Just came back from Ipoh last week. Try Chicken rice (or with beansprouts and pork varieties), Wanton mee, Hakka mee, Hokkien mee and Ying Yong (Fried vermicelli and flat rice noodles) in cantonese style sauce (usually available from same restaurant that fries Hokkien mee). Have fun!
Ipoh has an abundance of church like St john divine Anglican, st Micheal church (oldest in the city), our lady of lourdes (largest church) and a lot of Christian missionary schools like the one near kl st john cathedral - very architecturely pleasing and if I'm not mistaken included in the historical trail (except the churches... Most of them have Japanese occupation history which are something I realised throughout most of ipoh brochures are kind of left out) Ipoh is famous for chicken rice, ipoh coffee, tin mining history (many local owned museums near the concubine lane), trendy cafes, limestone hills, historical buildings, dim sum, cave temples, and much more.
Do do the historical trail in Ipoh - and if you can rent another bike - the nearby cave temples like Sam poh Kong, st Micheal church (the church history pamphlet is on the left of the book shelf and is red and black and white for the history), pomelo farms, and nearby papan heritage Town. The tourist center closes from 1 to 2 for lunch break and is near the city hall. You can easily get a very detailed map there... Hopefully 😅
It's not eye-poh but eee-poh. Ipoh. Glad to see you are doing well, enjoying your slow travel. Be safe.. oh try nasi ganja. It's so delicious n addictive it's literally called ganja the local term for grass, or weed or marijuana rice.
And a cave called Gua Tempurung, as well as a waterfall named Lata Kijang, you may try visiting too. But now monsoon season, so, must check with the locals see any risks.
u just miss out the youth hanging out at sitiawan intersection at petronas gas station doing driffts with they bikes lmaoooo... the cops came and shut down the party. youngin' be wildin' out and it was quite the event for a sleepy ghost town.
You're sweating way too many decisions. This is your trip not ours. As long as you are safe and happy at the end of each day, there are no bad decisions. Better and worse, yes. Bad or wrong, impossible. If you're able to smile, the decisions were right. Did it really matter if the bus ended up elsewhere? Not even in the long term. Just continue smiling, you're doing great. Ipoh is not off the beaten path. Big rail link between KL and Penang area. 2X the population of our beloved Kuching (my future home.) If you've been to Bolivia, it's like Oururo or Potosi. (Important but not as big asLa Paz, Sta. Cruz, or Cochabamba.) It has more potential than you may give it credit for. I predict 3 nights! Oh, you like the bed...4 nights
Lumut to Ipoh .
At least you made it Stu. Should be a good day tomorrow,
pangkor island to Ipoh. LoL.😮?

you should give a visit to Langkawi since they probably have the cheapest alcohol and cigarette in Malaysia

I got it right in the end lol. Staff at the hostel kept telling me off for saying it wrong lol
Not sure whether it is open. But Kelly's castle is one attraction that you may try to visit.

See if you can find the Nasi Ganja place in Ipoh, cheap but surprisingly good food. In fact Ipoh is a food paradise (IMHO)
There is some good chicken rice, tau fu fah
I wasn’t in a food based mind! Might have to go back again to do the place justice lol. Hope you’re well?
@ I’m good thanks. I hope you are feeling a bit happier, I can’t imagine travelling months at a time on my own.
Are you planning on going to cameron Highlands? I can recommend that highly.
I’ve missed it out. Next time though :)

I missed it!!! Lol
You are lost in the bush. Follow the local how they'd move around in their daily routines.
Sorry google maps 😂😂
