I've checked the published spec sheets. The AMD variant has a m.2 2242 and a 2280 slots. The Intel variant has x 2 m.2 2242 slots. It's very odd. Given that the 2242 size is difficult to find, I will be getting the AMD variant. Thank you for this video. It's been very helpful for me

By the way. This is the intel model. The AMD model is different as this also supports M2 2280 SSDs, while the intel one only supports M2 2242

truly a disfunctional machine, it probably took a lot of work to come up with so many unnecessary compromises... 2 half-sized slots for nvme, partially soldered ram, super small battery, underwhelming cooling, all of this in a 15 inch laptop with 40% of available space going unused. not to mention awful displays, even the higher tier ones. so glad I don't own it

2x M.2 2242 is double disappointing. I was able to upgrade the wi-fi to Intel AX411. Lenovo also put too much paste thermal, as all those manufacturers do.

Luckily i got the amd version as this one also supports the 2280 ssds

Is there any functional reason for the reduction of M.2 slots, apart from the fact that the customer cannot easily get a alternative SSD into notebook? Common consumer's SSDs are all in 2280. 2242 are often low quality disks.
As well as fixed RAM direct on the motherboard. Although the failure rate of RAM is small, when this happens you can throw out the whole board and put in a new one. Which won't be cheap after the warranty expires. Ahaaa, actually it'll be more profitable to buy another one laptop 😕.
I was considering the Gen 4 until I saw the disassembled chassis and M.2 slots view in this video. They start producing E series as laptops for one time use, what is a real pity.

      same feelings.
i was looking at gen 3 e14 in the lenovo site and came across gen 4 , but totally disappointed on the reduced m.2 slot and cheap looking motherboard

@@neeravdaskrishna7004 I considered also for Gen3, but unfortunately it's only in AMD platform. AMD is not bad for unassuming users, but his slowest one-thread power is noticable in some applications like Illustrator, Photoshop etc. Good news is that smaller M.2 slot is only in Intel version Gen4. AMD version Gen4 has still two different M.2 slots (second for 2282 NVMe). I had first impressions with E14 Gen4 yesterday in version with R7 5825U and it's nothing amazing. I found too stiff hinges, audible crackling when opening / closing the display, strong coil whining NVMe during writing operations (there was installed KIOXIA KBG5AZNT512G with much lower values of read-write 2114 MBs / 2713.83 MBs than installed SAMSUNG or HYNIX SSDs in previous generations of E14). I already requested RMA. Another knowledges was with CPU - it can easily reach 92°C in multithread benchmark Cinebench R23 (Tjmax of this CPU is only 95°C) and it was impossible to make anything soft operation (f.e. web browsing) during which the fan would not spin. Playing video file (standard HD, even low resolution, not 4K) - CPU temps was around 60°C. The only situation when the fan does not spin is when the desktop is empty with no applications, but that's not reason why you buy a laptop :)
I really liked E14 Gen2 with i5-1135U in combination with dedicated GPU MX450, it has enough performance even for today, but it seems that whole this series has problem with strong coil whining from USB-C port during IDLE state or powered-off device plugged into electricity (I held two same models with same problems, forums are full of this information).
L series seems to have a problem with an untuned BIOS (at least in terms of cooling - high temps during IDLE and the fan is constantly running). Reviews of the T14 Gen2 series say about the twisting construction of the base / palmrest and poorly dimensioned cooling. To be honest, I don't know what is actually worth buying from LENOVO. If you will need docking feature, it will bring you back to LENOVO, HP, DELL of which LENOVO is probably the one with the least problems. However, it is necessary to emphasize the improvement of quality to the manufacturer, because in the current state, I would prefer to stay with the old T430, if it would satisfy with the performance.
I think that last good pieces that I held in hands was E485 and LENOVO's first experiments with T series and AMD CPUs, which has label A485. It's been downhill since then ...

Hi guys. I see, you are good in hardware and ssd topics. Could you help me. I am trying to understand why my new thinkpad e15 gen 4 doesn't see the ssd that I plug into the second ssd slot on motherboard. So i have 250Gb m2 pcie gen3 x 2 ssd (it is probably m+b key because it has two grooves on connectors row from both sides, but i am not 100% sure). This drive is working and I took it from the recently broken 2019 ideapad. I know that this drive is working because i bought usb ssd reader for it and it works. But when i use it in my new thinkpad motherboard, neither bios, nor windows sees it. Thank you in advance

@@stanislavdidenko8436 Go to the Partition Manager there you need to give your Drive A Name as example maindrive "C:" then you can call it "F:"
Thats why it is not showing in the Data Folder.

What about dual channel mode when add 32 GB RAM stick addiditionally to 8 GB onboard RAM? Since Iris Xe graphics require dual-channel RAM, otherwise it goes into low-performance UHD mode
