@@robertmartin7594 Ranking doesn't really matter in this case, Sabalenka is too inconsistent to be #1 material. From what I've seen, Iga was struggling since Warsaw and a 3-set win against a TOP10 player is a great sign of regaining mental toughness. 🙏
I don’t think anyone said her career is over. Other players just started adapting to her game more, even with that in mind she has still been performing well in these tournaments.

This was soooo good. Great mtach, great rallies, great serves. But Iga was consistent though the whole match and that got her this anazing victory. 1GA forever❤
Amazing high quality agressive tennis from both with great serves and super fast rallies. Much better quality tennis than the US open final. Garcia tennis made Swiatek play her best and vice versa.

Excatly, up to half of second set between Gauff and Sabalenka quality was just awful
Apparently the balls used in this tournament are very slow, according to Medvedev. Allows more time to strike the ball for better shots, but also gives the retriever more of an opportunity to return them, so maybe that’s why the perceived “better quality.”
@@jasonizumi9798 yes,must have played a part, because some wta players have complained at the quality of US Open balls in recent years ( " flying balls" difficult to control for power players)

I like it when Iga shows her frustrations when she missed something. Did i see it right she tried to smash her racket in a few occasions? So long as its controlled and not overdone she should let it out and not suppress. It’s normal and this what makes them interesting to see, not a passive one. Glad she did. I hope Iga gets her revenge with Coco and ultimately wins the title! Go Iga!

Congrats to both for great performance. Garcia with this match proved why she is the best serving player in the entire WTA. She had 16 aces so big respect for Świątek who was able to withstand her opponent's serving power especially in 2nd serve when Garcia had 8 aces.

Considering the many inconsistent matches from Garcia, I would say that this match really proves she can at least put down a set to Iga. As the commentator said, best match performance this year. Other than that, well done Iga and good try Caro! 🎉

I dont think i have seen Iga serves that well before! Wasnt expecting that at all...
Iga served really well in previous match... against Garcia, last year in Forth Worth.
That first set was phenomenal, and I totally give up Iga because she could break down with the 2nd set, from 4-1 to 5-4, and 5-6. She could probably get broken again.
Garcia was really good at the net and served well, which is beyond my expectation, but Iga did her best to serve, to rebel. Most important, she didn't give up herself!

During a 12yr playing career and 46 slam appearances, her best performance was a semi in USO 2022 (not exactly an illustrious career).
You're obviously 'bigging' Garcia up to give some semblance of credibility to the rightful WTA #2 winning in 3 sets !!
Let's see how 'great' she might be against other slam winners, ARYNA, COCO or ELENA !!
@robertmartin7594 I live in the universe where Garcia won WTA Finals, 11 WTA titles (including 3 WTA 1000 events) and has been consistently in the Top 10 for a very long period of time. She also upset many top players in the past such as Barty, Halep, Kvitova and many more. She is clearly a tough opponent and judging by the likes under my comment this is not only my opinion. Btw, so far I can't see any likes under your ridiculous comment;)

Iga greatly improved his first serve percentage and very strong serve. García could not be as aggressive as on previous occasions. Iga showed evolution in her serve, she wants to be a better player, she has a great competitive spirit. And he's only 22 years old.

Great performances from both ladies. Given Iga's current loss of no. 1 position in the ranking and facing all the turbulent emotions, it must be very motivating for her. Especially because now she's going to face Coco, who's obviously at her best. Looks like it's going to be another great show. Though I adore Coco, I'm obviously rooting for Iga. I hope she could play Elena in the final. Winning such a battle against Rybakina would mean her mental recovery is somehow complete.

I don't think Iga has mental problem she is just tired of season and has right to feel so. She played most matches and everyone was extra motivated to beat her. She lost this season 8 times to former tournament champions (just check last 4 tournaments, she was defeated by Kudermietova, Gauff, Pegula who won respectively at Tokyo, Cincinnati, Montreal) She had unlucky season start because of injuries and that affected rest of the season as she was forced to participated in many tournaments if she wanted to secure WTA #1 spot. No she had 3 weeks of break for the very first time in this season, could finally focus on training instead securing ranking points. In Tokyo she was probably overtrained as she played terrible in 1st and 2nd round.

Top-notch showdown between Swiatek and Garcia. Even though it was an arduous appearance, I had estimated that Iga was going to vanquish Garcia with her reliability, expertise and competency. Her self-confidence and mental power are really breathtaking to contend against the potent rivals. Huge congrats to my favorite female tennis competitor Iga Jazdaaa!
This would have been the match of the year but that third set... each set is just a metaphor for Garcia's career really, at her best beats anyone, then becomes inconsistent with losing and winning streaks, ultimately defeats herself and stops becoming a threat.
True inconsistency and nervous and that's why she even not on the race to year ending championship.
And I was hoping that the third set would be just as eventful!

The same could be said about nearly all of them. She , Garcia , has some tools to win matches but ultimately lacks variety alike Swiatek. Swiatek though is much more consistent .
It is unbelievable hard to keep UE low in the third set, by playing attacking tennis.

I wanted Caroline to win, but her poor year results said she would lose.
I was surprised she pushed two close sets and winning one of them against the rightly ranked world number two.
Hopefully this was a sign of an improving Caroline.

She unfortunately did not tighten the game enough in the second tie-break, committing two unforced errors. And in the previous game, she came within 1cm of getting a match point.

This match says a lot about Iga. She had a winner lined up to seal the 1st set tiebreaker, and couldn't make it. That's very much where her game has been the last 3 months against good competition. But fighting back to win is better-form Iga, where she didn't always play perfectly but had the tenacity to get the job done when it counted most. I have no idea what she will do from here.

What a match!!! Always gotta pull for Iga, but hated it for Caro, a great player who fought hard today.
Iga's detractors love to say she was a fluke No. 1. No she wasn't. She earned the points to earn that ranking. Her level this year is just not as high as last year. Her winners to unforced errors ratio which was about 2 to 1 in 2022 deteriorated in 2023, sometimes .5 to 1 in some matches. Yet, despite that, she has won more than 60 matches year to date, just as she did in 2022. This girl is young and is still developing, she will have her ups and downs but to bet against her winning more slams is a losing proposition.

Great to see Caroline playing better and gaining confidence. She's had a tough year. I like her game, she plays different than most players on tour. Yet, her court positioning leaves a bit to be desired. She often comes into the net without hitting a good approach shot, which makes passing her easier. Her inconsistency is frustrating, but when she plays well she is very fun to watch.
She couldn't do more, because today Iga controlled the game.
