  • In this interview in 1980, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford talk about The Empire Strikes Back (Star Wars V The Empire Strikes Back). They discuss creating the characters of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, working on films between the two Star Wars movies, what little they know about Star Wars VI Return of the Jedi which they refer to as Revenge of the Jedi and the symbolism of characters in Star Wars.
From 1974 to 2000, Canada’s Brian Linehan conducted thousands of in-depth interviews with the greatest actors and directors from over 60 years of film history. His programs City Lights and Linehan have not been seen since they first aired and are now available for the first time for licensing. Linehan, a stylishly gifted broadcaster, meticulously did all his own research and that, coupled with his knowledge and passion about film and filmmaking, puts him in a class all by himself.
With 20,000 hours of music footage spanning 90 years and thousands of hours of in-depth interviews with the 20th century’s icons of Film and Television, Politics, Comedy, Literature, Art, Science, Fashion and Sports, Reelin’ In The Years Productions is now the World’s Premier Source For Footage Of Musical Artists, Entertainers & History Makers.

Brian Linehan, who passed away in 2004, left his entire estate to The Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation to provide training, work opportunities and promotion for young actors of exceptional talent. All of the income of his Foundation is donated to not-for-profit institutions for that purpose. In the decade since his death, recipients of the Foundation’s support have included extraordinary young actors affiliated with the Canadian Film Centre, The National Screen Institute of Canada, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, which, since Brian's passing, has preserved and housed Brian's personal archive and tape library.

It's so interesting. You look at an actor like Harrison Ford and you think he doesn't get along with a lot of people or let people in his circle. But seeing how comfortable he is sitting next to Mark, silly man child looking guy, and they look like close friends.

IT was sad to hear about Mark's broken nose -- and allegedly near fatal crash -- but his "new" face for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, in my opinion, added to his character's growth as a Jedi Knight and really as a grown man. By Return of the Jedi, Luke was no longer a farm boy.

Mark Hamill is such a captivating speaker, if he were my grandpa I would go over to his house to hear him talk all the time. I guess that's why he's such a good voice actor

These interviewers and actors from this time period were so much more genuine and intelligible than today.

Harrison Ford: "Dude. I"m not Han Solo. I just needed a job."

Harrison is really bad at this (or totally indifferent), lol. Hamill was on it! Funny how both their answers and attitudes really reflect how they view their roles in these movies in hindsight today. Mark understood the importance of his role as Luke, and Harrison wanted Han to die (and he got his wish.)

Harrison Ford is the kind who plays iconic characters perfectly, yet doesn't want to be recognised or treated as an icon

The actors in the 3 original Star Wars films had such charisma and personality that is lacking in the other actors in the other prequels / sequels. A golden time in Hollywood.
