I’m an old engineer, I have to say this is the most informative vid I’ve ever seen on the internet about my dsg, I count myself lucky I found it, well done dude!
Thanks for the positive feedback. Keep us posted. The gearbox in video has now done 400k and still going strong. Just regularly change the DSG oil. You can do it 👍
Perfect video . Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video us. I was told only VW should do this oil change as they need to use a vacuum system to do it properly . I will now do this myself this week with no problem . (After my pump arrives 😀)
Great video. You’re supposed to check the oil level with the engine running after selecting all the gears etc…,with oil temp 35-45 degrees. Take the drain plug out whilst it’s still idling and then wait until it’s dripping then plug in and it’s done 👍🏻
Hi thanks for the feedback. Box needs 5-6 litres of oil so if I take out 5 and I put back 5 then I don't worry about the removal of the plug again etc. I think they made it a mission to try and put people off. You can do it.👍
Word of warning here. I've done one this week for a customer. It was last done 39000 miles ago by a main dealer so you would "assume" that the correct amount of oil was in the box. I measured just over 5 litres drained. I refilled correctly by the book using VCDS and the unit took just short of 7 litres. There is a reason why the right procedure should be followed.
Something strange there as VW sell the oil in box’s of 6 litres especially for the job of refilling. Here in Germany VW dealers put in 5-6l. You can do it 👍
**Update** So, I did my DSG service, and it seems to have gone well. However, I want to add that I followed the VW workshop manual method of checking the oil level. Putting the same amount of oil back in assumes it had the right level to start with. I don't feel comfortable making assumptions. So the procedure is. Vehicle in park, engine running, and then undo the drain plug. I put 5.5 litres in my gearbox to start, and under these conditions, no oil came out of the drain hole. So I added another half litre, still nothing. So I added another half a litre. We're up to 6.5 litres now. And finally, when I removed the drain plug, about 280 ml came back out. So that is the perfect level according to VW. I wonder if your gearbox might be a little light on oil? Anyway, after that I did a reset on the gearbox, which effectively resets all the learning back to factory. This way the gearbox will relearn the clutch and shifting with the new fluid. This is done by the ignition on, engine not running, and hold accelerator hard on the floor. Right into the kick down switch. Hold it there for 30 seconds, then ignition off, keep holding accelerator to the floor for another 30 secs, then release. Lock vehicle and then unlock. Next time you start, gearbox should have a fresh mind as it learns the gears and shift points with the new oil. Hope someone finds this additional information useful. And a special thanks to the videographer for the original video, which gave me the courage to have a go! Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback for others. Once drained 5.5 litres of new oil is fine for the box. The box in this video has had numerous changes and has 400k on it and runs fine. If you look online all sales of dsg gearbox oil change kits never have more than 6 litres supplied. Level is not so critical as long as there's 5 litres or more. Keep us posted. You can do it 👍
When I changed the dsg oil in my 6 speed Skoda Octavia Vrs gear box I left the filter out until the end so air could come out of the gearbox when filling.
Just pressing the brake as don't want vehicle to move. Moving the selector is to make sure oil gets into the megatronic valves. You'll be fine. Keep us posted. You can do it 👍
Well the channel is about you can do it. So I would say do it but thats up to you. See how much the garage will charge and go from there. Next time Lidl are selling the oil pumps pick one up, buy a sump plug filler adapter and some oil ready for the next one if you don't feel up to it this time. You can do it.
Very helpful video. I 3d printed filling adapter it worked well. Other guides dont mention draining mechatronics, I wonder why? Quite a lot came out of mine. I ended up using the full 6l as a result. I did final check on level not much came out. In this video an assumption is made that it was filled correctly before which may not be the case.
Hi well done in printing the adapter. 6 Litres will work but it's the max. Some of the other dry clutch DSG boxes I believe just have one drain plug. Definitely was filled correctly before as done by VW Main Dealer and all certified . Here in Germany and Austria they bring serving to a whole new level... You can do it :)
This maynot right because oil has expansion under certain temp. Therefore there is plastic leveller in the box on top of drain plug. these gearboxes has very specific amount of oil in them. The plastic leveller sets this amount in gearbox. What you did. You drained cold oil let say 5.3lt then you put 5.3lt cold oil and then you did run the engine. After that oil expanded then you drained off about .3 liter something. Are you sure this is right to do?
Hi. I didn't drain any oil what so ever after filling the gearbox. I did mention if you want to drain it as per manual than you can. These boxes are not so sensitive as everyone makes out, that's my personal view and experience of others. If you drain the oil from the gearbox and megatronic unit, put in 5litre. If you also change the filter and drain the housing put in 5.5 and you are good to go. The Germans just put in 5 litres. after a change. If you are in any doubt just measure the oil volume you drain out and you'll see how much was in there to start with. Of course this assumes it was correctly filled in the first place. It's just a gearbox with wet clutches and an automatic gearchange. Hope this helps You can do it 👍
Thanks for the informativ video. Very clear and easy to follow. I had my vw T6 in for dsg oil change. but they forget to change the filter. Is it fine? Car has 100k km on it. I got the car today and didn't drive it yet. Do i need to change oil and filter again? Or is it fine to change filter only?
I don't think a lot of garages change the filter . Should be fine to just change the filter. It's not needed to change filter every oil change I believe it says change every other oil change. You can do it 👍
@@YoucandoitwithJules Thank you for the fast response. Also i have one more question. They filled 6 liter of transmission oil. But when i told them if they did start the car and wait for the oil to reach 35-45 c and then let it dribbing the excess oil to ensure correct oil level. They told me no, they only pumped up with 6 litres. I think the dsg is over filled. Is it dangerous to keep it like this? Or better to let it drip the excess oil?
Was it a VW garage ? 6 litres should be fine. It's not so precise better more than less. Specialist DSG Workshop said they put 6 in and leave it. You can do it 👍
Everything is good. I’m about to change it again. I replace the filter every second time. So this change will be simply drain box and megatronic unit and then 5 litres of new pumped in, job done. Hope this helps and keep us posted. You can do it 👍
