This is a review of the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 4 Laptop PC. This version has an AMD Ryzen 5 5625U 6-Core Processor

That massive dead space is for the non-solid state drive they sell as an option for that laptop. I just got this for under 500 with the AMD ryzen 7 cpu in it, and it came with 16 GB ram. So far, it's a good buy as I'm upgrading from the Thinkpad x220 is over 20yrs old.

I've been looking at this PC and the only thing that bothers me is there's no dedicated USB-C; I plan on leaving my laptop plugged in most of the time meaning I won't be able to take advantage of that port

It has battery working so long..you don't need it to be plugged in often
Would 512 gb be enough storage for a writer who will be using the laptop strictly for writing/researching?

Nice video but if you could talk more about air vents (exhaust) which is missing. 🙂
1- only two USB and one USB-C (old version had 4 USB and 1 USB-C and as you can see there is a lot of space from inside......)
2-there is no fan controller and the fan always running even when you do nothing
3-eight gig of RAM is not enough in 2022-2023 (I open firefox 5+ tabs, two excel files and its done)
4-batery life is a massive joke (yes yes you can reach 5 hours if you turn off everything and the laptop gonna be slow and unusable)
5-not big deal but the speakers are simple trash (I know its the "work book" but hey there is 2022-2023....)
Only + is the display is better then the old versions
My opinion is rather choose HP elitbook
I have this laptop and wondering since I'm running Windows 11 and Quicken Premiere if because there is only 8GB of RAM it is causing Quicken to run so slow. Mine only has the Ryzen3 5000 series too. I like the laptop and thinking I may need to buy some RAM. Task MGR with Quicken running is >80%. CPU is only arounr 3-5%. Thanks for the video.

Great video. How long is the battery life? 4 hours as previous generations?
Would of been great to see a battery life test, seen at least one internet person say this particular AMD model doesn't have long battery life
I don't really have a fair way to do battery life testing.
As usual Lenovo's keyboard starts having issues after 1 year or so. Overall, the computer is good, but replacement of an easy part like the keyboard has become increasingly difficult for the casual user.
We've sold a ton of e15s of all generations and I haven't really had issues with keyboards on any of them. I do agree that keyboards are unfortunately difficult to replace these days, since they are built into the top case typically
What is typical CPU temperature at idle ? I am getting around 45-50C with my Intel version (i5 1235U) and I think its way too much. Thanks
Unfortunately I'm not sure and this has been replaced with the new e16, so I won't be getting any more

I've checked the published spec sheets. The AMD variant has a m.2 2242 and a 2280 slots. The Intel variant has x 2 m.2 2242 slots. It's very odd. Given that the 2242 size is difficult to find, I will be getting the AMD variant. Thank you for this video. It's been very helpful for me.
does it have a backlit keyboard?
The model I reviewed does not but it is "optional"

Does E15 Supports filp to boot?
No, but it does have "Power On AC Attach"
For me it is few times louder than e14....it was for me surprise.
It sound like it would fly away when doing more demanding stuff :((
I have not experienced this at all. Could it be defective? Do you have dedicated graphics that may be requiring more cooling?

Yes, backlight present, but as optional feature.

Yes, it has a power button
this model suffers from charging problem, I'm suffering with it and it doesn't charge. avoid it!

My Thinkpad T570 Also suffered the same charging and graphices problem. after 3 year. It is finally fixed. Thanks to bios update.
Manually i would reinsert the battery cell to fix the issue and setup bios again.
