  • MasterChef is an intense cooking competition that sees chefs trying to impress a panel of judges week after week, until only one is left standing. The kids’ version of the show is obviously a little less cutthroat, but both are more intense behind-the-scenes than you see on TV. One contestant, who didn’t sign a nondisclosure agreement, has talked at length about all the testing that contestants have to undergo, and it seems pretty intense, especially for what seems like just a simple cooking show. From the whittling down of potential contestants to all the controversy, let’s take a look at the truth about MasterChef that has been revealed.

Josh Marks was 7 foot 2 but apparently didn't come from a particularly tall family nor was he himself particularly tall as a kid. People growing to such heights in that manner are due to pituitary gland irregularities and that's at the base of the brain. Might I suggest that a tumor in his brain caused him to grow to that height and simultaneously caused his paranoid schizophrenia thus costing him his life. Real tragedy.

What a sad ending to such a bright young man. I too suffer from Bipolar Disorder and depression. My father was schizophrenic and also had anger issues, it was tough growing up in my family circle, but I made the best of it and learned to deal with my illness. I have been a United States Marine in the field of reconnaissance and intelligence, I finished a master’s degree in criminology. I became a Warden of a prison at the age of 28. I no longer work in that field and it was very hard to manage your emotional state under a high pressured job, but to be honest I loved the job and worked very hard to help ex convicts get back into Society. I left the field when I got married and moved to Florida. I work in retail now, obviously is much less stressful but I honestly have to say that I was happier when working in the correctional field. Every reality show has a lag between choosing of contestants and the start of filming. I've always wondered why people don't practice basic stuff during that time like baking a cake, making a pie crust, making some kind of bread, vegetarians learning to cook meat, cooking eggs, making pasta, etc. When these supposed expert home cooks stand there and say, "This is the first time I've ever made this." and it's not something unusual, I'm always thinking they're total idiots.

It's scripted lol. They are actually given lessons on various things in between filming. They do not film every day, even if the show makes you believe that. However, the whole 'this is my first time making this' line is usually used to gain sympathy from the viewer or to make it seem like they are some genius cook. Of course some times it can be truthful, but who really knows.

It always made sense that Master Chef would give their home cooks lessons. Not every home cook has tried cooking everything like a student or chef has tried in culinary school or in the industry. That's why I feel that Master Chef lost so much of it's shine and luster from the earlier season. It's just a bunch of produced garbage meant to pull on your heart strings like any other show. Shows like America Got Talent and American Idol is selling you the story. The performers are all great but it's not always the best that wins or moves on to the next round. The story that Master Chef sells you over other cooking shows is that HOME COOKS, not professional chefs, are able to cook and compete. It's an underdog story to show that anyone can achieve excellency. They get you to watch because of the feel good notion and how relatable it is to you. It's heavily scripted and the contestants are chosen, like the video says, way in advance with months of choosing personalities that will collide, personalities that represent the average American, personalities that a humble, etc. I'm not saying all shows are like this, but very careful of shows that appear on the same network that has entertainment news as their news.

4:24 totally makes sense, because you wont convince sane people that a Master Chef contestant that is a retail staff, accountant or a stay at home parent can able to make elaborate restaurant quality dishes out of time pressure within the duration of the show, of course the judges or producers will give light coaching and culinary lectures to these home cooks, even just a brief IDEA for future episodes is more than enough "hand holding" so that contestant will not be totally clueless and helpless of what to cook during episode tapings.

I'm sorry but the slaughter 'scandal' is stupid. A chef preparing meat has to know how to butcher an animal. But the ingredients arrive prepped I hear you say. True, in most cases (lobster, anyone?) but as someone who has killed a wild boar in order to eat, I can personally tell you, the respect for whatever ingredient you prepare is tripled for the creator when you, yourself have no choice. Yes, I was starving to death, and no, I regret nothing. I did what I had to.
I am fairly certain it is common practice in culinary school to understand the ins and out of each and every meat product that is prepared, not to mention that the meat is slaughtered. Live or not, the animal dies to provide food. That is simply the facts of life. Facts don't care about opinions, though personally, I would rather not kill an animal, I will without regret butcher one if I need to eat and there are no alternatives.

That was as far as i went. I mean, honestly, if you don't know that this is how reality tv works, then you're kinda getting the wool pulled over your eyes... but it's ok... I'll try out again... you have to be positive and look at what you ARE getting out of it. I got to have 3 professional chefs try my dish and critique... I got all sorts of input and suggestions from that as well.... Who many people can say they got to do that? not too many... yeah, it's all drama on the show, but you get out what you put into it. The worst part of the show is the little "solo asides" where they get many contestants takes on what is happening right then. I feel like these annoying little private ego sessions could be totally removed and the show would seem quite a bit more authentic. Of course, people are so addicted to stupid reality TV, they need classless shit talking to stay interested. It totally breaks the fourth wall because you know every completed their dish, then they did these interviews, then they all went back to their stations and had to act like they had just then completed their dishes.

If you're cooking beef and eating beef a cow was slaughtered, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. If you can't see it and can't live with it, don't partake in it
