot on! not only did his voice transformed from a kid to an old man, his overall demeanour changed, the same way when he does his joker lines in the booth.
Wow, what a classic!
Mark Hamill was really handsome back then.
crazy this happened before my mom was born
I’ve really gotta get around to seeing that movie!
I want Mark’s energy.
Was that Gary Coleman in the Pooh rate clothes commercial? I sure love watching Jonny Carson
Good eye! It could be. I found the same commercial by searching "Gary Coleman Sears Commercial."
I'd say yes.
I caught that, too.
yes, that definitely was Gary Coleman, from about 6:08 to about 6:35.
Yeah. He was only 36 years old when he did that commercial. One of his earliest acting jobs.
Love the end passing comment of "you're doing a sequel..... (Hammel) : yeah!... and now a message from Sears!"
May the fourth be with you. Cheers 🍻
I remember...I was 10. Went to the theatre. My brother told me about it couple of months before.I hadn't heard...said ..it's called Star...Wars... I didn't hear that as a title but as a literal descriptive term..kinda funny now..then they had TV show...the Making of..remember that..
I got to see Star Wars after it had been out for roughly a month after its relelase in 1977. I didnt know anything about the film before walking into the theater that day but after seeing it, it was all that occupied my mind for the next few years.
Return of the Jedi's my Favourite Star Wars film.. ...always (thus far) has been. Not sure why; but it's a Christmas/New Years Staple.
Gotta be the Ewoks.

Yep. That's why they put this clip out.

Mark is a very funny man!
His comedic timing is great.
I am going out on a limb, but is that Gary Coleman in the Pooh-Rated Clothes Commercial?
Yep
That is my thought as well
mark dominating the whole room as always
Pretty sure the kid with the dog was in the classic Life commercial with Mikey
Yeah.
Charles Nelson Reilly randomly there lol
The commercial for the dog food had Mikey from Life cereal and the Winnie the Pooh clothing commerical had Gsry Coleman.
Met marks wife in Ohio. She was very nice. She sent me an autograph pic of Mark in the 80s!
Wow. Even the commercials.
This America will be lost in time forever and it sad
Carson was the best
a new hope
Is that Gary Coleman in the Sears commercial?
$191 million is $964 million in 2023 dollars.
Lovin those 70s bell bottoms Mark.
Interesting they left a couple of commercials from back in the day in.
I love Mark Hamal ! He was in Star Wars and that one movie with Linda Blair in 1975 Where Linda played Mark s friend ! Mark is a great actor ! Is he still alive does anyone know and Ill look it up first !
Star wars was some good movies but I don't care for Mark all that much he comes off as condescending. But he is still alive and postes on social media all the time.
He's always crying about SOMETHING on Twitter, signaling his massive virtue. 🤢
Corvette Summer
It’s funny hearing him talk about the lines. I’ve always felt that George was terrible at dialogue and the biggest part of the prequels that sucked was no one stood up to his dumb dialogue like Mark could in the 70s.
Interesting to see that Mark still thought he is going to bang the princess - but nope - it was supposed the other guy, that Pirate Dude 😂 and hey - not even mentioning that that chick was ending up to be your sister - sorry pal 😆 - the rest is History and this is certainly a great historical document - thanks for sharing.
Really seems like Carson can't stop talking here lol
It's strange to associate his softer young voice with his Joker voice.
It was great hearing them talk about the simplicity of Star Wars, how it was Good vs Evil devoid of all of the nuances and social commentary that they try to force upon viewers these days.
No disrespect towards any of the, initial triumvirate of star wars films here but there are films Before.. but especially After Any and All of These that Possess REAMS More Intellegencia in the Specific Departments of Minutae and Commentary of which you speak..
A Number of which Do So in Stellar, if not Superior Fashion too.. . ...
Are you telling me Luke Skywalker came on AFTER Charles Nelson Reilly?
Just for some context, $191 million is about $8 billion today. Crazy.
The comedian Mark was telling stories about is Jack Purvis, heres only clip of him I could find ruclips.net/video/wg5ULQm8BBk/видео.html
The princess is his sister 😮
Age 26 here.
Well we know them all today
i want some Pooh Rated clothes!
That's Gary Coleman in the pooh-rated clothes ad!
Cmon Lucas would allow the clip
Nothing will convince me that those weren’t better times. Better shows. Better stars. Better movies. American Presidents who didn’t incite insurrections. Yeah. I sure miss those days.
These ads are weird, they don’t teeter on the edge of mental torture/propaganda
I was seven years old when Star Wars was first released. It's the movie that did more to shape a generation than pretty much any other. Star Wars more or less became a religion for me as a kid after seeing it in the theater for the first time. As such, I consider Disney Star Wars as heretical and blasphemous. May the original films endure for generations to come.
CNR
Then they ruined the character. Thanks Disney.
Thanks to Rian Johnson, specifically.
Good lord. They even had a black kid in the ads back then. Good ol' days! When everything was nice and good, right?
Crying shame they kicked him out of the series and left him on that deserted planet to rot away.
Waaaaay back before the accident that destroyed his good looks
Fake Jan singing for Pooh rated clothes 😅
Woke Hamill? Corvette Summer.
I liked the wheel/tire combination on that Vette for the time period.
@@user-br3ou2cs9o Stingray
@@markbirchette8740
"Stingray".. What's your point?
In the movie they used a 1973 C3 Corvette, or Vette for short, chassis with aftermarket turbine wheels. Factory for '73 was a Rally wheel with Chrome Cap and Chrome Ring.
Sting Ray, separate words, used for the 1963 - 1967 C2 generation.
Stingray used the second time by Chevy, one word, and used only for the 1969 - 1976 C3 generation.
@@user-br3ou2cs9o Stingray is my favorite body style. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I know what they used, I brought it up. It'll always be one word to me.🖕 Douchebag.
Is he gay?
Ridiculous comment
Mark Hammel? Wasn’t he a ONE-ROLE celebrity?
No. He was on General Hospital. He played Mozart and The Elephant Man on Broadway. He voiced The Joker for 3 decades. And of course, he was in 6 of the highest-grossing films of all time.
How many roles have you played on stage and screen?
@@electricfootballhero1349 - Star Wars legacy wasn’t Mark Hammel or the mentally ill Carrie Fisher, it was CGI. George Lucas, who could’ve made any film he wanted, instead…made the same one OVER and OVER and OVER again. Star Wars almost single handedly killed THE STORY in Hollywood films, becoming instead a platform for…an excuse for, endless CGI. George Lucas famously said “I don’t care about story, I care about technology”. For Mark Hammel to brag about his Star Wars credentials would be like me bragging about SEEING the film!
I'm the only one in the world who doesn't like Star Wars.
Congratulations!

@@January.And what was the point of your comment...
"Corvette Summer" was marginally more interesting than any of that Star Wars nonsense he ever did.
With Annie Potts. I found the Rifftrax of that film.
@@TheEman590 She was a hottie!
@@allendracabal0819 She was indeed. I've seen her on Designing Women.
Contrast this with Harrison Ford, who needs to be put on an amphetamine drip to show any degree of enthusiasm.
I was under the impression that Mark just recently became a woke, far left nut job, but it seems he was ALWAYS a nut job. Weird dude. A shame what they've done to a once great franchise. Wokeness kills everything in its path.
There are on set clips and out takes of Hamill with Alec Guinness and it was obvious the latter had no time for the former with his loud goofiness.
Do us a favor and do an internet search relating to conservative or right-wing IQ levels. In general, the people you call "woke" and "left-wing [nut job]" are more intelligent than you. The contempt you are expressing is most likely a projection of your own feelings of inferiority.
